Dark Metallers FOSCOR are in the Nautilus Studios in Barcelona to begin recording their fourth full-length album.  The new album, to be titled “Those Horrors Wither”, is the follow up to 2009’s “Groans to the Guilty” and marks an expansion in the band’s musical direction, away from the strict confines of Black Metal.  Work has already started on the drum tracks, and FOSCOR will be posting regular updates and photos from the recording sessions on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/foscor.official

With a current lineup that comprises Falke (SOUL ASIDE, FAYRIERIE, ex-LUX DIVINA) and A.M. (ex-VIDRES A LA SANG) on guitars, Fiar (MELANGIA, DAWN OV HATE, CABESTRO, live session vocalist for GRAVEYARD) on Bass and Vocals, and Nechrist (ex-SHEMHAMPHORASH) on drums, FOSCOR was formed in Barcelona in 1997 and spent their first decade blending the best of ‘90’s Old School Black Metal with both traditional and modern extreme metal styles.  With three full-length albums, three splits, and appearances on KATATONIA and ENSLAVED tributes under their belts, the band released a live DVD in 2012 to commemorate their 10th Anniversary.  But more than just a commemoration, the DVD also represents the end of one era for the band, whilst “Those Horrors Wither”, for which a label is being sought, represents the beginning of the next.

Commenting on the new direction, FOSCOR founders Falke and Fiar had this to say: “We have been developing our direction and sound since the very beginning, and now we feel we have reached the stage where our musical abilities have increased to the extent where we can express ourselves fully though our music in the way we always wanted and we have truly come into our own.  We don’t really know how you would classify the new direction, but we have expanded our musical horizons, dipping into doom, and even moments of prog, whilst keeping the claustrophobic black atmosphere.  I guess you could say that the new album will be much more multi-dimensional.  Fans who have been with us from the start will have probably had some kind of inkling as to the direction we will be taking, and we hope they will be very satisfied with what they are going to hear.  There’s a lot of work yet to be done and we will try to keep everyone updated every step of the way.  Darkness will speak again…”

FOSCOR’s next live appearance will be on the 21st May at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona where they will support GODFLESH at the Sala Apolo.  More information about FOSCOR can be found on the band’s website at http://www.foscor.com

Dark Metallers FOSCOR, who have been celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of the recording of their first promo, have decided to go old-school by releasing live material in Pro-Tape format.  “Deu Anys Vers la Foscor”, which translated from the band’s native Catalan means “Ten Years Towards Darkness”, was originally released as a DVD last year on the Darkwoods label and included live footage of the band’s appearance at the Sala KGB in Barcelona and it is the soundtrack of that appearance has been released on the tape.

The Pro-Tape of “Deu Anys Vers la Foscor” is strictly limited to 100 hand-numbered copies, and is released in February on Ruptura Records.  Track listing as follows:

SIDE A – SENY-

II. Raids to Punishment
III. The Smile of the Sad Ones
IV. Searching a Seal of Pain (The Beauty)
V. Melangia

SIDE B – RAUXA -

Formed in 1997 in Barcelona, Spain, FOSCOR’s lineup comprises Falke (SOUL ASIDE, FAYRIERIE, ex-LUX DIVINA) and A.M. (ex-VIDRES A LA SANG) on guitars, Fiar (MELANGIA, DAWN OV HATE, CABESTRO, live session vocalist for GRAVEYARD) on Bass and Vocals and Nechrist (ex-SHEMHAMPHORASH) on drums.  The band is currently working on their fourth full-length album, a follow up to 2009’s “Groans to the Guilty”, for which a label is currently being sought.  Like many bands that started out initially playing pure Black Metal, FOSCOR have developed and expanded their sound, and the new album promises a few surprises.  More information about FOSCOR can be found on the band’s website at http://www.foscor.com

It’s been ten years since Black Metallers FOSCOR released their debut album, and 2012 will see the band celebrating the decade with a series of events starting off with a show at the Sala KGB in Barcelona on the 28th January, where the band will also launch a new commemorative merchandise and the release of their first ever DVD. Titled “Deu Anys Vers La Foscor” which translated from the band’s native Catalan means “Ten Years Towards Darkness”, the DVD, which is edited by the band’s guitarist Falke, includes live footage of FOSCOR’s 2010 appearance at the Sala KGB in Barcelona, along with a documentary chronicling the last ten years, and the music video for the track “I Tornà de les Cendres” from the 2007 album “The Smile of the Sad Ones”.  Also included will be two commemorative A3 posters, one which features the cover art etching by Cynthia Meier-Dusol entitled “Nous Sommes Condamnés À Être Libres”, and the second one features the Funeral Stone design, by Ideophony, which also appears on the band’s new stage sets and merchandise. The artwork on the DVD itself is by Dios Perezoso.   “Deu Anys Vers La Foscor” will be released on the Darkwoods label on the 28th January and comes in A5 format and is limited to 250 hand numbered copies.  Below you can see the video trailer for FOSCOR’s “Deu Anys Vers La Foscor”

Although it’s been ten years since their first release, FOSCOR was in fact formed in 1997 in Barcelona, Spain, and is not only one of the few Black Metal bands hailing from that city, but also one of only a handful of bands that uses the Catalan language of the region in some of the lyrics. With three full length albums under their belts, the last one being “Groans to the Guilty” in 2009, FOSCOR are currently working on their next album, and have contributed a track to the album “ÖND – A Tribute to Enslaved”, which is due for release later this year.

Frontman Fiar commented “We wanted to make 2012 something special.  Aside from all the live appearances we are currently planning, we are also welcoming a new lead guitarist, A.M. (formerly of VIDRES A LA SANG) who will be replacing Wilhkiem who has left the band after being with us for seven years.  We have also formalized our relationship with Patricia Thomas, the UK-based manager who has been a personal friend for several years now, and who works with some amazing names in Black and Extreme Metal, both legendary and upcoming.  So it’s very much the end of one era for FOSCOR and the beginning of a new one. One which we are all looking forward to”.   More information about FOSCOR can be found on the band’s website at http://www.foscor.com
