DARK ESSENCE RECORDS plans to make their annual Inferno Festival event a little different this yea when they join forces with sister label KARISMA RECORDS to showcase two of their bands each at Blå on Wednesday 16th April.  “We are always conscious of the fact that while many of Dark Essence’s artists such as TAAKE tour frequently, and fans in Europe have a good chance of seeing them live, the Karisma artists tend to tour much less, so we thought that this year we would open up the event to give their fans a chance to see some of them, and introduce them to Dark Essence’s fans at the same time”, commented the label’s Martin Kvam.

Representing Dark Essence will be two bands whose recent releases have been getting rave reviews from press and fans alike.  First up will be SLEGEST, the new project from former VREID guitarist Ese, who has skilfully blended classic heavy rock and old-school black metal to produce a sound that is both dark and sinister, and with an unmistakably  down and dirty catchy groove  that weaves its way through the music.  Originally started as a one-man project, once the debut full-length album “Løyndom” was released at the end of 2013,  it quickly became clear that the demand from fans to see SLEGEST perform live was such that Ese was persuaded to form a fully functioning band.  More information about SLEGEST can be found at https://www.facebook.com/slegest

The official video for the track “Ho Som Haustar Aleine” from SLEGEST’s “Løyndom” can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/ti8XokQakEw

Joining them will be Sweden’s ALFAHANNE, whose lineup includes members of bands such as VINTERLAND and early MAZE OF TORMENT, and who have come together to play what they themselves have called ”Alfapocalyptic Rock”, a fascinating and hard-hitting mix of Black Metal, Classic Rock and Punk with some Goth influences .  Their high-energy live performances have garnered them much praise.   Making a guest appearance on stage with ALFAHANNE, will be HELHEIM’s V’gandr who performed vocals on one of the tracks from the band’s new album “Alfapokalyps” .  It is a tribute to ALFAHANNE that they were able to attract not only V’gandr to make a guest appearance on the album, but also Dark Essence label-mates Hoest from TAAKE and Niklas Kvarforth from SHINING.  More information about ALFAHANNE can be found at https://www.facebook.com/alfahanneofficial

The track “Såld På Mörkret” from ALFAHANNE’s album ”Alfapocalyptic Rock” and  which features TAAKE’s Hoest on guest vocals can be heard below and at http://soundcloud.com/dark-essence-records/alfahanne-s-ld-p-m-rkret

Making an appearance for Karisma will be two bands, representing the new and the established.  Lovers of Prog Rock cannot fail to recognise the name of AIRBAG, a band known the world-over for an exquisite musical craftsmanship that enables its musicians to create a sonic experience ranging from massive walls of sound, to ambient textures and soulful soundscapes, both in the studio and on stage.  The release of AIRBAG’s third full-length album “The Greatest Show on Earth” at the end of last year confirmed the band’s status in the world of prog, earning them many accolades.   Inferno will be one of the very few chancesthat to catch this incredible band live this year so it is an opportunity that should not be missed.  One for fans of ANATHEMA. More information about AIRBAG can be found at http://www.airbagsound.com/

The title track from AIRBAG’s album “The Greatest Show on Earth” can be heard below and at:  http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/airbag-the-greatest-show-on

The second of the Karisma bands is one of their latest signings, SEVEN IMPALE.  The release of the digital EP “Beginning/Relieve” last year gave an indication of the multi-faceted nature of these young musicians.  With its member drawn from a range of disciplines including classical orchestra, big band, metal, jazz, rock and electronic music, their sound ranges from progressive and jazzy to the softer and more melodic  to the harder and edgier.  They bring a freshness and enthusiasm to their live performances, and it is anticipated that their debut full-length album later this year  will more than meet expectations, setting them apart from many other new arrivals on the scene.  If you are a fan of Norway’s SHINING, SEVEN IMPALE is definitely a band you will want to check out.  More information about SEVEN IMPALE can be found at https://www.facebook.com/sevenimpale

KARISMA RECORDS, the Norwegian label that specialises in the more Progressive side of the music spectrum, has inked a deal with Jazz Prog Rock duo OSSICLES and is set to release a follow up to the band’s 2012 debut  “Mantlepiece”.  The band will be entering the studio in the summer to begin recording and it is expected that the new, as yet untitled album, will hit the streets towards the end of the year.

Formed in 2011 by cousins Sondre Veland on drums, percussion, vocals and keyboards, and Bastian Veland on guitars, vocals, bass, upright bass and keyboards, OSSICLES is, according to the band, a constantly evolving project that is influenced by genres as varied as jazz, rock, avent-garde,ambient, noise and minimalism.   “Mantlepiece”, which was a double album released on OSSICLES’ own label, No Weather Records,  was largely written when the two cousins were around the ages of 16/17, but also includes later material, as well as tracks written during the recording process.  On the strength of this release OSSICLES was invited by MIKE PORTNOY to appear at the Progressive Nation at Sea Festival in 2014, an opportunity the band sadly had to turn down due to the high cost of travelling to the USA to join the ship in Miami.

More information about OSSICLES can be found on the band’s website at http://ossiclesband.wix.com/ossicles

KARISMA RECORDS have debuted a track from “Mannsverk”, the upcoming album from Norwegian Prog Rockers BRIMSTONE (formerly THE BRIMSTONE SOLAR RADIATION BAND).  The eight-track album  is set for release on the 24th of March in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats, and the newly debuted track, “Flapping Lips at Ankle Height”, can be heard above and at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/brimstone-flapping-lips-at

“Mannsverk” will be the fourth full-length album from BRIMSTONE, and one which, according to the band,  promises to be “leaner, meaner, hungrier, and much more proggie” than before. With the original 4-piece lineup of  Rolf Edvardsen on vocals and guitars, Truls “Biff” Eriksen on bass and the  two brothers Thomas and Øyvind Grønner on drums and organ/guitar respectively,  the band has gone to great lengths to completely record the album in their own studio using original vintage equipment in order to get the exact sound they were looking for.

With their use of instruments such as flutes, saxophones, accordions and violins, together with thundering bass lines and relentless jazz grooves, evocative  vocals and choirs, and an arsenal of organs, pianos, mellotrons and synthesizers, BRIMSTONE has succeeded in creating that late 60′s/early 70′s vibe that was epitomised by bands such as KING CRIMSON and PINK FLOYD, and brought it right up to date.   “Mannsverk”  is available for pre-order at http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/

Track listing for “Mannsverk” as follows:

1. A Norwegian Requiem
2. Rubberlegged Man
3. Voodoo
4. Flapping Lips at Ankle Height
5. The Fixed Wheel
6. The Giant Fire
7. Sjø & Land
8. This is the Universe

BRIMSTONE will launch “Mannsverk” with a show at Det Akademiske Kvarter in Bergen on the 28th March.  More information about BRIMSTONE can be found on the band’s website at http://brimstone.no

Five years after the release of their last album “Smorgasbord”, Karisma Records is set to release the fourth full-length album from Prog Rockers BRIMSTONE, who have not only shortened their name from THE BRIMSTONE SOLAR RADIATION BAND, but have also changed their sound to become “leaner, meaner, hungrier, and much more proggie” than before.   The new album, which is titled “Mannsverk”, will hit the streets on the 24th March in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats.  Track listing for “Mannsverk” as follows:

1. A Norwegian Requiem
2. Rubberlegged Man
3. Voodoo
4. Flapping Lips at Ankle Height
5. The Fixed Wheel
6. The Giant Fire
7. Sjø & Land
8. This is the Universe

Formed in Bergen, Norway, in the late ’90′s by guitarist and vocalist Rolf Edvardsen and bassist Truls “Biff” Eriksen who, wanting something different from the pop and metal of their previous bands, turned to psychedelic progressive music as epitomised by bands such as KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD and 13th FLOOR ELEVATORS.  Joined by two brothers Thomas and Øyvind Grønner on drums and organ/guitar, respectively, BRIMSTONE married high quality song writing to high energy live performances  and quickly became much in demand on the underground psychedelic /prog network, both at home and abroad, thanks to their own special brand of “prog-a-delic space rock”. Under their original name of THE BRIMSTONE SOLAR RADIATION BAND, they released the “Going Out” EP in 2002, followed by the full-length albums “Solar Radiation Band” in 2004, the country- tinged “Solstice” in 2005, and their first release on Karisma Records, the multi-instrumental “Smorgasbord”, in 2009.

“Mannsverk” finds the lineup back as the original  4-piece  and recording in their own studio, using original vintage equipment  to enable them to get the exact sound they want.  A sound that includes the use of instruments as varied as flutes, saxophones, accordions and violins, as well as vocal choirs, to create a strong late 60′s/early 70′s vibe.  With many of the songs coming in at between six and twelve minutes, BRIMSTONE have used their considerable musical skill to avoid the trap of boring solos and fruitless jamming – effortlessly fusing Biff’s thundering bass lines with Thomas Grønner’s relentless jazz- grooves, whilst Rolf Edvardsen’s vocals and guitar fit perfectly with  Øyvind Grønner’s arsenal of organs, pianos, mellotrons and synthesizers.

BRIMSTONE will launch “Mannsverk” with a show at Det Akademiske Kvarter in Bergen on the 28th March.  More information about BRIMSTONE can be found on the band’s website at http://brimstone.no

With a release date set for the 10th of March for the third full-length album from Norwegian Prog Rockers D’ACCORD, Dark Essence Records have today previewed the  track “Mr Moonglight” from the album.  Titled simply “D’AccorD III”  the nine-track album was recorded at the Cowshed Studio in London, which has seen the likes of THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH, JAMIE CALLUM, and BOY GEORGE pass through its doors.  Significantly, the fact that the studio is fully analogue means that D’ACCORD have been able to create an authentic  70′s sound, which has been further enhanced by the fact that each individual track was recorded on the first take and then mixed in analogue format at Fluid Mastering (DEEP PURPLE, ELVIS and JETHRO TULL) . The track  “Mr Moonlight” can be heard above and at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/daccord-mr-moonlight

Drawing inspiration from the ’70′s greats such as GENESIS, KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD and  JETHRO TULL, D’ACCORD was formed in Stord, Norway in 2008, and was off to a flying start, with the band’s self-released debut album getting a nomination for best 2009 Debut Album by Prog Awards.  Having  played extensively both at home and abroad, D’ACCORD have, over the years,  taken the best of 70′s Prog Rock and imbued it with their own style, bringing their sound firmly into the 21st Century. Today’s  lineup is comprised of charismatic frontman Daniel Maage (Vocals, Flute & various instruments), Årstein  (Bass), Fredrik Horn (Tangentar)and Stig Are Sund  (Guitar).

“D’AccorD III” differs greatly from the band’s massive conceptual sophomore album “Helike”, which was released on Karisma Records in 2011.  With “D’AccorD III”, the band has chosen to record tracks that are much shorter and more varied.  Alongside D’ACCORD’s signature 70′s Progressive influences and musical complexity is a more Rock ‘n Roll feel and a harder edge to the songs to produce a classic rock album filled with adventurous and progressive sounds.

Full track listing on  “D’AccorD III” is  as follows:

1. These Last Todays
2. Here Lies Greed
3. Lady Faboulus
4. Mr. Moonlight
5. Ibliss In Bliss
6. Song For Jethro
7. Mon – Sat: Part I
8. Mon – Sat: Part II
9. The Doom That Came To Sarnath (bonus track)

Details of the third album from Norwerian Prog Rockers D’ACCORD have been released by Karisma Records.  Simply titled “D’AccorD III”  the nine track album was recorded at the fully analog Cowshed Studio in London, which has seen the likes of THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH, JAMIE CALLUM, and BOY GEORGE pass through its doors.  The mastering, once again in analogue format, was done at Fluid Mastering (DEEP PURPLE, ELVIS and JETHRO TULL), also in London.  Track listing on  “D’AccorD III”, which is set for release on the 10th of March, is  as follows:

1. These Last Todays
2. Here Lies Greed
3. Lady Faboulus
4. Mr. Moonlight
5. Ibliss In Bliss
6. Song For Jethro
7. Mon – Sat: Part I
8. Mon – Sat: Part II
9. The Doom That Came To Sarnath (bonus track)

Whilst  D’ACCORD’s 2011 sophomore album  “Helike” was a massive conceptual piece, this time the band has gone for much shorter and more varied tracks.  D’ACCORD’s signature 70′s Progressive influences and musical complexity are still present, but so too is a more Rock ‘n Roll feel and a harder edge to the songs.  As Karisma Records explained:  “The choice of analogue studios for both recording and mastering may seem unusual in this digital day and age, but the band wanted the album to have a more authentic ’70′s sound, so not only was analogue used, but each individual track was recorded on the first take.  The band’s decision has certainly paid off and with “D’AccorD III”  they have produced a classic rock album filled with adventurous and progressive sounds”.

Inspired by the great bands from the ’70′s such as GENESIS, KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD and  JETHRO TULL, D’ACCORD was formed in Stord, Norway in 2008.  With their self-released debut album getting a nomination for best 2009 Debut Album by Prog Awards, D’ACCORD have played extensively both at home and abroad, and have, over the years, honed their sound, taking the best of 70′s Prog Rock and bringing to it a fresh approach. Today’s  lineup is comprised of charismatic frontman Daniel Maage (Vocals, Flute & various instruments), Årstein “Yearstone” Tislevoll (Keyboards, Violin, Guitar, Mandolin), Fredrik Errol Horn (Keyboards & Saxophone), Martin Sjøen (Bass) and Bjarte Rossehaug (Drums), Stig Are S(o)und (Guitar).

“The Greatest Show on Earth” the title track from the new album from Prog Rockers AIRBAG has been previewed today by Karisma Records.   Set for release on the 4th of November, “The Greatest Show on Earth” will be available as a standard jewel case CD and a limited edition vinyl replica style CD, as well as a double vinyl gatefold in both black and limited edition white version. The album will also be available digitally.  The track can be heard on the player above and at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/airbag-the-greatest-show-on

A band known for its musical craftsmanship, AIRBAG’s third full-length album has taken 18 months of painstaking work to ensure that the quality of the work surpasses what went before.  Whilst “The Greatest Show on Earth” shows an edgier side to the band with the inclusion of some heavier passages, the trademark AIRBAG sound is still very much intact.  With “The Greatest Show on Earth” Bjørn Riis (guitars, keyboards, backing vocals, bass, co-producer), Asle Tostrup (vocals, keyboards, programming, producer, graphic design), Henrik Fossum (drums), Jørgen Hagen (programming, keyboards) and Anders Hovdan (bass), create a sonic experience that ranges from massive walls of sound, to ambient textures and soulful soundscapes to explore the growing sense of alienation and distrust that the individual feels when confronted by society and authority, whilst at the same time being manipulated and misled into believing that each person is in control of their self-absorbed lives.

Full track listing for “The Greatest Show on Earth”, which comes in at around 50 minutes and was engineered and co-produced by Vegard Sleipnes, is as follows and can be pre-ordered from http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/artist/airbag :

1. Surveillance (part 1)
2. Redemption
3. Silence Grows
4. Call Me Back
5. The Greatest Show on Earth
6. Surveillance (part 2-3)

AIRBAG’s next live appearance will be at the release show for “The Greatest Show on Earth” at the John Dee in Oslo, Norway on the 30th October.   More information about AIRBAG can be found on the band’s website http://www.airbagsound.com

Karisma Records have revealed more details of the upcoming album from Norwegian Prog Rockers AIRBAG.  Titled “The Greatest Show on Earth”, the six-track album comes in at just over 50 minutes and will be available as a standard jewel case CD and a limited edition vinyl replica style CD, as well as a double vinyl gatefold in both black and limited edition white version. The album will also be available digitally.  Full track listing for “The Greatest Show on Earth” which will be released on the 4th of November, as follows:

1. Surveillance (part 1)
2. Redemption
3. Silence Grows
4. Call Me Back
5. The Greatest Show on Eart
6. Surveillance (part 2-3)

“The Greatest Show on Earth” sees AIRBAG continue to pull the listener into their world and bring out in them a range of emotions by creating cinematic pictures with their use of atmospheric sounds.  AIRBAG’s lyrics explore the growing sense of alienation and distrust that the individual feels when confronted by society and authority, whilst at the same time being manipulated and misled into believing that everyone is in control of their self-absorbed lives.  This is an exploration that is accompanied by a sonic experience that ranges from massive walls of sound, to ambient textures and soulful soundscapes.

A follow up to 2009’s ‘Identity’ and 2011’s ‘All Rights Removed’, both also released on Karisma Records,  it  has taken 18 months of painstaking work on the part of  Bjørn Riis (guitars, keyboards, backing vocals, bass, co-producer), Asle Tostrup (vocals, keyboards, programming, producer, graphic design), Henrik Fossum (drums), Jørgen Hagen (programming, keyboards) and Anders Hovdan (bass), together with engineer and co-producer Vegard Sleipnes, to perfect the sound on the band’s third full-length album.  There is a rougher edge to “The Greatest Show on Earth” and some heavier parts than their previous releases would suggest, but the classic AIRBAG sound is still present, and the quality and musical craftsmanship that marks the band’s work are very much in evidence, bringing this new release to a whole new level.

Having recently signed a new deal with Karisma Records for two more albums, Norwegian Prog Rockers AIRBAG have released a sneak preview from their upcoming album.  Although this is an early mix and not the finished product and will therefore only be streaming temporarily, the track, ‘Redemption’, is a clear indication that Airbag is moving in a slightly edgier direction, with harder hitting compositions and thought-provoking lyrics. ‘Redemption’ can be heard at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/airbag-redemption-early-mix  or on the player above until the end of August.

‘Redemption’ will be the opening track from the band’s new album, “The Greatest Show on Earth”, which is set for release on the 25th of October this year.   Since the release of 2009’s debut album “Identity”, AIRBAG has gained itself a substantial world-wide following. The band’s last album, “All Rights Removed”, which appeared in 2011, was hailed by critics and fans alike and was awarded no less than six “Album of the Year” titles.  AIRBAG has also developed into a solid live act appearing at several major festivals and venues, including supporting MARILLION on their Scandinavian mini-tour and playing at the ‘Night of the Prog’ festival in Loreley, Germany.

AIRBAG’s lineup  includes Asle Tostrup on lead vocals, Bjørn Riis on guitars and vocals, Jørgen Hagen on keyboards, Henrik Fossum on drums and Anders Hovdan on bass.  More information about AIRBAG can be found on the band’s website at www.airbagsound.com
