FOSCOR
One of the very few Dark Metal bands to hail from the city of Barcelona, in the Catalan region of Spain, FOSCOR was formed in late 1997. Basing the band’s distinctive image on The Modernist period of Catalan art, FOSCOR developed a musical style which, although it had its roots in 90’s Black Metal, had its own unique flavour, blending the best of classical and modern extreme metal with FOSCOR’s own ideas and interpretations. It is also worth noting that FOSCOR is also one of the few metal bands in any genre that uses both the Catalan and English languages in its lyrics.
Written in 1999, FOSCOR’s first full-length album “Entrance to the Shadow’s Village” was released in 2004 on Sacral Productions, and re-released in 2006 on Adipocere. The band went on to sign with Temple of Darkness Records, who released FOSCOR’s second full-length album “The Smile of the Sad Ones” in 2007, and their third full-length “Groans to the Guilty” in 2009. Additionally, FOSCOR took part in the releases “December Songs – A Tribute to Katatonia” on Northern Silence Productions “Toteninsel- A Tribute to Arnold Böcklin” on Vendlus Records as well as a split MCD with the Bosnian band KRV, which featured earlier demo material, and the split 7” with NECROSADIK “Onsalught of Black Putrefaction”.
Having played live and toured regularly in Europe since 2004, FOSCOR has built up a reputation for dynamic and aggressive stage performances, underpinned by the eeriness of the Catalan language, a fact that attracted the attention of Stigia Management who became the band’s booking agent in 2011. In early 2012 FOSCOR joined the Management roster of the UK-based Black and Extreme Metal manager Patricia Thomas, a long time friend of the band, who works with some of the legendary Black Metal artists as well as some of the best upcoming new talent in the Extreme Metal genres. With booking and management now firmly in place, 2012 heralds a new chapter for FOSCOR which sees a change to the line up, with the departure after 7 years of rhythm guitarist Wilhkiem and the seamless arrival of his replacement Albert M, former lead guitarist with the now defunct VIDRES A LA SANG.
But 2012 is very definitely a time to celebrate as it marks the 10th Anniversary of the release of FOSCOR’s first ever promo, and the band plan to celebrate in style. With a series of live appearances confirmed or in the planning stage, the release of the commemorative DVD “Deu Anys Vers la Foscor” under the new label Darkwoods, new merchandise, a track on the soon to be released tribute album “ÖND – A Tribute to Enslaved”, which will appear on Pictonian Records, and work having begun on the band’s fourth full-length album, the year has gone off to a flying start for FOSCOR whose renewed enthusiasm and determination will lead the band to bigger and better things.
