CREST OF DARKNESS was formed in the mid-nineties by frontman Ingar Amlien, at a time when his then-band CONCEPTION was at the peak of its popularity.  Unlike CONCEPTION, which tended more towards the Progressive side of Power Metal, CREST OF DARKNESS allowed Amlien to explore his interest in Vampirism and Satanic ideology, which, combined with his passion for sonic brutality, created a much more extreme sound that has grown in power and intensity over the 18 years since the band’s inception.

The lineup on “In the Presence of Death” includes Amlien on vocals and bass, Rebo on lead guitars, Kjetil Hektoen on drums and Kjell Arne Hubred on rhythm guitars.  Hubred recently left the band and and was replaced by DJEVELKULT guitarist Jan Fredrik Solheim.  Track listing for “In the Presence of Death” as follows:

CREST OF DARKNESS founder and frontman Ingar Amlien together with drummer Kjetil Hektoen will join members of LEGIONES, ENTHRAL and THE EMBRACED in a specially formed band called SYTHANAGON WINGED to perform five songs by the late Thomas “Quorthon” Forsberg, founder of BATHORY and one of the pioneers of the first wave of Black and Pagan/Viking Metal.  The event, which is billed as “Blood, Fire and Death – In Memory of Quorthon”, will take place on Saturday 17 November at the Fru Lundgreen in Trondheim, Norway, and as well as SYTHANAGON WINGED, other bands taking part include CHTON, CLEAVER, LAW OF THE HORSEMEN and A SORCERY WRITTEN IN BLOOD.

Commenting on the Quorthon Tribute event, Amlien, who started his musical career with the progressive band CONCEPTION before forming CREST OF DARKNESS, a vehicle that allows him to explore the more vampiric and satanic elements that interest him, said: “It’s a huge honour to be part of a tribute to an incredible musician. One who has influenced and inspired, and will continue to influence and inspire, generations of other musicians.  It’s no exaggeration to say that many of today’s bands would probably not be around without him.  Kjetil and I have been rehearsing hard with the rest of the guys and we are ready and very much looking forward to performing the BATHORY songs and do them the justice they deserve”.

The first details of the latest album from Norwegian Black Metallers CREST OF DARKNESS have just been revealed.  Active on the Norwegian Black Metal scene since the mid-nineties, CREST OF DARKNESS, with its sonic brutality and dark themes, was founded by musician Ingar Amlien, who left behind his roots in progressive metal  to create a vehicle that would allow him to express his interest in Satanic ideology and vampirism.   Scheduled for release on the 11^th February 2013 on My Kingdom Music, the ten-track album will be titled “In the Presence of Death” and promises to be the most complete, extreme and dark album the band has ever recorded.

Recently CREST OF DARKNESS announced the addition of DJEVELKULT guitarist Jan Fredrik Solheim to replace the outgoing Kjell Arne Hubred, a seven year veteran with the band who was leaving to devote more time to his young family, which, according to Amlien, was entirely understandable given that the band had plans increase activity with the upcoming release of the album.  Solheim, he went on to say has “brought a renewed sense of enthusiasm and purpose to the band, and as far as I’m concerned CREST OF DARKNESS is sounding better and stronger than ever”.   Aside from Amlien on bass and vocals and Solheim on guitars, CREST OF DARKNESS’ current lineup includes Rebo on guitars and Kjetil Hektoen on drums.

Norwegian Black Metallers CREST OF DARKNESS have today announced a change in lineup that sees the departure of  Kjell Arne Hubred after seven years with the band, and the arrival of DJEVELKULT guitarist Jan Fredrik Solheim to replace him.  “It’s sad to be saying goodbye to Kjell Arne after all this time” said founder and front man Ingar Amlien, “but he has a young family and with CREST OF DARKNESS intending to work harder than ever, it was too difficult for him to devote the amount of time to the band that would be needed, and that’s something we understand.  We’ve been very lucky in finding Jan Fredrik to replace him.  He’s young, talented, highly motivated and has plenty of ambition.  We’ve rehearsed with him several times and it was obvious that he knew CREST OF DARKNESS’ music long before he joined us.  With the release of our new album imminent, he has brought a renewed sense of enthusiasm and purpose to the band, and as far as I’m concerned we’re sounding better and stronger than ever”.
