SHINING RELEASES FIRST EVER VIDEO

Sweden’s extreme Metallers SHINING have, for the first time in the band’s 15 year history, released a video for a track from one of their albums. The video was Directed by Martin Strandberg & Niklas Kvarforth, produced by Martin Strandberg and created by Black Shadows Filmproductions & Hill Fifty and uses the track “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel” from the new album “VII / Född Förlorare”. It has been released in both censored and uncensored versions given the graphic nature of some of the scenes, and can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/officialshining.

“We know we are going to get heavily criticised for some of the scenes” commented front man and founder Niklas Kvarforth, “but it’s nothing more than you will see as soon as you switch on a television or watch a movie, or walk down a city street come to that. But we’re SHINING and it’s always open season on SHINING when it comes to people who have neither understood, nor taken the time to try and understand, where the band is coming from”.

SHINING’s seventh full length album “VII / Född Förlorare”, which in English means “Born Loser” was released this month on the band’s new label Spinefarm Records, and includes guest appearances from Erik Danielsson of WATAIN, Chris Amott of ARCH ENEMY, Peter Bjärgö of ARCANA, and Nordman, who is one of Sweden’s biggest pop stars. The band also recently announced that it would be releasing its first ever single, which, aside from “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel”, will include a cover ALICE COOPER song “Prince of Darkness”. The single will only be available in Sweden for the time being, although, according to Kvarforth, the band is looking into the possibility of releasing a different version elsewhere.

HELLISH OUTCAST DEBUTS TRACKS FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM

HELLISH OUTCAST has debuted two tracks from the band’s upcoming album “Your God Will Bleed”.  A follow up to the controversial EP “Raping – Killing – Murder”, “Your God Will Bleed” will be HELLISH OUTCAST’s debut full length album, and the first release to feature the band’s new vocalist Thebon (KEEP OF KALESSIN), who joined the band in 2010. Formed in Bergen, Norway, in 2001 by drummer Mads Lilletvedt (BYFROST, SOLSTORM), guitarist Martin Legreid (66CRUSHER) and bassist Mads Mowinckel (BREED), HELLISH OUTCAST play a blood soaked mix of Thrash and Death Metal, and are seen as one of the most aggressive live bands on the burgeoning Bergen music scene.  The arrival of Thebon to front the band has given HELLISH OUTCAST a keener edge, and whilst fans in Norway have already been able to see him in action on stage, the chance for fans elsewhere will come this summer, when the band is due to play at Lithuania’s Devilstone Festival on the 15th July, and the UK’s Bloodstock Festival on the 14th August.

SHINING SET TO RELEASE SINGLE

With the long-awaited seventh full-length album out this month on Spinefarm Records, Extreme Metallers SHINING are set to release a CD single which will only be available in their home country of Sweden.  The single will comprise two tracks, one being “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel”, taken from the new album “VII / Född Förlorare”, whilst the second will be a previously un-released cover of the ALICE COOPER song “Prince of Darkness”.

This will be the first time that SHINING has released a single, and founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth is hopeful that the new video, which was filmed recently and is currently being edited, will be included along with the two tracks.  “We are trying to get the video included, but the people behind the single are a little nervous, and probably quite rightly so given its subject matter and content.  We are looking into the possibility of maybe including a censored version.  We’ll see how that pans out, but whatever happens, the uncensored version will definitely appear very soon, so SHINING fans who have been waiting for it, will not be disappointed”.

Following the Swedish release, the band will consider the possibility of releasing a different version of the single elsewhere.

SOPHOMORE ALBUM FROM PROG METALLERS 66CRUSHER OUT ON MISANTHROPICA ENTERPRISES

Friday the 20th May sees the release on San Diego’s Misanthropica Enterprises,  of ”Blackest Day”, the sophomore album from Progressive Metallers 66CRUSHER.  The nine-track album is the  follow up to the 2007 acclaimed debut ”Truth Unmasked”. The recording of ”Blackest Day” was split between the band, who recorded the guitars, vocals, bass and keys themselves, and two of Norway’s leading musicians and producers, with VULTURE INDUSTRIES and BLACK HOLE GENERATOR front man Bjornar E. Nilsen recording the drums and ENSLAVED and AUDREY HORNE’s Herbrand Larsen handling the mixing and mastering at their Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen.

A band that blends Progressive elements with Thrash and classical Metal to produce a very distinctive sound, 66CRUSHER was formed in the late 1990’s by vocalist and guitarist Jarle Olsvoll and drummer Håkon Obdsaija Bergstad (ex DEVAR), in their home town of Bergen.  The arrival of Jonny Wolf on guitars and  Øystein Kummen on bass in 2001/02 allowed the band to really come into its own, and live appearances and a couple of demos followed, leading to an offer from the US label Misanthropica Enterprises for the release of ”Truth Unmasked”.  2009 saw one more change in the lineup, with the arrival of Martin Legreid to replace the departing Wolf.  Legreid, guitarist with  HELLISH OUTCAST, is considered by many to  be the godfather of the Bergen Thrash/Death Metal scene.  More information about the band can be found at http://www.66crusher.com

BYFROST DEBUTS TRACKS FROM FORTHCOMING RELEASE. ALBUM DETAILS REVEALED

Blackened Metallers BYFROST have debuted two tracks from the band’s second full-length album “Of Death”.   The 8 track album, which is due for release on AFM Records in June in both CD and LP formats, was recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios in the band’s home town of Bergen, Norway, and was produced by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen together with BYFROST, and co-produced by ENSLAVED guitarist Ice Dale. Mastering was carried out by Knut Fug Prytz at the Magica Mastering Studio.  Artwork and Design are once again in the hands of Christian Sloan Hall, known for his work with bands like DIMMU BORGIR and SLAYER.   The two tracks “Of Death” and “Buried Alive” can be heard on the SoundCloud player above.  Formed in 2007 by front man and guitarist HeavyHarms and bassist R.I.P Meister, the band’s first release was the “Byfrostmetal” EP, which appeared in 2008 whilst the band was still a four piece.  The debut full length album “Black Earth” was released in 2010, by which time BYFROST had become a three piece, and had been joined on drums by Mads Liletvedt (HELLISH OUTCAST).  “Black Earth” marked the continuing cooperation between the band and ENSLAVED members Ice Dale, who guested on the album, and Larsen, who, aside from producing both full-lengths, also features on two tracks on the upcoming “Of Death”.

BYFROST are scheduled to appear at this year’s Pary.San Festival in Germany and the Bloodstock Festival in the UK in August and this will be the first time that fans outside of Norway will be able to see the band perform tracks from the new album.  “Of Death” itself is set for release on the 24th June in Germany, and will hit the streets worldwide on the 27th.  More information about BYFROST can be found at http://www.myspace.com/byfrostmetal

BLACK METALLERS WRATH PASSION SIGN LICENCE AGREEMENT WITH PSYCHO 78s CO-ED ROLLER DERBY TEAM

WRATH PASSION, the Black Metal band formed by Daniel Markussen in Lofoten, Norway in 2007, has signed a licensing deal with the PSYCHO 78s, the American, no-holds barred co-ed Roller Derby team from New Jersey.   Started in 2009 by Razor De Rockefeller, the 78’s have grown to become one of the most exciting, hard-hitting and crowd pleasing teams in the world of modern Roller Derby, specialising in full-contact games with no penalties and no clock-stops, and one simple rule “do unto others as you’d have done unto you”.

Commenting on what at first sight seems like an unlikely hook up, Coach Spooky, Head Trainer for the PSYCHO 78s said: “Our no-bullshit take on the game and love of brutality on the track has made us a one of a kind team, and a team that WRATH PASSION fits perfectly with.  The 78s are hard hitting and in your face, and the music of Wrath Passion is the perfect backdrop for the high pace, the bloodshed, and the roar of the crowd”.

Markussen, for whom WRATH PASSION is a vehicle for expressing his unique take on life, was himself a little surprised at the turn of events that led to him sign a license deal that would allow the 78s to use three tracks – “Creatio Ex Nihilo”, “Christian Extermination” and “Black Hole”  on DVD, events, live performances and exhibitions. “The game was completely new to me, and I have to admit that sports don’t particularly interest me as a rule, but I found this brutal and bloody variation of the Roller Derby fucking fun to watch and I was happy to allow the 78s to use WRATH PASSION’s music”.

Originally formed as a one-man project, WRATH PASSION’s line up today includes, Markussen, who plays all instruments, and vocalist Anton van Niekerk (VERKRAG).
