With their debut full-length album set for release in the autumn, EUDAIMONY, the Swedish/German band that features current and former members of NAGLFAR, DARK FORTRESS, NACHTREICH and SECRETS OF THE MOON in its lineup, has today announced the  full track-listing for the 8-track album “Futile”, which features a guest appearance by ANTIMATTER’s Mick Moss.   The newly completed artwork for the album is by Ben Borucki (Irrleuchten) from the German band SONIC REIGN. Full track listing for “Futile”, which will be released on the Cold Dimensions label, is as follows:

1. Ways to Indifference
2. Mute
3. A Window in the Attic
4. Futile
5. Portraits
6. Cold
7. Godforsaken
8. December’s Hearse

Although formed back in 2007 by former DARK FORTRESS frontman Matthias Jell and Marcus E. Norman (NAGLFAR, BEWITCHED, HAVAYOTH, ANCIENT WISDOM), EUDAIMONY only recorded three songs before the schedules of all its members, which, aside from Jell on vocals and Norman on guitars, bass, synthesizer and programming includes of Jörg Heemann (SECRETS OF THE MOON) on drums and Peter Honsalek (NACHTREICH) on viola and piano, caught up with the band.  Added to this were a few label issues that had to be resolved, so things were put on the back burner until March 2013 when everyone was finally free to begin recording the band’s debut full-length album.

EUDAIMONY recently debuted the title track from the album, and although many see the band’s logical home as being within the Black Metal and Depressive Black Metal genres, mainly because of the backgrounds of its members, Jell was quick to point out that this should really not be the case.  “EUDAIMONY’s music is about emotional hopelessness and the futility of life, and is a world away from the usual subject matters that Black Metal tends to deal with.  The whole visual and the lyrical concepts of EUDAIMIONY combine together to send out the message that the end of our lives begins from the instant we first draw breath, happiness on earth is just an illusion and life itself has no sense except in death.  The debut track “Futile” can be heard on EUDAIMONY’s SoundCloud player at the top of the article and at http://soundcloud.com/eudaimony/eudaimony-futile

With a new album about to be released, SLEGEST founder and frontman Ese has put together a live lineup to take what was initially a solo project onto the stage.   “As soon as the album was announced I was being asked if the band would ever play live” says the former VREID guitarist, “and, as it happens, the time felt right to take the next step in SLEGEST’s development. Once I had everyone on board, the thought of playing live again felt really good.  It’s one of the greatest satisfactions there is when you play music, and honestly we can’t wait to get up there on stage”.  Aside from Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, SLEGEST’s live line up includes  Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER)  on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums.

SLEGEST are also working on a music video for “Ho Som Haustar Aleine” the opening track on the band’s upcoming album “Løyndom”.  The video is being produced by Håvard Nesbø and Ørjan Talle, and, according to Ese, the budget is 1 case of Hansa beer and 1 litre of Mackmyra Brukswhisky! The video will premiere in September.

“Løyndom” (Secret) will be the band’s debut full-length album, and is set for release on Dark Essence records in the autumn.  Mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen and recorded partly in Ese’s own Systrond Studio and partly at the Conclave and Earshot Studio with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen, the artwork  for “Løyndom”  includes drawings by Jan Magne Vigdal and design by Tom Korsvold.  Track listing on the 8-track album, which is a perfect showcase for Ese’s special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal, is as follows:

1. Ho Som Haustar Aleine
2. Rooted In Knowledge
3. I Slike Stunder
4. Løgna Sin Fiende
5. The Path Of No Return
6. Faceless Queen
7. Dirt Life Death
8. Past Burden Strength

A track from “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, the upcoming album from Sweden’s SHINING due to be released on Dark Essence Records, has been debuted today. Featuring songs dating back to the band’s “Livets Ändhållplats” and “Angst” era, “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” is a rare foray for the band, in that all the vocals on all the tracks, bar-one, are performed by vocalists specially chosen by SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth, with some being sung in the native languages of the guests taking part.  “Selvdestruktivitetens Emissarie” the fourth track on the six-track album features Gaahl (GOD SEED, WARDRUNA, TRELLDOM, EX GORGOROTH ) on vocals and is currently being streamed by Metal Hammer, together with an interview with Niklas Kvarforth.  It can be heard at http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/exclusive-shining-swegaahl-track-and-interview/

The tracks on “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” are in their original pre-production format, to which have been added newly recorded bass and guitars, as well as keyboards by Lars Fredrik Fröslie (ANGST SKVADRON, WOBBLER, ASMEGIN), whose sound is a realtively new addition to SHINING’s releases, not having been used before the band’s sixth album.   Track listing and featured vocalists as follows:

1. Terres Des Anonymes featuring FAMINE of PESTE NOIRE
2. Szabadulj Meg Önmagadtól featuring ATTILA CSIHAR of MAYHEM, TORMENTOR
3. Ett Liv Utan Mening featuring PEHR LARSSON of ALFAHANNE
4. Selvdestruktivitetens Emissarie featuring GAAHL of GOD SEED, WARDRUNA, TRELLDOM, EX GORGOROTH
5. Black Industrial Misery featuring  MANIAC of SKITLIV, EX MAYHEM
6. Through Corridors Of Oppression featuring  KVARFORTH himself

“8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” will hit the streets on the 23rd September, and will be available both in CD and limited edition black or white 12” vinyl versions, with liner notes by Niklas Kvarforth.  Artwork for the album is by Michal Pawlowski (miszaa.tumblr.com). With most of their old releases now largely unavailable, Norwegian Black Metallers TROLL have decided to make their entire back catalogue available for digital download via BandCamp.  Available are 1995’s four-track EP “Trollstorm Over Nidingjuv”, 1996’s full-length “Drep de Kristne”, an album viewed by many as one of THE defining Black Metal releases,  2000’s “The Last Predators” and 2001’s “Universal”.  The only album that will not be released this way is 2010’s “Neo-Satanic Supremacy” the rights of which are still owned by Napalm Records.  All the albums come with new artwork and are available for a minimum price of 0.50 Euros, or as much more as the fans feel like paying direct from the band at http://officialtroll.bandcamp.com/

Commenting on the decision to digitally self-release what are effectively iconic albums, frontman and founder Nagash said:  “In today’s economy labels are really reluctant to release anything that has appeared previously, even though it is no longer available and regardless of how much demand there is from the fans.  Sure, you can find most things these days via illegal file-sharing sites, but if you want high quality sound versions, with the artwork, and without all the viruses and Trojans that come as “hidden extras” with illegal downloads, you are better off paying a few pence to buy it legally.  At least that way you are actually supporting the bands, and we believe that REAL fans are getting tired of everyone trying to rip off the bands, and genuinely want to support them”.

As well as the digital release, “Drep De Kristne” will be released on vinyl, in a limited edition Gatefold, in both gold and black versions.  The vinyl will appear in October, in time for the band’s European tour, during which TROLL will play the entire album live at a special After Party at the Aurora Infernalis Festival in Arnhem on the 26th October.  Full routing for the “Incantations for the World’s End” tour, with DODHEIMSGARD, TROLL and HETROERTZEN as follows:

Oct 16 – John Dee, Oslo, Norway
Oct 17 – Beta, Copenhagen, Denmark
Oct 18 – K17,  Berlin, Germany
Oct 19 – Hoodoo Music Club, Prague, Czech Republic
Oct 20 – Channel Zero, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Oct 21 – Viper Room, Vienna, Austria
Oct 22 – Novara Rock & Roll Arena, Novara, Italy
Oct 23 – Glaz’Art, Paris, France
Oct 24 – Le Romandie, Lausanne, Switzerland
Oct 25 – Magasin 4, Brussels, Belgium
Oct 26 – The Stage, Arnhem, Netherlands
Oct 27 – Simplon Grote Zaal, Groningen, Netherlands

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS has announced that it has inked a deal with Swedish rockers ALFAHANNE – a considerable achievement for the relatively young band as it takes its place amongst the well established, and in some cases legendary names that feature in the Norwegian label’s roster.  All the more so when you consider that ALFAHANNE have been able to attract the services of TAAKE’s Hoest, SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth, and HELHEIM’s V’gandr as guest artist on what will be the band’s debut full-length album which is set to hit the streets in January of next year.

Formed in 2010, ALFAHANNE’s debut release came in 2013 with the appearance of the “Grym” split 7” with Sweden’s SHINING.   Playing what the band calls “Alfapocalyptic Rock”, which mixes Black Metal with Classic Rock and Punk, and topped off with some Goth influences, ALFAHANNE has created a style of music that is powerful and beautiful, yet ugly at the same time, and about which the band says:  “When you are into it you don´t feel pleasure and you don´t feel pain but you definitely FEEL”.

Although ALFAHANNE itself might be a fairly new name to a lot of people, the band’s members, which include Pehr Skioldhammer on Vocals and Guitar, Fredrik Sööberg on Guitars, Niklas Åström on Drums and Jimmy Wiberg on Bass,  have been around the Black Metal scene since the early ‘90’s, playing in bands like VINTERLAND and early MAZE OF TORMENT.  Skioldhammer in fact is one of the featured guest vocalists on the upcoming release from Niklas Kvarforth’s SHINING “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, which will be released on Dark Essence Records on the 23 September.

Commenting on the upcoming album and their collaboration with Dark Essence Records ALFAHANNE said: “The Mayan’s got it wrong about 2012, but we’re pretty sure we’ll be proved right when we say that the “Alfapocalypse” will happen in 2014 when the new album hits the streets.  With ALFHANNE there is one way in and no way out”.

”Dödsmaskinen” an original demo track from ALFAHANNE and featuring Niklas Kvarforth can be heard on the player at the top of this article,  and on the band’s SoundCloud page at http://soundcloud.com/alfahanne

More information about ALFAHANNE can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/alfahanneofficial

Dark Essence Records has revealed more details about the debut album from SLEGEST, the solo project of former VREID guitarist Ese.  Set for release later this year, the eight-track album will be titled “Løyndom” (Secret) and was recorded partly in Ese’s own Systrond Studio and partly at the Conclave and Earshot Studio with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen.  The album is mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen.  Track listing for “Løyndom” as follows:

1. Ho Som Haustar Aleine
2. Rooted In Knowledge
3. I Slike Stunder
4. Løgna Sin Fiende
5. The Path Of No Return
6. Faceless Queen
7. Dirt Life Death
8. Past Burden Strength

SLEGEST was born in 2010, following Ese’s departure from VREID, where he played guitar on four of the iconic band’s albums.  Drawing his inspiration from BLACK SABBATH, Ese’s use of harsh vocals to create a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal was used to great effect on the band’s first release, the self-titled SLEGEST EP which appeared in 2012.  One year later Ese has developed SLEGEST’s sound further, honing it to achieve a result that is both dark and sinister, whilst at the same time losing none of the dirtiness that can be heard in the unmistakable catchy groove that weaves its way through the music.

Whilst SLEGEST started life as solo project, with Ese handling vocals and playing all the instruments on “Løyndom”, apart from a guest solo by former VREID band-mate Sture, it became apparent very quickly to everyone who heard the album that the potential for taking SLEGEST further and turning it into a live band was unmistakable and to ignore it would be insanity.  As a result a live line-up has been put together and will be seen at festivals in the near future.

Dark Essence Records have inked a two-album deal with Black Metallers SARKOM and are expected to release the band’s third full length album, titled “Doomsday Elite”, later this year.  Track listing for “Doomsday Elite” as follows:

1. Doomsday Elite
2. I Utakt Med Gud
3. No Loose Ends
4. Inside a Haunted Chapel
5. Predators in Disguise
6. Solemn Disorder ‘til Human Extinction
7. Cosmic Intellect
8. Stigma

Formed in 2003 in Oslo, Norway, by frontman Erik Unsgaard (SO MUCH FOR NOTHING) and then-drummer Eirik Renton (ex-URGEHAL), SARKOM, whose core members comprise Unsgaard on vocals and Sgt. V. (SVARTTJERN) on bass, will shortly present a new live lineup, ready for the release of “Doomsday Elite”, something Unsgaard is feeling very positive about.  “Regarding our collaboration with Dark Essence Records”, the frontman said, “we are very much looking forward to working with everyone at the label.   I’ve heard a lot of positive things, and hopefully they are in the right position to take SARKOM one step further on this journey of ours!”

Commenting on the new album and SARKOM’s place in the Black Metal scene, Unsgaard went on to say:  “It is said that black metal is about individuality and not following trends.  I am not saying that SARKOM is a Black Metal band, but it sure is extreme enough and most likely that is how we will be categorised. Personally I don’t mind what label people tag us with, but with this album I can say that we have gone beyond the borders of what is accepted within the “scene”, at least the scene as defined by those who see themselves as “true”.  According to the trend nowadays, which has absolutely nothing to do with what Black Metal is actually about, we should probably have played either old school heavy/prog or occult trash/black metal to gain maximum publicity. But fuck that. We do what we want and that’s exactly how it should be.  We also have no intention of repeating ourselves and it is my hope, and intention, that SARKOM will keep developing in the future, in one way or the other.  I am sure that some SARKOM fans are expecting another “Bestial Supremacy” and they will be surprised by “Doomsday Elite”.  With four songwriters from different backgrounds this is, and is meant to be, an album without boundaries. Hopefully you will like it, but if not, you can always listen to Skyforger or something”.

VULTURE INDUSTRIES, already famed for the theatricality of the stage performances of their frontman Bjornar Nilsen, have taken it a stage further by joining forces with the HAPPY GORILLA DANCE COMPANY to create “Turning Golem”, a show that is part concert rooted in the heavier segment of experimental/progressive metal and part theatre performance.  Commenting on the band’s decision to step outside the boundaries of a straight musical performance, Nilsen had this to say: “This project is a great opportunity for us to cultivate our theatrical side, and to cross breed the howling hounds of hell with the delirious dingoes of drama. Those familiar with the energy and singularity of a VULTURE INDUSTRIES live show and who wonder how much further we can take it, are about to find out.”

“Turning Golem” features music that was especially composed for the piece, and which was inspired by the music of the Ancient Sumerians – the oldest written music that has been found to date. The show will be staged on three separate occasions, the first being on the 17th August at the Dark Bombastic Evening in Transylvania, Romania, and the second at the Garage in Bergen, Norway on the 25 th October, while the third will take place at the Phantoms of Pilsen Festival in the Czech Republic on the 26th October.  The theme of “Turning Golem” is based around the premise that “truth” is relative and that we all have an inherent need to define ourselves and our world by means of a manufactured infallible system of truths. It’s about our need to believe in order to justify our own existence; about our need for meaning, and the anguish of the void.  A short movie about “Turning Golem” is also in the works.

With a their new full-length album “The Tower” due out on Season of Mist on the 27th September in Europe and the 01 October in North America, VULTURE INDUSTRIES will include the first live debut of five tracks from the album during the “Turning Golem” show in Romania.  The show in Bergen, which is coincidentally the home town of both VULTURE INDUSTRIES and the HAPPY GORILLA COMPANY is a collaboration with BIT-Teatergarasjen, and forms part of their METEOR Theatre Festival, which will also feature an exhibition by Romanian designer Costin Chorineu  and his creations based on “Turning Golem”.  The show will also serve as the release party for “The Tower”.

VULTURE INDUSTRIES are due to hit the road in September for a tour alongside LEPROUS.  Tour routing as follows:

13/9: John Dee, Oslo, Norway

14/9: Tribute, Sandnes, Norway

15/9: Buddy, Drammen, Norway

16/9: Parkbiografen, Skien, Norway

17/9: Musikken Hus, Gothenburg, Sweden

18/9: Debaser, Stockholm, Sweden

20/9: Nosturi, Helsinki, Finland

21/9: A2/Sputnik, St Petersburg, Russia

22/9: Tapper Club, Tallinn, Estonia

25/9: Progresja, Warsaw, Poland

26/9: Kwadrat, Kracow, Poland

The long-awaited details about which vocalists would be featuring on “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, the new album from Sweden’s SHINING, have been announced today, and not unsurprisingly Niklas Kvarforth has chosen some of the most iconic frontmen from the Extreme Metal genre, as well as a some perhaps surprising choices, to take part in the project. Track listing on “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”and featured vocalists as follows:

1. Terres Des Anonymes featuring FAMINE of PESTE NOIRE
2. Szabadulj Meg Önmagadtól featuring ATTILA CSIHAR of MAYHEM, TORMENTOR
3. Ett Liv Utan Mening featuring PEHR LARSSON of ALFAHANNE
4. Selvdestruktivitetens Emissarie featuring GAAHL of GOD SEED, WARDRUNA, EX GORGOROTH
5. Black Industrial Misery featuring  MANIAC of SKITLIV, EX MAYHEM
6. Through Corridors Of Oppression featuring  KVARFORTH himself

The six songs on “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” date back to SHINING’s “Livets Ändhållplats” and “Angst” era and are in their original pre-production form, with the addition of newly recorded bass and guitars as well as Lars Fredrik Fröslie on keyboards (ANGST SKVADRON, WOBBLER, ASMEGIN), which the band didn’t start using until their sixth album.  Set for release on DARK ESSENCE RECORDS on the 23rd September “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” will be available both in CD and limited edition black or white 12” vinyl versions, with liner notes by Niklas Kvarforth. All three versions are now available to pre-order from Dark Essence Records at http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/artist/shining or direct from the band at http://www.shininglegions.com/.

SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth has wanted to do this project for many years now, and he allowed all the vocalists free reign to interpret the songs as they wished and also to sing in their own native languages.  Something that Dark Essence’s Martin Kvam feels fits right in with the label’s ethos of mixing tradition with innovation.  “With “28 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” SHINING  has really encapsulated what we enjoy doing most as a label, looking back as it does to an earlier period, but with a completely fresh approach and different interpretation of what have now become classics in the field of Extreme Metal. SHINING fans are certainly not going to be disappointed when they hear what this album has to offer.”
