Shaman Elephant PR2020

When you consider that SHAMAN ELEPHANT’s debut album “Crystals” caused Prog fans to sit up and take notice when it hit the streets in 2016, it looks very much like those fans will have much more to look forward to from the Psychedelic  Prog Rockers with the upcoming release of their sophomore full-length “Wide Awake but Still Asleep”,  because, as the band says:

With this album we feel like we have found out who we want to be as a band. Whilst the first album was going in all directions, this album feels more focused and mature. “Wide Awake but Still Asleep” is our attempt at making the melodies move like butterflies while the grooves sting like killer bees.

Set for release on Karisma Records on the 29th May, SHAMAN ELEPHANT have today released a single from “Wide Awake but Still Asleep”.  The track, “Magnets” can be streamed or downloaded at https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/Magnets

A
SHAMAN ELEPHANT had this to say about the track:

“Magnets” is our attempt at making a prog rock song that is approachable for a wider audience than some of our previous releases – while at the same time staying true to what we love; intricate melodies, harmonies and locomotive riffs and rhythms.

SHAMAN ELEPHANT has always been a band that is able to demonstrate an uncanny skill in the art of blending 60s and 70s psychedelia with progressive rock, sounding as impressive in the studio, as they do live on stage – as fans who have witnessed their shows in Norway and Europe are able to attest.  And, with “Wide Awake but Still Asleep”,  the lineup of Eirik Sejersted Vognstølen on vocals and guitar, Jard Hole on drums, Ole-Andreas Sæbø Jensen on  bass, and Jonas Særsten on keyboards, shows just how much the band has matured in terms of song writing and  musicianship, without losing any of that SHAMAN ELEPHANT charm.

Produced by ENSLAVED’s  Iver Sandøy  at the Solslottet Studio, and with cover design by Maja Markegård and photography by Tom Wøbbekind, “Wide Awake but Still Asleep” will be available in CD, LP (both Black and Transparent Orange vinyl versions) and Digital formats.  Track listing is as follows:

  1. Wide Awake but Still Asleep
  2. H.M.S. Death, Rattle and Roll
  3. Steely Dan
  4. Ease of Mind
  5. Magnets
  6. Traveller
  7. Strange Illusions
