Norwegian Viking Metallers HELHEIM are set to celebrate their 20 year history with a special concert at the Inside Rock Café in their home town of Bergen on Friday 2nd November.  The event will also feature local bands and special guests, and, according to the band, the venue, with its intimate surroundings, has been especially chosen so that it becomes a true celebration amongst fans and friends.   However, after receiving many messages from fans outside of Norway who would obviously not be able to attend, HELHEIM have decided to stream the performance live on their website at http://www.helheim.com/live and the stream will begin at precisely 22:00 Norwegian time and will remain available to be viewed for a period of time after the event.

NARROWHEAD, whose frontman has frequently guested on vocals for HELHEIM, along with the all-girl rock band FAIRY and punk rockers BEINKJØR will also be playing at the event.  There will be other guests throughout the evening, but according to HELHEIM: “we prefer to keep it all as a surprise.  It wouldn’t be a real party if there weren’t a few surprises for everyone!”

Rather than being one of the manufactured Viking acts that proliferate on the scene these days, HELHEIM, have, throughout their 20 years of existence, always remained true to their Norse Heritage.  As one of the oldest of Norway’s Viking bands, HELHEIM, with their majestic epic songs convey an accurate and proud sense of past, not just through their lyrics and music, which often includes the use of traditional instruments,  but also in their stage performances, which feature VJ effects that enhance the themes and concepts explored by the band.  More information about HELHEIM can be found on the band’s website at http://www.helheim.com

The official video of the track “Dualitet og Ulver” which features a guest appearance from TAAKE’s Hoest, from HELHEIM’s ”Heiðindómr ok mótgangr” album can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/P_fw_nsSHeA:

Sat 15 Dec: TBC

VIRUS was formed in 2000 by guitarist / singer Carl-Michael “Czral” Eide (AURA NOIR, former / founder member of ULVER, SATYRICON, DØDHEIMSGARD, CADAVER etc., along with bass player extraordinaire Petter “Plenum” Berntsen (AUDIOPAIN) and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø (LAMENTED SOULS, INFERNÖ,ex BEYOND DAWN), with the intention of taking key elements of Czral’s former avant-garde black metal band VED BUENS ENDE further into weirdness and farther from metal. Through three critically acclaimed album releases Czral’s unique dissonant guitar flavour and song writing has fascinated, puzzled and ensnared listeners worldwide, not least thanks to the live performances (as a 5-piece) the band have undertaken since early 2011, including  Sonisphere, Brutal Assault, Hole In The Sky, Aurora Infernalis etc.

VIRUS is also set to release a mini album to coincide with the tour.  Titled “Oblivion Clock”, the album runs at over thirty minutes and features four new track and three bonus tracks that until now have only been available on extremely limited releases.  At the same time band will also be releasing a new vinyl edition of their sophomore album “The Black Flux”.  “Oblivion Clock”, together with a new line of VIRUS merchandise, will be available as a digifile CD on the tour, and is also already available to pre-order from virulentmusic.bigcartel.com along with the “Black Flux” vinyl. More information about VIRUS can be found on the band’s website at http://virusnorway.com/

The other three bands on the tour all bring their own very individual interpretations of the eclectic experimental/avant-garde genre.  VULTURE INDUSTRIES, whose style tends towards the more progressive and extreme, are fronted by Bjornar Nilsen, known for his manic theatrical performances which garner praise for the band wherever they appear.  They have just signed with Season of Mist for the release of their third-full length album, and will be debuting new material during the tour.  More information on VULTURE INDUSTRIES can be found the band’s website at http://www.vulture-industries.net/

KRAKOW, whose second full-length album “diin” was released on Dark Essence Records in September, could fit equally well within the post-rock, metal and stoner rock genres with a sound that ranges from dark, evocative and mesmerizing to fast, aggressive and heavy.  They recently added KAMPFAR drummer Ask Ty Arctander to their line up. More information about KRAKOW can be found on the band’s website at http://www.krakowofficial.com/

Rounding off the line up is MONDVOLLAND, who bring touches of Black Folk metal deeply rooted in ancient myths and traditions of the Eastern Netherlands to their music. The release of their “Pestvogel” EP earlier this year showed that MONDVOLLAND was embarking on a different route from their debut full-length “d’Olde Roop”, with the intention of breathing new life into the somewhat staid Pagan/Folk scene. More information about MONDVOLLAND can be found on the band’s website at http://www.mondvolland.com/

Norway’s Dark Essence Records have announced the signing of the Ukrainian band RATTENFÄNGER, and the Bergen-based label is set to release their debut album “Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum” in late October/early November of this year.   Although RATTENFÄNGER is a new band, its lineup of Thurios on guitars, Krechet on bass, Vlad on drums and keyboards, and Roman on guitars and vocals, has a depth of musical experience behind them that most bands would envy, hailing as they do from cult acts such as DRUDKH, BLOOD OF KINGU, HATE FOREST and DARK AGES.

According to Dark Essence Records, if, after seeing this pedigree, anyone assumes that they know what to expect  from RATTENFÄNGER, they would most likely be off target, because this band is a very different beast indeed.  Inevitably there will be nuances from the members other projects, and comparisons can also be made with bands such as CELTIC FROST, early DARKTHRONE, ASPHYX, WINTER, BOLTHROWER and NIHILIST amongst others,  but RATTENFÄNGER, is the epitome of old-school death metal  and “Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum” has its own, very distinctive, sound.  It is pitch black and bone crushingly brutal. It is Death Metal in its original form – and it is devastating.  A track from the album can be heard at http://soundcloud.com/dark-essence-records/rattenf-nger-grimorium-verum and on the player above.

The name RATTENFÄNGER is taken from the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin (Rattenfänger von Hameln), who was hired by the townsfolk of Hameln, Germany, to rid the town of the rats that had overrun it.  Unfortunately he is deceived and cheated of his payment, and he exacts a dreadful revenge on the citizens.

Very much in keeping with the period of the legend, the lyrics for “Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum” are in Latin and are written in style of the medieval poets, the thinkers and the troubadours/minstrels of old. Track listing for “Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum”, which was recorded during the spring and summer of 2012 in Kharviv in the Ukraine, and produced by RATTENFÄNGER, is as follows:

1. Coelo Affixus Sed Terris Omnibus Sparsus – intro
2. Grimorium Verum
3. Victa Lacet Virtus
4. Nunc Scio Tenebris Lux
5. Allegoria De Gula Et Luxuria
6. Clausae Patent
7. Deest Remedii Locus, Ubi, Quae Vitia Fuerunt, Mores Fiunt
8. Regno, Regnavi, Regnabo

Post-rockers KRAKOW have been confirmed to support ENSLAVED on their upcoming Norwegian tour which will take place in October of this year.  The two bands are no strangers to each other, both hailing from Bergen and both having toured together for seven weeks during the “Vertebrae” tour of 2008.  ENSLAVED frontman Grutle Kjellson also makes a guest appearance on KRAKOW’s upcoming album “diin”, about which he had this to say:  “It was a great honour for me when KRAKOW asked me to do some guest vocals for them.  From not being that much more than “thirteenth out of a dozen” bands only a few years back, they have grown to be one of the most interesting new bands in the whole metal scene! Hard work, desire to make great music, and the fact that they don’t give a shit about “genre rules” and such, have made them the Avantgarde metal monster they are today. These guys are no copycats, they are the real deal! Watch out for Krakow”.  The connection between the two bands was further cemented recently, when KRAKOW covered the track “Center” on the recently released album “Önd – A tribute to Enslaved”.

Norwegian tour dates as follows:

04.10 Trondheim – Blæst
05.10 Oslo – John Dee
06.10 Hamar – Gregers
25.10 Stavanger – Folken
26.10 Kristiansand – Kick
02.11 Stord – Arena
03.11 Haugesund – Høvleriet

KRAKOW have debuted two tracks from the band’s upcoming album “diin” which is set for release on DARK ESSENCE RECORDS in September of this year.  “diin”  will be KRAKOW’s sophomore album, and a follow up to their 2009 debut “Monolith”.  The debut tracks, “Hymn to the Winds” and “Future Past” can be heard on the band’s SoundCloud page at  http://soundcloud.com/krakow_band

As well as well as having debuted the tracks, KRAKOW have also revealed the cover art for “diin”, which has been designed by one of America’s foremost tattoo artist THOMAS HOOPER.  Brooklyn-based HOOPER, who, as well as being a tattooist is also well known for his paintings and designs, has previously worked with bands such as DOOMRIDERS, TOMB, SCOTT KELLY and OLD MAN GLOOM.   According to KRAKOW guitarist and vocalist René Misje the chance to work with HOOPER is something the band relishes: “We are proud to have had such a talented and renowned artist to create the artwork for our new album. We are big admirers of his work and we were honoured when he agreed to work with us. We are eternally grateful and can only hope that our music does justice to his art”.  Information about THOMAS HOOPER and examples of his work can be found at http://meditationsinatrament.com/
