NIKLAS KVARFORTH’S SHINING ANNOUNCES BENELUX DATES

In keeping with their new touring policy which involves the band playing a set of dates in individual countries rather than long tours through several countries at a time , Sweden’s SHINING have announced that they will be playing two shows in Benelux in October of this year. The Benelux shows are as follows:

Earlier this week SHINING frontman and founder NIKLAS KVARFORTH explained the reason behind the band’s decision not to spend long periods of time on the road: “Basically we want to be able to give our audience the best show possible each time we are on stage. And weeks on the road stuck on a cramped, uncomfortable nightliner, with people you don’t even know and with no privacy in which to be able to rest and relax, is not conducive to any of us being able to give it our best on stage, particularly myself. So that’s something we will definitely not be doing. We have also decided that we do not want to be shunted into the usual venues that every tour seems to hit, but rather to choose to play better venues, with better facilities not only for ourselves, but also for the audience, wherever possible”.

As well as the series of individual tours in support of the release of the band’s ninth full-length album “IX / Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends” , which was released on Season of Mist on the 20th April, Shining will also be playing at various festivals during the year. With SHINING’s ninth full-length album “IX / Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends” hitting the streets world-wide on Season of Mist, the band has announced that it will play a series of dates in Germany in November. Supporting SHINING on the tour will be German bands IMPERIUM DEKADENZ and DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT . Tickets for the tour will go on sale on the 21 April. Routing as follows:

As frontman and founder NIKLAS KVARFORTH explains, the band has eschewed the idea of long tours through several countries in favour of shorter tours in individual countries: “Basically we want to be able to give our audience the best show possible each time we are on stage. With the release of their ninth full-length album set for the 20th April on Season of Mist, Sweden’s SHINING have come to an agreement with another French label, Never Dead Productions, to release five of the band’s full-length albums on pro tapes. Each album will be strictly limited to 100 copies and will include pins, patches or stickers, depending on the individual titles.

The release date of SHINING’s ninth full-length album, which will be titled “IX / Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends” and will appear on Season of Mist, has been set for the 20th April.

Commenting on the album, SHINING’s founder and frontman NIKLAS KVARFORTH had this to say: “For once I am extremely pleased with how the album turned out and I believe that the fevered presence of filth and uncompromising darkness is more prominent than ever before. Not only will our more recent fan-base “enjoy” the oppression contained therein but I am also certain that those who stopped listening to SHINING after our fifth album will find the new one plague-ridden with what some might have felt was lacking on the more recent efforts… that atmosphere of old”.

Sweden’s SHINING has released photos taken during the recent video shoot for a track from the band’s upcoming ninth full-length album, which is set to be released on Season of Mist in the spring. The photos, by Assi Viljanen, have been uploaded onto SHINING’s Facebook page and can be seen at http://www.facebook.com/shiningofficial

The only details regarding the video that SHINING is prepared to reveal for the time being is that it is being filmed in Helsinki, Finland and Belgrade, Serbia, and is directed by Martin Strandberg. Strandberg was also responsible for the videos for “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” and “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel” from the band’s seventh full length album “VII / Född Förlorare”, and is currently working on a “warts and all” documentary about the band.

Commenting on the video, SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth had this to say: “Although Martin has worked on our videos before, this one will be something quite different from any previous efforts “.

The last release from SHINING was “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd”, which appeared on Dark Essence Records in 2013 and featured guest vocals from some of the elite of Black Metal including ATTILA CSIHAR (MAYHEM, TORMENTOR), MANIAC (SKITLIV, EX MAYHEM), GAAHL (GOD SEED, WARDRUNA, TRELLDOM, EX GORGOROTH), FAMINE (PESTE NOIRE) and PEHR LARSSON (ALFAHANNE).

Sweden’s SHINING is set to hit the road again at the start of the New Year to undertake four dates in Finland as an extension to their previously announced Razors Across Europe tour. The dates are part of the “Feverdreams” events to promote the release of the band’s full-length album “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” which came out on Dark Essence Records at the end of September. FILM MAKER TO ACCOMPANY SWEDEN’S SHINING ON UPCOMING TOUR. NEW VIDEO TEASER RELEASED

Swedish film maker Martin Strandberg is set to accompany Niklas Kvarforths’ SHINING on their upcoming headlining European tour where he will film more footage and interviews for the documentary he is making about the band. Work on the documentary, which traces SHINING’s often turbulent history, was begun earlier this year, and is expected to finish in time for a general release towards the end of 2014. Whilst being the subject of the documentary, founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth is keen to emphasize that SHINING itself has no input or influence whatsoever on the content. “The documentary was entirely the idea of Martin Strandberg, and, other than being interviewed for it ourselves, we have no hand in it at all. All we know is that family, friends, former band members and who knows who else are contributing, but what they’re contributing we will have to wait to find out along with everyone else”.

SHINING’S NIKLAS KVARFORTH FEATURES IN NEW SUCHTHAUS VIDEO AND ALBUM

When sculptor Spacebrain released “The Dark Side and the Bright Side”, the debut album from his SUCHTHAUS project, in 2011, it was immediately apparent that not only was the music he produced eclectic, but so too were his collaborators, ranging from Maniac (SKITLIV, ex-Mayhem) to CURRENT 93’s David Tibet, Fredrik A. Juell (BURNING RUBBER, BERSERK BASTARDS) and singer Sibob Jawara. Now, with the band’s sophomore album “Motorbrain” taking shape, it seems that the tradition is set to continue, when SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth dropped by Spacebrain’s Oslo home recently to check in with his old friends, and ended up contributing vocals on one of the new tracks, which also showcases a performance by SUCHTHAUS drummer Hellhammer (MAYHEM). Since Spacebrain likes to “visualise” the band’s music as well, a video for the track, which is titled “Walls of Berlin”, was filmed on the spur of the moment, and can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/k–Wu4DWeQM

To try and classify SUCHTHAUS’ music is virtually impossible, since the musicians concerned work in a completely unstructured way, drawing on their mood at the time to take the ideas for each track forward, rather than writing set pieces. And, as previously mentioned, each track is enhanced by video, a practice which is unsurprising coming from a musician who started his career as a visual artist. Commenting on the new album, Spacebrain had this to say: “Motorbrain” will be totally different from our debut, “The Dark Side and the Bright Side”, as this time we will be making a pure metal album, but one that focuses on different nuances within the genre. Let’s just say that when we had a band meeting recently we concluded that we’d better hurry up and finish this album because the darker material was not good for our mental health!” Along with Spacebrain on vocals and bass, and Hellhammer on drums, SUCHTHAUS lineup includes co-founder Fruen on vocals and guitars, Ingvar on guitars and AD/HD on bass.

Explaining how his unexpected contribution to “Motorbrain” came about Niklas Kvarforth said: “Last weekend, Hoest (TAAKE) and I were on our way to a studio outside Oslo to do some recording for a project we’re both involved in. We did however have a few hours to kill in the capital before catching our train and ended up meeting some old friends of ours – an evening which unexpectedly resulted in additional recordings in the living room of former SKITLIV bassist Spacebrain for his upcoming SUCHTHAUS album. Spacey filmed some of it, which kinda bothered me at first, but for him… I owe him way more than that. Looking forward to hearing the result.”

Sweden’s SHINING is set to headline the “Razors Across Europe 2013 Tour” (a nod in the direction of the band’s 2007 tour “Razors Across Europe” with URGHEAL) which will take place over 17 dates during November and December of this year. CREST OF DARKNESS

CREST of DARKNESS is another band with a long history behind it – 18 years to be precise. With six full-length albums under their belts, CREST OF DARKNESS this year saw Kickass Metal webzine place two of those albums in first and second positions in their “Norwegian Heavy Metal Albums of All Time” feature.
