A book containing all the lyrics ever written by SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth is set to be published on the 7^th December.  The title will be “When Prozac No Longer Helps” and the first edition paperback will be hand-numbered in the author’s own blood.   The following statement regarding the publication of the book has been issued by Kvarforth:

“Far too long I’ve been pestered each and every day by people from all around this disgusting planet asking if I can translate this or that lyric into English. Up till a few months ago this seemed to be an impossible task due to the poetic style I use when writing Swedish. However, after several months of frustration I put something truly horrific together and was so pleased with the result that I decided to collect them all and publish them in the form of a book.

“I don’t think many of you are truly interested in reading these even though you say you are.  As we all know, it is “true” to state you really do care about the lyrics of a band like SHINING, but that’s probably the only reason you say so.  However, I might be proven wrong.  And to anyone bitching about the high price, well, it cost tons of money to print a fine edition in such a low quantity, and I am certainly not into charity.”

Following yesterday’s exclusive release through the internet press of their new video for the track “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” from the band’s seventh full length album “VII / Född Förlorare”, SHINING have today released the video on their own YouTube channel, and have revealed the real history behind the storyline.  The video can be seen below or at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iULz19Cc7yw

Contrary to how the video has been interpreted by both some press and fans alike, who have mistaken it for a simple glossy music video, there is, in fact, a symbolism behind it, one which both SHINING frontman Niklas Kvarforth, and guest vocalist Håkan “Nordman” Hemlin, are all too familiar with.   Taking as its theme a wedding between a dominant and corrupting groom, portrayed by Kvarforth, and a desirable and deceptively innocent bride, portrayed by Swedish model December Wiklund, the video uses their marriage to symbolise the insidious effects of substance abuse.   By the end of the video, the roles have been reversed, with the bride having complete control over the groom, in the same way that substance abuse becomes a marriage between the drug and the user, subtly taking over and destroying the addict’s life, and leaving him unable to give up the very thing that is destroying him.

The “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” video is more than a trite music video replete with the mandatory titillation of sex and blood.  It is Kvarforth’s vision of a life-consuming obsession depicted through imagery, as opposed to simply music and lyrics.  Both Kvarforth and Hemlin, who appears in live footage throughout the video, have experienced the effects of substance abuse in the past. They have survived the obsession that has destroyed others and come through to the other side with more control of their lives, but their performance both live and on the album itself clearly shows that re-living that past brought a sense of anguish to their interpretation.

Live footage was filmed during the band’s appearance at the Club Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland, in October of last year.  The concept itself was created by Kvarforth, working  together with director Martin Strandberg, who was behind SHINING’s first video “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel” and with photographer Martin Eriksson of Hill Fifty and producer Jussi Hyttinen of FLC 415, to bring to life the blood infused, disturbing vision of addiction and obsession that anyone who has been there will recognise.

Sweden’s SHINING have today announced that their new album will be called “Redefining Darkness”.  Unlike all previous SHINING albums “Redefining Darkness”, which will be the band’s eighth full-length release, will not preface its title with a number.  According to founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth “The use of numbers to describe our albums is no longer something that SHINING is interested in doing. The new album is without a doubt the darkest thing I have ever done or heard. People will be upset for sure – and hopefully its divine genius will destroy the lives of thousands”. “Redefining Darkness” is set for release on Spinefarm Records International later this year.

Fourteen years after it was first released, the original debut single from Sweden’s SHINING has been made available as a limited edition 7” picture disc by Temple of Darkness Records.  “Submit to Self-Destruction” was originally recorded at the Necromorbius Studios and released on Selbstmord Services in 1998, and proved to be a taste of things to come from Niklas Kvarforth and SHINING.   The picture disc, which features both the original tracks, “Endless Solitude” and “Submit to Self-Destruction”, is limited to 1,000 copies and the artwork is by WATAIN’s Erik Danielsson.  More information about “Submit to Self-Destruction” can  found at http://www.shininglegions.com/

According to a recent statement by SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth “Lots of Girls Gonna Get Hurt”, which is due for release on Spinefarm Records on the 16^th May, is definitely not a change of direction for the band. It was recorded at the same time as the band’s as yet untitled eighth album, and represents some of the artists and music that SHINING’s members like and listen to.  The fact that some SHINING followers will be ill at ease with the material is, according to the band, irrelevant.

Sweden’s SHINING is set to release an EP of cover songs with a choice of material that will come as a surprise to many of the band’s fans.  The four-track EP, titled “Lots of Girls Gonna Get Hurt”, includes tracks from KATATONIA, KENT, IMPERIET and POETS OF THE FALL, and is due for release on Spinefarm Records on the 16^th of May.  Whilst KATATONIA is an internationally recognised name, KENT and Thåström’s IMPERIET are relatively unknown outside of Sweden, where they are two of the country’s biggest names, and POETS OF THE FALL is a Finnish band with a substantial following in their own country.  Cover art is by Pauline Greefhorst.

Commenting on the decision to release an EP of covers, as well as on the choice of material, SHINING’s front man and founder Niklas Kvarforth had this to say: “In no way should this EP be seen as a new direction for SHINING, and it is absolutely no indication of what you can expect from our upcoming eighth album.  Like most musicians neither myself, nor the rest of the band, restrict ourselves to listening to only one genre of music.  We all have eclectic tastes, and finding ourselves with some spare time in the studio, we recorded a total of six covers, and decided to release four of them. This EP simply represents some of the artists and music that we like.  We know that those fans of SHINING who limit themselves to a narrow musical spectrum will hate the album, but that really is of no concern to us”.

Sweden’s SHINING the, extreme metal band founded by controversial front man Niklas Kvarforth, has today entered the Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden, with producer Andy La Rocque to begin recording the bands eighth full-length album, which, as is usual with SHINING, currently only bears the working title VIII.

NIKLAS KVARFORTH, founder and frontman of Swedish Extreme Metallers SHINING, has announced details of the upcoming release of a solo project that will chart fifteen years of his often controversial musical career.  “Fifteen Years of Absolute Darkness”, scheduled for release on Spinefarm Records on the 7^th December this year, will feature 15 tracks from various bands on which Kvarforth has guested on vocals.  Included are tracks from bands such as GRAVDAL, BETHLEHEM, THE VISION BLEAK, DEN SAAKALDTE, as well as a previously unreleased alternative version of SHINING’s “Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel”.  The double CD will come with a lavishly illustrated booklet which contains KVARFORTH’s comments on all the tracks.  Track listing for “Fifteen Years of Absolute Darkness” as follows:

With over 96,000 views on YouTube for SHINING’s first ever music video in just over three months of its release , the band have today announced that they will start work on a second video in October of this year.  The video, for the track “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” from SHINING’s seventh full length album “VII / Född Förlorare”, will be filmed both during a live concert and in a studio setting.  Martin Strandberg, who directed the band’s first video, “Förtvivlan Min Arvedel”, will once again be directing, together with SHINING founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth.  Production will be handled by Jussi Hyttinen of FLC415. The live footage will be filmed at a SHINING concert at the Club Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland, on the 5^th October, when the band will end the evening by playing “Tillsammans Är Vi Allt” several times in order for it to be filmed.  Fans wanting to attend the show and the filming will be able to get low-priced tickets at www.tiketti.fi.

Joining SHINING live on stage for the filming will be Nordman (Håkan Hemlin), one of Sweden’s top Pop stars, who originally guested on the track on the album, which was release on Spinefarm records earlier this year.  No information has been revealed yet as to what the studio footage will consist of, but given SHINING’s reputation and the fact that their first video had to be released in both uncensored and censored versions due to the graphic nature of its content, the new footage is expected to be “interesting” as a spokesperson for the band commented.

SHINING’s first single, “Förtvivlan Min Arvedel”, which featured as its B side a never before released cover version of ALICE COOPER’s “Prince of Darkness” recently went Gold in the band’s home country of Sweden, having sold 10,000 copies.

As well as the gig in Helsinki, SHINING is also set to appear at this year’s Firebox Metal Festival at the Seinäjoen Rytmikorjaamo, Seinäjoki (FI) on the 30^th September and at Satan’s Convention at the Headbanger’s Ballroom, Osnabrück (DE) on the 3^rd December.   More information about SHINING can be found at http://www.myspace.com/shininghalmstad
