If you’re going to METALCAMP this year, here is your chance to win an exclusive “Meet, Greet and Get Drunk with TROLLFEST” at METALCAMP 2011! All you have to do is post a comment and picture of yourself either in “drinking action” or TrollfesT theme (or both) on the METALCAMP 2011 Facebook wall at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Metalcamp/24778587010 and the two best entries will be picked by the band themselves and the winners will get to meet them.  Here is what the band has to say about the competition:

“Someone once said that “time is never wasted when you’re wasted all the time”. Whoever it was that said this must have been a very wise man, and we are very interested in testing this theory for ourselves, just to make sure he was right. However, we can’t do it alone, so we would like to ask for a bit of help from some of the Trolls who will be at MetalCamp.

If you think you would like to join TrollfesT in this (not very) scientific study, all you need to do is write a few lines saying why you think it should be you togther with a photo, and the winners will be invited to join us for a few, or maybe even more than a few drinks when we are at MetalCamp.  Just follow the instructions and it could be YOU!“

TROLLFEST

So remember, just post your photo and comment on the METALCAMP wall (not the TROLLFEST wall) at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Metalcamp/24778587010 and may the best Trolls win!

The new TROLLFEST album „En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral“ will be out April 22nd via NoiseArt Records

Two members of legendary Black Metallers CARPATHIAN FOREST have joined forces for the release of NEONGOD’s “Cleareyes”, albeit in a somewhat different role for one of them.  While CARPATHIAN FOREST’s Anders Kobro can be found behind the drum kit of the Norwegian Thrash/Death Metallers, bass player Daniel Vrangsinn is this time carrying out his duty as head of Misantrof ANTIRecords, as his label releases the five-track EP from NEONGOD.   As with all Misantrof releases, “Cleareyes” is available for free download at http://neongod.misantrof.net/

Track listing for “Cleareyes” as follows:
01 Zitadelle
02 Cleareyes
03 Fragment of blood
04 Safe Reports from the Breeding Station
05 Stalingrad

Based in Kristiansand, NEONGOD was formed in 2003 by guitarist Kjell Jacobsen and then –drummer Sven Rothe.  The pair were quickly joined by Tom Aksel Hansen on bass and guitarist Gøran Bomann (CHAIN COLLECTOR, CARPATHIAN FOREST) and a lengthy search for the right vocalist was concluded in late 2003 when Svein Reinton, an old-school thrasher friend of the band, joined as front man.  NEONGOD spent most of the next year producing new material and redefining the band’s sound, which, with the addition of Reinton’s vocals, had become much more extreme.  Two demos were released, “Neongod” in 2005 and “Anarchaos” in 2006 and were followed by the debut album “Disease Inc.”, which included new addition Ivan “Meathook” Gujic who had joined the band on guitars, and Ole Vistnes (ZEROZONIC, TRISTANIA) who played session bass on the album in place of the outgoing Tom Axel.   Two more personnel changes were to take place before the definitive NEONGOD line up was established.  2008 saw the departure of drummer Rothe, whose place was taken by another long-time friend of the band, Anders Kobro (CARPATHIAN FOREST, IN THE WOODS, GREEN CARNATION, CHAIN COLLECTOR) and the final addition was  Morten Jacobsen on bass, whose arrival, according to NEONGOD   added a touch of “insanity and attitude”.

For want of a better definition, NEONGOD is described as playing Thrash/Death Metal , but the band  is quick to point out that they play “hard hitting modern thrash, incorporating groove, tons of aggression and a hint of good old death metal –  in other words we do whatever the hell we want as long as it’s hard and heavy”.  With “Cleareyes” released on Misantrof on the 27th February, and new material already written, the way is now clear for NEONGOD to concentrate on the new full-length album, which the band plan to record in the summer/autumn of 2011.   More information about NEONGOD can be found on the band’s MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/neongodnorway

Below you can see an official promo video for the track “Stalingrad” from the NEONGOD album of the same name.

Self-styled “True Norwegian Balkan Metallers” TROLLFEST, who recently inked a deal with NoiseArt Records, as well as the booking agency Rock the Nation, have today previewed the artwork and track listing for the forthcoming album, “En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral”, which is due for release in April.

Commenting on the concept of the album and the artwork, the band, known for its exuberant live performances and whose members are drawn from bands such as URGEHAL, PANTHEON I, UNTIME, MELCH, SARKOM, HALLUCINATIONS and POWERSWORD, had this to say:

“Just like our second album “Brakebein”, “En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral” is also a concept album, which this time centres on the story of five Trolls who set out on a quest to find the Holy Grail that will reputedly deliver all the Trolls from a horrible famine.  Exactly how it will do this is not by some heaven sent miracle, but by providing an endless food source in the shape of the hordes of Christians who will come searching for the Holy Grail themselves!  As you can imagine, this rather “unholy” quest is a somewhat beer-fuelled, blood-soaked adventure in typical Troll tradition!  And if you want to know what happens next to the brave questers, there is an epilogue in the form of bonus track on the digi pack edition.

“When it came to actually illustrating the story of our five brave and adventurous Trolls for “En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral”, there was only one choice we could possibly make, and that was Jonas Darnell.  Ever since he created the evil Iron Duck for our “Villanden” album, Jonas has been bringing the characters of the TrollfesT universe to life through his art.  It then falls to Terje Johnsen to design and put together all of Jonas’ wonderful creations into a spectacular package.  Terje has been part of the TrollfesT crew since Brakebein, and his work has earned him the honorary title of ‘Andy WarTroll’”.

Track listing for “En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral”, which roughly translated means ”A Quest For the Holy Grail”, and is a play on the word “quest” in both the accepted sense, and in the sense of the Norwegian word “kvesting” which refers to the crushing of the crusaders, is as follows:

01. Die Verdammte Hungersnot
02. Karve
03. Die Berüchtiges Bande
04. Gjetord
05. Der Sündenbock Gegalte
06. Korstog
07. Undermålere
08. Jevnes med Jorden
09. En gammel Trollsti
10. Epilog (BONUS TRACK Digi Pak)

The track “Die Verdammte Hungersnot” from the new album can be heard on the band’s MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/trollfest

Osmose Productions has released the new album from Black Metallers FROSTMOON ECLIPSE.  “The End Stands Silent” is the band’s fifth album, and is released in both CD and vinyl formats.  Track listing as follows:

1. Heaven Outside, Hell Within
2. I Am The Absence
3. Corridors
4. Under Pale City Lights
5. Unnatural Isolation
6. A Clandestine Freedom Between Shadows
7. The End Of Everything

With four previous full length albums as well as several limited edition releases and appearances on tribute albums to its name, FROSTMOON ECLIPSE is one of the longest serving Black Metal bands on the Italian scene.  Formed in the autumn of 1994, the band has long been known for combining Old School Black Metal with acoustic interludes of haunting beauty, setting it apart from the usual fast and chaotic sound one would expect from the genre and creating an atmosphere all of its own.  FROSTMOON ECLIPSE’s line up includes Claudio Alcara on guitars, Lorenzo Sassi on vocals, Gionata Potenti on drums and Davide Gorrini on bass.

FROSTMOON ECLIPSE is due to play live at Carlito’s Way, Retrobido (IT) on the 10th April.

The 30th January sees the release on Norway’s MisantrofANTIRecords of the debut album from Belgian self-styled Hell Rock’n Rollers PLAAG.  The album, titled “UGH!” was recorded during 2009 and 2010, and was engineered and produced by PLAAG founder and front man Somber, whilst mastering was carried out by CARPATHIAN FOREST bassist Daniel Vrangsinn.  “UGH!”, which is described by Somber as a “a piece of pure, get down and have a good time Black ‘n Roll”,  is available both in CD format,  and, in keeping with Misantrof’s policy, is also available for free download in high quality MP3 with complete artwork at http://plaag.misantrof.net/ whilst the CD is available for purchase directly from the band at http://plaag.bigcartel.com/

Originally formed as a one man project in 2009 by Somber, who performs vocals and plays all the instruments on the album, PLAAG is inspired by early black metal, but with a touch of twisted humour.  A live line up featuring Razend on Drums, Triest & Mist on Guitars and Lava on Bass came together in 2010, and will make its live debut during 2011.

Although “UGH!” is the first full length release from the band, it is not the first time that PLAAG has appeared on Misantrof, having contributed tracks to the label’s tongue in cheek annual “Holy Fucking ANTIChristmas” albums in both 2009 and 2010. Misantrof ANTIRecords is home to bands like EPISODE 13, NIERTY, PROFANE PRAYER, as well as releasing archive material from some of the cult bands and musicians from the Norwegian Black Metal scene.  The label, headed by Daniel Vrangsinn, and which recently celebrated its fourth anniversary, is a 100% non-profit organisation, allowing all its artists to maintain complete control of their material and their earnings.

Below you can see a promo video of the unmastered version of “Silently Beaten to Death” from PLAAG’s “UGH!”

BYFROST photo by Øystein Riise

Norwegian blackened thrashers BYFROST have inked a deal with Germany’s AFM Records, who are set to release the band’s sophomore album before the summer.  “Of Death'”, will be recorded at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in the band’s home town of Bergen, and will be produced by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen and VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ Bjornar Nilsen, who had also produced BYFROST’s debut album.  Mastering will be carried out by Knut Fug Prytz at Magica Mastering.

Formed in 2007 by guitarists HeavyHarms and R.I.P Meister, BYFROST originally started life as a four-piece, before settling as a power-house trio composed of HeavyHarms on guitars and vocals, R.I.P Meister on five-string bass and HELLISH OUTCAST’s Alkolust on drums.   The band’s first album “Black Earth”, which included a guest appearance by ENSLAVED’s Arve Isdal,  was released to much critical acclaim in April 2010, and demonstrated the band’s ability to skillfully merge cold, dark, riffs with a touch of the melodic. BYFROST’s reputation as skilled musicians coupled with a dynamic stage presence was consolidated by a series of live dates that included appearances at the Hole in the Sky and Karmoygeddon Festivals, the launch of Terrorizer Magazine’s Norwegian Grindhouse venture, and, along with ENSLAVED, at a special concert to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Garage, Bergen’s foremost venue.
