Blodarv PR1

Having remained silent on the subject for a year now, Danish Black Metallers BLODARV are ready to announce their new drummer with the arrival of Galheim  (DENIAL OF GOD, AD NOCTUM, EXMORTEM, LIVJATAN) on a full time basis.

Commenting on the new addition to the band, founder and frontman Hugin had this to say:

“Not only do we consider Galheim to be the best Danish drummer that ever walked this earth, but also, and even more importantly, we consider him to be the only real match for BLODARV,  not just from a musical perspective, but also  when it comes to the ideology, visions, and essence of the band.  So much so, in fact, that we actually neither looked anywhere else, nor accepted any applications from anyone to take over the drummer’s vacancy.  Everyone in the band was in agreement that we didn’t just want a great drummer, we wanted one who was hewn from the same rock as BLODARV, and Galheim was that person.

“He has his roots firmly planted in the Danish Black Metal scene of the 90’s and is someone we can connect and sync with, both musically and on a personal level, because he shares and understands the passion and dedication that goes into a life’s work such as BLODARV. Not only do we want to keep the flame burning, we want to add fuel to the fire, elevate the band, and sharpen the knife that is BLODARV “.

Blodarv Drummer PR

Conceived in 1994, and originally formed as a solo project on the Danish island of Bornholm, Hugin decided to develop and expand on the experience he had gained whilst playing in bands such as MISANTHROPIA, SANSÂGER and ARANRÚTH, and in 1999 he launched the first BLODARV demo.

Having turned BLODARV into a fully fledged band in 2002, Hugin has, since then, proved that in order to give a voice to his poetic and lyrical creations, he is totally unafraid to mix classical, industrial and ambient elements to form BLODARV’s distinctive take on Black Metal

With three full length albums, some very tasty limited edition boxed sets, and several EPs and Splits under their belts, Hugin confirms that, energized by the arrival of Galheim,  the band is now dedicating as much time as possible to rehearsing a formidable new stage show  and ensuring that BLODARV’s  raven banner will soon once again flutter proudly on stage.  “We will return stronger, darker, and more powerful than ever before”

With the release of their Limited Edition 7″ vinyl “Flamekeeper” creeping closer, Danish Black Metallers BLODARV have today debuted a video for the track “Moon Gazer” which features on the EP.  The video for “Moongazer” was filmed on Bornholm, the island home of BLODARV frontman and founder Hugin, and was produced at his own HammerArt and Studios,  and can be seen below and on the band’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/M3EVXduaCJ0

“Flamekeeper” itself, which will be available in two different versions on Self Mutilation Services, one of which will be a special Ceremonial Box,  is a release that is very personal to Hugin, who wants it to be a very special thank you to fans, some of whom have been following the band for twenty years, since the release of the “Misanthropia/Misanthropia” back in 1994.  To this end, the frontman has gone to great lengths to hand craft a lot of the contents himself, and has ensured that the label sourced a high quality wooden box that will be a collector’s item for years to come.

Included in the diehard “Flamekeeper Ceremonial Box”  set are the following:

A carved wooden box for storing the EP and all the objects that are included.
The “Flamekeeper”  7″EP in black vinyl with cover
23cm embroidered Back Patch
9 x 9 cm sticker
Photo sheet
Lyric sheet
Necklace crafted by Hugin out of goat bones from the island of Bornholm and hand numbered on the back
A Black candle from the ceremony that was held during the crafting of the necklaces
Black jewellery bag for the necklace
Two-sided print guitar pick with “Flamekeeper” on one side and the BLODARV Logo on the reverse

A teaser video of Hugin carving the necklaces can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/z1cp76HqNcY

Hugin also recently announced that he would not be monetizing the band’s YouTube channel as he did not want to subject fans to irrelevant ads that had nothing to do with either the music, or the fans’ interests, and that did a huge disservice to both.

Danish Black Metallers BLODARV have released a video teaser for their upcoming Limited Edition “Flamekeeper” 7″ vinyl EP, which will be released on Self Mutilation Services in two versions.  The diehard version, which will be strictly limited to 50 copies, comes in a special  Ceremonial Box  whose contents include some unique items handcrafted by founder and frontman Hugin himself during a specially held ceremony on the Island of Bornholm, whilst the regular EP will be limited to 500 copies, and will include a lyric sheet.   The “Flamekeeper” video teaser can be seen below and on the band’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/XuEK_731S10

“Flamekeeper ” was originally slated to be released in the spring of this year, but has now been put back to around July.  “We never specified an exact release date, and we’re glad we didn’t, because it has given Self Mutilation Services time to source the ideal box for the diehard edition”, comments Hugin.  “We really wanted this to be something special given that it’s 20 years  since the “Misanthropia/Misanthropia” demo was first  released back in 1994 and which marked the first step planted on a journey that with time would become what BLODARV has become today. Not to mention that this will be our first BLODARV vinyl release in ten years.  We really wanted to avoid anything flimsy in cardboard and we are excited to say that the label has managed to find a strong wooden box which will be specially engraved and which will be a collectors piece that fans can enjoy for a lifetime, and something that we can be proud to put our name to. “Included in the diehard “Flamekeeper Ceremonial Box” set are the following:

  1. A carved wooden box for storing the EP and all the objects that are included.
  2. The “Flamekeeper”  7″EP in black vinyl with cover
  3. 23cm embroidered Back Patch
  4. 9 x 9 cm sticker
  5. Photo sheet
  6. Lyric sheet
  7. Necklace crafted by Hugin out of goat bones from the island of Bornholm and hand numbered on the back
  8. A Black candle from the ceremony that was held during the crafting of the necklaces
  9. Black jewellery bag for the necklace
  10. Two-sided print guitar pick with “Flamekeeper” on one side and the BLODARV Logo on the reverse

In an age where everything is mass produced by machines, it is unusual to find a band that goes to all the trouble of hand-crafting certain items, but Hugin has his reasons.  “The new tracks on “Flamekeeper” are a salute to the power of the ancient flame – the fire that feeds us and the fire that eats us.  It is about putting demons into art, protecting the old, and once again leading the listener into the dark demon-filled universe of BLODARV. But above all it is about creating great Black Metal and at the same time not just giving the fans music, but also giving them something unique and personal, much in the same way as it used to be in the early years of the Black Metal Underground. We have a strong connection to our fans and followers, that’s why I crafted fifty amulets out of the goat bones during a ceremony instead of one, and why I chose to put one in each of the limited box sets for the most diehard fans”.  A teaser video of Hugin carving the necklaces can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/z1cp76HqNcY

Advance orders for both editions of “Flamekeeper” are currently being taken at http://blodarvshop.bigcartel.com/

As well as “Flamekeeper”, 2014 will all so see BLODARV releasing a new full-length album, the first to feature the band’s new drummer Fjorgynn.  BLODARV’s next live appearance will be at the Open Grave Metal Festival in Aalen, Denmark on the 6th June.   More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial

When Black Metallers BLODARV decided to self-release a DVD-r earlier this year they weren’t too sure what the reaction would be, but they needn’t have worried, “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 1 was eagerly snapped up fans who wanted the chance to see the Danish band without having to worry about slow internet connections and YouTube unavailability in certain parts of the world.  As a result, BLODARV founder and frontman Hugin has decided to go ahead and release Chapter 2, which features eight live performances, six from the band’s Island Ceremony show in Bornholm, and two from their CARPATHIAN FOREST support show in Copenhagen.  “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 2, which is is DVD player and PC compatible, is limited to 666 copies and is available only through BLODARV’s webshop at http://blodarvshop.bigcartel.com/

Track listing for the “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 2 DVD as follows:
ISLAND CEREMONY JUNE 2013 MUSIKHUZET BORNHOLM
1.where the beast dwell (intro)
2.Blood Red Rocks
3.Civitas Diaboli
4.A Snowy Night In November
5.Korset Paa Baalet
6. Beyond Life
SUPPORT-SHOW FOR CARPATHIAN FOREST, APRIL 2013 LOPPEN DK
7. Blood Red Rocks + intro
8.Surrounded By Dust

Speaking from his studio at his island home on Bornholm, Hugin had this to say about Chapter 2:  “We didn’t really have any intention of releasing another video compilation, at least not so quickly after the first, but when we uploaded some of the recent live appearances on YouTube, we were immediately asked if we could make them available to buy.  There is a real demand from fans, the majority of whom will never be able to see their favourite bands performing live, for footage that they can watch without having all the hassles that come with streaming, so we decided to go ahead with Chapter 2.  Sure, I’d like to release a real DVD, which band wouldn’t, but for underground bands that’s just not an option – the cost would be prohibitive for us, and it would have to be passed onto the fans, so DVD-r is really a win-win situation both for bands and fans”.

BLODARV’s lineup on the videos includes HUGIN on vocals, SATINAE MA on female vocals, PESTILENS on lead guitar, HUUL on bass and FJORGYNN on drums. More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial

BLODARV was founded some 14 years ago by frontman Hugin, and today’s  lineup includes HUGIN on vocals, bass, guitars and effects, SATINAE MA on female vocals,  PESTILENS on lead guitar and FJORGYNN on drums.  Greatly inspired by the myths and legends and beautiful, eerie landscapes of the island of Bornholm, on which Hugin has both his home and recording studio, BLODARV’s music is a journey through a world of powerful demons, haunted souls, tragic destinies and chilling dreams. The title of BLODARV’s recently released fourth full-length album is, in fact, “Gâst” which, in the island dialect of Bornholmsk (Burgundian), is  a type of a ghost demon or energy with the ability to possess mortals and inspire them in much the same way as a muse, with visions, stories, smells, sounds, emotions and pictures.  More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial

It’s not easy for “underground” bands to release DVD’s.  Without major labels behind them who have money to invest in their roster, it’s pretty much a dream for the majority of bands, no matter how much demand there is from fans who are weary of trying to watch their favourite bands on YouTube, at the mercy of the vagaries of their internet connections and with poor sound quality.  So Danish Black Metallers BLODARV have taken matters into their own hands, and released a DVD themselves, but in a format that self-financing would permit –  DVD-r.

Titled “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 1, the DVD contains videos for tracks from BLODARV’s albums “Soulcollector”, “Linaria Amlech”, “Civitas Diaboli” and the newly released “Gâst”, as well as a live recording from their show at Club Brutal, in Aarhus Denmark, filmed in December of last year.   The DVD will be available exclusively through the band’s webshop at http://blodarvshop.bigcartel.com/

Videos featured on the “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 1, which is DVD player and PC compatible and is limited to 666 hand-numbered copies, as follows:

1) A Snowy Night In November    (Music Video)

2) I Blaek Og Blod                            (Music Video)

3) Blood red Rocks                          (Live Video)

4) Empty Fucking Life                     (Music Video)

5) Civitas Diaboli                             (Music Video)

6) Heksen Nitiria Amlech               (Musik Video)

7) Those Who Speaks In Minds    (Slide W Live Pics)

8) Langt Vaek Fra Livet                   (Slide W Live Pics)

Commenting on the decision to release a DVD in this format, frontman and founder Hugin said:  The question we were most frequently asked during 2012 was if we ever intended to release all our official videos, which normally reside on YouTube, as a physical DVD.  We wanted to start this year by making a little special “Something” for our loyal fans and with that in mind we gathered together eight of our most popular underground videos, and made the DVD-r “A Doorway Between Worlds” Chapter 1, so that everyone has a chance to enjoy it on their DVD player with CD quality sound, on a proper sized screen and without having to wait for any annoying buffering  or deal with bad internet connection, which affect many of our fans in different parts of the world”.   More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial

Danish Black Metallers BLODSARV have released a video for “A Snowy Night In November”, a track from their newly released album “Gâst”.   The video was filmed during January of this year in the Northland region of Bornholm, the island home of founder and frontman Hugin,  and features appearances from BLODARV members Satinae Ma (clean vocals) and Pestilens (lead guitars), as well as Hugin himself.  “A Snowy Night In November” can be seen on the band’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/9Y9CRabYO8Q and below.

“Gâst”, which is the band’s fourth full-length album, was released on Self Mutilation Services at the end of last year, and, like all of BLODARV’s releases, contains a mix of tracks in both Danish and English. Drawing his inspiration from the myths and legends and rich history of Bornholm, Hugin’s lyrics take the listener on a journey through a world inhabited by powerful demons, haunted souls and tragic destinies.  The title, “Gâst”, is in the Bornholmsk (Burgundian) dialect and refers to a type of a ghost demon or energy which has the ability to possess mortals and inspire in much the same way as a muse.

BLODARV recently expanded its lineup with the addition of Fjorgynn on drums and HUUL on live session bass.  The band is pretty much self-sufficient when it comes to recording both albums and videos as well as producing artwork, with all the work being done at Hugin’s purpose-built Hammer and Art Studios, which also provides a multitude of services for bands wanting to record in the spectacular settings that the island of Bornholm provides.  More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial

As with previous BLODARV releases “Gâst” contains a mix of tracks in both Danish and English, and allows a glimpse into the mind of Hugin through his music and his poetry.  Influenced by the rich history and traditions of Bornholm, an island filled with myths and legends and beautiful, eerily evocative landscapes, Hugin leads the listeners through a world filled with powerful demons, haunted souls, tragic destinies and chilling dreams.  The title itself, in the island dialect of Bornholmsk (Burgundian), refers to a “Gâst” – a type of a ghost demon or energy with the ability to possess mortals and inspire them in much the same way as a muse, with visions, stories, smells, sounds, emotions and pictures.  More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial
