With ALFAHANNE’s first full-length album “Alfapokalyps” set for release in less than a month, DARK ESSENCE RECORDS have today debuted the track “Såld På Mörkret” from the album.  “Alfapokalyps” was mastered by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studio and includes guest appearances from SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth and HELHEIM’s V’gandr, as well as TAAKE’s Hoest, who features on the newly debuted track “Såld På Mörkret” which can be heard above and at http://soundcloud.com/dark-essence-records/alfahanne-s-ld-p-m-rkret

Formed in Sweden in 2010 ALFAHANNE’s lineup includes musicians who have been on the Black Metal Scene since the early ‘90’s in bands such as VINTERLAND and early MAZE OF TORMENT, and who have come together to play what they call ”Alfapocalyptic Rock”. Playing a mixture of Black Metal, Classic Rock and Punk with some Goth influences, ALFAHANNE’s first release was the “Grym” split 7” with Sweden’s SHINING in 2013.

ALFAHANNE’s current lineup includes Pehr Skioldhammer on Vocals and Guitar, Fredrik Sööberg on Guitars, Niklas Åström on Drums and Jimmy Wiberg on Bass, and the band’s next live appearance will be on the 16th of April at the DARK ESSENCE RECORDS Club Night at the Inferno Festival in Oslo.  ALFAHANNE is also set to appear at the Tons of Rock Festival alongside SABATON, SEPULTURA and SOILWORK in June.

TROLLFEST REVEAL FIRST DETAILS AND ARTWORK FOR UPCOMING SIXTH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM AND ANNOUNCE HEADLINING EUROPEAN TOUR

Fresh from celebrating their Tenth Anniversary and with two North American tours in one year under their belts, Norway’s TROLLFEST are starting 2014 by announcing details of what will be their sixth full-length album as well as details of their first headlining European tour.  The thirteen-track album will be titled “Kaptein Kaos” and is expected to appear on NoiseArt Records on the 28th March.    Recorded at the dUb Studio in Oslo and at the “Trollskogen Recording Facilities”, the album has been mixed by Endre Kirkesola.  Once again the striking artwork is by Swedish Cartoonist Jonas Darnell and design by Terje Johnsen, both long-time collaborators with the band.   Track list for “Kaptein Kaos” is as follows:

Like previous albums ”Kaptein Kaos” is set in the fantasy world of Trolls created by TROLLFEST.   It tells the story of the Kaptein Kaos, who, according to the band ”is an inventor who creates a time machine and goes on an expedition across time to see some sights, taste some stuff and have some fun in ways that are exclusively available to people with time machines”.   Musically, though, it seems that this time TROLLFEST have slightly changed direction.  “Blasts beats and screaming” says the band “have given way to juicy rock grooves and rich melody lines, and the world music influence, which has been our trademark both in our use of instruments as well as melodies, has expanded to include Tango rhythms, Asian and Scandinavian folk music as well, of course, as the East European influence for which we are known”.

KORPIKLAANI’S  Jonne Järvelä, one of the first people to hear the album, had this to say about it: “Trollfest are even more catchy, more melodic and more twisted than ever with their new ”Kaptein Kaos” album.  I really like its (good way) sick arrangements and instrumentation. Vocals are extremely variable and I never heard anything like this before. My personal highlight on the album is a song called ”Solskinnsmedisin”. Unbelievable album!”

To mark the release of the album TROLLFEST will be embarking on a 16 date headlining tour of Europe in April, which the band have dubbed the “Kaos Over Europe Tour”,  supported by FINSTERFORST and CRYPTIC FOREST.  Routing as follows:

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS has announced details of “Alfapokalyps”, the upcoming album from Swedish rockers ALFAHANNE.  The ten-track album will be the debut full-length release from ALFAHANNE, a name that is relatively new on the scene compared to some of the label’s more venerable artists, yet it is a band that has managed to tempt the likes of TAAKE’s Hoest, SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth, and HELHEIM’s V’gandr to make guest appearances on “Alfapokalyps”.  Set to hit the streets on the 10th of February, “Alfapokalyps” was  mastered by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studio.  Artwork is by Mikael Skoog.  Track listing as follows:

EXTREME PAGAN METALLERS FORTID RELEASE MUSIC VIDEO FOR TITLE TRACK FROM PAGAN PROPHECIES

Extreme Pagan Metallers FORTID are celebrating the start of 2014 with the release of a video for the title track from their 2012 album “Pagan Prophecies”.  The video was filmed and edited by Hannu Mikola of Visual Vortex and includes footage of the band performing live during their 2013 tour of Finland, as well as a series of images that point to the doom of mankind .  Mikola accompanied the band throughout the tour and filmed their performance of the song each night.  “Pagan Prophecies” can be seen below and on FORTID’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/xC_ptz5mAb4

 

FORTID was originally formed by Icelandic musician Einar Thorberg (CURSE, DEN SAAKALDTE) as a solo project in 2002, and the subsequent release of what is known as the Völuspá Trilogy, comprising three full-length albums, “Thor’s Anger”, “The Arrival of Fenris” and “Fall of the Ages”, established FORTID’s reputation and led to Thorberg’s move to Norway between the release of the second and third parts of the trilogy, where he recruited a permanent lineup.  Aside from Thorberg on guitars and vocals, FORTID’s current lineup includes Øystein Hansen (ex THORNBOUND) on guitars, Rikard Jonsson (FORSEFED HORSEHEAD, ex DEJECT) on bass and Daniel Theobald (CURSE, DEN SAAKALDTE, ETHEREAL FOREST) on drums.

Work on the band’s fifth full-length album has just been completed and is ready for the mixing stage, and, whilst not wanting to go into too much detail yet, Thorberg recently revealed that the lyrics for the, as yet unnamed,  album will be in Icelandic.

Commenting on the video Thorberg, who was recently announced as the new frontman for Norwegian Black Metallers DEN SAAKALDTE, said that the best way to explain the concept behind “Pagan Prophecies” would be through the lyrics for the track, which are as follow:

VULTURE INDUSTRIES BEHIND THE SCENES DOCUMENTARY STREAMING. FIRST U.S. APPEARANCE CONFIRMED

The recent collaboration between Norwegian Avant-garde metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES and the HAPPY GORILLA DANCE COMPANY which resulted in the theatrical performance “Turning Golem”, has proved to be a considerable crowd-pleaser, so much so, in fact, that the show has been booking into various venues and festivals both this year and next.  Interest in the show, which is part rooted in the heavier segment of experimental/progressive metal which features VULTURE INDUSTRIES performing music from their latest release “The Tower”, and part theatre performance which features the HAPPY GORILLA DANCE COMPANY, has grown, and as a result journalist Andrea Chirulescu has produced a “behind the scenes” documentary which explores the he ideas and concepts behind “Turning Golem”.

Featuring interviews with VULTURE INDUSTRIES frontman Bjornar E. Nilsen, who explains how the whole idea came about and how it developed, as well as with the other members of the band – guitarists Oyvind Madsen and Eyvind Huse, bassist Kyrre Teigen and drummer Tor Helge Gjengedal, who talk about the difference between performing as a band as opposed to being part of a performance ensemble, whilst members of the HAPPY GORILLA DANCE COMPANY explain their part in the project.  The documentary, which is in English, was filmed in Bergen when “Turning Golem” was recently performed at the Garage, and is currently streaming on the YouTube Channel of the Norwegian webzine Eternal Terror.  It can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/VTSeoKbqBBE

 

2013 has been a busy year for VULTURE INDUSTRIES who released their third full-length album, “The Tower”, their third full-length album on Season of Mist in September.   As well as collaborating with the HAPPY GORILLA DANCE COMPANY, the band also worked closely with Romanian multi-media artist COSTIN CHIOREANU, whose video “Lost Among Liars”, a track from “The Tower”, recently featured at this year’s Kort and Kortkino Film Festival, Sandnes, Norway.  The video can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/Q2mYnayKNd8

 

Next year will also mark the first appearance of VULTURE INDUSTRIES in North America, with the band set to play at the prestigious Music, Film and Interactive Festival, South by Southwest, better known as the SXSW Festival, in Austin, Texas in March.  Other confirmed appearances by VULTURE INDUSTRIES in 2014 include The Headway Festival in Amstelveen, Netherlands, on the 11th January, Prog Power Europe, in Baarlo, Netherlands on the 4th October, and performances of “Turning Golem” at the Boule Noire in Paris, France, on the 21st February and at Metal Days in Tolmin, Slovenia, in July.

DARK METALLERS FOSCOR COMPLETE WORK ON NEW ALBUM AND LAUNCH INTO A NEW ERA FOR THE BAND

When Dark Metallers FOSCOR celebrated the Tenth Anniversary of their debut album in 2012, they were not just marking a decade of music; they were also drawing a line under one era in the band’s history, and preparing to embark on the next and most ambitious one.   With work on FOSCOR’s fourth full-length album now completed, and a complete visual overhaul of their online presence and logo, the groundwork for the new phase in the band’s career is well and truly established.

Formed in 1997 in Barcelona, in the Catalan region of Spain, FOSCOR took the traditional ‘90s Black Metal and mixed it with other classical and modern extreme styles to create a sound that has seen them through the release of 3 full-length albums, a live DVD commemorating their 10th Anniversary, 2 split releases and contributions on Official KATATONIA and ENSLAVED tribute albums, all of which have garnered them respect and a solid, and ever-growing, following.  Now, with their forthcoming album, which will be titled “Those Horrors Wither”, FOSCOR has honed its considerable musical skills and decided to take the first gigantic step away from the confines of Black Metal, towards an expansive multidimensional sound that encompasses shades of Doom and Dark Rock, Ambient interludes and a healthy flirtation with Prog.  It is a step that most clearly defines the band’s personal approach to their work, both musically and aesthetically, to date.

Commenting on the new sound and the new image of FOSCOR, founder and guitarist Falke and frontman Fiar had this to say: “It’s really not that strange that we would be moving in a different direction from the one we started out on because it’s a natural progression that comes from experience.  We’re not saying that our long-time fans will wake up one morning and not recognise FOSCOR any more, not at all, because we have a particular style that is recognisable as FOSCOR – but we’ve taken that style and made it into something better.  You could say that the new FOSCOR is evolution, not revolution, and, that being said, it actually needs new colours to define how we interpret “Darkness”, and IDEOPHONY, who has previously worked with us on design, is the perfect partner to work with us in physically visualising our new direction”.

KARISMA RECORDS RELEASES SOPHOMORE ALBUM FROM PROG ROCKERS FATAL FUSION

November sees the release on Karisma Records of FATAL FUSION’s sophomore album “The Ancient Tale”, a follow up to 2010’s self-produced and privately released, ‘Land of the Sun’, which won the “Best Debut Album of 2010” in Prog Awards.  Formed in Oslo, Norway, in 2008 from members from a variety of rock and blues bands, FATAL FUSION delivers Classic Prog Rock that will please a variety of rock fans, in an album that shows that the band is really on fire.  “Halls of Amenti”, a track from “The Ancient Tale”, can be heard above and at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/fatal-fusion-halls-of-amenti

Hitting the streets on the 18th November, “The Ancient Tale” was produced by the band with some additional help from Karisma Records and ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen.  Track listing as follows:

FATAL FUSIONS’s lineup consists of of Audun Engebretsen (drums), Erlend Engebretsen (keyboards), Knut Erik Grøntvedt (vocals), Lasse Lie (bass) and Stig Selnes (guitars), who utilise classical instruments, synths, mellotron and hammond organ as part of their sound.  The band pays homage to the Rock and Progressive greats from the 70´s such as Genesis, Camel, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Rainbow ,  but by blending elements from different musical genres such as Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, Latin, Space Rock, Classical Music and above all Progressive Rock,  FATAL FUSION creates a distinctive sound and a broad musical landscape.

NIKLAS KVARFORTH’S SHINING ANNOUNCES DATES IN FINLAND

Sweden’s SHINING is set to hit the road again at the start of the New Year to undertake four dates in Finland as an extension to their previously announced Razors Across Europe tour.   The dates are part of the  “Feverdreams”  events to promote the release of the band’s full-length album “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” which came out on Dark Essence Records at the end of September.  Routing for the Finnish dates as follows:

FILM MAKER TO ACCOMPANY SWEDEN’S SHINING ON UPCOMING TOUR. NEW VIDEO TEASER RELEASED

Swedish film maker Martin Strandberg is set to accompany Niklas Kvarforths’ SHINING on their upcoming headlining European tour where he will film more footage and interviews for the documentary he is making about the band.  Work on the documentary, which traces SHINING’s often turbulent history, was begun earlier this year, and is expected to finish in time for a general release towards the end of 2014.  A second video teaser featuring CARPATHIAN FOREST’s Nattefrost and Anders Kobro can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/DQvomP-SSTA

 

Whilst being the subject of the documentary, founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth is keen to emphasize that SHINING itself has no input or influence whatsoever on the content.  “The documentary was entirely the idea of Martin Strandberg, and, other than being interviewed for it ourselves, we have no hand in it at all.  All we know is that family, friends, former band members and who knows who else are contributing, but what they’re contributing we will have to wait to find out along with everyone else”.

The Razors Across Europe tour will hit the road on the 22nd November, and accompanying SHINING, whose latest release “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” appeared on Dark Essence Records in September, will be fellow management roster members CREST OF DARKNESS from Norway, also touring with their latest release “In the Presence of Death”, as well as Sweden’s STERBHAUS.  Routing for the tour as follows:

PAGAN BLACK METALLERS DRAUGR DECIDE TO CALL IT A DAY. FINAL SHOW DETAILS

In the same year that Pagan Black Metallers DRAUGR are celebrating their tenth anniversary, the Italian band, whose music has been a tribute to their Pagan ancestors and the history of the Abruzzo region of Italy, have decided to call it a day.  In a statement issued both in Italian and English, the band explains its decision to disband – a split which, they are keen to emphasize,  is entirely amicable:

“As friends, brothers and the ‘ legio linteata’ we announce our decision today to bring to an end the experience that is Draugr. Having arrived at the threshold of 2014, we decided to bring to a close this chapter in our lives which has been so important to us, in order that we may follow different artistic paths. We thank all those who have taken part in the project over the years, and especially the fans for their support. Our last show will take place on December 22 in Pescara and we will shortly be revealing more details about it”.

“Come amici, fratelli e ‘legio linteata’ annunciamo oggi la nostra decisione di chiudere l’esperienza con Draugr. Arrivati alle soglie del 2014, scegliamo di mettere fine a questo capitolo tanto significativo per noi, per seguire diversi percorsi artistici. Ringraziamo tutti coloro che negli anni hanno preso parte al progetto e, soprattutto, i fan per il loro supporto.  Il  nostro ultimo show, che avrà luogo il 22 dicembre a Pescara e di cui presto sveleremo ulteriori dettagli”.

DRAUGR’s debut album “Nocturnal Pagan Supremacy” was released on Christhunt Productions in 2006.  Keyboards were added to the band in 2007, creating the much more epic feel which DRAUGR describes as “Italic Hordish Metal”.  The sophomore album, “De Ferro Italico”, appeared on To React Records in 2011.  Today’s line up includes Nemesis on Vocals, Triumphator and Mors on Guitars, Ursus Arctos on Keyboards, Stolas on Bass and Jonny on Drums.

DRAUGR’s final performance will take place at the Tipogragfia in Pescara, Italy on the 22nd December.
