DARK ESSENCE RECORDS is set to release an album with different SHINING songs that hark back to an earlier era for the band.  Rather than simply re-issue the original tracks, SHINING has decided not only to re-record the songs, but re-record them using a number of different vocalists.  The album, which will be available in both CD and LP versions will be titled “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” and will appear in September of this year.

Commenting on the idea behind the album, SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth had this to say: “Some of you may remember that five years ago we revealed that we had plans to re-record our debut album and then have six different vocalists doing their own interpretations of the songs instead of merely having them singing on the already set paradigms.  You may also be aware that recently we have been working extremely hard to reclaim our birthright by releasing older bootlegs through our web-shop in an effort to put an end to this fucking bootlegging bullshit that has been infecting our aura for as long as we’ve been around. So we thought that since the new SHINING full-length album is still in the making now would be the right time to combine a bit of both those projects.

“8 ½ – Febedrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” consist of six songs from the “Livets Ändhållplats” and “Angst” era in their original pre-production versions, with newly recorded bass and guitars on top and the malevolent brilliance of Lars Fredrik Fröslie’s keyboard magic, which sadly we didn’t start using until the sixth album.  Six vocalists whom we all find both inspiring and “otherworldly” have blessed the album with their madness, some of them even in their native languages.  At first, my initial thought was that it might turn out a bit too strange. But after hearing some of our classic songs in French, Hungarian and Norwegian I am certain the whole concept will please not only our loyal fan-base but even the contemptuous ones as well”.

Martin Kvam of DARK ESSENCE RECORDS, one of Norway’s leading Extreme Metal labels said: “We’re very pleased to be working with Niklas Kvarforth on this special SHINING release. DARK ESSENCE RECORDS have always aimed to work with both innovation and tradition in the extreme metal genre, and this release is a perfect example of that. “8 ½ – Feberdrömmar I Vaket Tillstånd” looks back, but at the same time, it also brings new life and new elements to these classic songs.”

Having previously released AIRBAG’s first two full-length albums as well as a digital single, Karisma Records have inked a new deal with the Norwegian Prog rockers for a further two albums and are set to release the band’s third full-length album in the autumn of this year.  AIRBAG are currently putting the finishing touches to the new album, and studio updates and photos can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Airbag/21137836128 whilst a short video teaser can be seen at below:

http://youtu.be/21aX1UuuZK0

With a line up includes front man Asle Tostrup on vocals and live guitar, Bjørn Riis on guitars and backing vocals, Jørgen Hagen on keyboards, Henrik Fossum on drums and Anders Hovdan on bass, AIRBAG was formed in Oslo, Norway, in 2005.  Taking elements from classical and progressive rock, chill and jazz, AIRBAG have created their own unique sound.  AIRBAG’s first full-length album “Identity” appeared in 2009 and was hailed as one of the best progressive releases of that year, with the band’s sound being described by Classical Rock Magazine as “Prog at its most chilled, honeyed and soothing”. The 2011 release “All Rights Removed” went on to win even more plaudits, showing a slightly edgier side to the band’s music whilst still keeping their trademark moods and soundscapes.

Pagan Black Metallers DRAUGR, who this year are celebrating their Tenth Anniversary, have debuted their latest video on Blank TV.  The video, which features the track “Legio Linteata” from the band’s second full-length album “De Ferro Italico” was directed by Gianmarco Colalongo and filmed amongst the ruins of the ancient Italic town of Alba Fucens at the foot of Monte Velino in the Abruzzo region of Italy, where the band is based.  The video can be seen below.

Since their formation in 2002, DRAUGR’s music has been rooted in an interest in the rich local history, where the last few brave Pagan warriors could be found fighting to uphold the archaic traditions of the Italic Cults against the ever encroaching teachings of Christianity, which, supported by Rome and Emperor Theodosius’ decree, instigated the persecution of all Pagan cults in 392 AD.  According to DRAUGR’s keyboard player Ursus Arctos:  “Legio Linteata” is a celebration of our ancestors who gave up their lives to try and defend their beliefs and traditions.  It was a struggle they knew would end in an inevitable defeat, which makes their fight all the more poignant and their courage all the more amazing. It is pride in their courage and their sacrifice that lives on in our hearts and in our music”.

DRAUGR’s debut album “Nocturnal Pagan Supremacy” was released on Christhunt Productions in 2006.  Keyboards were added to the band in 2007, creating the much more epic feel which DRAUGR describes as “Italic Hordish Metal”.  The sophomore album “De Ferro Italico”, which was Recorded and mixed by Davide Rosati at the ACME Recording Studio in Italy, and mastered by Mika Jussila at the Finnvox Studios in Finland, appeared on To React Records in 2011.  Today’s line up includes Nemesis on Vocals, Triumphator and Mors on Guitars, Ursus Arctos on Keyboards, Stolas on Bass and Jonny on Drums.  A new album is currently in the making.  More information about DRAUGR can be found on the band’s website at http://www.draugr.it

BLODARV was founded some 14 years ago by frontman Hugin, and today’s  lineup includes HUGIN on vocals, bass, guitars and effects, SATINAE MA on female vocals,  PESTILENS on lead guitar and FJORGYNN on drums.  Greatly inspired by the myths and legends and beautiful, eerie landscapes of the island of Bornholm, on which Hugin has both his home and recording studio, BLODARV’s music is a journey through a world of powerful demons, haunted souls, tragic destinies and chilling dreams. The title of BLODARV’s recently released fourth full-length album is, in fact, “Gâst” which, in the island dialect of Bornholmsk (Burgundian), is  a type of a ghost demon or energy with the ability to possess mortals and inspire them in much the same way as a muse, with visions, stories, smells, sounds, emotions and pictures.  More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial

With a decade on the Italian metal scene under their belts, Pagan Black Metallers DRAUGR have been filming a video for the track “Legio Linteata” from their second full-length album “De Ferro Italico”.    True to its subject matter and the ethos of the band, which harks back to the countrie’s Pagan warrior past, the video was filmed in the ancient ruins of Alba Fucens close to Aquila and was directed by Gianmarco Colalongo. It is anticipated that when ready the video will make its internet debut on Blank TV.   Stills from the video have been uploaded onto DRAUGR’s Facebook page and can be seen at https://www.facebook.com/officialdraugr

Recorded and mixed by Davide Rosati in 2011 at the ACME Recording Studio in Italy, and mastered by Mika Jussila at the Finnvox Studios in Finland, the album “De Ferro Italico” recounts the deeds of a group of warriors whose devotion to the archaic traditions of the Italic cults of their ancestors put them in direct conflict with Rome and Emperor Theodosius’ decree, which, in 392 AD,  led to the persecutions of all Pagan cults and paved the way for the rise of Christianity.  Commenting on the actual filming of the video, Ursus Arctos, DRAUGR’s keyboard player, said: “We especially chose the ruins of Alba Fucens in which to film the video because they have an ancient and solemn atmosphere which we thought was appropriate for a song celebrating the actions of our ancestors who risked all to oppose the forces of Roman imperialism and the Christian religion”.

Formed in 2002 from the remnants of various Black Metal bands, and playing Black Metal in the style of bands such as DARKTHRONE, IMMORTAL and MARDUK, DRAUGR’s interests were always rooted in the Pagan spirit of the Abruzzo region of Italy.  It was an interest they used to develop their musical style over the years, adding keyboards in 2007 to give their sound the more epic feel that was to become what the band itself calls “Italic Hordish Metal”.  DRAUGR’s first full-length album “Nocturnal Pagan Supremacy” appeared on Christhunt Productions in 2006, and was followed by “De Ferro Italico” on To React Records in 2011.  The band is currently working on new material for their third full-length album.

DRAUGR are set to celebrate their 10th Anniversary with a special two hour show at Devilraid 9 in Manoppello Scalo (PE), Italy, on the 8th June.   More information about DRAUGR can be found on the band’s website at http://www.draugr.it

Norwegian Black Metallers CARPATHIAN FOREST announced today that drummer Anders Kobro will be sitting out the band’s upcoming shows due to post-op problems that have occurred following full hip replacement surgery earlier this year.  His recovery has been much slower than expected, and ongoing problems, which may even require further surgery, have had a marked effect on his playing recently.  With a confirmed schedule that includes Hellfest, Party.San, Meh Suff and Brutal Assault, and more to be announced, drummer Jonathan Alejandro Perez will step in, allowing Kobro time to recover and get back on form.

Commenting on the situation, guitarist Tchort said:  “It was pretty obvious to everyone, band and fans alike, that Kobro’s playing since his operation has not been up to his usual high standards. But more worrying was the fact that the heavy schedule of rehearsing, live performances and travelling was actually hindering his recovery.  CARPATHIAN FOREST has had the same lineup for so many years that it’s a bit of a shock to the system to think that he won’t be with us for the time being, but Jonathan is a skilled and experienced drummer and we have no doubts that he is more than up to the job”.

Ironically, the band had to cancel its recent appearance at the Maryland Deathfest, not because of Kobro’s health, but because the embassy didn’t return his passport in time for him to fly out, even though all the visas had been requested at the same time and guitarists Tchort and BloodPervertor and bassist Vrangsinn received theirs in plenty of time.  “There has been much speculation and rumour about why CARPATHIAN FOREST had to pull out of MDF but there really isn’t anything sinister about it at all, just an excess of bureaucratic red tape” said Tchort.  “Kobro’s passport was delayed in the system, and with Nattefrost they requested a lot of additional documentation which is not normally required, and which would have taken months to obtain.   We were, in any event, going to play as a four piece, and we waited for Kobro’s passport until the very last possible moment.  We have since found out that the door is still very much open to granting Nattefrost a visa in the future so we can look forward to finally being able to play in front of our US fans”.

Norwegian Black Metallers ENDEZZMA are set to headline the Erotik Nekrosis Mini Tour at the beginning of June, with dates lined up in Germany and the Netherlands.  Also on the tour will be Germany’s  KRATER and TOTAL HATE.   Dates for the Erotik Nekrosis Mini Tour, named after the band’s latest release, as follows:

6  June – The Raven, Straubing, Germany
7  June – The Jack, Eindhoven ,  Netherlands
8  June – J.C. de Dukdalf,  Schi Wieringerwerf, Netherlands
9  June – Cafe Mukkes, Leeuwarden,  Netherlands

“Erotik Nekrosis”, ENDEZZMA’s first full-length album, and a follow up to 2007’s “Alone” MCD,  was released on Agonia Records in Europe  at the end of last year and hit the streets in the USA in February of this year following a series of delays and the death of guitarist Trondr Nefas, making this the last new release he would ever record.  Very much a showcase of ENDEZZMA’s trademark sound, with its cold atmosphere and eerie seductive compositions, “Erotik Nekrosis” boasts a  lineup on the album that includes musicians from some of Norway’s iconic bands, with founder and frontman Morten Shax on vocals, the late Trondr Nefas (URGEHAL, BEASTCRAFT, VULTURE LORD) and Thomas Myrvold (VULTURE LORD) on guitars, Sregroth (URGEHAL, ÅSMEGIN) on bass,  Jarle Uruz Byberg  (URGEHAL, ex SHINING) on drums and  L.F.Frøislie (WOBBLER, IN LINGUA MORTUA) on synth.

The band’s recently debuted first official video “Junkyard Oblivion”, is dedicated to ENDEZZMA guitarist and URGEHAL frontman Trondr Nefas. The video “Junkyard Oblivion”, which is the opening track from “Erotik Nekrosis”, can be seen below or on the band’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/NZtQ9xPZF5U

CARPATHIAN FOREST frontman Nattefrost is one more in the long line of Scandinavian Black Metal musicians who have been unable to gain entry into the United States due to the labyrinthine and draconian immigration laws that have so often denied US fans the opportunity to see their favourite European bands.  Despite this setback, CARPATHIAN FOREST, whose remaining four members had been granted visas, was still aiming to appear at the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore on the 26th May as scheduled, but as a four-piece, with guitarist BloodPervertor taking on vocals.  Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, the embassy was not able to return drummer Kobro’s passport in time for the band to leave, and CARPATHIAN FOREST has therefore been forced to pull out of the festival completely.  However, three members – guitarists Tchort and BloodPervertor and bassist Vrangsinn will attend and will be available to talk to fans.

It is only under very exceptional circumstances that CARPATHIAN FOREST play without Nattefrost, the only other occasion having been when BloodPervertor stepped in to cover vocals on a handful of dates during the No Mercy Tour in 2004 when Nattefrost broke his collar bone.   Commenting on the original decision to go ahead despite the absence of the band’s iconic frontman and then still being forced to cancel, guitarist Tchort  had this to say: “When we decided to make the trip without Nattefrost, we knew that many  fans would be disappointed, but at the same time we didn’t want to let down the organisers who have been so supportive throughout the whole visa process, and have done everything they could possibly to do to try and make it happen.  We were also very aware that CARPATHIAN FOREST has many fans in the United States who have waited a long, long time to see the band live, and, given the circumstances, there is always the possibility that Nattefrost may never be granted a visa, so this might have been the only opportunity our US fans will have to see us on stage, albeit minus one member.  To then have to pull out completely because of whatever delays occurred even though Kobro’s visa was granted, was a big disappointment for everyone”.

CARPATHIAN FOREST recently returned to the scene after a period of stasis, and will spend most of 2013 playing a series of one-off shows and festivals while they prepare to record the long-awaited follow up to 2006’s “Fuck You All!!!!”  More information about the band can be found on the Official CARPATHIAN FOREST Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/carpathianforest

Ukrainian Black Metallers BALFOR are streaming pre-production versions of two tracks as a demo of what is to come on the band’s sophomore full-length album.  “Heralds of the Fall” and “Wolfbreed” were recorded  in November 2012 at the Blacklight Studio, Ukraine, with long-time BALFOR producer Dmitry “Yrt Glormkhaoth” Shulgin (VERMIS MYSTERIIS) recording the bass guitars, whilst the band’s former guitarist Alexander “Agnarr” Takhmazov (CONQUEST) recorded lead guitars.  Keyboards are by Ivan Popov (AFTERMOON, INFERNO).   It is expected that BALFOR will enter the studio to record the full album in the autumn of this year.   The two tracks can be heard on the band’s SoundCloud page at http://soundcloud.com/balfor

Having recently announced a lineup change that saw all the former members aside from founder and frontman Thorgeir leave the band, BALFOR is set to play its first show with the new lineup of Thorgeir on vocals and guitars, Warider on guitars and backing vocals, Athamas (DEFERUM SACRUM and RAVENTALE) on bass and vocals and Khaoth (KHORS) on drums, on the 23rd June at the Kilkim Zaibu Festival in Lithuania along with bands like DESTRUCTION, TURISAS, EINHERJER and SOLSTAFIR.  BALFOR will play a one hour set which will include old and new songs.
