When MONDVOLLAND’s debut full-length album “d’Olde Roop” was released in 2010, the Dutch band had its feet firmly planted in the Blackened Folk Metal field, both in terms of their sound as well as in a lyrical content that drew on ancient myths and traditions of the Eastern Netherlands. Now, with the release of their new EP “Pestvogel”, MONDVOLLAND has taken a slightly different road. The subject matter still draws on the folklore – two of the three tracks on the EP are inspired by local folk tales, whilst the “Pestvogel”, or “Plague Bird” of the title track is the embodiment of the plague which decimated so much of Europe in centuries past. But with this release the band’s sound is much more oriented towards blending the traditional black metal vocals with clean vocals, giving “Pestvogel” and MONDVOLLAND a unique sound. “Pestvogel” is released on the 28th of January 2012 and is available for free download in MP3 format from the band’s website at http://www.mondvolland.com
MONDVOLLAND was formed in 2005 by Martijn on guitars and vocals and Mickeal (HEIDEVOLK session member) on bass and vocals, with the intention of breathing new life into the Pagan/Folk Metal scene that had become somewhat staid and lacking in originality. In Dutch “Mond vol land” literally means “mouth full of earth” and stems from a local folk story in which giants created the hills and forests of Montferland, the birthplace of the band’s founders, and it was these old legends that originally inspired the duo, and continue to do so. MONDVOLLAND’s current line up includes Harold on guitar and KAMPFAR drummer Ask. Frontman Martijn had this to say about the thinking behind the release of the new EP: “We are now a solid, four piece unit, and we are very satisfied with the direction the band is taking. We still retain our “folk” essence, but I would say that our sound is much “blacker” than it was before. Our decision to release the “Pestvogel” EP as a free download is really based on giving our old fans a chance to get a feel for the new direction, and hopefully gain some new followers along the way”.
MONDVOLLAND is due to play at HEIDEVOLK’s release party on the 25th of February 2012 at Luxor in Arnhem, and more information about the band can be found at http://www.mondvolland.com

SO MUCH FOR NOTHING, the band formed in 2007 by SARKOM front man Erik Unsgaard, has previewed a second track from the forthcoming album “Livsgnist”, which is set for release on the 16th January on MY KINGDOM MUSIC in both CD and LP version. The track, titled “Suffer in Silence”, sees several guest artists joining the band’s two-man line up, with SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth providing additional lyrics and vocals, PANTHEON I’s Live Julianne Kostøl on the cello, TROLLFEST’s Martin Storm-Olsen on acoustic guitar, and Ingvild Sareeta Kaare, formerly of RAM-ZET on violin. “Suffer in Silence” can be heard on the band’s MySpace page at

The 14-track album, which comes in at just over 72 minutes in length and is released on Spacebrain’s own label Rollabigone Records on the 17th December, has all the trademarks of Spacebrain’s perspective as a visual artist. He is insistent that the band is given no genre label, and that the tracks bear no names so that the listeners come to them with no preconceptions and can form their own opinions. SUCHTHAUS itself is formed of the nucleus of Spacebrain and Fruen, with a fluid line up that varies as the fancy takes them, whilst the list of guests on the album is as eclectic as the band itself with, amongst others, SKITLIV and former MAYHEM frontman Maniac, MAYHEM drummer Jan Axel Blomberg , CURRENT 93’s David Tibet, Ingvar Magnusson of SKITLIV, Fredrik A. Juell of BURNING RUBBER and BERSERK BASTARDS, and Sibob Jawara who has sung the world-over but has never used a microphone before recording with SUCHTHAUS. It is certainly worth noting that this will be the first time that Maniac and Blomberg appear together on an album since the vocalist quit MAYHEM several years ago. As to which tracks feature which guests, well, the band prefers it if the listeners reach their own conclusions.

the third release from the Californian one-man project formed in 2006 by M. Rosin, and, according to Rosin himself represents GODHEADSCOPE’s “most complete bridging of modern composition and ambient with art-rock and folk”. The EP will initially be released as a digital download on the 29th November at

former DARK FORTRESS guitarist Walter “Crom” Grosse, the new album will be CROM’s sixth release and a follow up to 2008’s critically acclaimed “Vengeance”. Produced by Grosse himself, and engineered by Victor Bullok at the latter’s At The Crypt Studios, the line up on the album comprises Crom on vocals, guitars, bass and choirs, Seraph (DARK FORTRESS, NONEUCLID, REVAMP) on drums and V. Santura (DARK FORTRESS, TRIPTYKON, ex CELTIC FROST) on additional guitars and choirs. Artwork for the album is once again by the noted artist Kris Verwimp, an old friend and collaborator of Grosse’s. Long-time CROM fans may recognise two tracks on the new album. “My Destiny” first appeared on the now much sought-after 2004 Demo, whilst “The Fallen Beauty” featured on the EP of the same name, but both have been re-recorded for “Of Love and Death”. Track listing on “Of Love and Death” as follows:
both albums was, in fact, recorded at the same time, but the songs on “Vengeance” were chosen to reflect the warrior’s point of view, whilst the ones that I wanted to include on “Of Love and Death” were the ones that we could all relate to on a day to day level. I appreciate that fans see CROM as synonymous with the fantasy warrior aspects, and that “Of Love and Death” might come as a bit of a surprise. Maybe we should look at is as the “calm before the storm” of the next album”.
