Black Metallers BLODARV, who recently made an appearance on the Danish island of Bornholm, which also happens to be the home of founder and frontman Hugin and band members Pestilens and Satinae Ma, have uploaded a fan-filmed video featuring six songs  from show, which took place in June of this year.  Titled “The Island Ceremony”, the video can be seen below or on the BLODARV’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/Mxx4Xpdd8ek

The songs featured on the BLODARV ”Island Ceremony” video are:
1.Where the Beast Dwell (intro)
2.Blood Red Rocks
3.Civitas Diaboli
4.A Snowy Night In November
5.Korset Paa Baalet
6. Beyond Life

Having founded the band some 14 years ago and with four full-length albums under his belt, Hugin draws his inspiration for BLODARV’s sound and lyrics from the dramatic and eerie landscapes of his island home, from whence he also mines the rich seam of local myths and legends, weaving them into a tapestry of powerful demons, haunted souls, tragic destinies and chilling dreams.  BLODARV’s lineup today, which can be seen on the video, includes HUGIN on vocals (+ studio bass, guitars and effects), SATINAE MA on female vocals, PESTILENS on lead guitar and FJORGYNN on drums, with HUUL as live session bassist.  More information about BLODARV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blodarvofficial

5: The Dead Won’t Mind
6: A Knife Between Us
7: The Pulse of Bliss

Artwork for “The Tower” was designed by renowned artist Costin Chioreanu, who had this to say: “Working on the cover of the new VULTURE INDUSTRIES was more than an interesting experience. The stars aligned and suddenly I discovered the opportunity to create the kind of imagery I had been dreaming about for years. “The Tower” is a very complex, smart and sadly true story to which I could relate, so this great project ended up with more illustrations than originally intended. The theme was so complex and so well put into words and music that I simply could not resist it. Yes, there is a huge influence coming from the German expressionism, but expanded through my own ways of visual expression and improved with some elements specific to the visual and philosophical analysis of society. There is surrealism, expressionism, contemporary imagery, and even some ancient graphic visual inputs. All in all, “The Tower” is an extremely well done observation of the reality that surrounds us as well as being a beautiful piece of art and I am extremely happy that I had the honour to illustrate it”.

17 August: Dark Bombastic Evening, Alba Iulia, Romania
25 October: Garage, Bergen, Norway
26 October: Phantoms Of Pilsen, Pilsen, Czech Republic

Norway’s TROLLFEST have digitally released their entire back catalogue from the years 2005 to 2009.  This includes three full-length albums – 2005’s “Wilkommen Folk Tell Drekka Fest”, 2006’s “Brakebein” and 2009’s “Villanden”, as well as the “Uraltes Elemente” EP, which was originally released the same year as “Villanden”.    Commenting on the decision to make their back catalogue available digitally, the band said: “We have made a huge number of new fans over the past three or four years, and we get so many requests for the old releases.  Fortunately the digital platform makes it possible for us to release them without having to incur the costs related to producing CD or vinyl copies, so releasing them digitally ourselves makes sense”.  All the releases are available from the usual digital retailers, as well as on Spotify and direct from the band’s Klicktrack store at https://www.facebook.com/trollfestofficial/app_433708673347545.

TROLLFEST can currently be found in Endre Kirkesola’s Dub Studio in Oslo recording their sixth full-length album which will be released on NoiseArt Records, as was its two predecessors “En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral” and “Brumlebassen”.

Black Metallers EPISODE 13 have released a digi single as a foretaste of the direction the band will be taking with their fourth full-length album, which they  will begin recording in the autumn of this year.   The single, titled “Corpus Vile”, is available from the band directly through their Bandcamp page for $1 – or more if the fans are feeling generous, at http://episode13.bandcamp.com/

Formed in 2001 EPISODE 13 is one of only a very small handful of Turkish bands of any genre, let alone Black Metal, that has not only gained acceptance, but also found a large audience, outside of its own country, making regular appearances at festivals such as Norway’s Inferno Festival and London’s Infernal Damnation Fest, as well as tours in Russia, Finland and Denmark.

EPISODE 13’s third full-length album “Death Reclaims the Earth”, with its artwork by the US artists Seraph + Splendor, who used blood to create the eerie image,  was released in 2010 on Misantrof AntiRecords, the Norwegian label founded and headed by CARPATHIAN FOREST bassist Daniel Vrangsinn.  “Death Reclaims the Earth”  has become one of Misantrof’s most downloaded albums, and, like all of Misantrof’s releases, is available for free download, in various formats from http://episode13.misantrof.net/

EUDAIMONY, the band that features current and former members of NAGLFAR, DARK FORTRESS, NACHTREICH and SECRETS OF THE MOON in its lineup, has debuted the title track from the forthcoming album “Futile”, which is set for release on the Cold Dimensions label in the autumn.   The track can be heard on EUDAIMONY’s SoundCloud page at http://soundcloud.com/eudaimony/eudaimony-futile or on the player above.

The band was formed in 2007 by Matthias Jell (ex DARK FORTRESS) and Marcus E. Norman (NAGLFAR, BEWITCHED, HAVAYOTH, ANCIENT WISDOM), and, having written and recorded three songs quite early on, EUDAIMONY has been somewhat tardy in completing and releasing their debut album, due mainly to the commitments of the various members to their other projects, as well as some label issues.  With a new label in place, EUDAIMONY was free to begin recording “Futile” in March 2013.  The album, which includes a guest appearance on vocals by ANTIMATTER’s Mick Moss, was mixed and mastered by Markus Stock (EMPYRIUM, THE VISION BLEAK) at the Klangschmiede Studio E in Germany.  Artwork for “Futile” is by Ben Borucki (SONIC REIGN).

As well as Jell on vocals and Norman on guitars, bass, synthesizer and programming, EUDAIMONY’s line up consists of Jörg Heemann (SECRETS OF THE MOON) on drums and Peter Honsalek (NACHTREICH) on viola and piano.  Given the sick, disturbing and negative subject matter the band has chosen to write about, it is inevitable that EUDAIMONY would be slotted into the Black Metal and Depressive Black Metal genres, a misconception frontman Jell is keen to correct:  “We realise that unfortunately the Black Metal tag is going to follow us around given our respective backgrounds, but EUDAIMONY really sits uneasily in this kind of categorisation.  Our music, our lyrics and our visual concepts deal with emotional hopelessness and the futility of life, rather than the usual subject matters you tend to find in Black Metal and its various sub-genres”.

Einar Thorberg, founder and frontman of Norwegian Extreme Pagan Metallers FORTID has issued an update on the progress of the band’s fifth full-length album.  “The drums have been finalised, and we’re well into the pre-production stage and happy with the way things are progressing.  With this album I didn’t want to make a repeat of 2012’s “Pagan Prophecies”,  or any of our other albums come to that, so there will be more diversity in tempo, and maybe even an occasional flirtation with pop/rock, but not enough to upset our fans.  The lyrical concept of the album deals with the quest for knowledge and a deeper understanding of oneself and the universe through Nordic tradition and the story of Odin.  The lyrics will be in Icelandic, which is my mother tongue and allows me to express myself more personally and deeply than I could in any other language”.

Thorberg formed FORTID in Iceland in 2002, essentially as a solo project, and released the first two parts of the Völuspá Trilogy, the full-length albums “Thor’s Anger” and “The Arrival of Fenris”, before moving to Norway and releasing the third part, “Fall of the Ages”.  By this time FORTID had a permanent line up which today includes Thorberg on guitars and vocals Øystein Hansen (ex THORNBOUND) on guitars, Rikard Jonsson (FORSEFED HORSEHEAD, ex DEJECT) on bass and Daniel Theobald (CURSE, DEN SAAKALDTE, ETHERIAL FOREST, SARKOM) on drums.   More information about FORTID can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/fortid

As well as FORTID, Thorberg has a number of other projects he is involved in, one of them being MIDNATTSVREDE which has largely remained dormant since 1994, but is now active again, and set to release a split album with another of his projects, CURSE.  MIDNATTSVREDE’s contribution will be 4 tracks, one of which will be a cover of VED BUENS ENDE’s “Carrier of Wounds” a song that Thorberg is particularly excited about, having laid the groundwork for it back in 2007.  As he explains:  “Finally the piece is going to come to light, and we’ll be interpreting it in a whole different way.  The track blends perfectly with MIDNATTSVREDE’s own material and if you know VBE you’ll get some kind of idea of what to expect – but only partly!”  CURSE’s contribution will be one very long song which is divided into four separate tracks dealing with a blend of philosophy and science.  It won’t be in the Black ‘n Roll style of CURSE’s last album, but will hark back to the more atmospheric style that the band used on the split with SYKDOM.  More information about CURSE can be found at http://curse.helviti.com/

In July Thorberg will hit the stage at the Eistnaflug Music Festival in Reykjavík , Iceland, with POTENTIAM, the band that he fondly refers to as “the slowest working band there is”.  Despite this, after 16 years POTENTIAM is still going strong, with drums and half the guitars already recorded on what will be the band’s fourth full-length album which will feature eight tracks in the gloom-laden style for which POTENTIAM is known.  More information about POTENTIAM can be found at https://www.facebook.com/potentiam

If FORTID and three other projects were not enough, THORBERG has also finished recording an album with Gudmundur Óli Pálmason from SÓLSTAFIR for UNKOWN CIRCLE, a band he calls his new “experimental pet project”.   No decision has yet been taken as to how to proceed with UNKOWN CIRCLE, but the album is ready and waiting.   More information about UNKNOWN CIRCLE can be found at https://www.facebook.com/UnknownCircle

TROLLFEST, the purveyors of what they have dubbed “True Norwegian Balkan Metal” have begun recording their sixth full-length album, starting with the drum tracks, and the ever increasing army of fans of the band can expect to see a few changes.  As TROLLFEST explained:  “We will record eleven metal tracks and we also have a couple of acoustic songs up our sleeves, but at this stage obviously we are not sure which ones will make it onto the album.  We will, however, be taking a slightly different musical direction with this album.  The sound will undoubtedly be TROLLFEST, but it will vary from our last two releases.   We will also be using a different studio this time.  We have been more than happy with the Strand Studio who did an amazing job on “En Kvest For Den Hellige Gral” and “Brumlebassen” but we just wanted to get a different sound to match our new musical direction so we decided to use Endre Kirkesola’s Dub Studio in Oslo”. The album will be released on NoiseArt Records.  Updates and photos from the recording sessions will be posted both on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/trollfestofficial and on TROLLFEST’s blog at http://trollfest.blogg.no/ .

So far 2013 has already proved to be a busy year for TROLLFEST, a band that never seems to take things at a leisurely pace when it comes to their music, either off-stage or on.  The seven-man lineup, whose  members hail from several  leading Norwegian Black and Extreme Metal bands, can field multi-instrumentalists capapable of playing a variety of instruments, both modern and traditional, from various parts of the world.  So far this year they have appeared at a number of festivals, and taken the band to North America for the first time, when they were part of the lineup on the extensive Paganfest America Tour.   Further scheduled appearances include the Masters of Rock and Wolfszeit Festivals.

2013 had also been the year that sees TROLLFEST celebrate its first decade, something the band has marked with the release of the limited edition 12” picture disc “A Decade of Drekkadence” whose 16 tracks feature new and unreleased material spanning the bands entire career, as well as three covers, including songs from Tom Waits and Britney Spears.  With artwork by long-time TROLLFEST collaborators Swedish Cartoonist Jonas Darnell and designer Terje Johnsen the vinyl also includes an an email address that purchasers can contact to receive an MP3 download.  The album is available exclusively from http://trollfest.bigcartel.com/.    A video for the Spears track “Toxic” was recently released and can be seen below

Having recently signed a new deal with Karisma Records for two more albums, Norwegian Prog Rockers AIRBAG have released a sneak preview from their upcoming album.  Although this is an early mix and not the finished product and will therefore only be streaming temporarily, the track, ‘Redemption’, is a clear indication that Airbag is moving in a slightly edgier direction, with harder hitting compositions and thought-provoking lyrics. ‘Redemption’ can be heard at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/airbag-redemption-early-mix  or on the player above until the end of August.

‘Redemption’ will be the opening track from the band’s new album, “The Greatest Show on Earth”, which is set for release on the 25th of October this year.   Since the release of 2009’s debut album “Identity”, AIRBAG has gained itself a substantial world-wide following. The band’s last album, “All Rights Removed”, which appeared in 2011, was hailed by critics and fans alike and was awarded no less than six “Album of the Year” titles.  AIRBAG has also developed into a solid live act appearing at several major festivals and venues, including supporting MARILLION on their Scandinavian mini-tour and playing at the ‘Night of the Prog’ festival in Loreley, Germany.

AIRBAG’s lineup  includes Asle Tostrup on lead vocals, Bjørn Riis on guitars and vocals, Jørgen Hagen on keyboards, Henrik Fossum on drums and Anders Hovdan on bass.  More information about AIRBAG can be found on the band’s website at www.airbagsound.com

Having begun recording their fourth full-length album in March of this year, and following their recent success at the Primavera Sound Festival, Dark Metallers FOSCOR have issued an update on the progress of the album, as well as a news of other projects that the band’s members are involved in.  Work on the new album, which will be titled “Those Horrors Wither” is progressing well, with almost all the clean vocals now having been recorded, which brings the recording close to being finished.  The band plans to enter the  Nautilus Studios in Barcelona again in late July to begin mixing, and once this is finished, they estimate that the album will be ready to send to the Orgone Studios ( ULVER, GHOST, CATHEDRAL, HEXVESSEL, CODE, AURA NOIR, PRIMORDIAL ) for mastering around August time before beginning a label search.

As previously hinted “Those Horrors Wither” will expand FOSCOR’s sound out of the strict confines of Black Metal, a direction the Barcelona-based band, who celebrated their 10th Anniversary last year, could clearly be seen to be taking since the release of their previous album, 2009’s “Groans to the Guilty”.   Guest performers have been lined up for the album, but it is expected that their contributions will be somewhat out of the ordinary in that they will serve as “interludes” throughout, that is to say they will be used as connecting passages between tracks, rather than performances on specific tracks.

FOSCOR’s members have also been kept busy with other projects over the past few months.  Frontman and bassist Fiar has taken on the role of live session vocalist for Spanish Death Metallers GRAVEYARD and can be seen appearing with the band on various dates throughout the summer and autumn, including the Obscene Extreme Fest in the Czech Republic,  Party.San in Germany and the South Bangers Fest IV in Spain.  More information about GRAVEYARD can be found at https://www.facebook.com/deathmetalgraveyard

Guitarist Falke in the meantime has also been working on other projects.  The first is SOUL ASIDE, a band that he formed in 2010 fusing Metal with Alternative Rock. The band’s debut self-titled album was released in April of this year.  More information about SOUL ASIDE can be found at http://soulaside.bandcamp.com/

Falke, who is responsible for FOSCOR’s own video for the track “I Tornà de les Cendres” as well as the band’s 10th Anniversary DVD, has also directed, edited and co-produced the latest music video for the Nature Driven Black Metal band LUX DIVINA.  The video, for the track “After Great Pain” from LUX DIVINA’s recently released album ” Possessed by Telluric Feelings” can be seen at http://youtu.be/HcdO21-cQhE

Avant-garde metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES are due to hit the road in September for a series of European dates guesting with LEPROUS on the first leg of their European ”Coal” Tour.  Starting in VULTURE INDUSTRIES home country of Norway on the 13th September, the tour routing is as follows:

13/9: John Dee, Oslo, Norway
14/9: Tribute, Sandnes, Norway
15/9: Buddy, Drammen, Norway
16/9: Parkbiografen, Skien, Norway
17/9: Musikken Hus, Gothenburg, Sweden
18/9: Debaser, Stockholm, Sweden
20/9: Nosturi, Helsinki, Finland
21/9: A2/Sputnik, St Petersburg, Russia
22/9: Tapper Club, Tallinn, Estonia

25/9: Progresja, Warsaw, Poland
26/9: Kwadrat, Kracow, Poland
27/9: Alte Zuckerfabrik, Rostock, Germany
28/9: Beta, Copenhagen, Denmark

With a live career spanning 9 years and with almost 100 shows under their belts, VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ live performances are known both for their technical skill and the eccentric and somewhat manic antics of frontman Bjørnar E. Nilsen, whose on-stage weirdness has garnered a multitude of fans for the band over the years.  Commenting on the tour he had this to say: “We are thrilled to have been invited along on this tour. The route covers areas we haven’t toured much in the past, and we are eager to visit our East European fans in Russia and the Baltic for the first time. The more extensive visit to Poland is also a welcome one.  We’re particularly happy to tour alongside Leprous and in general we will have a good amount of playing time on this tour, so we will get to quench the thirst of our fans temporarily.”

VULTURE INDUSTRIES recently signed with Season of Mist for the release of the band’s third full-length album, which, as with the two previous albums, is once again being recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios in Bergen and produced by Nilsen himself who also happens to be one of Norway’s foremost producers.   With ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen handling the mixing, the album is mastered by Jens Bogren at the Fascination Street Studios (OPETH, KATATONIA, DEVIN TOWNSEND, IHSAHN, ENSLAVED).  The new album will be named “The Tower” and is set for release on the 27th September in Europe and the 1st of October in the North America.

Before embarking on the Coal Tour, VULTURE INDUSTRIES will be in Alba Iulia, Romania on the 17th August for a special show at the Dark Bombastic Evening event, where they will share the stage with the Happy Gorilla Dance Company.  More information about VULTURE INDUSTRIES can be found on the band’s website at http://www.vulture-industries.net
