Following on from the completion  of their third full-length album “Electric Temple” Norway’s SUPERLYNX, whose sound is a distinctive combination of  doom, psychedelic and meditative atmospheres suffused with heaviness and droning rock,  found themselves at somewhat of a loose end , falling prey, as did many, to the effects of the Pandemic on the live scene.

This led to SUPERLYNX embarking on the recording of “Solstice”, which was to become a six-track EP that contains both original material and covers, and which will be released in Digital format on Dark Essence Records on the 8th December.  As  the band explains:

After recording our third album “Electric Temple” in the middle of the pandemic there were almost no gigs to play and a lot of free time. We were not ready for a break from music and not quite ready to embark on a new album just yet. So for the love of playing and for the love of music we booked a studio weekend mid winter 2020 and recorded four cover songs.

These songs are musical gems to us and have had an influence on our own musical life in one way or another. We then put them together with two original songs from the “Electric Temple” sessions for which there had been no room on the album

After making three deeply personal and emotionally heavy albums,  some time out of our own heads playing music was a fun and refreshing experience. It was also a boost before starting the writing process for  our fourth album, which is just about to happen.

A teaser video for the “Solstice” EP can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/T3aZuS4TQOE

With the exception of the track “Cosmic Wave”, which was mixed by Marc Urselli, all the songs on “Solstice” have been recorded, mixed, produced and mastered by Ole Teigen at Crowtown Recordings.

The artwork for “Solstice” is by Pia Isaksen, and the tracklisting is as follows:

1.Born Too Late (Saint Vitus cover)
2. Spread Your Love (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club cover)
3. Something in the Way (Nirvana Cover)
4. Nature Boy (Nat King Cole / Eden Ahbez cover)
5. Reorbit
6. Cosmic Wave

Formed in 2013 by drummer Ole Teigen and bassist/vocalist Pia Isaksen, it had always been SUPERLYNX’s intention to remain a duo, but a meeting with guitarist Daniel Bakken, coupled with his performance during rehearsals, changed all that.  It was clear that he belonged in the band and SUPERLYNX became a fully-fledged trio.

Not long to go now before SUPERLYNX’s third full-length album “Electric Temple” hits the streets, and in anticipation if its release, Dark Essence Records have released a new single from the album, along with an accompanying video.

The single in question is the “Laws of Nature”, the seventh track from the ten-track album, and is a song that the band reckons is the perfect example of what happens when the three individuals that make up SUPERLYNX, become one.  As they explain:

Laws of nature is one of the songs on the album where you can really hear our three different expressions becoming one. Pia’s calm, heavy, minimalistic style and Daniel’s dreamy, melodic guitar playing meets Ole’s dynamic drums going from chill beats into a blasting energy at the end.

The track is one of the more hopeful songs on the album. It comes from a place of convincing oneself to remember that after darkness comes a new dawn, and clinging to something as certain as the laws of nature in hope of brighter times, not only in nature but also personally.

“Laws of Nature” can be streamed or downloaded from various platforms at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Superlynx_LawsOfNature

Whilst, the video, by Pia Isaksen, can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/oIxLTDbwk3g

Known for their distinctive, genre-defying sound that combines  doom, psychedelic and meditative atmospheres with heaviness and droning rock, SUPERLYNX’s lineup comprises Pia Isaksen on  Bass and Vocals,  Daniel Bakken on  Guitars and Ole Teigen on Drums, piano, keys and vocals. Their latest album,  “Electric Temple”,  is both a continuation on from  their previous album “New Moon” and a further development of moods not previously explored by the band.  Poignantly, “Electric Temple” also bears a deeply felt  mark left by the tragic death of a close family member.

Recorded and produced by Ole Teigen in his studio Crowtown Recordings, and with album artwork by Pia Isaksen and photos by Julia Naglestad and Carl Eek, track listing for “Electric Temple” is as follows:

1. Rising Flame
2. Electric Temple
3. Apocalypse
4. Moonbather
5. Sonic Sacrament
6. Returning Light
7. Laws of Nature
8. Then you Move
9. Siren Sing

Norway’s SUPERLYNX are very clear about what music means to them when they quote Jimi Hendrix who described his own music thus: “We call our music ‘electric church music’. Because it’s like a religion to us.”  And that, according to the band,  is much like how they feel about theirs:

In music we find so much of what people seek in temples, religions or other spiritual forms – strength to endure trials, peace of mind, ecstasy, safety, hope, community, joy, transcendence etc. In the process of writing our third album this truth only became clearer to us. Music is our temple”.

Now, with their third full-length album, “Electric Temple”,  due out on Dark Essence Records on the 16th April, the band have today released a second track from the album.  Titled “Apocalypse, and with artwork for the single by Pia Isaksen, the track can be downloaded or streamed from a variety of services at:

https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Superlynx_Apocalypse

Accompanying the release of the “Apocalypse” single, SUPERLYNX have also made available a new lyric video which can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/mdmJiwglqcM

Providing fans with an insight into the thoughts that went into “Apocalypse” the band explained:

It is no secret that we feel nature deeply. Apocalypse captures a panic-like state of mind – internally but also of nature and all creatures affected by the fact that the planet is burning. A lasting but culminating panic raised by the enormous and increasingly devastating fires that have been going on, especially during the last years, in the Amazon Forest, in California and Australia. So much wildlife and so many species lost make a very apocalyptic image. We are really affected by it, and one sleepless night of not being able to stop thinking about each individual creature´s fear in the (then) ongoing Australian bush fires the lyrics were written.

There is both a sadness and a stressed feeling to the song. We always try to stay positive and focus on hope and light, but it was hard with this one. With that being said, there are forces working to turn this devastating development around, and we just have to wish that we can.

For SUPERLYNX’s lineup of Pia Isaksen on  Bass and Vocals,  Daniel Bakken on  Guitars and Ole Teigen on Drums, piano, keys and vocals, “Electric Temple” is both a continuation on from  their previous album “New Moon” and a further development of moods that the band has not previously explored Poignantly, “Electric Temple” also bears a deeply felt  mark left by the tragic death of a close family member.

Recorded and produced by Ole Teigen in his studio Crowtown Recordings, and with album artwork by Pia Isaksen and band photo by Carl Eek, “Electric Temple” will be available in CD,  Digital and Vinyl formats, and can be pre-ordered from the following:

Dark Essence Records have announced that the 16th April has been set for the release of “Electric Temple”, the third full-length album from SUPERLYNX, the Norwegian trio known for its distinctive, genre-defying sound that combines  doom, psychedelic and meditative atmospheres with heaviness and droning rock.

As a taste of things to come, the label has today released both a single, and a video, of the title track. The single is available to download or stream on a number of services at:

https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Superlynx_Electric-Temple

Whilst the video, by Joan Pope / Temple ov Saturn, can be seen below and at  https://youtu.be/zphXNF_dUyU

For SUPERLYNX’s lineup of Pia Isaksen on  Bass and Vocals,  Daniel Bakken on  Guitars and Ole Teigen on Drums, piano, keys and vocals, “Electric Temple” is both a continuation on from  their previous album “New Moon” and a further development of moods not previously explored by the band.  Poignantly, “Electric Temple” also bears a deeply felt  mark left by the tragic death of a close family member.

According to the band, the title of the album is a reference to Jimi Hendrix´ way of looking at music. As they explain:

Our music and lyrics are as always very personal to us and refer to what we go through.  Life, music, nature and inspiration is a general focus.  We always want to push ourselves and explore deeper, wider and further and we feel this album shows our effort in that respect.

As Hendrix said “We call our music ‘electric church music’. Because it’s like a religion to us.” And that is much like how we feel about ours. In music we find so much of what people seek in temples, religions or other spiritual forms – strength to endure trials, peace of mind, ecstasy, safety, hope, community, joy, transcendence etc. In the process of writing our third album this truth only become clearer to us. Music is our temple.

As to the actual technical aspects of the album SUPERLYNX  went to describe how fortunate they were that producer Marc Urselli got in touch with the band wanting to work on the album with them:

He happens to be a multiple Grammy Award winning producer who has done sound for Nick Cave, Mike Patton, Lou Reed, Keith Richards, The Black Crowes and countless more.  He also has a project with Lee Ranaldo & Jim Jarmusch, has played in a trio with Stephen O´Malley and has a project with people like Steve von Till, Matt Pike, Lori S, Dave Chandler and more.

But these credits were not what was important to us though.  It was rather the fact that his sound was so in line with what we ourselves hoped to get out of this. Marc ended up mixing the album and we are really happy about how he has enhanced our sound.

The same goes for Fridtjof Lindeman of Strype Audio, who mastered “Electric Temple” as he did for our previous two albums.  He is always a pleasure to work with and does excellent work every time.

Recorded and produced by Ole Teigen in his studio Crowtown Recordings, and with album artwork by Pia Isaksen and band photo by Carl Eek, track listing for “Electric Temple” is as follows:

1. Rising Flame
2. Electric Temple
3. Apocalypse

Superlynx PRc

With the release date of the 15th March approaching, Dark Essence Records have revealed the title track from SUPERLYNX’s upcoming album “New Moon”.

“New Moon”  is described by the band as one of the slower and heavier songs on the album. It is about a new beginning and coming to it through an inner drive that is always there, but which is also connected to the bigger picture, to the cosmos,  and to the force of life, going back billions of years, and who knows how far into the future. There is some heavy existentialism going on here”.

Dark Essence Records have kicked off 2019 with the release of a new single taken from “New Moon, the upcoming full-length album from the Norwegian doom/psych trio SUPERLYNX.

The single, for the track “Indian Summer”, can be streamed or downloaded from the following http://phonofile.link/indian-summer

SUPERLYNX’s Pia Isaksen, who also did the artwork for “Indian Summer”, and for the album itself,  has this to say about the track:

Indian summer is one of the more feel good songs on the album where we focussed on bringing out the positive aspect about surviving hard times. It is a mental gathering of strength and a celebration of finally being able to let go and move on. The title Indian Summer represents something that comes late but which is good. The scream in the last part of the song took all I had, and it really felt like an act of banishing lingering trauma.

Superlynx PRa

Dark Essence Records have set the  15th March 2019 as the release date for “New Moon”, the upcoming full-length album from SUPERLYNX.  But fans of the Norwegian doom/psycho trio will not have to wait that long to hear something new from the band, because today the label has released a single for the opening track from the album.

The single, “Hex” can be streamed and downloaded from http://phonofile.link/superlynx-hex

Superlynx SinglePR

Commenting on “Hex”, SUPERLYNX also give fans an insight into the ethos behind  “New Moon” as a whole:

Like most of the new album, HEX was written in challenging times, with feelings of hopelessness caused by both personal and external circumstances. The song was given a ritualistic expression, representing a deep, primal feeling and a need to alter the dark reality. Through creative force, love and a wish for better times, this feeling is transformed into music and given a positive outlet. In this way, HEX represents the essence of the album. We have all been through dark times and have dealt with a lot of it through music. You can say that making the album has been a sort of alchemical process. The focus has been on getting through the dark and holding on to what is good in this world. And one of the best things is that music has come out of it.

Additionally, The Obelisk is premiering a music video for “Hex” which can be seen at http://theobelisk.net/obelisk/2018/12/06/superlynx-new-moon-hex-video-premiere

“New Moon” will be the second full-length album from SUPERLYNX, which was formed in 2013 by drummer Ole Teigen and bassist/vocalist Pia Isaksen.  A subsequent meeting with guitarist Daniel Bakken, coupled with his performance during rehearsals, changed the duo’s mind about remaining a two-piece  and SUPERLYNX became the trio it is today.

With cover art by Pia Isaksen, “New Moon” was recorded by the band themselves, with a little help from Ole Jørgen Moe, who recorded their debut album.  Mixed  by the band’s long-time sound engineer Amund Tømmerbakke, and mastered by Fridtjof Lindeman at Strype Audio, tracklisting for “New Moon” is as follows:
