Well known for their wide appeal and their entertainingly theatrical, and hugely accessible stage antics, VULTURE INDUSTRIES  recently celebrated their 20 years of existence with a special anniversary show in Bergen,  Norway.  Knowing that only a relative handful of their fans would be able to witness the show first-hand, the band made sure that their many fans world-wide would not miss out on this very special occasion by recording the whole event.

Produced by Jarle Jovda Moe, who also made the “New Lords of Light” video, and featuring a multi camera and multi track production, the show included not only favourites from the band’s previous releases, but also tracks from the upcoming fifth full-length studio album “Ghosts from the Past”. It is, in other words the perfect opportunity for fans old and new to take stock of how far the band  has come over the years and reminisce about the past.

The show, will be streamed in three separate segments, the first being on the 26th May at 20:00 Central European Time, and can be watched on the Band’s YouTube channel  below and at https://youtu.be/t8opjxwtfRU

Parts 2 and 3 of the show will be shown at 20:00 on the 03 June and 10 June respectively.

“Ghosts from the Past” itself will be released on Dark Essence Records on the 16th June, and is easily VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ strongest album to date.  It marks a new direction for the band, one that leans towards the harder side of rock, and draws upon a wide range of influences.  However, the quintessential VULTURE INDUSTRIES sound that makes the band so distinctive is still there for all to hear.

Recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios “Ghosts from the Past” was produced by the band and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street. With album artwork by Kim Holm and artwork for the singles by Costin Chioreanu, track listing is as follows:

  1. New Lords of Light
  2. Saturn Devouring His Young
  3. This Hell is Mine
  4. Deeper
  5. Right Here in the Dark
  6. A Strangers Curse
  7. Tyrants Weep Alone

With VULTURE INDUSTRIES’  fifth full-length album “Ghosts from the Past”  set to hit the streets  on the 16th June, Dark Essence Records have released a new single taken from the album, along with an accompanying video.

According the the band’s Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen,  the single, titled  “This Hell is Mine” , is an older track, written from an entirely different perspective, but relevant in a whole new way today, as he explains:

This track was based on some old lyrics I had written many years ago. Originally written in praise of the simple and austere toiling on the land. Today, though,  “This hell is Mine” can be seen as a tribute to unyielding resistance against invasion and oppression.

“This Hell is Mine” can be streamed or downloaded from a variety of services at

Written at a time when the band was undergoing considerable changes in their personal lives, and coupled with the arrival of the Pandemic,  VULTURE INDUSTRIES admit that they struggled somewhat to find a sense of direction and that, as a consequence, “Ghosts from the Past” took longer to write than expected.

However, the resulting album is, without a doubt, their strongest to date.  While “Ghosts from the Past” has that unique  sound that is so recognisably VULTURE INDUSTRIES, the fact that it leans towards the darker side of hard rock also marks a change of direction for the band.

Mirroring all the chaos of today, “Ghosts from the Past”  is a reflection of the fear of a world spinning out of control, and  the sense of powerlessness that results when the world order begins to fall apart, only to be replaced by autocratic warlords, whose only aim in life is to expand their own power and legacy.

As a  band that can boast that it still retains the same members it had when it started twenty years ago, VULTURE INDUSTRIES lineup of Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen on vocals and keys, Eivind Huse on guitars and vocals, Øyvind Madsen on guitars, Kyrre Teigen on bass and vocals, and Tor Helge Gjengedal  on drums, have drawn on a myriad of influences for “Ghosts from the Past”.  From dust-riddled Spaghetti Westerns accompanied by Ennio Morricone, past the monochrome melancholia of apocalyptic post punk, through deep valleys and steep hills shrouded in progressive darkness, and a Nordic Noir looking to solve the unexplained murder of the truth.  It is, in fact, a piece of their collective soul.

With a wide appeal both on stage and with their studio output, VULTURE INDUSTRIES have carefully honed their stagecraft, earning the band a well-deserved a reputation as a theatrical and hugely entertaining live act, one that is currently firming up its 2023 touring schedule.  Confirmed upcoming dates are as follows:

16 Jun – Vaterland, Oslo (NO)
17 Jun – Good Omens, Trondheim (NO)
28/29 Jul – Artmania Festival, Sibiu (RO)

Inspired by what I consider one of the most disturbing paintings ever made, the track deals with power-hungry old men and their ruthless disregard of life and consequence in their quest for a glorified place in history.

The above description by Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen’s of “Saturn Devouring His Young”,  the newly released track taken from VULTURE INDUSTRIES upcoming album “Ghosts from the Past”,  is certainly  very apropos of the situation in which the world finds itself today, and you can hear it by either streaming or downloading it now from a variety of services at

Written at a time when the band was undergoing considerable changes in their personal lives, coupled with the arrival of the Pandemic, and all the turmoil that went with it, VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ fifth full-length album “Ghosts from the Past”, understandably took longer than normal to write.

Despite struggling to find a sense of direction, the band’s lineup of Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen on vocals and keys, Eivind Huse on guitars and vocals, Øyvind Madsen on guitars, Kyrre Teigen on bass and vocals, and Tor Helge Gjengedal  on drums , have produced an album that is essentially a piece of their collective soul.

It was a struggle well worth undergoing because  the band’s fifth full-length album is their strongest to date, and  marks a new direction for VULTURE INDUSTRIES, one that tends more towards the darker side of hard rock but which still maintains their  unique and unmistakable sound.

“Ghosts from the Past” draws on a kaleidoscope of influences; from dust-riddled Spaghetti Westerns accompanied by Ennio Morricone, past the monochrome melancholia of apocalyptic post punk, through deep valleys and steep hills shrouded in progressive darkness, and a Nordic Noir looking to solve the unexplained murder of the truth.

It mirrors all that was going on around it, and reflects the fear of a world spinning out of control, and the sense of powerlessness in the face of a world order that is falling apart. Only to be replaced by old ideas imposed by autocratic warlords with no goal in mind other than their own power and legacy.

Embracing a sound that was once described by a fan as “This is how Nick Cave would sound like if he made metal”, VULTURE INDUSTRIES has long since established itself as something singular, yet oddly familiar and strangely recognizable.

And, with the release of “Ghosts from the Past”, the band’s fifth full length album imminent,  Dark Essence Records have today debuted a track from the album, along with an accompanying video.

The track, titled “New Lords of Light” can be streamed or downloaded from a variety of services at https://link.darkessencerecords.no/VultureIndustries_NewLordsOfLight

A video for the track, filmed and edited by Jarle Hovda Moe and with stock video from Carnival of Souls, can be seen at https://youtu.be/FB4d8lMEeLg

The band’s  Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen gave us an insight into how the track evolved:

Starting life with the working  title “For Roky”, I felt that this one had a haunting feel reminiscent of Roky Erickson. This was back during the pandemic summer of 2021, and I remember listening to early versions of the track in my car whilst driving up and down the west coast with my kids in the back. Processing the track in this way  probably had a defining influence on the final result, so in the end it turned out upbeat and energetic, yet bound in a sombre atmosphere somehow reminiscent of the 80s.

Given that “Ghosts from the Past” was written at a time when the band was undergoing considerable changes in their personal lives, as well as the changes wrought by the Pandemic, the album inevitably took longer than normal to write. Whilst feeling lost and struggling to find a sense of direction,  the combined process of writing and production proved to be the longest to date for VULTURE INDUSTRIES.

The end result, however,  is VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ strongest album to date, because “Ghosts from the Past” represents what is essentially a piece of their soul.  It succeeds in mirroring all that was going on around it, and reflects the fear of a world spinning out of control, and the sense of powerlessness in the face of a world order that is falling apart. Only to be replaced by old ideas imposed by autocratic warlords with no goal in mind other than their own power and legacy.

Whilst still maintaining their unique sound, “Ghosts from the Past” marks a new direction for VULTURE INDUSTRIES, one which leans towards the darker side of hard rock. Drawing on a wide range of influences; from dust-riddled Spaghetti Westerns accompanied by Ennio Morricone, past the monochrome melancholia of apocalyptic post punk, through deep valleys and steep hills shrouded in progressive darkness, and a Nordic Noir looking to solve the unexplained murder of the truth.

Recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios “Ghosts from the Past” was produced by the band and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street. With album artwork by Kim Holm and artwork for the singles by Costin Chioreanu, track listing is as follows:

  1. New Lords of Light
  2. Saturn Devouring His Young
  3. This Hell is Mine
  4. Deeper
  5. Right Here in the Dark
  6. A Strangers Curse

Dark Essence Records have announced that VULTURE INDUSTRIES will be making a very welcome return back to the label’s roster, and that preparations are under way for the release of the band’s fifth full-length album.

Rising from out of the ashes of the Goth band DEAD ROSE GARDEN in 2003, VULTURE INDUSTRIES established a lineup formed of Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen on vocals and keys, Eivind Huse on guitars and vocals, Øyvind Madsen on guitars, Kyrre Teigen on bass and vocals, and Tor Helge Gjengedal  on drums.  It was a lineup that gelled right from the outset and has remained unchanged for two decades now.

Releasing two critically acclaimed albums, “Dystopia Journals” and “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register”, and touring extensively during their first four years, VULTURE INDUSTRIES perfected their stagecraft and forged a reputation as a theatrical and hugely entertaining live act.

The release of “The Tower” in 2013 and 2017’s “Stranger Times” demonstrated just what a wide appeal VULTURE INDUSTRIES has, both on stage and in the studio.  The fact that the band collaborated with a variety of artists undoubtedly aided in their audience’s growing enthusiasm, but it also showed how many established names, both musical and artistic, wanted to be part of the VULTURE INDUSTRIES experience.

The only other official release since then was 2019’s single “Deeper” in 2019, which became the band’s most streamed song with 1,5 million plays on Spotify, and “Matpakkevise” on Jubaleumsplate, which was a tribute to the Norwegian artist Knudsen og Ludvigsen.

It was then that the world as we knew it changed with the arrival of the pandemic and halted any plans any band may have had for tours and new albums.  Although VULTURE INDUSTRIES did enter a state of creative hibernation, they did, nevertheless, manage to spread some happiness amongst their fans by producing and streaming shows from historic locations around Bergen, one from the town’s last public brothel and the other from a historical cloth factory, along with some Covid-Safe concerts in Norway.

With the world opening up again, VULTURE INDSTRIES played a number of festivals during 2022 which whetted the band’s appetite for creativity, and, with a renewed enthusiasm, they entered the studio and began finalizing the composing and recording of “Ghosts from the Past” which will be released in June of this year – more details will follow.

The following live appearances have so far been confirmed for VULTURE INDUSTRIES this year:

15 Apr – Kvarteret, Bergen: 20 year anniversary (NO)
28 Apr – Ogna Scene, Ogna (NO)
16 Jun – Vaterland, Oslo (NO)
17 Jun – Good Omens, Trondheim (NO)
28/29 Jul – Artmania Festival, Sibiu (RO)

To celebrate the 11th Anniversary of its original release, Dark Essence Records is set to make  “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register”, the sophomore full-length album from Norwegian Progressive Metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES, available in vinyl format for the first time ever.

The vinyl edition of “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” has had a complete makeover because, what was meant to be a simple re-mix, produced a master that sounded worse than the original.  The album has therefore been “re-mixed, un-mixed, re-mastered and un-mastered”, in order to meet the exacting standards that VULTURE INDUSTRIES place on themselves.

Originally recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios by Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen, and mastered by Brian Gardner (ISIS, NIN, David Bowie), “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” includes guest appearances from  Herbrand Larsen (ex-ENSLAVED / ex-AUDREY HORNE) on Hammond organ, Øyvind Rødset (formerly of UGRESS) on saxophone, Audun Berg Selfjord (FUNIN) on cello and Kristin Hunter (ex-Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra) on viola.

The cover art for “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” is designed by Maja Markegård and features Helge Jordal on the cover, making it the second time that the actor appears on a VULTURE INDUSTRIES release.  One of Norway’s most respected character actors, Jordal’s collaboration with VULTURE INDUSTRIES started when he heard “The Dystopia Journals” and agreed to work with the band.  This time he takes on the guise of the Hangman, brandishing a law book and clutching a noose, in an album that takes a satirical look at the theme of crime and punishment from the perspective of both the criminal and the hangman.

Track listing for “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” is as follows:

Side A:
Crooks and sinners
Race for the gallows
The bolted door
Of branded blood

Side B:
I hung my heart on Harrow square
This cursed flesh
Hangman’s hatch
Crowning the cycle

With a career spanning over a decade and with hundreds  of shows under their belts, VULTURE INDUSTRIES  are  well known both for the technical skill of their lineup, which comprises Øyvind Madsen and  Eivind Huse on Guitars, Tor Helge Gjengedal on Drums, Kyrre Teigen on Bass and Bjørnar E. Nilsen on Vocals,  and the eccentric and somewhat manic antics of frontman Nilsen, whose on-stage weirdness has garnered a multitude of fans for the band over the years.

“The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” will released on the 5th March 2021 and will be available in red in black coloured vinyl. It can now be pre-ordered from:

Vulture Industries Live Stream PR1

There are virtually zero good things that have come out of the current pandemic, but one of the positives is that fans the world-over, who would normally only be able to watch their favourite bands on stage via poor-quality fan-filmed footage,  are now getting to watch the bands perform via live streaming, using multiple cameras and high quality sound.

One of the bands who will be communicating with their fans this way is Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES, who have joined up with photographer Jarle Hovda Moe, who is running a series of professionally filmed,  live-streaming concerts, via his Medstraum series,  to film their show.

The show will be filmed at a local Bergen historic location, the Vestindien, which was the town’s last public brothel, and will take place at 22:00 CET on Saturday 20th June,

Fans will be able to watch the event live on Facebook on the VULTURE INDUSTRIES page at https://www.facebook.com/vultureindustries/ , on the band’s website at http://www.vulture-industries.net/ and on YouTube.

Exact streaming links will be available closer to the time, and all information and updates will be published on the Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/268027394402784/

Commenting on the concert, frontman Bjørnar E. Nilsen had this to say:

For no other reasons than the anguishing prospect of being bored to death by the dull reality of covid-19 and a deep philanthropic urge to keep you all amused, we give you VULTURE INDUSTRIES live from the historic location Vestindien. Now a museum, this was once Bergen’s own House of the Rising Sun. For this special evening we will dub it House of the Irregular and we invite you all to join us by the Bergen docks for an hour of musical rarities new and old.

The show is absolutely free for everyone, but Charity is endorsed and appreciated, but, we emphasise, not obligatory via  Vipps: 92266316 or Paypal: paypal.me/VultureIndustries

Special merchandise, designed by the Romanian musician and multi-media artist Costin Chioreanu especially for the event is available to purchase from https://vultureindustries.bigcartel.com

Vulture Industries A Little Bit Better PR

Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES have made it their mission to make things “A Little Bit Better” by sending personalised messages to friends and families of music fans in a format of their choice.  Multi-media artist and musician COSTIN CHIOREANU has designed the artwork for the message.

As the band explains:

We can’t change the situation but we can make it a little bit better!

At this moment most of us live in the shadow of covid-19. Some are sick, some are isolated, some are losing work, some have lost dear ones and some are sitting on huge stockpiles of  pasta and hand sanitiser. Apart from washing our hands, keeping to ourselves and following regulations,

we can’t really fix it. But we can make a small contribution in making someone’s troubled day a little brighter.

In the past people used homing pigeons to carry messages. Now we offer you the use of homing vultures in sending your message. So if you want to send some encouraging words to a friend, or just want to confuse a relative, we can send out a post card, e-mail or Facebook message on your behalf.

Send your instructions to mr.vulture@vulture-industries.net or send us a message on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/vultureindustries. We need to know name of sender, name of recipient, your message and in which way you want it sent. This service will remain completely free until we go bankrupt.

With a career spanning over a decade and with hundreds  shows under their belts, Norwegian Progressive Metallers  VULTURE INDUSTRIES  are  well known both for the technical skill of their lineup, which comprises Øyvind Madsen and  Eivind Huse on Guitars, Tor Helge Gjengedal on Drums, Kyrre Teigen on Bass and Bjørnar E. According to Kevin the song “starts as the loudest scream of despair yet ends with a sigh of hope,” and he explains how not just fellow musicians, but also major companies involved in the metal scene, including Norway’s Dark Essence Records, and the metal community in general, rallied to his call to produce produce “Can’t shut it off”:

My name is Kevin Storm, I am a professional heavy metal musician that tours the globe and last Sunday the news of Australia’s wildfires had me in tears. I couldn’t sleep and wrote the lyrics in 5 minutes, and the day after started recording a charity song during a 10-hour live stream. After this I started inviting fellow musicians to contribute.

The whole thing grew out of hand as the community started to gather around it and in one week we had 16 musicians, some VERY well known in the heavy metal community, who all contributed to a heartbreaking song that is mixed in one of the best recording studios, backed by major companies And so much more is happening in the campaign.

The song ends in a 24 piece-choir and musicians taking part include:

Kevin Storm – Lyrics and Songwriting, Guitars, Keys
Shawter (Dagoba) – vocals
Bjornar Erevik Nilsen (Vulture Industries) – vocals
Daniël de Jongh (Textures) – vocals
Cammie Gilbert (Oceans Of Slumber) – vocals
Louis Soenen (Fields of Troy) – additional vocals
Nils Courbaron (Sirenia) – guitar lead
Chris Gedge (Mocha Metal) – additional guitar
Eligio Tapia  (Crepuscle) – additional guitar
Christina Earlymorn – Dermon (Finsterort) – additional guitar
Veli-Matti Kananen (Kalmah) – keyboards, bass
Frank Schilperoort (Dictated,..) – drums
Carmen Agtsteribbe – additional vocals
Harri Koskela (Lost in Grey) – choir
Anne Lill (Lost in Grey) – choir
Emily Leone (Lost in Grey) – choir

Drums for “Can’t shut it off” were edited by Daniel Medley at Ten South Sounds and was mixed by Bjornar Erevik Nilsen and Mastered by Herbrand Larsen at their Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, Norway.

Vulture Industries Deeper ArtworkPR

Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES are set to release a new single, titled “Deeper”, On Dark Essence Records.   A video for the single, by long-time Romanian artist and long-time collaborator Costin Choireanu, can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/zSz3BIUrjT4

A
“Deeper” tells the story of man’s insatiable greed for more, as symbolised by the miners digging all the way to Hell.  Starting out with a haunting trumpet solo, the track mixes a Spaghetti Western vibe with the rhythmic and melodic drive of a large-scale rock opus. Musically “Deeper» nods in the direction of such diverse acts as Ennio Morricone, Type O Negative, The Beatles and Lee Hazlewood, but at the same time there is also a solid dose of rock and metal, in the signature style of VULTURE INDUSTRIES.

Vulture Industries PR

VULTURE INDUSTRIES frontman, Bjørnar E. Nilsen had this to say about the origins of the song:

It was one of those scorching summer days of 2018. The parched grass had turned the fields the colour of old paper, and the sun, at its zenith, was mercilessly searing our skin. Thirsty, hungry, and with tongues swelling, we had just missed the ferry crossing and could taste our hopes turn to ashes in our mouths. Trying to remain calm, but steadily feeling the building pressure of desperation, as a boiler ready to blow, we waited in line. Then suddenly the one year old in the back seat broke the silence chanting AHUM, AHUM, AHUM, AHUM! Overcome by what felt like divine inspiration but might very well have been sent from the depths of Hell, I started drumming on the dashboard. DUM, DADADUM, DADADUM, DADADUMDADUMDADUM.”

Printed on Limited Edition 7″ green vinyl to coincide with the Strange Rain tour with HELHEIM, MADDER MORTEM and CAELESTIA, which kicks off  on the 25th April, “Deeper” will be out on Digital platforms on the 23rd of April.  Strictly limited to 500 copies, the 7″ also features the a live performance of  “The Benevolent Pawn”  recorded at USF in Bergen.
