“City of the Sun”, the debut full-length album from Norwegian Prog Rockers SEVEN IMPALE is now also available on vinyl courtesy of Karisma Records, who also released the album in CD format earlier this month.   Recorded and produced at the Solslottet and Duper Studio by Iver Sandøy, known for his work with bands such as ENSLAVED and KRAKOW, “City of the Sun” has been earning this young band much critical acclaim.

Track listing for “City Of The Sun” as follows:

1. Oh, My Gravity!
2. Windshears
3. Eschaton Horo
4. Extraction
5. God Left Us for a Black-Dressed Woman

The album itself is clearly rooted in early Classic Progressive Rock, but its five musically complex tracks reflect the variety of musical disciplines and influences the band’s six musicians bring to the mix, giving each track a distinct identity of its own.   Classical orchestra and big band, metal and jazz, rock and electronica all blend together to give SEVEN IMPALE a sound that lifts the band up from the mundane and formulaic that all too often pervades the genre today.

Formed in Bergen, Norway, in 2010,  SEVEN IMPALE’s lineup consists of  Stian Økland on vocals and guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on sax, Tormod Fosso on bass, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitar and Håkon Vinje on keyboards.  More information about SEVEN IMPALE can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/sevenimpale

With a critically acclaimed Digital EP released by the band  last year as a taster of things to come, Karisma Records has set a release date of September 2014 for SEVEN IMPALE’s debut full-length album “City Of The Sun”.  Recorded and produced by Iver Sandøy (ENSLAVED, KRAKOW, etc.) at the Solslottet and Duper Studio,  “City Of The Sun” consists of five musically complex tracks, each distinctly different one from the other, and transcending several genres with their range and variety, but whose roots clearly lie within Classic Progressive Rock.

Formed in Bergen, Norway in 2010, SEVEN IMPALE’s relatively young lineup consists of  Stian Økland on vocals and guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on sax, Tormod Fosso on bass, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitar and Håkon Vinje on keyboards.   What sets the band apart from many of the new arrivals on the scene is the sheer diversity of musical disciplines that the members bring with them.  From classical orchestra to big band, metal to jazz and rock to electronic, SEVEN IMPALE have fused all their experience and influences and created a sound that is uniquely theirs.  Their appearance over the past year at festivals as diverse as the Oslo Jazz Festival and Inferno Festival, and the positive reaction of such different audiences,  is a tribute to how successful their sound is.

Utilising elements normally found in the Metal genre “City Of The Sun” shows just how unafraid SEVEN IMPALE  are to explore much harder soundscapes than one would normally expect from  Progressive Rock, whilst the use of the saxophone, enables the band to showcase jazz elements in their music. There is no doubt at all that SEVEN IMPALE challenge the standard genre boundaries, in much the same way that Norwegian SHINING and JAGA JAZZIST have done before.

Track listing for “City Of The Sun” as follows:

1. Oh, My Gravity!
2. Windshears
3. Eschaton Horo
4. Extraction
5. God Left Us for a Black-Dressed Woman

Norwegian Prog Rockers AIRBAG are set to play three more shows before taking a break from live appearances whilst their vocalist Asle Tostrup embarks on a year-long trip around the world.  The shows will take place on the 24th May at the Progresja Music Zone in Warsaw, the 25th May at the Klubie Studio in Krakow and a newly announced show is set for the 14th June at the John Dee in Oslo, where they will be joined by Karisma Records label-mates FATAL FUSION.  “It’s something that Asle and his girlfriend have been planning for a long time” commented the band, “and finally they are able to do it.  It’s the journey of a lifetime and we will hopefully be receiving updates on his progress throughout their trip”.

It is expected that the band will start performing live again towards summer/autumn 2015, and in the meantime they will begin working on new material for their next album.  According to AIRBAG, even their vacationing vocalist will be participating in the process thanks to modern technology.  The band have also hinted that there will be some interesting news coming up soon, but have given no indication yet as to what this will be about.

AIRBAG’s third full-length album “The Greatest Show on Earth”, was released at the end of last year on Karisma Records, and demonstrates an edgier side of the band, with the inclusion on some heavier passages.  However, AIRBAG’s musical craftsmanship is still very much to the fore with a trademark sound that encompasses massive walls of sound, ambient textures and soulful soundscapes.  The band’s lineup consists of Bjørn Riis (guitars, keyboards, backing vocals, bass, co-producer), Asle Tostrup (vocals, keyboards, programming, producer, graphic design), Henrik Fossum (drums), Jørgen Hagen (programming, keyboards) and Anders Hovdan (bass).

KARISMA RECORDS have debuted a track from “Mannsverk”, the upcoming album from Norwegian Prog Rockers BRIMSTONE (formerly THE BRIMSTONE SOLAR RADIATION BAND).  The eight-track album  is set for release on the 24th of March in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats, and the newly debuted track, “Flapping Lips at Ankle Height”, can be heard above and at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/brimstone-flapping-lips-at

“Mannsverk” will be the fourth full-length album from BRIMSTONE, and one which, according to the band,  promises to be “leaner, meaner, hungrier, and much more proggie” than before. With the original 4-piece lineup of  Rolf Edvardsen on vocals and guitars, Truls “Biff” Eriksen on bass and the  two brothers Thomas and Øyvind Grønner on drums and organ/guitar respectively,  the band has gone to great lengths to completely record the album in their own studio using original vintage equipment in order to get the exact sound they were looking for.

With their use of instruments such as flutes, saxophones, accordions and violins, together with thundering bass lines and relentless jazz grooves, evocative  vocals and choirs, and an arsenal of organs, pianos, mellotrons and synthesizers, BRIMSTONE has succeeded in creating that late 60’s/early 70’s vibe that was epitomised by bands such as KING CRIMSON and PINK FLOYD, and brought it right up to date.   “Mannsverk”  is available for pre-order at http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/

Track listing for “Mannsverk” as follows:

1. A Norwegian Requiem
2. Rubberlegged Man
3. Voodoo
4. Flapping Lips at Ankle Height
5. The Fixed Wheel
6. The Giant Fire
7. Sjø & Land
8. This is the Universe

BRIMSTONE will launch “Mannsverk” with a show at Det Akademiske Kvarter in Bergen on the 28th March.  More information about BRIMSTONE can be found on the band’s website at http://brimstone.no

Five years after the release of their last album “Smorgasbord”, Karisma Records is set to release the fourth full-length album from Prog Rockers BRIMSTONE, who have not only shortened their name from THE BRIMSTONE SOLAR RADIATION BAND, but have also changed their sound to become “leaner, meaner, hungrier, and much more proggie” than before.   The new album, which is titled “Mannsverk”, will hit the streets on the 24th March in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats.  Track listing for “Mannsverk” as follows:

1. A Norwegian Requiem
2. Rubberlegged Man
3. Voodoo
4. Flapping Lips at Ankle Height
5. The Fixed Wheel
6. The Giant Fire
7. Sjø & Land
8. This is the Universe

Formed in Bergen, Norway, in the late ’90’s by guitarist and vocalist Rolf Edvardsen and bassist Truls “Biff” Eriksen who, wanting something different from the pop and metal of their previous bands, turned to psychedelic progressive music as epitomised by bands such as KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD and 13th FLOOR ELEVATORS.  Joined by two brothers Thomas and Øyvind Grønner on drums and organ/guitar, respectively, BRIMSTONE married high quality song writing to high energy live performances  and quickly became much in demand on the underground psychedelic /prog network, both at home and abroad, thanks to their own special brand of “prog-a-delic space rock”. Under their original name of THE BRIMSTONE SOLAR RADIATION BAND, they released the “Going Out” EP in 2002, followed by the full-length albums “Solar Radiation Band” in 2004, the country- tinged “Solstice” in 2005, and their first release on Karisma Records, the multi-instrumental “Smorgasbord”, in 2009.

“Mannsverk” finds the lineup back as the original  4-piece  and recording in their own studio, using original vintage equipment  to enable them to get the exact sound they want.  A sound that includes the use of instruments as varied as flutes, saxophones, accordions and violins, as well as vocal choirs, to create a strong late 60’s/early 70’s vibe.  With many of the songs coming in at between six and twelve minutes, BRIMSTONE have used their considerable musical skill to avoid the trap of boring solos and fruitless jamming – effortlessly fusing Biff’s thundering bass lines with Thomas Grønner’s relentless jazz- grooves, whilst Rolf Edvardsen’s vocals and guitar fit perfectly with  Øyvind Grønner’s arsenal of organs, pianos, mellotrons and synthesizers.

BRIMSTONE will launch “Mannsverk” with a show at Det Akademiske Kvarter in Bergen on the 28th March.  More information about BRIMSTONE can be found on the band’s website at http://brimstone.no

With a release date set for the 10th of March for the third full-length album from Norwegian Prog Rockers D’ACCORD, Dark Essence Records have today previewed the  track “Mr Moonglight” from the album.  Titled simply “D’AccorD III”  the nine-track album was recorded at the Cowshed Studio in London, which has seen the likes of THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH, JAMIE CALLUM, and BOY GEORGE pass through its doors.  Significantly, the fact that the studio is fully analogue means that D’ACCORD have been able to create an authentic  70’s sound, which has been further enhanced by the fact that each individual track was recorded on the first take and then mixed in analogue format at Fluid Mastering (DEEP PURPLE, ELVIS and JETHRO TULL) . The track  “Mr Moonlight” can be heard above and at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/daccord-mr-moonlight

Drawing inspiration from the ’70’s greats such as GENESIS, KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD and  JETHRO TULL, D’ACCORD was formed in Stord, Norway in 2008, and was off to a flying start, with the band’s self-released debut album getting a nomination for best 2009 Debut Album by Prog Awards.  Having  played extensively both at home and abroad, D’ACCORD have, over the years,  taken the best of 70’s Prog Rock and imbued it with their own style, bringing their sound firmly into the 21st Century. Today’s  lineup is comprised of charismatic frontman Daniel Maage (Vocals, Flute & various instruments), Årstein  (Bass), Fredrik Horn (Tangentar)and Stig Are Sund  (Guitar).

“D’AccorD III” differs greatly from the band’s massive conceptual sophomore album “Helike”, which was released on Karisma Records in 2011.  With “D’AccorD III”, the band has chosen to record tracks that are much shorter and more varied.  Alongside D’ACCORD’s signature 70’s Progressive influences and musical complexity is a more Rock ‘n Roll feel and a harder edge to the songs to produce a classic rock album filled with adventurous and progressive sounds.

Full track listing on  “D’AccorD III” is  as follows:

1. These Last Todays
2. Here Lies Greed
3. Lady Faboulus
4. Mr. Moonlight
5. Ibliss In Bliss
6. Song For Jethro
7. Mon – Sat: Part I
8. Mon – Sat: Part II
9. The Doom That Came To Sarnath (bonus track)
