Airbag PR1

Karisma Records is set to release vinyl editions of completely re-mastered versions of AIRBAG’s  entire back catalogue which consists  of  “Identity” (2009),  “All Right Removed” (2011), “The Greatest Show on Earth (2013) and Disconnected (2016).

The series will start with the Norwegian Prog Rockers’  fourth and latest album “Disconnected”, which was originally produced by Asle Tostrup and Bjørn Riis, and has now been meticulously re-mastered for vinyl by White Willow mastermind Jacob Holm-Lupo.

The six-track album takes AIRBAG’s trademark blending of musical styles, combined with lush soundscapes, soaring guitars and soulful vocals, a step further along the band’s musical journey. Lyrically, “Disconnected” is a reflection on the theme of alienation between the individual and society. An exploration of what society expects from the individual, and the resultant failure to live up to those expectations. Each of the six compositions depicts the state of feeling on ‘the outside’ and out of touch with oneself and those around us.

Tracklisting for “Disconnected” is as follows:

  1. Killer
  2.  Broken
  3. Slave
  4. Sleepwalker
  5. Disconnected
  6. Returned

JordsjoCompPR

Having released what the band like to refer to as their first “proper” album earlier this year, Karisma Records are set to release a 2CD compilation of JORDSJØ’s early work, which had previously only had a limited release on cassettes and vinyl.

The band itself hails from Oslo, Norway, and draws its inspiration from old horror movies, German 70’s Synth music, Swedish Prog, fantasy novels and Norwegian nature.   The self-titled compilation “Jordsjø”,  is a collection of all the song, seventeen in all,  drawn from “Jordsjø”, “Jordsjø II” and the split release with BREIDABLIK, “Songs from the Northern Wasteland” cassettes.

As you would expect, the compilation is bursting with nods towards older Prog in general, and Scandinavian Prog in particular.  With its underlying themes of alienation, roots and dreams, “Jordsjø” has an organic and dynamic sound which harks back to  70’s Prog, with traces of electronic music and folk.   The use of of flute, guitars and a vast array of vintage synths results in a warm and vintage sound that still manages to sound fresh and interesting.

Most of the instruments on “Jordsjø”  are played by multi-instrumentalist Håkon Oftung (TUSMØRKE, BLACK MAGIC), with drummers Kristian Frøland, Martin Nordrum Kneppen (WOBBLER, TUSMØRKE) and Tore Flatjord.   With guest artists Håkon Knutzen (guitars) and Vilde Mortensen Storesund (vocals), artwork for “Jordsjø” is by Elling Borgersrud.

Tracklisting is as follows:

CD1:
01. UK Original
02. Hulderheimen
03. Ogion
04. The Goddess (of Light)
05. Bilder fra en Skog
06. Hekseskogen

With TUSMØRKE fans (and their children) eagerly awaiting the November 10th release of “Bydyra” , the band’s fifth full-length album, Karisma Records have debuted a track from the album. Titled  “Trefar” the track can be heard at http://tusm-rke.bandcamp.com/album/bydyra

A
As some will already know, with “Bydyra” the Prog Folk Rockers have come up with something quite different, because this album has not only been written for children, there are also children performing on it.  The title, which means “Urban Wildlife” gives an idea of the subject matter, which details the enchanting adventures of magical creatures that include a crow, a badger and a squirrel.

Tusmorke PR4

According to the band, the debut track is about the Trefar, or Tree Father,  who  “knows all that goes on in the forest. Where his knowledge dries out, the City Animals must seek out the Library to consult the letters printed on his pulped, dried and flattened children.”

Whilst it is true that “Bydyra”  is aimed at children, TUSMØRKE have used their unique take on Prog Rock, seasoned it with humour, and produced an album that will also appeal to adults in its exploration of “grown up” subjects such as urban wildlife, the skyrocketing prices of housing in Oslo, the financial crisis, social issues, global warming, and good and bad magic.

Composed of two original mini musicals that were written specifically for a local children’s school in Oslo “Bydyra”  contains fifteen tracks and includes artwork especially commissioned from the legendary Norwegian artist Thore Hansen. Tracklisting for “Bydyra”  is as follows:

01. Tre som bor i et Tre (Three who live in a Tree)
02. Trefar (Three Father)
03. Mellomspill (Interlude)
04. Rottekongen (The Rat King)
05. På Biblioteket (At the Library)
06. Vi er eid (We are owned)
07. Dyrene i Byen (The Animals in the City)
08. Elvene i Oslo (The Rivers of Oslo)
09. Signekjerringa (The Sibyl)
10. Tenkeren (The Thinker)
11. Trollmannen (The Enchanter)
12. Lær de fattige å trylle (Teach Magic to the Poor)
13. Dyrene bor ute (Animals Live Outside)
14. Underboerne (The Underdwellers)
15. Katabasis

Rusmorke AlbumArt
Featuring members of WOBBLER, JORDSJØ and ALWANZATAR,  TUSMØRKE’s lineup fields an almost dizzying variety of instruments,  and is comprised of  Benediktator on vocals, bass, acoustic guitars, Glockenspiel, jaw harp, assorted percussion and loads of handclaps, Krizla on vocals, flute and electronics, HlewagastiR on drums and percussion, Dauinghorn av Jordsjø  on electric guitar, and The Phenomenon Marxo Solina  on Steinway & Sons grand piano, MiniMoog model D, Solina Strings Ensemble, Mellotron M400, SCI Prophet-5, Arp Axxe, Arp Pro Soloist and Lindholm Spinet.

The folks at Karisma Records have surprised everyone by, almost literally, pulling a rabbit out of their hat with the upcoming release from their new signing, Prog Folk Rockers TUSMØRKE, whose new album is very different indeed in both concept and guest artists.   Titled “Bydyra”, which translated means “Urban Wildlife”,  this  will be the fifth full-length album from the Norwegians.  What is surprising about it is that this is the first album that TUSMØRKE have written specifically for, and performed with, children.

Coming in with a whopping 15 tracks, “Bydyra”  is composed of two original mini musicals that were written specifically for a local children’s school in Oslo.  It is a unique work that explores the relatively “grown up” subjects of urban wildlife, the skyrocketing prices of housing in Oslo, the financial crisis, social issues, global warming, and good and bad magic.

With “Bydyra”,  TUSMØRKE have succeeded in blending their unique take on Prog Rock with a substantial dose of humour to create an album that will be enjoyed equally by both children, who will be enchanted by the characters and their adventures,  and by adults, who will succumb to the psychedelic prog folk overtones.  It is a journey filled with magical creatures that serve to charm and educate at the same time.

Major Parkinson PR

Having snapped up the Norwegian cult prog rockers MAJOR PARKINSON, Karisma Records have announced today that the title track from the upcoming album Blackbox is available as a single. The single will be available on all digital platforms and can be heard below and on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/album/4oyfrz7JZ99cDwymD8MtwD

http://a%20href=

The album Blackbox will be the fourth studio album from the outlandish prog phenomenon that is MAJOR PARKINSON.  Set for release on the 27th of October of this year, and available on Degaton Records in Norway and Karisma Records in the rest of the world, the band spent the better part of two years creating Blackbox. Recorded partly in the legendary Duper Studio, and partly in MAJOR PARKINSON’s own dungeon – Degaton Studio, Blackbox is an uncompromising work, somewhere at the crossroads between progressive rock, cinematic pop, heavy industry and icy Arctic electronics.

With Linn Frøkedal (MISTY COAST, LOW FREQUENCY IN STEREO) contributing her haunting vocals on no less than four tracks, she is joined by a a plethora of guest musicians who have all added their unique talents to further elevate the Blackbox experience.  In the able hands of sound maestro Yngve Leidulv Sætre, Blackbox is an album filled with frenetic horn sections, angelic strings, rusty hammers, paper planes and rocket ships.

According to MAJOR PARKINSON, Blackbox is an unparalleled journey through cinematic, progressive soundscapes and otherworldly melodies which have been forged in stainless dark matter and filled to the brim with musical excess.  It is a treasure chest pulled patiently from the ocean floor, through shoals of curious starfish. It’s a night ride through a snowy and moonlit mountain pass, under the pale flicker of oddly shaped constellations!

With artwork by Martin Kvamme, the album will be available as digipak, black vinyl, gold vinyl and in digital formats. The tracklisting on Blackbox is as follows:

  1. Lover, Lower Me Down!
  2. Night Hitcher
  3. Before the Helmets
  4. Isabel – A Report to an Academy
  5. Scenes from Edison’s Black Maria
  6. Madeleine Crumbles
  7. Baseball
  8. Strawberry Suicide
  9. Blackbox

Bjorn Riis 2017 PR1

Norway’s Karisma Records have today revealed details of the sophomore full-length album from AIRBAG guitarist BJØRN RIIS.  Titled “Forever Comes to an End”, the new album is follow up to 2014’s highly acclaimed, and award-winning,  “Lullabies in a Car Crash”,  and is set for release on the 19th of May.

Written and produced by Riis himself, and engineered and mastered by long-time collaborator Vegard Kleftås Sleipnes, “Forever Comes to an End” features guest appearances from AIRBAG’s Henrik Fossum on drums  and Asle Tostrup on programming,  Simen Valldal Johannessen from OAK on piano, and vocals from the Norwegian singer, SICHELLE MCMEO AKSUM.

A haunting image, shot in Beisfjord, near Narvik in Northern Norway, by the photographer Kjetil Karlsen, forms the highly evocative artwork for “Forever Comes to an End”, and track listing is as follows:

  1. Forever Comes to an End
  2. Absence
  3. The Waves
  4. Getaway
  5. Calm
  6. Winter
  7. Where are You Now

Bjorn Riis Coverart PR

A highly respected guitarist within the Internet guitar community, and with his own blog, followed by thousands of fans each week, Riis’s musical journey started back in his very early teens when bands like KISS and BLACK SABBATH held sway along with the heavily guitar-oriented side of the classic rock era of the ’70’s. The subsequent emergence of Progressive Rock bands such as PINK FLOYD, PORCUPINE TREE, MARILLION AND GENESIS, together with genres like Electronica and Movie Scores, also played a huge role in the formation of the nascent guitarists’ musical direction.

“Forever Comes to an End” pays tribute to all these diverse influences.  From the dark and dirty riffs of Toni Iommi and Zakk Wylde, to the emotional playing of David Gilmour and Steven Rothery. The melodic and sombre voice of Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness and the cinematic landscapes of composers like Thomas Newman and John Barry. And the whole is brought together by Riis very skilled and very individual touch.

“Forever Comes to an End” will be available in CD, 12″ Vinyl and Digital Download formats and a short video teaser for the album can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/FZ1tXevQrl4
