Since the release of SEVEN IMPALE’s 2016 album “Contrapasso”,  a lot of things have happened in the lives of the band’s members. Some of those things, like having kids and finishing your education, are the sort of things that happen to most people.  Others, like Vocalist/Guitarist Stian graduating from the Grieg Academy as an opera singer and launching an international career, and Keyboard  player Håkon joining ENSLAVED, are a little less run of the mill.

But, throughout these eventful seven years, SEVEN IMPALE was kept simmering in the background, and now, the long-awaited third full-length album is ready to make its very welcome appearance.

Titled “SUMMIT”, the album will be released on Karisma Records on the 26th May, but in the meantime, fans can remind themselves of what they have been missing with a track from the album.

Titled “IKAROS”, the track can be downloaded or streamed from a number of services at

https://link.karismarecords.no/SevenImpale_IKAROS

About the track, SEVEN IMPALE had this to say:

“IKAROS” is THE song from “SUMMIT” that will make you check if there is something wrong with your stereo.  It is the “single” of the album. The shortest one… just shy of ten minutes…yes, we know. A radio hit.  All joking aside, this track is us summoning some of our favourite bands; Alice in Chains, The Mars Volta, Enslaved etc. The keyword here is RIFFS.

“SUMMIT” itself features SEVEN IMPALE’S distinctive style which blends jazz and progressive rock with more heavy influences. By limiting itself to four juggernaut tracks, and, coming in at close to 45 minutes, “SUMMIT” doesn’t leave behind the madness of “City of the Sun” and “Contrapasso”, but rather gives the music and lyrics the space and time needed to captivate and dazzle its listeners.

Recorded in Solslottet, Bergen, and produced mixed and mastered by Iver Sandøy, track listing for “SUMMIT” is as follows:

1. HUNTER
2. HYDRA
3. IKAROS
4. SISYPHOS

With artwork by Erik Hølleland, “SUMMIT” will be released in CD, Vinyl and Digital formats, and is now available to pre-order from:

Formed in Bergen, Norway in 2010, the sheer diversity of musical disciplines its members brought with them meant that SEVEN IMPALE immediately stood out from the many other new arrivals on the scene.  From classical orchestra to big band, metal to jazz and rock to electronic, SEVEN IMPALE’s lineup of  Benjamin Mekki Widerøe onSaxophone, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on Guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on Drums, Guitars and Vocals, Håkon Mikkelsen Vinje on Keyboards and Vocals, Stian Økland on Guitars and Vocals, and Tormod Fosso on Bass, have successfully succeeded in fusing all their individual experiences and influences to form a sound that is unmistakably theirs.

Having earned themselves seventh place in the Progarchives.com best albums of the year poll with their  2014 debut full-length “City of the Sun”, SEVEN IMPALE are eager to show fans how far this group of musicians have developed since then, commenting:

“Finally the day (or at least one of the days) we have waited for!  We are very happy to present the track “languor” from “Contrapasso”. We feel that song captures the essence of the album with darker lyrics, heavier guitars, bigger drums, more everything! Still we are sure we are the same band that you heard on “City of the Sun”, but now a couple of years older and more mature. We are very excited and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do!”

The nine-track album was recorded at the Solslottet Studio with producer Iver Sandøy, known for his  work with bands like ENSLAVED and KRAKOW.  Artwork for “Contrapasso” is by the Romanian artist Costin Chioreanu.  Tracklisting is as follows:

SEVEN IMPALE’s lineup of Stian Økland on vocals and guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on sax, Tormod Fosso on bass, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitar and Håkon Vinje on keyboards seamlessly combine their various musical disciplines, from classical orchestra to big band, metal to jazz, and rock to electronic, to give their sound an original approach that eschews genre boundaries.    “Contrapasso” builds on SEVEN IMPALE’s early sound, and demonstrates how much more confident and mature these young musicians have become, whilst the youthful  enthusiasm that permeates all they do, is still very evident.

A release party for “Contrapasso” will take place on the 7th October at Kvarteret in Bergen.

“Contrapasso” is available to pre-order now in both CD and vinyl editions from  http://shop.karismarecords.no/artist/seven-impale  or https://sevenimpale.bandcamp.com As well as from  the Karisma Records US Webstore at https://karismarecords.aisamerch.com/pre-orders

Karima Records have set the 16th September as the release date for “Contrapasso”, the second full-length album from Norwegian Prog Rockers SEVEN IMPALE, and if the band’s debut album, “City of the Sun”,  is anything to go by, it is a date that many fans will be looking forward to.

Having earned itself seventh place in the Progarchives.com best albums of 2014 poll, “City of the Sun”, with the unique SEVEN IMPALE  sound still in the early stages of development, showed the promise of things to come from this young band.  And with “Contrapasso” SEVEN IMPALE are well on the way to fulfilling that early promise, with an album that shows a new maturity, and the confidenceto explore their sound further, imbuing it with more complexity and harder soundscapes, along with tracks that are more catchy and upbeat .  Genre boundaries are not something that concern these musicians, allowing them to create a sound that is interesting and varied, and which is still full of SEVEN IMPALE’s youthful enthusiasm.

SEVEN IMPALE was formed in Bergen, Norway in 2010, and its relatively young members bring with them a considerable diversity of musical disciplines, from classical orchestra to big band, metal to jazz, and rock to electronic.  The lineup of Stian Økland on vocals and guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on sax, Tormod Fosso on bass, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitar and Håkon Vinje on keyboards demonstrates how easily these musicians are able to fuse together all these influences to give the band its fresh, original, approach.

With their 2014 debut album “City of the Sun” earning itself seventh place in the Progarchives.com best albums of the year poll,  fans have been curious to hear what SEVEN IMPALE will bring to the table next.   And today Karisma Records have announced that  “Contrapasso”, the sophomore full-length album from the  young Norwegian Prog Rockers, is set for release in the Autumn.

Whilst details are still being kept under wraps, the label had this to say about what to expect: “As you can imagine with such a young band, SEVEN IMPALE have grown a lot since their debut.  They have continued to explore the unique sound they started to develop on “City of the Sun”, and, as their confidence has grown, they have taken that sound further, becoming more experimental, and adding complexity and harder soundscapes, along with more catchy and upbeat tracks.  Let’s just say that SEVEN IMPALE don’t believe in genre boundaries, and thankfully, they have lost none of their youthful enthusiasm in the process”.

“Contrapasso”, was recorded at the Solslottet Studio, with the band once again calling upon the services of Iver Sandøy, known for his work with bands like ENSLAVED and KRAKOW, to  name but a few.  “This time our producer, Iver Sandøy, has taken an even bigger part in making decisions regarding the arrangements and instrumentation” commented the band, who went on to explain that “The process of recording this album has been quite different from last time. There have been countless edits and changes from the material we brought with us into the studio.  It’s been a long road which  has been worth every step, and the  result makes it all the more clear why, once again, we chose to work with Iver.

“Early on in the process of creating the album, our vision for “Contrapasso” had much more of a thematic concept, and we think this comes through in the form of a more unified (though quite diverse) album. We’re not going to go too much into the meaning of the lyrics, but you could call it a darker counterpart to “City of the Sun”.   Darker not only in concept, but also darker and heavier in sound, but with an even bigger dynamic range. In many ways it’s weirder and more experimental, while still sounding 100% like SEVEN IMPALE.”

Formed in Bergen, Norway in 2010, SEVEN IMPALE’s relatively young lineup consists of  Stian Økland on vocals and guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on sax, Tormod Fosso on bass, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitar and Håkon Vinje on keyboards.   What sets the band apart from many of the new arrivals on the scene is the sheer diversity of musical disciplines that the members bring with them.  From classical orchestra to big band, metal to jazz and rock to electronic, SEVEN IMPALE have fused all their experience and influences and created a sound that is uniquely theirs.

“City of the Sun”, the debut full-length album from Norwegian Prog Rockers SEVEN IMPALE is now also available on vinyl courtesy of Karisma Records, who also released the album in CD format earlier this month.   Recorded and produced at the Solslottet and Duper Studio by Iver Sandøy, known for his work with bands such as ENSLAVED and KRAKOW, “City of the Sun” has been earning this young band much critical acclaim.

Track listing for “City Of The Sun” as follows:

1. Oh, My Gravity!
2. Windshears
3. Eschaton Horo
4. Extraction
5. God Left Us for a Black-Dressed Woman

The album itself is clearly rooted in early Classic Progressive Rock, but its five musically complex tracks reflect the variety of musical disciplines and influences the band’s six musicians bring to the mix, giving each track a distinct identity of its own.   Classical orchestra and big band, metal and jazz, rock and electronica all blend together to give SEVEN IMPALE a sound that lifts the band up from the mundane and formulaic that all too often pervades the genre today.

Formed in Bergen, Norway, in 2010,  SEVEN IMPALE’s lineup consists of  Stian Økland on vocals and guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on sax, Tormod Fosso on bass, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitar and Håkon Vinje on keyboards.  More information about SEVEN IMPALE can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/sevenimpale

Karisma Records has today debuted  “Oh My Gravity!”  the opening track from “City of the Sun”, the debut full-length album from Norwegian Prog Rockers SEVEN IMPALE.  The album itself, which was  recorded and produced at the Solslottet and Duper Studio by Iver Sandøy, who has produced bands such as ENSLAVED, KRAKOW, etc.,   is due for release in September of this year, and “Oh My Gravity!” can be heard abpve and at https://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/seven-impale-oh-my-gravity

With a relatively young lineup SEVEN IMPALE consists of  Stian Økland on vocals and guitars, Fredrik Mekki Widerøe on drums, Benjamin Mekki Widerøe on sax, Tormod Fosso on bass, Erlend Vottvik Olsen on guitar and Håkon Vinje on keyboards, and was formed in Bergen, Norway in 2010.

Whilst the prevailing influence throughout “City Of The Sun” clearly lies within the Classic Progressive Rock genre, SEVEN IMPALE’s music actually transcends several genres fearlessly and with deceptive ease.  The five musically complex tracks that form the album are each distinctly different,  something that only a lineup of musicians from a variety of disciplines as diverse as classical orchestra and big band, metal and jazz, and rock and electronica, could hope to create.

Track listing for “City Of The Sun” as follows:

1. Oh, My Gravity!
2. Windshears
3. Eschaton Horo
4. Extraction
5. God Left Us for a Black-Dressed Woman

With a critically acclaimed Digital EP released by the band  last year as a taster of things to come, Karisma Records has set a release date of September 2014 for SEVEN IMPALE’s debut full-length album “City Of The Sun”.  Recorded and produced by Iver Sandøy (ENSLAVED, KRAKOW, etc.) at the Solslottet and Duper Studio,  “City Of The Sun” consists of five musically complex tracks, each distinctly different one from the other, and transcending several genres with their range and variety, but whose roots clearly lie within Classic Progressive Rock.

Their appearance over the past year at festivals as diverse as the Oslo Jazz Festival and Inferno Festival, and the positive reaction of such different audiences,  is a tribute to how successful their sound is.

Utilising elements normally found in the Metal genre “City Of The Sun” shows just how unafraid SEVEN IMPALE  are to explore much harder soundscapes than one would normally expect from  Progressive Rock, whilst the use of the saxophone, enables the band to showcase jazz elements in their music. There is no doubt at all that SEVEN IMPALE challenge the standard genre boundaries, in much the same way that Norwegian SHINING and JAGA JAZZIST have done before.

Track listing for “City Of The Sun” as follows:

1. Oh, My Gravity!
2. Windshears
3. Eschaton Horo
4. Extraction
5. God Left Us for a Black-Dressed Woman

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS plans to make their annual Inferno Festival event a little different this yea when they join forces with sister label KARISMA RECORDS to showcase two of their bands each at Blå on Wednesday 16th April.  “We are always conscious of the fact that while many of Dark Essence’s artists such as TAAKE tour frequently, and fans in Europe have a good chance of seeing them live, the Karisma artists tend to tour much less, so we thought that this year we would open up the event to give their fans a chance to see some of them, and introduce them to Dark Essence’s fans at the same time”, commented the label’s Martin Kvam.

Representing Dark Essence will be two bands whose recent releases have been getting rave reviews from press and fans alike.  First up will be SLEGEST, the new project from former VREID guitarist Ese, who has skilfully blended classic heavy rock and old-school black metal to produce a sound that is both dark and sinister, and with an unmistakably  down and dirty catchy groove  that weaves its way through the music.  Originally started as a one-man project, once the debut full-length album “Løyndom” was released at the end of 2013,  it quickly became clear that the demand from fans to see SLEGEST perform live was such that Ese was persuaded to form a fully functioning band.  More information about SLEGEST can be found at https://www.facebook.com/slegest

The official video for the track “Ho Som Haustar Aleine” from SLEGEST’s “Løyndom” can be seen below and at http://youtu.be/ti8XokQakEw

Joining them will be Sweden’s ALFAHANNE, whose lineup includes members of bands such as VINTERLAND and early MAZE OF TORMENT, and who have come together to play what they themselves have called ”Alfapocalyptic Rock”, a fascinating and hard-hitting mix of Black Metal, Classic Rock and Punk with some Goth influences .  Their high-energy live performances have garnered them much praise.   Making a guest appearance on stage with ALFAHANNE, will be HELHEIM’s V’gandr who performed vocals on one of the tracks from the band’s new album “Alfapokalyps” .  It is a tribute to ALFAHANNE that they were able to attract not only V’gandr to make a guest appearance on the album, but also Dark Essence label-mates Hoest from TAAKE and Niklas Kvarforth from SHINING.  More information about ALFAHANNE can be found at https://www.facebook.com/alfahanneofficial

The track “Såld På Mörkret” from ALFAHANNE’s album ”Alfapocalyptic Rock” and  which features TAAKE’s Hoest on guest vocals can be heard below and at http://soundcloud.com/dark-essence-records/alfahanne-s-ld-p-m-rkret

Making an appearance for Karisma will be two bands, representing the new and the established.  Lovers of Prog Rock cannot fail to recognise the name of AIRBAG, a band known the world-over for an exquisite musical craftsmanship that enables its musicians to create a sonic experience ranging from massive walls of sound, to ambient textures and soulful soundscapes, both in the studio and on stage.  The release of AIRBAG’s third full-length album “The Greatest Show on Earth” at the end of last year confirmed the band’s status in the world of prog, earning them many accolades.   Inferno will be one of the very few chancesthat to catch this incredible band live this year so it is an opportunity that should not be missed.  One for fans of ANATHEMA. More information about AIRBAG can be found at http://www.airbagsound.com/

The title track from AIRBAG’s album “The Greatest Show on Earth” can be heard below and at:  http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/airbag-the-greatest-show-on

The second of the Karisma bands is one of their latest signings, SEVEN IMPALE.  The release of the digital EP “Beginning/Relieve” last year gave an indication of the multi-faceted nature of these young musicians.  With its member drawn from a range of disciplines including classical orchestra, big band, metal, jazz, rock and electronic music, their sound ranges from progressive and jazzy to the softer and more melodic  to the harder and edgier.  They bring a freshness and enthusiasm to their live performances, and it is anticipated that their debut full-length album later this year  will more than meet expectations, setting them apart from many other new arrivals on the scene.  If you are a fan of Norway’s SHINING, SEVEN IMPALE is definitely a band you will want to check out.  More information about SEVEN IMPALE can be found at https://www.facebook.com/sevenimpale

The title track from SEVEN IMPALE’s  “Beginning/Relieve”  EP can be heard below and at http://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/seven-impale-begining-relieve

Scheduled performances for the Dark Essence Records / Karisma Records artists at Inferno Festival, which will take place at Blå, Brennereiven 9C, Oslo, Norway, on Wednesday 16th April as follows:

Slegest: 21:25
