NEW SINGLE FROM UPCOMING HELHEIM ALBUM REVEALED

On the 29th October, HELHEIM will be back again with “WoduridaR”, the band’s eleventh full-length album, and one that harks back to the very roots that the band laid down almost 30 years ago. Three decades during which HELHEIM have become known as a band that depicts its Norse heritage with an authenticity and integrity that is so often lacking today.

As a taster to an album that is so hotly anticipated, Dark Essence Records have released another single from “WoduridaR”, this time choosing the track “Forrang for fiende”, about which the band had this to say:

The lyrics for ” Forrang for fiende” (Precedence for enemy) are more sinister and are spat out in such a way that perfectly illustrates the feelings of misanthropy towards the human race. The musical approach is straight forward Helheim with a touch of rock n roll attitude. All garnished with grim verses and monumental choruses.

As to the album itself, “WoduridaR” has allowed HELHEIM to explore further the areas the band found most interesting in their previous two releases, making use of the aggression of 2017’s “LandawarijaR” and expanding the atmosphere and melodies, and the use of clean vocals, found on 2019’s “Rignir”.

The name “WoduridaR” itself is an Old Norse word, which can be translated as “The Wild Rider”, and lines can be drawn directly between the album’s title to Odin’s many names and meanings. It is not, however, a concept album, with the tracks being independent from each other, and each one free to tell its own story .

It is, nevertheless, an album that sums of HELHEIM’s legendary career because, running through the whole of “WoduridaR”, fans will recognise elements from all of HELHEIM’s past albums as the band explains:

With “WoduridaR” we have returned to the harshness and the paradigms of “LandawarijaR”, with explosive, mid-paced melodies that have an emotive refrain which summons the northern flames. Helheim never falters, Helheim never surrenders.

Known the world-over for their authenticity and integrity when it comes to portraying their Norse heritage, Norway’s HELHEIM will be back this Autumn with their eleventh full-length album “WoduridaR”, which promises a return to the roots that the band forged almost 30 years ago.

As a follow up to 2017’s “LandawarijaR” and 2019’s “Rignir”, “WoduridaR” fuses the aggression of the former with the focus on the atmosphere and melodies and the use of clean vocals of the latter, something that the band found exciting, and are interested in developing further. For good measure, the judicious use of elements from all of HELHEIM’s releases has produced an album that sums up their legendary career.

At the end of last year HELHEIM announced the completion of their new album and teased fans with the statement that this was “by far the most intriguing album we’ve done thus far. Expect the unexpected!”. And today the unexpected has arrived, with Dark Essence Records revealing not just the details of HELHEIM’s tenth full-length album, but also the title track “Rignir”, as well details of the band’s first full European tour in several years.

For well over two decades HELHEIM have represented their Norse heritage through their music and their lyrics, with an authenticity and an integrity that is frequently diluted within the so-called “Viking” genres. With “Rignir”, the band again turned to their heritage when writing the poems that form the lyrics for the album, drawing inspiration from the ljóðaháttr, an Old Norse alliterative verse form used largely in the Eddas.

As to the actual subject matter of “Rignir”, which translated means Rain, HELHEIM explain:

This time around we have been very inspired by the local weather of Bergen. The autumn and winter seasons can summon the darkest of feelings within oneself, and this backdrop served as the fertilizer that would germinate the seeds of our lyrical ideas. Exploring the darkness of nature as something that can be seen, as well as sensed, it became a canvas where the pen drew words that rose from the depths of solemnity and alienation. Although each track depicts an ever growing intensity of suffering and loss, there’s still a dialogue on how to maintain some sort of sanity or inner peace.

Let the rain fall heavily upon you.

Once again HELHEIM have recorded the album at the Conclave & Earshot Studios in Bergen, calling on the services of Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) to mix and produce “Rignir” alongside the band, and Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) to handle the mastering.

HELHEIM NOMINATED FOR SPELLEMANN AWARD & HAVE TRACK FEATURED IN CBS DRAMA SERIES

With a genuine pride and belief in their Norse heritage, HELHEIM have spent over 25 years honing their craft, and making use of old Norse legends and traditional instruments to rise far above the plethora of bands that make up the genre, and who succeed in coming across as mere cartoon-like parodies of the real thing.

And the start of 2018 certainly finds HELHEIM’s lineup of V’gandr on bass and vocals, H’grimnir on guitar and vocals, Hrymr on drums and Noralf on guitars reaping the rewards of all their hard work and dedication to their craft, with two excellent pieces of news. Starting off with a nomination for the 2017 Spellemann Award (the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy’s) in the Metal category for their ninth full-length album “landawarijaR” which was released on Dark Essence Records in January of last year.

The album, which was recorded at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, and produced by Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED), includes guest vocals from William Hut, Morten Egeland (NARROWHEAD), Pehr Skjoldhammer (ALFAHANNE), Bjornar E Nilsen and Ottorpedo. Through “landawarijaR’s” music and lyrics, as well as through the two accompanying videos, HELHEIM express the need to include the Norse Heritage into modern life by emphasising the importance, mystery and never-changing wonder of the Runes.

The second piece of news may not be new to HELHEIM’s US fans, but certainly their European fans will not know yet that a track from the band has been used in a high-profile CBS TV series, which has been snapped up by SKY for the UK market – with news still awaited regarding its appearance in other European and Scandinavian countries. The series, SEAL Team, stars DAVID BOREANAZ (Bones, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and follows the exploits of an elite S.E.A.L. team. The track “Jormundgand”, from HELHEIM’s album of the same name, which was originally released in 2006 and re-released on Dark Essence Records in 2008, features in Episode 7. Titled “Borderlines” the track forms the music to a couple of (somewhat controversial) torture training scenes!

The USA’s GOST, is, in founder Baalberith’s own words “Directed and commanded by another power. The power of darkness, which many people do not believe exists. The power of the Devil. LIttle is known about mask-wearing Baalberith, but his music, which has been described by the zine Spin as “bridging extreme metal with the more synthetic tones of darkwave, dance, and classic horror soundtracks”, makes an interesting addition to the lineup. Like the preceding video for the track “Baklengs mot intet”, “Ymr” was directed by Guilherme Henriques, and this time the band concentrates on live footage filmed at Inside Live & Rock Café bt Mathis Backe interspersed with film of some of the glorious scenery that surrounds HELHEIM’s home town of Bergen.

“Ymr” also has a theme running through it, one that is in contrast to that expressed in the “Baklengs mot intet”. As HELHEIM’s V’gandr explains:

“With “Ymr” Helheim explores the terrain that might result from the complete enlightenment of knowledge. The tree of life is the symbol of this path and you may wonder if this enlightenment is of a positive or of a negative energy. When the One with the one eye closes it, that is when we must open up ours and see what lies ahead. “Ymr” is the primal scream, the essence of man and to grow from there you have to climb. Whereas “Baklengs mot intet” showed no hope in its cloak of negativity, “Ymr” might kindle a tiny spark – but that’s up to the eye of the beholder or should I say, the ears of the listener.”

HELEHIEM’s much anticipated ninth full-length album “landawarijaR” is set to hit the streets on the 20th January on Dark Essence Records, but fans don’t need to wait until then to hear it, as the album is streaming in its entirety ahead of its release date at the following locations:

Music for the seven-track album is by H’grimnir and V’gandr with lyrics by V’gandr. It was recorded at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, where it was produced by Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED). Artists performing guest vocals on the “landawarijaR” include William Hut, Morten Egeland (NARROWHEAD), Pehr Skjoldhammer (ALFAHANNE), Bjornar E Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) and Ottorpedo.

Just as HELHEIM’s “raunijaR” followed in the same vein as its predecessor “Asgards Fall”, “landawarijaR” continues where “Heidindomr” ended. Through the songs, and the two videos that will also appear, Helheim are continuing their exploration and modern interpretation of the darker aspects of the North-European, pre-Christian , in order to capture the spirit of the Norse heritage in ways that have eluded both to researchers and archaeologists.

One of the above-mentioned videos, for the track ‘Baklengs mot intet’, was recently revealed and will be followed at a later date by “Ymr”. Produced and directed by Guilherme Henriques, the video for ‘Baklengs mot intet’ is a visual illustration of the inner battle, the bottomless despair, and endless futility experienced by a Walker of the Way. Dark Essence Records have announced that the 20th January has been set for the release of “landawarijaR” the much-anticipated ninth full-length album from Norwegian Viking Metallers HELHEIM.

“landawarijaR” will contain seven tracks, all of which bear the hallmarks of HELHEIM’s traditional Norse heritage. A Heritage of which they are rightly proud and to which they have remained true, eschewing the temptation to turn themselves into the Viking parodies that so many bands have espoused. With “landawarijaR” HELHEIM use their lyrics to express the need to include the Norse Heritage into modern life by emphasising the importance, mystery and never-changing wonder of the Runes.

Just as HELHEIM’s “raunijaR” followed in the same vein as its predecessor “Asgards Fall”, “landawarijaR” continues where “Heidindomr” ended. All four albums incorporate the use of Timpani and Horns, and the new album also has a number of artists performing guest vocals including William Hut, Morten Egeland (NARROWHEAD), Pehr Skjoldhammer (ALFAHANNE), Bjornar E Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) and Ottorpedo.

HELHEIM recently announced that two songs from the album were being turned into videos by Guilherme Henriques, who is both producing and directing the videos. ‘Ymr’ and ‘Baklengs mot intet’ are the songs that been chosen because, as the band explained, they are “neatly intertwined into a dualism which Guillherme will portray”. The videos are expected to be debuted in the run-up to the release of “landawarijaR”.

Norwegian Viking Metallers HELHEIM have completed work on what will be the band’s ninth full-length album, which is set for release on Dark Essence Records in January 2017. In the run-up to the release of the album, which will be titled “landawarijaR”, the band will be releasing two videos of tracks from the album, the first of which will appear in November.

Whilst no information about the album is available yet, HELHEIM have confirmed that the tracks being used for the videos are ‘Ymr’ and ‘Baklengs mot intet’, two songs which, as the band explained ” are neatly intertwined into a dualism that will be portrayed visually by Guilherme Henriques, who is both producing and directing the videos”.

Bergen-based HELHEIM not only has the distinction of being one on Norway’s oldest Viking bands, it is also one of the bands that has always been true to its Norse heritage. The band’s lineup of Vgandr on bass and vocals, Hgrimnir on rhythm guitar and vocals, Noralf on rhythm and lead guitar and Hrymr on drums and programming, incorporates the local myths and folklore into the subject matter of the band’s songs, and frequently make use of traditional instruments. HELHEIM’s live performances use special effects that emphasize and enhance the themes that wind their way through the band’s music .

MISTUR fans have waited a long for the follow up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2009 debut “Attende”, but that wait is finally over, with Dark Essence Records announcing that the new album, “In Memoriam”, will hit the streets on the 29th April.

Having already debuted the opening track from the album (which can be heard at http://mistur.bandcamp.com/track/downfall ) MISTUR have today revealed a second track in the form of a lyric video. The video by Marte Ø Kornerud for the track “Distant Peaks” includes Cover Art & Portraits by Bjarne Egge, and Nature Photography by Marte and Liv Ø Kornerud, and is currently streaming exclusively on the following:

Recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios in Bergen, and in the band’s private studio, “In Memoriam” was produced by MISTUR main man Espen Bakketeig and mixed by Bjørnar E. Nilsen. The album bears all the hallmarks of MISTUR’s special brand of Sognametal, this time with longer, more epic songs, complex layered arrangements, clever melodies and a touch of progressive elements, whilst never losing the unique Sognametal style that lies at the very heart of the band.
