Norway’s Pioneering Experimental Rockers VIRUS are set to release a two-track 7″ EP titled “Investigator” on the 21 April, and have today released a video for the title track.  According to the band “Investigator is dedicated to Columbo’s right eye… Peter Falk, who played the lead role in the classic detective series, had a glass eye. We believe that the eye was a separate character in the series and should have been credited as such. It should also have won the Oscar for best supporting actor many times during the seventies.”

The video, by David Hall of Uneasy Sleeper, is streaming exclusively at the following:

VIRUS was formed in 2000 by guitarist and vocalist Carl “Czral” Michael Eide who wanted to move on from avant-garde Black Metal of VED BUENS ENDE, and create a new kind of experimental metal / rock.  The band’s first, and only, demo was released that same year, and  was followed by  three full-length studio albums before signing with Karisma Records.

It was the partnership with Karisma Records that led to the release of the band’s critically acclaimed “Memento Collider” in 2016, an album which saw VIRUS return to its original three-piece lineup of  of Carl-Michael “Czral” Eide on guitars and vocals, Petter “Plenum” Berntsen on bass and Einar “Einz” Sjursø on drums.   Together they create an otherworldly sound that is filled with flowing bass lines, experimental riffs and groovy rhythms.

When renowned Romanian multi-media artist Costin Chioreanu says of his new video for  pioneering experimental rockers VIRUS “I went beyond all my boundaries and I have a feeling I touched a bit of insanity” you know that it’s going to be something unique.  Having made his mark not only as a graphic artist, but also as a stage artist, musician, animator and movie maker at a relatively young age, Chioreanu’s new animated video, for the track “Rogue Fossil” from VIRUS’ upcoming album “Memento Collider”, is the latest in a series of collaborations with artists from Karisma Records, and its sister label Dark Essence Records.  The video is making its exclusive debut on the following:

Set for release on Karisma Records on the 3rd of June, “Memento Collider” was recorded at the Amper Tone Studios in Oslo and includes a guest performance from VOIVOD’s  Dan Mongrain.  It is, without a doubt, an album that demonstrates the true essence of progressive rock.

  1. Afield
  2. Rogue Fossil
  3. Dripping Into Orbit
  4. Steamer
  5. Gravity Seeker
  6. Phantom Oil Slick

For over a decade now VIRUS have maintained their status as one of the most unique bands to have emerged from Norway’s burgeoning progressive music scene, and “Memento Collider” sees the band returning to their original three-piece lineup of Carl-Michael “Czral” Eide on guitars and vocals, Petter “Plenum” Berntsen on bass and Einar “Einz” Sjursø on drums.  Their otherworldly sound,  replete with flowing bass lines, experimental riffs and groovy rhythms, is still the epitome of all that is contained in the definition of “progressive” and “experimental”, and with this, their  fourth full-length release, VIRUS have come storming back with an album that is also catchy and melodic.

A pre-listening session for  VIRUS’ “Memento Collider” will be held at Kniven  in Oslo on the 26th May, whilst the release concert will take place at Pokalen in Oslo on the 24th June.  Tickets available from http://www.ticketmaster.no/event/500013

The 3rd June has been set as the release date for “Memento Collider”, the fourth full-length album from Experimental Hard Rockers VIRUS.   The album, with cover art by the Trine + Kim Design Studio (http://www.trineogkim.no/ ), will appear on Karisma Records, who recently signed the band.

Whilst no further details about “Memento Collider” are currently available, the self-styled  wayward Norwegian trio will give fans a taste of what is to come at Blastfest in Bergen on the 18th February, where they will showcase several tracks from the album.

VIRUS rose from the ashes of 90’s avant-garde black metal project VED BUENS ENDE in 2000 when  guitarist and vocalist Carl “Czral” Michael Eide had the idea of creating a new kind of experimental metal / rock.  Together with bassist Petter “Plenum” Berntsen and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø they released their first, and only,  demo that same year.  Three full-length studio albums followed, together with tours in Europe and the USA and a plethora of festival appearances.

Norwegian Avant-garde rockers VIRUS have signed a deal with Karisma Records that will see the label release the band’s fourth full-length album.  Alongside a recent busy touring schedule, VIRUS have been writing and honing material for the new album which will be titled “Memento Collider”, and the band is currently at work on it in studio. “Memento Collider” is scheduled for release this winter, and more details will follow.

VIRUS was formed in 2000 from the ashes of 90’s avant-garde black metal project VED BUENS ENDE by Carl “Czral” Michael Eide with the idea of creating a new kind of experimental metal / rock. With Czral on guitars and vocals, he brought with him bassist Petter “Plenum” Berntsen and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø and the band recorded their only demo that same year.

Having been picked up almost immediately by Jester Records, VIRUS released their debut album “Carheart” in 2003, but Czral’s accident in 2005, which hospitalized him for a year, resulted in the band going on hiatus until the release of their sophomore album “The Black Flux” on Season of Mist in 2008. An album, incidentally, that earned them the title of “Album of the Year” in several publications, as did 2011’s follow up album “The Agent That Shapes The Desert”, which was released on the band’s own label Virulent Music.

VIRUS’ long awaited live debut came in 2011, and aside from club appearances and tours in both Europe and the USA since then, the band has appeared at a variety of prestigious festivals.
