With their ninth full-length album “My Ghost” set to hit the streets on the 18th October on My Kingdom Music, Norwegian Extreme Metallers, CREST OF DARKNESS have today released a second single from the album.

Titled “The Ultimate Truth” the track is a demonstration of the versatility of the band, whose particular take on Extreme Metal pulls in fans from genres that range from Black to Death to Thrash to Metal.

“The Ultimate Truth”  can be streamed or downloaded from a variety of services at https://song.link/COD_truth

Accompanying the track is a video by videographer and editor Caroline Kløvrud of  Litt Films, who has been able to capture the darkness inherent within the band’s music and its founder Ingar Amlien’s lyrical concepts.

It can be seen below and at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qYaplQj1Kg

CREST OF DARKNESS’ career spans over 30 years, and  “My Ghost” will  be the heaviest, darkest and most personal work that Amlien has created to date.  As he recently explained:

“Structured as a ritual, “My Ghost” is a concept album, which, from an artistic standpoint, is meant to be heard as a whole. From the album’s evocative opening, the ritual leads us to its climax, embodied by the final song “The Ultimate Truth”. This is the point at which the listener completes the initiation into the dark world of CREST OF DARKNESS, and is thus ready to enter the “Ninth Portal”.

With its varied and uncompromising lyrics underpinning its message, “My Ghost” is essentially a long journey into the darkest recesses of the mind. A place where Nature’s darkest forces breathe energy and vitality into those who have the courage, and the strength, to become their own Gods”.

With cover art by Roy Allan Larsen,  tracklisting for “My Ghost”  is as follows:

1. My Ghost
2. Infected
3. The Will Of God
4. Call Of The Moon
5. Satanic
6. Sacrificed To The Sun
7. The Awakening
8. Under My Spell
9. The Ultimate Truth

Amlien describes the painstaking creative process that went into the making of “My Ghost”:

“My Ghost” is the result of two years worth of blood and sweat, which began with me working alone to mould my very personal thoughts and beliefs into musical ideas. Then, together as a band, with myself on bass and vocals, Rebo Rebolee on Guitars, and Bjørnar Jenssen  on drums, we developed those ideas, each contributing our own ideas to the process.

The end result is an extremely personal journey that defines the very essence of CREST OF DARKNESS.

“My Ghost” features special guest appearances by renowned Norwegian trumpet player Roy Nikolaisen, and long-term collaborator Kristian Wentzel on keyboards.  It was recorded at the MLP Studios with Nils H. Maehlum at the helm and was mastered by Giuseppe Nicolò (aka Buzz) at Lost Soul Studio.

“My Ghost” is  available to pre-order in LP, Digipak CD, Tape and Digital formats, as well as in a special bundle edition limited to 50 copies from the following:

With the their seventh full-length album “Welcome the Dead” released at the end of last year, and earning plaudits from fans and critics alike, veteran Norwegian Black Metallers CREST OF DARKNESS have uploaded a new video for a track from the album to their YouTube channel.   The track chosen for this video is “My Black Bride” which makes this a particularly unusual choice for the band, not only because it is an instrumental, something the band has only recorded on two occasions over the years, but it is also a melodic, deeply atmospheric piece, totally different from the band’s usual Black/Death/Metal sound.   The reasons for creating such an “out of character” piece are quite fascinating, and are explained below by the band’s founder and frontman  Ingar Amlien (CONCPTION, ROQUEFIRE,  AMLIEN’s INFERNO).  The video itself can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/niPFDtJgpC4

According to Amlien “My Black Bride” was written for his wife Laila, who wore a black wedding dress when the couple married over ten years ago.    “I had wanted to write a special song for Laila for a long time.  She has supported me and my work for so many years, and without her I really don’t know where I would be today, and I  knew right from the start that if I was to create this piece it would have to be totally honest.  Something personal, and not the kind of rose-tinted love song that people tend to expect when you write a song dedicated to the love of your life.

“I tried to capture the feeling of romance and happiness, but at the same time I wanted to touch on something more “forbidden” – the dark side if you like to think of it like that.  Like most couples we have been through many experiences in the time we’ve shared together, both good and bad. But, unlike most couples, my work has always involved being “in touch” with both Life and Death, something  Laila has always been very aware of, so the difficult times take on a darker significance.

“I also knew that this song had to be an instrumental because words could not possibly express what I was trying to communicate with this song.  I played the guitars myself – I felt I had to as these few notes I’m playing are so extremely personal.   To the listener the song may sound like a simple, stripped down piece of music, which is what I intended it to be, but it comes from the depth of my heart ands contains many small details that someone outside of the relationship I have with my wife cannot understand.  It’s a heartbreaking piece, but as with all my music, there is something deeper behind it.  There is my belief that inside all of us there burns a black flame – that special will to survive”.

The video itself was created and edited by Francesco Palumbo at MKM Graphix, using images from the Cappuccin Catacombs in Palermo, Italy, and, given that “My Black Bride” is essentially a romantic piece, the choice of such macabre images might seem strange.  “When I first saw the video I almost choked” admitted Amlien.  “The images were right for CREST OF DARKNESS, but I was a little taken aback at first.  However, the more I looked at it, the more I realised that they were, in fact, perfect”.

“Welcome the Dead” was released on My Kingdom Music in both CD and Digital formats at the end of last year.  A double LP format, which will feature a special bonus track, will be released shortly in collaboration with Metal Age Productions, Kristallblut Records and Supreme Music Creations.  Artwork for the album features  the strange and disturbing Zombie Foetus sculptures created by the Italian artist Andrea Falaschi.

Avant-garde Metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES and fellow Norwegian Experimental Black/Death Metallers SULPHUR have banded together to perform a series of dates later this month.   Going by the name of “The Tower Falls Tour”, a reference to VULTURE INDUSTRIES last album “The Tower”, the tour  will kick off with both bands appearing at the Phantoms of Pilsen Festival in the Czech Republic, before moving on to Germany,  Hungary and Romania for six further shows.  Routing as follows:

21 Oct: Phantoms Of Pilsen, Pilsen (CZ)
22 Oct:  Festung, Bitterfeld (DE)
27 Oct:  Supersonic,  Budapest (HUN)
28 Oct:  Casa de Cultura Studentilor,  Craiove (RO)
29 Oct:  Club Fabrica, Bucharest (RO)
30 Oct:  Rock ‘N’ Iasi, Iasi (RO)
31 Oct:  Daos Club, Timisoara, (RO)

With over a decade’s worth of live appearances, superb technical skills, and one of the most eccentric frontmen around in the shape of Bjørnar E. Nilsen, VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ highly theatrical on-stage performances never fail to earn the band scores of new followers wherever they play.  Add to that  three critically acclaimed albums and a series of collaborations in the fields of performance art and video, and you get a band that is always exciting and always has a surprise or two in store for their audience.

With a lineup that includes current and former members of bands such as GORGOROTH, ENSLAVED, AETERNUS and VULTURE INDUSTRIES, there is little doubt that SULPHUR has a pedigree that will ensure that fans coming to see the band live on stage will not be disappointed.  “Omens of Doom”, SULPHUR’s second full-length album was released on Dark Essence Records earlier this year, and has garnered universal praise from fans and critics alike.
