Norwegian Black Metal veterans CREST OF DARKNESS have revealed a new video by Stig Kenneth Limmesand for the title track from their ninth full-length album “The God Of Flesh”.

The video can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/0VNOLVXpwjQ

A
CREST OF DARKNESS founder Ingar Amlien has this to say about the new video:

Stig Kenneth Limmesand has done a great job with the video for “The God Of Flesh”.  He’s succeeded in capturing CREST OF DARKNESS and all our symbolism in the best possible way, presenting them in a such a way that is not only up to date, but also very much “Old School”  in the “right way”

Released on My Kingdom Music in December of last year, “The God Of Flesh” is still filled  with CREST OF DARKNESS’  trademark Satanic themes,  but, at the same time, it marks a change to the  feel, variety, and depth of the music.  It is, according to Amlien, “probably the darkest and most brutal album we’ve ever made! It’s also the most honest work ever from my perspective

With “The God Of Flesh” CREST OF DARKNESS’ vastly experienced, and extremely skilled,  lineup of Amlien (CONCEPTION, ROQUEFIRE, AMLIEN’s INFERNO) on Bass and Vocals, Rebo on Rhythm and Lead Guitars, and Berhard (ex- PALE FOREST) on Drums, along with the album’s session keyboardist Kristian Wentzel,  demonstrate how equally at home they with more progressive and melodic elements, as they are  the with the aggressive and dark brutal side, for which they are known.

Crest Of Darkkness PR1

Seeking an outlet for his passion for sonic brutality and his interest in Vampirism and Satanic ideology, on which he is an acknowledged expert, Amlien  formed CREST OF DARKNESS in the mid nineties and considers today’s lineup to be the strongest in the band’s history, as he explains:

During the whole production of the album I was thinking that now, more than ever before, I wanted to make an album my way!  And, as a result, we haven’t made any compromises whatsoever, in any direction.  And I’m very fortunate to be able to say that I was not alone during the whole process. With the help of my fantastic band mates Rebo and Bernhard, it became possible to bring my darkest fantasies and visions to life through “The God of Flesh”

“The God of Flesh” is available in Digital, Digipak CD, Deluxe CD Box, and Vinyl formats from all the usual retailers at http://smarturl.it/CODFLESH

Norwegian Black Metal veterans CREST OF DARKNESS have revealed a track from their upcoming ninth full-length album “The God Of Flesh”, which is set for release on My Kingdom Music on the 6th December.

CREST OF DARKNESS founder Ingar Amlien has this to say about the  track, which is titled “The Child With No Head” :

Here we are, yet another chapter written in the book of CREST OF DARKNESS, with a track that is probably one of the most violent and extreme we have ever written during  our career. Turn up the f***ing volume and you’ll be overwhelmed by its sense of loss and total lack of hope.

“The Child With No Head” can be heard below and at https://youtu.be/h48655yPThU

Although still filled  with CREST OF DARKNESS’  trademark Satanic themes “The God Of Flesh” marks a change to the  feel, variety and depth of the music, showing the band’s lineup of Amlien (CONCEPTION, ROQUEFIRE, AMLIEN’s INFERNO) on Bass and Vocals, Rebo on Rhythm and Lead Guitars, and Berhard (ex- PALE FOREST) on Drums,  to be as much at home with more progressive and melodic elements, as they are  the with the aggressive and dark brutal side, for which they are known.

Amlien recently remarked  that “The God Of Flesh”, which will be the band’s ninth full-length album,  was “probably the darkest and most brutal album we’ve ever made! It’s also the most honest work ever from my perspective

With all lyrics by Amlien and music by Amlien, Rebo and Bernhard, except for the track “Forgotten” where Amlien joins forces with the album’s session keyboardist Kristian Wentzel, and with cover art by  Marius Engli Andersson, track listing for “The God of Flesh” is as follows:

1.The God of Flesh
2. The Child with no Head
3. Endless Night
4. The Spawn of Seth
5. Forgotten
6. Euthanasia

This is probably the darkest and most brutal album we’ve ever made! It’s also the most honest work ever from my perspective.

So says CREST OF DARKNESS founder Ingar Amlien about “The God of Flesh”, the ninth full-length album from the Norwegian Black Metal veterans.

Set for release on the 25th October on My Kingdom Music, “The God of Flesh” promises nine tracks filled with CREST OF DARKNESS’  trademark Satanic themes. But this time the band has expanded the feel, variety and depth of their music, showing them to be as much at home with more progressive and melodic elements, as they are  the with the aggressive and dark brutal side, for which they are known.

Recorded  and mixed at the MLP Studio and Engineered by Nils H. Mæhlum,  with guitars being recorded at Attic 43 and engineered by Rebo, “The God of Flesh” was produced by Crest of Darkness and mastered  at the Kvålsonic Lab by Tom Kvålsvoll.

1. The God of Flesh
2. The Child with no Head
3. Endless Night
4. The Spawn of Seth

9. Salvation in Hell

Seeking an outlet for his passion for sonic brutality and his interest in Vampirism and Satanic ideology, on which he is an acknowledged expert, Amlien  formed CREST OF DARKNESS in the mid nineties.  The band today,  which Amlien considers to be the strongest lineup to date, consists of Amlien (CONCEPTION, ROQUEFIRE, AMLIEN’s INFERNO) on Bass and Vocals, Rebo on Rhythm and Lead Guitars, and Berhard (ex- PALE FOREST) on drums.

Of  the new album and the contribution made by his band mates, Amlien  had this to say:

During the whole production of the album I was thinking that now, more than ever before, I wanted to make an album my way!  And, as a result, we haven’t made any compromises whatsoever, in any direction.  And I’m very fortunate to be able to say that I was not alone during the whole process. With the their seventh full-length album “Welcome the Dead” released at the end of last year, and earning plaudits from fans and critics alike, veteran Norwegian Black Metallers CREST OF DARKNESS have uploaded a new video for a track from the album to their YouTube channel.   The track chosen for this video is “My Black Bride” which makes this a particularly unusual choice for the band, not only because it is an instrumental, something the band has only recorded on two occasions over the years, but it is also a melodic, deeply atmospheric piece, totally different from the band’s usual Black/Death/Metal sound.   The reasons for creating such an “out of character” piece are quite fascinating, and are explained below by the band’s founder and frontman  Ingar Amlien (CONCPTION, ROQUEFIRE,  AMLIEN’s INFERNO).  The video itself can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/niPFDtJgpC4

According to Amlien “My Black Bride” was written for his wife Laila, who wore a black wedding dress when the couple married over ten years ago.    “I had wanted to write a special song for Laila for a long time.  She has supported me and my work for so many years, and without her I really don’t know where I would be today, and I  knew right from the start that if I was to create this piece it would have to be totally honest.  Something personal, and not the kind of rose-tinted love song that people tend to expect when you write a song dedicated to the love of your life.

“I tried to capture the feeling of romance and happiness, but at the same time I wanted to touch on something more “forbidden” – the dark side if you like to think of it like that.  Like most couples we have been through many experiences in the time we’ve shared together, both good and bad. But, unlike most couples, my work has always involved being “in touch” with both Life and Death, something  Laila has always been very aware of, so the difficult times take on a darker significance.

“I also knew that this song had to be an instrumental because words could not possibly express what I was trying to communicate with this song.  I played the guitars myself – I felt I had to as these few notes I’m playing are so extremely personal.   To the listener the song may sound like a simple, stripped down piece of music, which is what I intended it to be, but it comes from the depth of my heart ands contains many small details that someone outside of the relationship I have with my wife cannot understand.  It’s a heartbreaking piece, but as with all my music, there is something deeper behind it.  There is my belief that inside all of us there burns a black flame – that special will to survive”.

The video itself was created and edited by Francesco Palumbo at MKM Graphix, using images from the Cappuccin Catacombs in Palermo, Italy, and, given that “My Black Bride” is essentially a romantic piece, the choice of such macabre images might seem strange.  “When I first saw the video I almost choked” admitted Amlien.  “The images were right for CREST OF DARKNESS, but I was a little taken aback at first.  However, the more I looked at it, the more I realised that they were, in fact, perfect”.

“Welcome the Dead” was released on My Kingdom Music in both CD and Digital formats at the end of last year.  A double LP format, which will feature a special bonus track, will be released shortly in collaboration with Metal Age Productions, Kristallblut Records and Supreme Music Creations.  Artwork for the album features  the strange and disturbing Zombie Foetus sculptures created by the Italian artist Andrea Falaschi.

Commenting on the video, founder and frontman Ingar Amlien had this to say: “We wanted to make a video that offers a glimpse into the dark world of CREST OF DARKNESS.  Perhaps we are just story tellers recounting a fairytale,  and the video can certainly be viewed and enjoyed at that level, but we are also  touching on aspects of Life itself and those eternal questions that people ask themselves about life and death and the meaning of it all.

“We might not have all the answers, and in all honesty we don’t even want to pretend that we do, but what we do want is to make people think for themselves, and find their own answers .  Let’s face it, we are all Gods.  Each of us builds their own universe, and it just happens that the world of CREST OF DARKNESS is my universe”.

Recorded at the at MLP Studio by Nils H. Mæhlum, and mastered at the Kvålsonic Lab by Tom Kvålsvoll, the nine-track album promises to be the heaviest, darkest and most introspective album in the band’s twenty plus year history.    It will be released on My Kingdom Music in both CD and Digital formats, as well as a double LP format which will feature a special bonus track.

With artwork that features  the strange and disturbing Zombie Foetus sculptures created by the Italian artist Andrea Falaschi, tracklisting on “Welcome the Dead” is as follows:

1. Welcome The Dead
2. Chosen By The Devil
3. Scourged And Crucified
4. My Black Bride
5. Borrowed Life
6. The Almighty
7. Memento Mori
8. The Noble Art

“Welcome the Dead” includes a guest appearance  by Norwegian actor Espen Reboli Bjerke, well known for his extensive work in films, theatre, radio and Television.  Bjerke, who also won a Spelleman Award, the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammies, performs the  spoken part on “Katharsis”,  the closing track on the album.

Amlien, whose illustrious musical history started with the legendary CONCPTION, and includes  ROQUEFIRE and  AMLIEN’s INFERNO,  confirms that “Welcome the Dead” has a particular significance for him:  ” I’ve put a hell of a lot of myself and my emotions  into this album, even more so than usual.  I’ve always felt that when we are on stage, we create a sort of magic, and this time we have been able to transfer that magic to the recordings.  You could say this is my personal Black Mass”.

CREST OF DARKNESS’ lineup of  Amlien on bass and vocals, Rebo on guitars, Bernhard (ex- PALE FOREST) on drums, and Kristian Wentzel on keyboards,  will celebrate the release of “Welcome the Dead” with a show special Friday the 13th show at Retro in Raufoss, Norway in January.

Norwegian Black Metallers CREST OF DARKNESS  have released a lyric video for the track “From the Dead” taken from their sixth full-length album “In the Presence of Death”, which was released last year on My Kingdom Music.  The video can be seen below and on the band’s YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/xKQPoDB8860

CREST OF DARKNESS is the dark offspring of frontman and bassist Ingar Amlien, who formed the band in the mid-nineties at a time when the popularity of his  then-band CONCEPTION was at its height.  Amlien had always wanted to more fully explore his interest in Vampirism and Satanic ideology, and to do this he realised that he would have to move away from the Progressive side of Power Metal, and CREST of DARKNESS is the vehicle he chose.    Using his passion for sonic brutality to create an intense form of Black Metal that makes use of Death and Epic Metal and even a hint of the Gothic,  Amlien has, over the years, been able to develop a sound that is unmistakably CREST OF DARKNESS in its intensity.

Aside from preparing CREST OF DARKNESS to hit the stage again, Amlien is also working on new material for the band’s next album, and has hinted that there will be some significant news coming from the CREST OF DARKNESS CAMP very soon.  He is also currently working on a new album with ROQUEFIRE, the Hard Rock band for which he plays bass.
