Five the Hierophant PR1

FIVE THE HIEROPHANT,  whose debut full length album “Over Phlegethon” was released on Dark Essence Records at the end of last year, have today revealed a new video for a second track from the album.

The band had this to say about their new video: “Since our music is quite visual, image evoking, we have a treat for you to dispel boredom of the meantime. ‘Der Geist der Stets Verneint’ is ‘The spirit that negates’ –  Mephistopheles from ‘Faust’.  He speaks to us against the backdrop of possessed avant-garde ballet scenes and experimental films of Hans Richter”.

The UK Trio of Chris on drums, temple bells, djembe, shakers and gong, Mitch on  bass and effects, and  महाकाली on guitars, bowed guitars, rag-dung, violin and  grand piano noise, create a sound that mixes Psychedelic Black Metal, Jazz, Post Metal and Ambient with the band’s trademark heavy riffs,  drone-like atmospheres and ritualistic soundscapes.

It is this ritualistic aspect that FIVE THE HIEROPHANT   bring with them during their live appearances, and fans will be able to see for themselves when the band embarks on a series of festivals and tours during 2018.

Five the Hierophant PR1

Dark Essence Records have set the 22nd September as the release date for “Over Phlegethon”,  the debut full-length album from FIVE THE HIEROPHANT, who recently signed to the Norwegian label, known for its uncanny ability to sniff out promising new talent to add to its roster of established and iconic bands.

With “Over Phlegethon”,  the UK Trio have brought the full weight of their ritualistic soundscapes to bear. It is a dark and devastating album,  imbued with Psychedelic Black Metal, Jazz, Post Metal and Ambient,  all of which, combined with the band’s trademark heavy riffs, drone-like atmospheres and a Black Metal intensity, reveal a sound and atmosphere that is unique to FIVE THE HIEROPHANT.

This uniqueness if further emphasized by the unusual array of instruments used by the band, whose lineup is composed of Chris on drums, temple bells, djembe, shakers and gong, Mitch on  bass and effects, and  महाकाली on guitars, bowed guitars, rag-dung, violin and  grand piano noise.

“Over Phlegethon” was recorded and mixed at Scream Studios in London.  The cover art for the album is a painting entitled “Dust Lickers” by Odd Nerdrum.   Track listing is as follows:

Five the Hierophant PR

Dark Essence Records have inked a deal with the UK trio FIVE THE HIEROPHANT, whose instrumental music is composed of ritualistic soundscapes fused with Psychedelic Black Metal, Jazz, Post Metal and Ambient.

The band’s debut album, slated for release later this year,  will be the follow up to the 2015 self-titled  EP “Five the Hierophant”,  which was released on Witching Hours Productions.  Work has been progressing well on the, as yet, untitled album, with the drum tracks having been laid down already.

FIVE THE HIEROPHANT, whose lineup comprises Chris on drums, temple bells, djembe, shakers and gong, Mitch on  bass and effects, and  महाकाली on guitars, bowed guitars, rag-dung, violin and  grand piano noise, had this to say about their upcoming collaboration with Dark Essence Records:

“It is with happiness and great pride that we can announce that FIVE THE HIEROPHANT is about to embark on a journey that we hope will take us far,  far, out.  And you’re coming with us. We have joined forces with good people of Karisma / Dark Essence records from Bergen, and are heading towards murky waters over Phlegethon  like there’s no tomorrow”.
