With their third full-length album, simply titled “III”,  due out  on Karisma Records on the 27th January,  Brazilian Symphonic Proggers CARAVELA ESCARLATE  have released another song from the album. This time the chosen track is “Mandala”, which, in keeping with the album’s theme, takes a look at another significant period in history, as the band explains:

The introspective feel of this instrumental song, set over a solid mid-tempo groove, together with the epic moments of the chorus guided by mellotrons, leads the audience on a trip to the old cultures, in which circular forms represent the relationship between humankind and divine things.

“Mandala” can be streamed or downloaded from a number of services at https://link.karismarecords.no/Caravela-Escarlate_Mandala

Drawing inspiration from both English and Italian ‘70s Prog Rock, CARAVELA ESCARLATE was formed in 2011 in Rio de Janeiro.  Today’s lineup of Jove David Paiva on vocal, bass, guitar, Elcio Cáfaro on drums, and Ronaldo Rodrigues (ARCPELAGO, BLUE RUMBLE) on keyboard, create a sound that allows audiences into a world of organs and synthesisers, played over a solid foundation of drums and bass.

It is sound that is not too dissimilar to the exciting prog-rock trios of the 1970s, but there is an essential difference that imbues CARAVELA ESCARLATE’s music with an atmosphere that is original, and uniquely its own – because this is a band whose heritage enables it to take its international feel and blend into it a wealth of traditional and popular Brazilian music.

The Roman Empire, the Medieval  Period, Pre-Columbian Civilisations, and the Age of Discovery  were seminal periods in  the development of humanity and the world as we know it today,  and,  in “III”,  CARAVELA ESCARLATE  use their music to explores each period in a uniquely musical way.

With cover art  by the renowned British artist J.M.W.Turner, chosen for its depiction of a cataclysmic event, namely the eruption of Vesuvius which destroyed Pompeii in AD 79, track listing for “III” is as follows:

01. Bússola do Tempo
02. Castelos do Céu
03. Sonhos Medievais
04. Mandala
05. Cruz da Ordem
06. Ciclos
07. Filtro dos Sonhos

“III” will be released in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats,  is now available to pre-order from various services at https://link.karismarecords.no/CaravelaEscarlate_III

The new year sees the release of the third full-length album from Brazilian Symphonic Proggers CARAVELA ESCARLATE.  A follow up to the bands self-titled 2018 album, and simply titled “III”, the album promises a new journey along the pathways of  vintage progressive rock.

With seven tracks (of which two are instrumentals) to choose from, Karisma Records have chosen to release the track ” Bússola do Tempo” as a single, as the band explains:

“Bússola do Tempo” is the opening track of our new album “III”, and, as the  first single,  it serves as an introduction to the album itself. The song is driven by  powerful bass riffs, a heavy drum section, a warm organ sound, and remarkable synth interludes, the whole of which bears the  influence of glorious 70s classic prog/rock.

You can download or stream “Bússola do Tempo”  from a number of services at https://link.karismarecords.no/CaravelaEscarlate_BussolaDoTempo

Formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2011, CARAVELA ESCARLATE is heavily inspired by both English and Italian ‘70s Prog Rock, but what sets them apart from other bands of their ilk, is that they are able to draw on a wealth of traditional and popular Brazilian music, which gives the trio a special, and quite unique, sound.

With “III”, CARAVELA ESCARLATE have chosen to evoke significant historical issues within their differing contexts.  As such they have created an album that cuts a broad swath through the Roman Empire, the Medieval  Period, Pre-Columbian Civilisations, and the Age of Discovery.

Even the cover art for “III”,  by the renowned British artist J.M.W.Turner, has been chosen for its depiction of a cataclysmic event, namely the eruption of Vesuvius which destroyed Pompeii in AD 79.

Tracklisting for “III” is as follows:

01. Bússola do Tempo
02. Castelos do Céu
03. Sonhos Medievais
04. Mandala
05. Cruz da Ordem
06. Ciclos
07. Filtro dos Sonhos

“III” will be released on Karisma Records on the 27th January 2023 in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats and is now available to pre-order from various services at

https://link.karismarecords.no/CaravelaEscarlate_III

In musical terms, CARAVELA ESCARLATE’s lineup of Jove David Paiva on vocal, bass, guitar, Elcio Cáfaro on drums, and Ronaldo Rodrigues (ARCPELAGO, BLUE RUMBLE) on keyboard, provide audiences with a deep dive into the world of organs and synthesisers, played over a solid foundation of drums and bass.  Not too dissimilar from the exciting prog-rock trios of the 1970s, but, with the bands unique universal influences and Brazilian accents.

Norwegian Prog Rockers  JORDSJØ are back with “Nattfiolen”, an album filled with acoustic guitars, flutes, tape echo, analogue synths and Hammond organ.  Warm and dreamy, “Nattfiolen” reflects the band’s longing for a simpler life close to nature, and an imaginary past where life is centered around music.

And today Karisma Records have released a single from the album that perfectly illustrates the folk-inspired Symphonic Prog, one could almost say Forest Prog, that typifies  JORDSJØ’s musical output.   The single, for the track “Stifinner” can be streamed or downloaded at  https://orcd.co/stifinner

Led by multi-instrumentalist Håkon Oftung (ex-Tusmørke), JORDSJØ was formed in Oslo in 2014, and is a band that draws its inspiration from old horror movies, German 70s Synth music, Swedish Prog, fantasy novels and Norwegian nature.  So much so, in fact, that when, just over a year ago, JORDSJØ first spoke about “Nattfiolen”, they referred to it as “a kind of Intermezzo that will explore more deeply the mysticism that surrounds the forest”.

“Nattfiolen” is the follow-up to 2018’s critically acclaimed debut “Jord”.   Recorded and mixed in JORDSJØ’s  own studio, “Nattfiolen” is mastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo (White Willow, The Opium Cartel, etc.) at the Dude Ranch Studio.

With cover art by Sindre Foss Skancke and band photos by Anne-Marie Forker, track listing for “Nattfiolen” is as follows:

  1. Ouverture
  2. Stifinner
  3. Solens Sirkulære Sang
  4. Septemberbål
  5. Mine Templer II
  6. Til Våren
  7. Ulvenatt

Wobbler PR2

With their new album “From Silence to Somewhere” set for release on Karisma Records the 20th October, Norwegian Symphonic Proggers WOBBER have released a new promo video  comprising excerpts from all  the tracks featured on the album.  The video, by W. S. Prestmo, can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/8oSoXeftEvw

A
The four-track release  comes in with a running time of 47 minutes, and, as  Andreas Wettergreen Strømman Prestmo (Vocals and Guitars) says, the band is excited to give fans a glimpse into  what they can expect from the new album, which has taken WOBBLER  in the region of four to five years to complete.  The band admits that they took their time in order to achieve what they consider to be their best album to date, and which sees a more introspective WOBBLER exploring darker themes.

Having said that, “From Silence to Somewhere” nevertheless feels  like a natural progression from the band’s previous release.  Flamenco and Italian Renaissance music can be heard weaving their way subtly through the melancholy harmonies that are combined with powerful crescendos and high-energy, spinet-driven passages, whilst the guitar riffs range from the poignant to the edgy.

Fans of WOBBLER’s trademark sound have nothing to worry about though, with the band making good use of Mellotron, Moog, Hammond, Chamberlin and other classical analogue keyboards, and of course the renowned Rickenbacker Bass.

With artwork by Thomas Kaldhol (Samuel Jackson 5, Panzerpappa, Lukas Kasha etc), “From Silence to Somewhere” will be available in either CD Digipak or Jewel Case formats, each with a 12 page booklet, as well as in  Digital format.  LPs will be available in both standard black or in a limited edition Transparent orange/black marble vinyl limited to 500 copies only.  Tracklisting on “From Silence to Somewhere” is as follows:

1. From Silence to Somewhere
2. Rendered in Shades of Green
3. Fermented Hours
4. Foxlight

Formed in Hønefoss in 1999, WOBBLER’s current lineup features current and former members of TUSMØRKE, WHITE WILLOW, THE CHRONICLES OF FATHER ROBIN and JAGA JAZZIST.  With Lars Fredrik Frøislie on keyboards and backing vocals, Kristian Karl Hultgren on  bass, bass clarinet and bass pedals, Martin Nordrum Kneppen on drums, percussion and recorder,  Andreas Wettergreen Strømman Prestmo on vocals, guitar, glockenspiel and percussion, and Geir Marius Bergom Halleland on lead guitar and backing vocals.  the band can avail itself of a considerable  array of instruments that  have a huge, and very interesting impact,  on the overall sound.

Major Parkinson PR

While fans of cult prog rockers MAJOR PARKINSON await the 27th October release of the band’s new full length album Blackbox,  they can content themselves with the track Madeleine Crumbles, the second single to be released from the album.  Karisma Records is releasing Madeleine Crumbles in all territories except for Norway, where the band is handling the release themselves.  The single can be found at the following:

TIDAL / WiMP http://listen.tidalhifi.com/album/78681454
iTunes / Apple Music https://itunes.apple.com/album/-/id1282666065

With Madeleine Crumbles  the outlandish Norwegians treat their listeners to a five minute pop journey that is at times playful, and at times nostalgic.  The song, which features Linn Frøkedal (The Megaphonic Thrift), and a host of guest musicians, shows a densely orchestrated side of MAJOR PARKINSON rarely seen before, and the band had this to say of the track:

“Madeleine Crumbles may function as a soft introduction into the darkness of our Blackbox – A snappy, dancy and orchestral tune that sets a new personal record in guest musicians. Unlike most of our songs, this one was basically written within one single day by Jon Ivar and Lars, which says something about the immediate nature of these melodies.”

Blackbox will be the fourth studio album from the cult prog phenomenon that is MAJOR PARKINSON,  and will be available on Degaton Records in Norway and on Karisma Records in the rest of the world.  Aside from the previously mentioned Linn Frøkedal, who, in fact, makes a guest appearance on four tracks in total, Blackbox also features several other guest artists who, together, add their unique talents to the overall sound of the album, which the band spent the better part of two years creating.

Filled with frenetic horn sections, angelic strings, rusty hammers, paper planes and rocket ships, and under  the guidance of sound maestro Yngve Leidulv Sætre, MAJOR PARKINSON’s lineup of Jon Ivar Kollbotn, Eivind Gammersvik, Lars C Bjørknes, Sondre Veland, Sondre Skollevoll, Øysten Bech-Eriksen and Claudia Cox,  have come up with an uncompromising work, somewhere at the crossroads between progressive rock, cinematic pop, heavy industry and icy Arctic electronics.

With artwork by Martin Kvamme, tracklisting on Blackbox is as follows:

  1. Lover, Lower Me Down!
  2. Night Hitcher
  3. Before the Helmets
  4. Isabel – A Report to an Academy
  5. Scenes from Edison’s Black Maria
  6. Madeleine Crumbles
  7. Baseball
  8. Strawberry Suicide
  9. Blackbox

With just over a month to go until the release of “From Silence to Somewhere”,  the fourth full-length album from Norway’s leading Symphonic Prog band WOBBLER,  Karisma Records have released a promo video which not only gives fans a taste of the music they can expect to hear, but also an insight into the band itself.

It is a fascinating glimpse into the workings of a group of people  who, as they have matured and grown together as individuals and as musicians,  have quite considerably changed the way they write and make their music.   And most noticeably it is an example of a close and enduring friendship amongst the members of WOBBLER that gives the individual  musicians the confidence to change, and exchange, ideas in a way that often takes an original idea in a completely unexpected direction, without egos getting in the way, and having a lot of fun while they do it.

The video can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/sqrqPG7MZwk

“From Silence to Somewhere”, which is set for release on the 20th October,  is comprised of four epic tracks that explore the idea of metamorphosis and alchemy.  WOBBLER’s trademark sound, which makes use of copious amounts of Mellotron, Moog, Hammond, Chamberlin and other classical analogue keyboards, and of course the renowned Rickenbacker Bass,  is very much in evidence.
