“With glass-shattering riffs and chants for death, ancient rites come to life with Hex” is how Black Metallers TILINTETGJORT describe the new single Dark Essence Records have chosen to release from the band’s upcoming debut full-length album.

And “Hex”  certainly is all that, as you can hear for yourselves by either downloading or streaming the track from a variety of services at https://link.darkessencerecords.no/Tilintetgjort_Hex

A video for the track by Den Gamle can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/Ate_sRfvFBs

Formed in the early summer of 2020 by Oslo-based musicians Den Gamle and Hazzlegard on guitars, and Sturt on bass, TILINTETGJORT’s lineup was completed with the addition of Tybalt on drums and Svik on vocals, and work quickly started on the album that was to become  “In Death I Shall Arise”.

TILINTETGJORT’s Avant-garde Black Metal finds its inspiration in ’90’s Black Metal, along with ’70’s Prog, and a variety of other experimental genres, and by melding them together and adding their own, personal touches, the band creates a nightmarish visions of alchemical madness and arcane mysteries  that blur the line between insanity and reality, filling the listener with dread.

A fierce and passionate band, TILINTETGJORT are one of the more interesting artists to have appeared  on the Oslo Black Metal scene recently.  Their work ethic is not to be doubted, with its members undertaking an arduous creative process and  gruelling rehearsals in order to produce the desired results, both in the studio for “In Death I Shall Arise” and on stage for live performances.

For the recording of “In Death I Shall Arise”  TILINTETGJORT preferred to use some of the older techniques, with the majority of the album being recorded live over  a period of three days.  After a few overdubs in Evil Octopus Studios, the album was mixed at Chaka Khan before being mastered by Jack Control of Enormous Door.

As a result “In Death I Shall Arise” is a focused and inspired piece of work that displays an abundance of creativity on the part of TILINTETGJORT, with the band’s desire to break down the stifling confines of a genre that frequently finds itself stagnating very much in evidence.

Filled with inspiration and madness of the soul, “In Death I Shall Arise” invites the listener to join the band as they embark on a journey to hunt for truth in a widely delusional world, guiding  us through the mysteries of knowledge and death.

Set for release on the 31st March, track listing for  “In Death I Shall Arise” is as follows:

1. Kvikksølvdrømmer
2. Sannhetens Søyler
3. Mercurial
4. Vinter Og Høst
5. Hex
6. Dommedagsmonument

A video for “Mercurial”,  the recently-released first  single from the album can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/yG8o53ZieA8

Sixteen years have passed since Folk Prog Rockers LUMSK last released an album, but there’s good news for the band’s many fans, because on the 5th of May “Fremmede Toner”, the band’s fourth full-length album, is due to hit the streets on Dark Essence Records.

The title, “Fremmede Toner”, which translated means “Foreign Tones” is taken from a collection of poems translated into Norwegian by the author André Bjerke. The poems featured include those by some of the most famous European and North American poets, such as Nietzsche, Goethe, Swinburne etc.

So far nothing too unusual you may be thinking, but this is where LUMSK take the concept one step further, because, after having composed the music using the Norwegian version of the poems, the band then take those compositions and adapt them to the poems in the original language itself, as they explain:

Not long after the release of «Det Vilde Kor» back in 2007 we somehow stumbled upon a collection of poems by Norwegian Author André Bjerke. In this book, entitled «Fremmde Toner», Bjerke has translated and re-created poems from different English and German speaking poets. When we read those translations and re-creations an idea started to form. We wanted not only to write music to the Norwegian poems, but also write songs to the original poems. The idea of the concept was not only to make the same songs twice, but to make the songs mirror each other in a way, trying to somehow recreate the idea of a translation or re-creation. As with the poems the songs are not the same, but still familiar.

So, finally, after over 15 years, we are ready to present this work. The album, named «Fremmede Toner», consists of twelve songs, or 6 pairs. First you have the Norwegian poems, and afterwards you have the poems in their original form. Even though it has taken us 15 years to release this new album, we have not been working on it continuously over these years. It wasn´t until we completed our line-up with a new vocalist, Mari Klingen, and a new guitarist, Roar Grindheim, that things really started to happen. We are so happy to once again be able to release new music, and are excited to see how it will resonate with old and new listeners.

We really would like to thank those of you who patiently have waited and asked for news from us. The support from different places around the world have been important and moving to witness. It makes the enormous effort behind this album worth it in every way. We hope you will enjoy the album and the concept. It might be strange to hear Lumsk in German and English, but we are really satisfied with the result.

This concept is also reflected on the album cover by Per Spjøtvold, someone with whom the band has worked since the beginning, and, with mixing by Rhys Marsh at Autumnsongs Recordings, and Mastering by Arnstein Fossvik at AudioMaster, the track listing on “Fremmede Toner” is as follows:

  1. Det Døde Barn
  2. En Harmoni
  3. Avskjed
  4. Under Linden
  5. Fiolen
  6. Dagen er Endt
  7. Das Tode Kind
  8. A Match
  9. Abschied
  10. Under der Linden
  11. Da Veilschen
  12. The Day is Done

“Fremmede Toner” is actually the first album on which LUMSK perform songs in a foreign language,  whilst musically it continues along the path that has earned the band considerable international recognition. Thanks to their unique blend of metal and Nordic folk music, bound together with rich textures and clever arrangement, “Fremmede Toner” delivers LUMSK’s most varied and intriguing work to date.

“Fremmede Toner” will be released in CD, Double LP and Digital formats and is now available to pre-order from the following:

BandCamp:  https://lumsk.bandcamp.com/album/fremmede-toner
Webshop:  https://darkessencerecords.no/kar215-lumsk-fremmede-toner/
US Webshop:  https://darkessence.indiemerch.com/

Formed in 1999 In Trondheim, Norway, it can be argued that LUMSK was likely one of the first bands to have been “built for folk” from the ground up. With their heavy guitars, keyboard and organs, violins, session horns and female vocals, LUMSK was one of the many bands who, towards the end of the 20th Century, were exploring the concept of regional folk traditions. This led to a growing interest amongst metal fans and the creation of a sub-genre all of its own.

Having undergone a number of changes over the years, LUMSK’s seven-piece lineup today includes Mari Klingen on Vocals, Siv Lena Laugtug Sæther on Violin, Eystein Garberg on Guitar, Roar Grindheim on  Guitar, Espen Warankov Godø on Keyboards, Espen Hammer on Bass, and Vidar Berg on Drums.

On the 31st March, Dark Essence Records will be releasing the debut full-length album from TILINTETGJORT, one of the most interesting of the new bands to have recently emerged on Oslo’s Black Metal scene.  Titled “In Death I Shall Arise” the album reveals TILINTETGJORT  to be a fierce and passionate band. One whose strange nightmarish visions blurs the line between insanity and reality, and fills the listener with dread, alchemical madness, and arcane mysteries.

As a taste of things to come, Dark Essence has today released the track “Mercurial”  from the album. It is a track about which TILINTETGJORT exhorts us to “Inhale the fumes of mercury and embark on a journey through alchemical visions and truths”.

“Mercurial” can be streamed or downloaded from a variety of services at https://link.darkessencerecords.no/Tilintetgjort_Mercurial

Finding inspiration for their particular brand of Avant-garde Black Metal in both ’90’s Black Metal, as well as  in ’70’s Prog and various other experimental genres, TILINTETGJORT was formed in the early summer of 2020 by Oslo-based musicians Den Gamle and Hazzlegard on guitars, and Sturt on bass.  With Tybalt on drums and Svik on vocals joining shortly thereafter, the band became a fully-fledged five piece, working on their music, and making their live debut.

Undergoing gruelling rehearsals and an arduous creative process, TILINTETGJORT honed in on their unique take on Black Metal, meticulously crafting their material until they were finally ready to begin recording.

Favouring some older techniques, the vast majority of “In Death I Shall Arise”  was recorded live over  a period of three days.  After a few overdubs in Evil Octopus Studios, the album was mixed at Chaka Khan before being mastered by Jack Control of Enormous Door.

The ensuing album  is focused and inspired, with TILINTETGJORT displaying  an abundance of creativity and a desire to break down the walls of a genre that is largely stagnating. Dark Essence Records will kick off 2023 with the release of “Avstand”, the fourth full-length album from Norwegian Heavy Rockers SLEGEST, and, whilst fans are waiting for the 20th January so that they can get their hands on it, the label has today released a new single from the album, together with an accompanying video.

“Forløysning og Rus” is the track that has been chosen, and its title and content have a particular significance for the band, as they explain:

“Forløysning og Rus” means “redemption and intoxication”, two important components in SLEGEST. The song bursts with energy and nasty riffs, and can easily be played at maximum volume.

The single “Forløysning og Rus” can be streamed or downloaded from a number of services at

https://link.darkessencerecords.no/Slegest_Forloysning-og-rus

Whilst the video, which was filmed  by Håvard Nesbø and is shot at an abandoned farm and an old house of worship in the band’s hometown of Leikanger, can be seen below.

Formed  in 2010 by guitarist and vocalist Ese, SLEGEST started life as a solo project and it wasn’t until 2013 that it evolved into a recording and live band.  Aside from Ese, today’s lineup comprises Sør on guitars, Hövard on bass, and the newly announced drummer Chris.  In fact, it is the arrival of Chris, whose previous experience playing live with the band has stood him in good stead, has proved to be significant for SLEGEST in that “Avstand” is the first album on which Ese does not play drums himself.

Known for their no-nonsense, head banging heavy rock,  “Avstand”  marks a change to SLEGEST’s hard-hitting heavy metal sound.  It is still very much SLEGEST, with its trademark Black Metal and Classic 70’s and 80’s heavy rock overtones, but this time the band has chosen to freshen things up by upping the tempo a bit.

Inspired by Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy, “Avstand”  was mixed by Herbrand Larsen at the Conclave & Earshot Studio, and mastered by Iver Sandøy at the Duper/Solslottet Studio, both in Bergen.  With artwork by Tom Korsvold, “Avstand” Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Innsikt
2. Evigheit på Evigheit
3. Forløysning og Rus
4. Vinterkristus
5. Gåte
6. Er det deg Livet?
7. Til det Største som Finst
8. Oh Baby (Status Quo cover)

“Avstand” will be available in CD, Vinyl and Digital formats and is now available to pre-order from

https://link.darkessencerecords.no/Slegest_Avstand

SLEGEST are set to join KAMPFAR on a series of dates in Norway during January and February.  Routing is as follows:

Having recently announced the much-anticipated new album from SLEGEST, Dark Essence Records have revealed a first glimpse into the kind of no-nonsense Heavy Rock that fans have come to expect from the band, and that which, on their latest full-length “Avstand”, is there in spades.

The first dip into the album comes, in fact, in the form of both a single, and a video for the opening track “Innsikt”, which is a heavy, huge, straight forward, and frankly unstoppable piece that was written during the winter of 2021 in the midst of the sublime wilderness of Western Norway. As the band explains:

The universal truths that life and the world is built upon, can best be discovered and described via the language of fine arts, not via the rational language of science and mathematics nor the Christian perspective for that matter. “Innsikt” means insight. This one is for following the natural, untamed and instinctive life force, and for not suppressing it. Play loud!

The single “Innsikt” can be downloaded or streamed from a variety of services at https://link.darkessencerecords.no/Slegest_Innsikt

Whilst the video can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/Cz87lUFTGRI

Inspired by Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy, “Avstand”, the band’s fourth full-length album, is unmistakably SLEGEST doing what SLEGEST does best, but this time they have upped the tempo a bit, giving a freshness and originality to their hard-hitting heavy metal sound which is imbued with Black Metal and classic 70’s and 80’s heavy rock.

With artwork by Tom Korsvold, “Avstand” was mixed by Herbrand Larsen at the Conclave & Earshot Studio and mastered by Iver Sandøy at the Duper/Solslottet Studio, both in Bergen. Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Innsikt
2. Evigheit på Evigheit
3. Forløysning og Rus
4. Vinterkristus
5. Gåte
6. Er det deg Livet?
7. Til det Største som Finst

Fans of Norway’s SLEGEST have been waiting a while for a new dose of the band’s Black Metal-tinged Heavy Rock, four years to be precise, but they need wait no more, because on the 20th of January 2023 Dark Essence Records will release the band’s fourth full-length album “Avstand”.

Formed back in 2010 by Ese, SLEGEST started out as a solo project, with a debut release in the form of a self-titled EP. But all that changed in 2013 when Ese signed with Dark Essence Records and put together a live lineup, which, with Ese on guitar and vocals, Sør on guitars, Hövard on bass and Fjøsne on drums, cemented SLEGEST’s reputation as a no-nonsense heavy rock band.

There followed three full-length albums of hard-hitting heavy metal whose Black Metal and classic 70’s and 80’s heavy rock roots couldn’t be denied. And now they’re back, with “Avstand” an album inspired by Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy. With a title that means “Distance” the songs explore the eternal and infinite. A view of life from within, you could say. with the self-conscious, the rational and the dream state, weighed against the instinctive, euphoric and the natural aspects of your life, and begging the question “which side exactly do you come down on?”

As Ese explains:

Musically, we are staying the course. We operate well within the framework we have created for ourselves on our past albums, whilst, at the same time, we’ve upped the tempo a bit this time around. By doing this, our sound clearly has quite a traditional streak, but I´m confident that our take on metal offers something different. Our goal, of course, is, that in the final reckoning, our material proves to be truly awesome and sinister sounding!

With artwork by Tom Korsvold, “Avstand” was recorded at the Polyfon Studio with Leif Herland behind the desk, and was mixed by Herbrand Larsen at the Conclave & Earshot Studio and mastered by Iver Sandøy at the Duper/Solslottet Studio, all in Bergen.

“Avstand” will be available in CD, Vinyl and Digital formats and tracklisting is as follows:

1. Innsikt
2. Evigheit På Evigheit
3. Forløysning Og Rus
4. Vinterkristus
5. Gåte
6. Er Det Deg Livet?
7. Til Det Største Som Finst
8. Oh Baby (Status Quo cover)

So, what else can fans expect from SLEGEST going forward? Well, live dates for sure, and a tour, details of which will be announced shortly.  And also, a change to the lineup that has remained constant since the band’s early days, with drummer Chris taking over from Fjøsne, a change which, according to the band, has also meant a different approach to the recording of “Avstand”:

With Fjøsne having been our live drummer, Ese has always played the drums on our recordings, so “Avstand” is the first album on which he does not play the drums himself. Chris has been around the band for some time and has played live for us on one European tour, so he knows all about the SLEGEST ethos. He did a really good job with the drums for the album, and it was natural that he should also handle the live part in the future. So, we would like to welcome him to the band, and at the same time thank Fjøsne for all the good times and all the work he put into SLEGEST.

Fans of US Total Occultic Mechanical Blasphemers T.O.M.B, have today been given the chance to hear a second track from the band’s upcoming album “Terror Winds”, which is due for release on Dark Essence Records on the 2nd December.

The title of the single, “Hatred to All”  is a clear indication of the thoughts and emotions that lie behind the track, as T.O.M.B explain:

“Hatred to All”  is an anthem to those visions and values that shaped the foundation of early 90’s black metal.  With a ruthless rabid intent, the malice behind the music of the song embodies acts of aggression without borders.  It embraces a freedom of unrestrained anger and ill will toward everyone and everything regardless of gender, race, religion, moral beliefs or political stances.

“Hatred to All” can be downloaded or streamed from a number of services at https://link.darkessencerecords.no/TOMB_Hatred-to-All

As well as below and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/QWk7SBndt-o

A follow up to 2020’s “The Thin Veil”,  T.O.M.B’s latest album “Terror Winds”, is the  seventh full-length release from a band known for its exploration of esoteric matters  such as death, paranormal activity and occult practices, and who, with over twenty years of making music, have created a sound that combines Black Metal with elements of  Dark Ambient, Doom, Death, Industrial and Power Electronics.

Bringing all their experience to bear  on “Terror Winds”, T.O.M.B have created an album that has the authentically dangerous feel of early 90s Black Metal.  Combine that with a powerful wave of ambient keyboards and classic T.O.M.B. noise, and you have an album filled with symphonic ambience and necromantic noise soundscapes. It is both horrific and spellbinding in a way that only a band with the  reputation as one of the top innovators in the field of modern-day Black Metal can produce.

With a lineup that includes No-One, B. Zimimay, Tyler B and Samantha Viola, “Terror Winds” was recorded live at the Ossuary Studios in New York City and mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studios in Sweden.

With  artwork by Nestor Avalos, tracklisting for “Terror Winds” is as follows:

1. Terror Winds
2. In the Ugly Dark
3. Wraiths
4. Hatred to All
5. Frost Tyrants
6. Reincarnation

“Terror Winds” will be available in CD, LP and Digital formats, and is now available to pre-order from:

US Total Occultic Mechanical Blasphemers T.O.M.B, are back with their seventh full-length  album which is due to hit the streets on the 2nd December.  Titled “Terror Winds”, the album is a follow up to 2020’s “The Thin Veil”, which marked the beginning of the legendary band’s collaboration with Norway’s Dark Essence Records.

It is an album imbued with spellbinding symphonic ambience and necromantic noise soundscapes  that sees T.O.M.B return to their graveyard roots of old, raw Black Metal.  And today, Dark Essence Records have released the track “In The Ugly Dark”  from the album, which, according to the band serves as a very apt window into the heart of “Terror Winds” Itself, as they explain:

“In the Ugly Dark” serves as a introduction to the fierce song writing style representative throughout the new six song album. Its scorching guitar sound and barbaric drum beats coincide with the concept of a darkness unknown or experienced within the limitations of human existence.

It is an experience that will transport the listener back to the glory days of extreme dangerous black metal.

“In the Ugly Dark” can be downloaded or streamed from a number of services at https://link.darkessencerecords.no/TOMB_In_The_Ugly_Dark

As well as on YouTube at https://youtu.be/qqqaCFRzzZM

“Terror Winds”  carries with it the authentically dangerous feel of early 90s Black Metal, combined with a powerful wave of ambient keyboards and classic T.O.M.B. noise.  Recorded live at the Ossuary Studios in New York City and mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studios in Sweden, and with artwork by Nestor Avalos, tracklisting for “Terror Winds” is as follows:

1. Terror Winds
2. In the Ugly Dark
3. Wraiths
4. Hatred to All
5. Frost Tyrants
6. Reincarnation

“Terror Winds” will be available in CD, LP and Digital formats, and is now available to pre-order from:

The history of T.O.M.B. spans over two decades,  since 1998, in fact, when, inspired by bands such as ABRUPTUM, HAVOHEJ, SAMAEL and SUNNO))), musicians No-One, B. Zimimay, Tyler B and Samantha Viola first got together to form the entity that would become T.O.M.B. Together they would astonish fans with a trademark sound that would prove to be be both horrific, and, at the same time, hypnotically spell-binding.

Dealing with esoteric matters  such as death, paranormal activity and occult practices, T.O.M.B. has used its twenty plus years of experience well,  with the band able to hone its ability to craft a sound that combines Black Metal with elements of  Dark Ambient, Doom, Death, Industrial and Power Electronics. The end result is a unique brand of terrifying black metal noise that has earned T.O.M.B. the reputation as one of the top innovators in the field of modern-day Black Metal.

On the 7th October, Dark Essence Records will release the album “Sverger Hemn” from BLODHEMN, the project from multi-instrumentalist Invisus that sees the Norwegian musician  apply his trademark aggressive sound to what will be BLODHEMN’s fourth full-length album. Only this time he has expanded that sound to produce an album that mixes Black Metal and Thrash with a well-judged serving of Rock’n’Roll.

And, whilst waiting for “Sverger Hemn” to hit the streets, fans can hear a second track from the album, courtesy of Dark Essence Records, who have today released the single “Velg Din Gift”, which can be downloaded or streamed from a variety of services at:

https://link.darkessencerecords.no/Blodhemn_Velg_Din_Gift

Or alternatively on YouTube below and at https://youtu.be/L_9AvbGPRnw

About the track, Invisus had this to say:

“Velg Din Gift” is loosely based on the quote “find what you love and let it kill you”, or, pick your favourite poison so to speak. A rock n’ roll fuelled track about self-destruction and hell raising!”

On “Sverger Hemn” Invisus draws  his inspiration from the area of Norway he knows best – Holmengraa on the island of Fedje.  Indeed, both visually and musically the material on the album is a natural progression from BLODHEMN’s previous releases, and explores aspects of being taken by the sea and of drowning.

Whilst, with his use of different kinds of vocals and keyboards in order to explore various elements,  Invisus has, without a doubt, left his comfort zone on a couple of the tracks on “Sverger Hemn”, he has ensured that BLODHEMN still remains true to the essence of Black Metal on an album that has been a long-time in the making.

Once again Invisus plays every single instrument and handles the vocals on “Sverger Hemn”, with the drums being recorded in 2020 at the Conclave & Earshot Studio, and the rest of the instruments and vocals recorded at the Over Evne Studio.  BORKNAGAR’s Øystein G. Brun handled the mixing and mastering which was done at  the  Crosound Studio.

With artwork by Misantropic Art, tracklisting for ” Sverger Hemn” is as follows:

  1. Fraa Djupet…
  2. Vil Livet av Deg
  3. Bomb Bergen
  4. Farvel Feioey
  5. Opp or Lemmen
  6. Velg Din Gift
  7. Tid

“Sverger Hemn” will be available in CD, Digital and Limited Edition Transparent Blue Vinyl formats, and is now available to pre-order from:

Whilst Norway  is, without a doubt, the spiritual home of Black Metal bands, when applying the term “bands” it is very easy to forget that some of those “bands” quite often involve only one musician, and that these musicians are invariably multi-instrumentalists, who rely solely on themselves to create the concept. and write and perform the material in the studio.

One such artist is Invisus, who, since forming BLODHEMN in 2004, and over three full-length albums, has perfected his approach to Black Metal,  with a concept that utilises to perfection that distinctive and aggressive BLODHEMN sound, so integral to the genre.

However, on “Sverger Hemn”, BLODHEMN’s upcoming fourth album, Invisus takes the opportunity to step out of his comfort zone.  That’s not to say that he strays far from his trademark icy, aggressive sound, far from it, because he remains true to the heart of his music, whilst, at the same time, using different kinds of vocals and keyboards in order to experiment and explore various elements on a couple of the tracks.   The result is an album that is an exhilarating mix of Black Metal and Thrash, seasoned with Rock’n’Roll.

With “Sverger Hemn” set for release on Dark Essence Records on the 7th October, the label has released a single from the album in order to whet the appetite of fans who have been waiting a long time for BLODHEMN’s latest release.

The track, “Fraa Djupet…”, which Invisus explains “takes you into the distressed scenario of fighting the storms and waves to stay afloat. From the depths the undead reap…“, can be streamed or downloaded from various services at https://link.darkessencerecords.no/FraaDjupet

As well as on YouTube below and at https://youtu.be/oJ_-0uPMl6g

“Sverger Hemn” is an album that took a long time to write and produce, and observant fans of BLODHEMN’s music will notice that musical and visual threads from previous releases progress naturally into the new material.  Indeed, much of Invisus’ vision draws inspiration from, and is centred on, the area around Holmengraa on the island of Fedje in Norway,  and, not unnaturally, explores aspects of drowning and  being taken by the sea.
