DARK ESSENCE RECORDS WELCOMES ALFAHANNE BACK INTO THE FOLD

Dark Essence Records, the label that gave the Swedish Rockers their recording start back in 2014, have welcomed ALFAHANNE back into the fold, something the band is more than happy about:

ALFAHANNE is back where it all started at Dark Essence. We got side-tracked but now we are right back on track and where we belong. It feels so great to be on Dark Essence again – to be part of their roster, and we couldn’t be more pleased about this. Everyone at the label has always felt like friends and we enjoyed working with them on the release of our first two albums, and will enjoy working with them again on the release of our fifth. So now let the darkness begin…

When ALFAHANNE burst onto the scene in 2010 their minds were fully set on bringing the danger back to rock n roll. Playing what they call “Alfapocalyptic Rock”, ALFAHANNE mixes Black Metal with Classic Rock and Punk, and good old Rock n Roll, creating their own style of music. A style that has earned them plaudits from critics and fans alike.

With a lineup comprising Pehr Skjoldhammer on guitars and vocals, Fredrik Sööberg on guitars, Jimmy Wiberg on bass, Niklas Åström on drums, and Stefan Eriksson on keyboards, ALFAHANNE’s stage debut came at 2014’s Inferno Metal Festival where their show garnered them high praise.

Since then, their high energy, exuberance, and easy going, friendly interaction with the fans (both on and off the stage) make them guaranteed crowd pleasers and much in demand for club and festival appearances.

The band’s popularity is not limited to fans, as the list of guests of the ALFAHANNE’s previous albums demonstrates. A list that fans of extreme genres will find mouth-watering and that includes fellow Dark Essence artists Hoest (TAAKE) and V’gandr (HELHEIM), as well as other titans of the Scandinavian scene such as Dolk (KAMPFAR), Erlend Hjelvik (KVELERTAK), Spellgoth (HORNA, TURMION KÄTILÖT), Nattfursth (SORHIN), David Lindh (YVONNE and BRODER DANIEL), Sanrabb (GEHENNA) and Niklas Kvarforth (SHINING).

With work progressing on their fifth studio album, ALFAHANNE had this to say about what fans could expect:

ALFAHANNE have already been confirmed to appear at Steelfest Open Air in Finland and Rock Away Winter in Borås, Sweden, in May, the Spetakkel Festivalen in Larvik, Norway in September, and the Eindhoven Metal Meeting in the Netherlands in December.

NEW SINGLE REVEALED FROM UPCOMING VESTINDIEN ALBUM

With the release the of the single “Meldrøye”, taken from VESTINDIEN’s debut full-length album “Null” , Dark Essence Records have revealed another tantalising glimpse into what fans can expect to hear from a band whose initial brief foray into the music scene generated a considerable amount of interest thanks to their frenetic live shows, and enthusiastically received 2011 EP “We are the Lords of Hellfire”.

“Meldrøye”, about which VESTINDIEN say “Exploring and expanding one’s mind is crucial to help us understand that we are not placed above nature. We are nature”, can be streamed or downloaded from various services at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Vestindien_Meldroye

Despite having garnered a substantial following for themselves, VESTINDIEN called it a day seven years ago, and, for reasons known only to themselves, had remained silent. Until now, that is, with the band’s original lineup of Torjus Slettsnok on vocals, Simon Skøien on guitars, Karl Johan Johannessen on drums and Pål Eirik Veseth on bass, storming back, having replaced their classic 90’s hardcore sound, with its heavy metal twist, with one that embodies the essence of Black Metal, Punk and Old School rock’n’roll.

The result of this new direction is a more introverted and less aggressive approach to music, resulting in “Null”, an album which still subtly hints at VESTINDIEN’s hardcore roots, but whose songs are dark, desperate and desolate, with some hard-hitting punches of energy and groove.

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS REVEALS VESTINDIEN ALBUM DETAILS AND NEW SINGLE

Having created a substantial following for themselves, due in part to the release of the 2011 EP “We are the Lords of Hellfire”, and in part to the band’s frenetic live shows and the notoriety of having named themselves after the last surviving brothel in Bergen (now a museum) VESTINDIEN, for reasons unknown, decided to call it a day.

But, seven years later, some of the original members got together and decided that the time was right to start making music again. Gone was VESTINDIEN’s classic 90’s hardcore sound, with its heavy metal twist, to be replaced by one that embodies the essence of Black Metal, Punk and Old School rock’n’roll.

It was a sound that intrigued Dark Essence Records enough to sign VESTINDIEN, and plan the release of the band’s debut full-length album “Null”. An album in which hints of the band’s hardcore roots are still subtly present, but whose songs are dark, desperate and desolate, and which also include hard-hitting punches of energy and groove.

Lydia Laska hail from Stavanger and Oslo, Norway. Forming in 2002, its members come from a diverse musical background, including (but certainly not limited to) the early black metal scene as well as prog/krautrock, punk, and good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll. The band’s recorded debut came in 2006 with the White Trash Attack EP, and was followed by two more EPs – We’re Nothing Compared to Ourselves (2007) and Could I Have a Go On Your Girl, Please? (2009) – but it wasn’t until their debut album in 2010, Krankenhaus, where the Lydia Laska aesthetic truly took flight. A devilishly dark, boldly bewildering, but above all perversely catchy sound emerged, drawing in such disparate influences as the Velvet Underground, Faust, David Bowie, Royal Trux, The Stooges, and old-school black metal. Not long after its release, Krankenhaus went on to be critically acclaimed and served as an admitted prime influence for fellow hybrid-benders Kvelertak. Continuing that momentum, Lydia Laska soon became notorious for their chaotic live shows – to the point where they actually had to stop playing gigs since they were generally banned from most venues.

With the stage thus set, anticipation is high for Lydia Laska‘s long-awaited second album. Fittingly titled Ego Death, this is the sound of Lydia Laska becoming both brasher and smoother, rougher and more come-hither, swaggering and silky: a truly unique sound that can take over both radio and squats alike. Indeed, life has been that much rougher since the release of Krankenhaus, and the band’s sonic influences are even more varied and violent this time. Knowing beforehand that the stakes were high, Lydia Laska chose to record Ego Death with esteemed producer Emil Nikolaisen (Årabrot, Todd Rundgren, Serena-Maneesh).

What results is an even-more-kaleidoscopic stroll through the gutter, even for those already well versed in Lydia Laska‘s mischievous ways. Each of the ten tracks across Ego Death could be a radio hit in the own right…if the radio station was entrenched in the darkest, dingiest sewer and was playing warring factions simultaneously. And yet, for however schizophrenic Ego Death might sound on the surface, beneath that surface is an entirely earnest and completely composed method to the mayhem. Each hook shimmers and stabs, but always with the target being both one’s ears and heart; it’s ridiculously difficult to get these songs outta your head. Nikolaisen’s production no doubt aids in Lydia Laska‘s earworming nature here, with the soundfield finding a strange – and strangely alluring – balance between shambling and stately, regal and righteously ripped. It is, ultimately, the epitome of an Ego Death.

So, are you prepared for Lydia Laska and that very Ego Death? Will you step forward into the gutter, only to be splashed with sonic slime that will never wash off? Questions, questions…

Drawing their inspiration from everything from astronauts lost in space to old video games, Norway’s DOBBELTGJENGER was formed in the musical cradle that is Bergen in 2015. The band features an experienced and skilled lineup of musicians that include Sondre Veland (MAJOR PARKINSON, OSSICLES) on drums, Jakob Sønnesyn (DEPRESNO, 9 GRADER NORD) on bass, Vegard Wikne (OCEAN OF LOTION) on guitars and vocals, and Knut Martin Rasmussen Langeland on guitar.

Whilst the DOBBELTGJENGER ‘s 2016 debut album “When I’ve Gone to Space” was heavily influenced by progressive rock and elements of jazz and psychedelia, “Limbohead” represents a shift away from a narrow psychedelic expression towards a more eclectic sound. The end result is described by the band as a “punk-inspired, and more hands-on, record” replete with explosive stoner riffs and electric slide-guitars.

Lyrically, “Limbohead” recounts tales of deep-rooted neuroticism, a sort of colourful tapestry of an anxious reality, where doors are locked, in order to shut out the dangerous conspiracies of the world. But whilst the subject matter is serious, DOBBELTGJENGER are all about bringing back the groove and the fun to genres that sometimes take themselves a tad too seriously by using contagious grooves, a futuristic guitar sound, and soulful rock vocals that alternate between vulnerable falsettos, punkish screams and rhythmic narratives.

Norway’s KARISMA RECORDS have announced their first signing of the year, and, in keeping with the label’s reputation for finding the best amongst the nascent talent on the Norwegian scene, they have inked a deal with DOBBELTGJENGER, who, according to the band themselves, play “paranoid, dark and catchy rock”.

Commenting on their joining forces with Karisma, DOBBELTGJENGER had this to say: “We are very pleased to have signed with Karisma Records. Formed in 2015 in the rainy streets of Karisma’s home town of Bergen, DOBBELTGJENGER’s lineup of Sondre Veland (MAJOR PARKINSON, OSSICLES) on drums, Jakob Sønnesyn (DEPRESNO, 9 GRADER NORD) on bass, Vegard Wikne (OCEAN OF LOTION) on guitars and vocals, and Knut Martin Rasmussen Langeland on guitar, draw their inspiration from everything from old videogames, to their own neuroticism, to bands like QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, THE MARS VOLTA and RADIOHEAD.

DOBBELTGJENGER’s debut full-length album, “When I’ve Gone to Space” appeared in late 2016, and whilst this first album is heavily influenced by progressive rock and elements of jazz and psychedelia, the follow up album, which the band are currently working on, and which is expected to be released in 2018, marks a noticeable shift away from a purely psychedelic expression and towards a more varied and, as the band mentioned previously, punk-inspired direction. It’s a direction in which allows DOBBELTGJENGER to explore paranoid and angular mind games through the use of explosive stoner riffs and electric slide-guitars.

ALFAHANNE SIGNS BOOKING DEAL WITH PITCH & SMITH

ALFAHANNE, who recently inked a deal with Indie Recordings for the release of their third full-length album “Det Nya Svarta”, set to hit the streets on the 7th April, have signed a booking deal with the international booking agency Pitch & Smith. With offices in the UK and Sweden, Pitch & Smith, who represent artists from across the globe throughout Europe, the UK, Asia and Australasia, is one more step forward for the dynamic foursome who aim to bring back a sense of danger to Rock n Roll with their self-styled brand of “Alfapokalyptic Rock”.

Commenting on the new collaboration ALFAHANNE had this to say: “Despite the fact that we cut our teeth in bands like VINTERLAND and MAZE OF TORMENT, which are essentially what you would class as bands on the “extreme” end of the musical spectrum, ALFAHANNE has proved to be a totally different beast. When we started out, our audience was, not unexpectedly, drawn mainly from the Black Metal scene, but the more we became known, and especially the more we played live, it became obvious that ALFAHANNE’s appeal was much wider and we found that we were attracting all kinds of fans.

“And that is absolutely what we wanted. We didn’t want people to listen to us because we were this kind of band or that kind of band, but because we were ALFAHANNE and because we had something that struck a chord with their individual musical tastes. That’s why we are so excited to be working with Pitch & Smith and why we think they are the natural choice for us. Not only were the guys we will be working with born and raised in the same town as us, which means that they understand what we come from and where we want to head, but, more importantly, the nature of their agency means we are not going to be tagged as just another “metal” band – they are going to help us bring our music to a much wider audience. And what band doesn’t want that?”

The band’s lineup of Pehr Skjoldhammer on Vocals and Guitar, Fredrik Sööberg on Guitars, Niklas Åström on Drums and Jimmy Wiberg on Bass, have a good decade of experience under their belts, and it’s an experience that enables ALFAHANNE to produce the kinds of albums and stage performances that have garnered them a faithful, and ever-increasing fan base, as well as a plethora of well-known artists making guest appearances on their albums or live on stage .

ALFAHANNE’s new album “Det Nya Svarta” was recorded at the Dödskult studio by Alfahanne’s Pehr Skjoldhammer and mixed and mastered by Stamos Koliousis. Following the ALFAHANNE tradition of including some high profile guests on their releases “Det Nya Svarta” includes performances from KAMPFAR’s Dolk, David Lindh from YVONNE AND BRODER DANIEL, Sanrabb from GEHENNA and Nadine Skjoldhammer. ALFAHANNE REVEAL ARTWORK AND DETAILS OF UPCOMING SOPHOMORE FULL-LENGTH ALBUM

Thanks to a very popular competition run by the band and their label Dark Essence Records, fans of Sweden’s “Alfapokalyptic Rockers” ALFAHANNE will all be aware by now that the band who managed to attract the likes of TAAKE’s Hoest, SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth and HELHEIM’s V’gandr to guest on their debut album, have managed to pull some more significant guests out of the hat for their upcoming sophomore full-length album “Blod Eld Alfa”, which is scheduled for release on the 11th September. Joining them this time out will be KVELERTAK frontman Erlend Hjelvik, Spellgoth from HORNA and TURMION KÄTILÖT, and Nattfursth from SORHIN. SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth, with whom ALFAHANNE has a history of collaboration, also makes a return appearance.

The nine-track “Blod Eld Alfa” was mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen at Bergen’s Earshot Studios, and features ALFAHANNE’s trademark high-energy mix of Black Metal, Punk, Classic Rock and New Wave – elements that combine together to create a unique sound full of the swagger and attitude that makes the band such a success both in the studio and on the stage.
