A
Lydia Laska
hail from Stavanger and Oslo, Norway. Forming in 2002, its members come from a diverse musical background, including (but certainly not limited to) the early black metal scene as well as prog/krautrock, punk, and good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll. The band’s recorded debut came in 2006 with the White Trash Attack EP, and was followed by two more EPs – We’re Nothing Compared to Ourselves (2007) and Could I Have a Go On Your Girl, Please? (2009) – but it wasn’t until their debut album in 2010, Krankenhaus, where the Lydia Laska aesthetic truly took flight. A devilishly dark, boldly bewildering, but above all perversely catchy sound emerged, drawing in such disparate influences as the Velvet Underground, Faust, David Bowie, Royal Trux, The Stooges, and old-school black metal. Not long after its release, Krankenhaus went on to be critically acclaimed and served as an admitted prime influence for fellow hybrid-benders Kvelertak. Continuing that momentum, Lydia Laska soon became notorious for their chaotic live shows – to the point where they actually had to stop playing gigs since they were generally banned from most venues.

With the stage thus set, anticipation is high for Lydia Laska‘s long-awaited second album. Fittingly titled Ego Death, this is the sound of Lydia Laska becoming both brasher and smoother, rougher and more come-hither, swaggering and silky: a truly unique sound that can take over both radio and squats alike. Indeed, life has been that much rougher since the release of Krankenhaus, and the band’s sonic influences are even more varied and violent this time. Knowing beforehand that the stakes were high, Lydia Laska chose to record Ego Death with esteemed producer Emil Nikolaisen (Årabrot, Todd Rundgren, Serena-Maneesh).

What results is an even-more-kaleidoscopic stroll through the gutter, even for those already well versed in Lydia Laska‘s mischievous ways. Each of the ten tracks across Ego Death could be a radio hit in the own right…if the radio station was entrenched in the darkest, dingiest sewer and was playing warring factions simultaneously. And yet, for however schizophrenic Ego Death might sound on the surface, beneath that surface is an entirely earnest and completely composed method to the mayhem. Each hook shimmers and stabs, but always with the target being both one’s ears and heart; it’s ridiculously difficult to get these songs outta your head. Nikolaisen’s production no doubt aids in Lydia Laska‘s earworming nature here, with the soundfield finding a strange – and strangely alluring – balance between shambling and stately, regal and righteously ripped. It is, ultimately, the epitome of an Ego Death.

So, are you prepared for Lydia Laska and that very Ego Death? Will you step forward into the gutter, only to be splashed with sonic slime that will never wash off? Questions, questions…

Sweden’s “Alfapokalyptic Rockers” ALFAHANNE, whose third full-length album “Det Nya Svarta” is set for release on Indie Recordings in April have today revealed another track from the album via a lyric video by Marcelo Vasco Arts .  The track, ” Avgrundsgravitation”  features guest vocals by  DAVID LINDH of SOOT & FLOOD, YVONNE and  BRODER DANIEL is premiering exclusively on Ghost Cult magazine at http://www.ghostcultmag.com/exclusive-video-premiere-alfahanne-avgrundsgravitation/

ALFAHANNE’s lineup of Pehr Skjoldhammer on Vocals and Guitar, Fredrik Sööberg on Guitars, Niklas Åström on Drums, and Jimmy Wiberg on Bass,  came together to form the band in Eskilstuna, Sweden, in 2010. With considerable experience gained in bands such  as VINTERLAND and early MAZE OF TORMENT,  and with an abundance of energy and exuberance, ALFAHANNE hit the ground running with their debut full-length album “Alfapokalyps”, which  appeared on Dark Essence Records in 2014 and  was followed by “Blod Eld Alfa” in 2015.

With their impressive, and totally likeable,  swagger, and their natural affinity for making friends with their fans, ALFAHANNE’s growing reputation as a dynamic live act, coupled with a sound that they describe as “Alfapokalyptic Rock”, which mixes Black Metal with Classic Rock and Punk, and good old Rock n Roll, has earned the band an ever-growing army of followers.

Along with winning over their fans, ALFHAHANNE have also earned the respect of established musicians, amongst whom are TAAKE’s Hoest, SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth, HELHEIM’s V’gandr,  KVELERTAK frontman Erlend Hjelvik, Spellgoth from HORNA and TURMION KÄTILÖT, and Nattfursth from SORHIN, all of whom have guested in the studio with the band, and some of whom have also appeared live on stage with them.

In keeping with what has become a tradition of being able to work with some of the best of the best, ALFAHANNE’s new album “Det Nya Svarta” features guest vocals from KAMPFAR’s Dolk, GEHENNA’s Sanrabb and  Nadine Skjoldhammer, as well as the afore-mentioned David Lindh. Recorded at the Dödskult studio by Alfahanne’s Pehr Skjoldhammer and Mixed and mastered by Stamos Koliousis, and with artwork by the Trine + Kim Design Studio, track listing for “Det Nya Svarta” is as follows:

Frontman Skjoldhammer recently explained that with their third full-length album ALFAHANNE are continuing  to explore the dark side of mankind: Alfahanne’s lyrics are very personal and have many layers of dirt. Once you dig deeper into them you find many truths as I see them.  Alfahanne will never lean to the left or to the right or write about political issues. The only political issue that is close to our hearts is equal rights but the flipside of that same coin is that we think everyone is equally…. Equally useless.”

Commenting about ” Avgrundsgravitation”,  Skjoldhammer had this to say:

This one is about falling. When you’re young you have lots of hopes and dreams, but as you get older you realise that they won’t happen.  But you still can’t let them go, s o you just keep thinking that tomorrow will be better ad infinitum.  But the truth is that today’s medication and therapy only makes rock bottom seem further away. You just keep on falling, further and further into the abyss, and the abyss becomes deeper and deeper than you think”.

“Det Nya Svarta”, which will hit the streets on April 7th,  is now available to pre-order in CD and Vinyl formats from http://shop.indierecordings.no/artist/16189–alfahanne and in Digital format from https://alfahanneofsweden.bandcamp.com/album/pre-order-det-nya-svarta

HORNA frontman Spellgoth will be joining KVELERTAK’s  Erlend Hjelvik,  SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth, and SORHIN’s Nattfursth on the upcoming album from Swedish “Alfapokalyptic” Rockers ALFHANNE, who, together with their label Dark Essence Records, have been running a competition over the past couple of months, inviting fans to guess the guests and win a copy of the new album.

“The competition has been a lot of fun for us” commented the band, “and hopefully the fans have enjoyed it too – we’ve certainly been receiving entries from all parts of the world.  Our guests on this album are all from quite different bands, and are are musicians for whom we have a great admiration and we were more than excited when they agreed to perform guest vocals.  From the comments we’ve been getting it seems that the fans feel the same way too.  Obviously we can’t reveal too much about the new album at the moment, except to say that it will be out in September, but Dark Essence Records will be revealing more information soon, and you’ll get a chance to hear something from it too!”

Formed in 2010 ALFAHANNE’s lineup of  Pehr Skjoldhammer on Vocals and Guitar, Fredrik Sööberg on Guitars, Niklas Åström on Drums and Jimmy Wiberg on Bass,  have a good two decades of experience under their belts, having been around the Black Metal scene since the early ‘90’s, in bands like VINTERLAND and early MAZE OF TORMENT.     Their self-styled  “Alfapokalyptic Rock”, which mixes Black Metal with Classic Rock and Punk, combined with their charismatic and high-energy live shows,  has gained the band a legion of fans, both inside and outside of Europe.

ALFAHANNE’s new album will be a follow up to last year’s debut full-length “Alfapokalyps”, which once again featured guest vocals from SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth,  as well as TAAKE’s Hoest and HELHEIM’s V’gandr.    Confirmed live dates for ALFAHANNE as follows:
