Well known for their wide appeal and their entertainingly theatrical, and hugely accessible stage antics, VULTURE INDUSTRIES  recently celebrated their 20 years of existence with a special anniversary show in Bergen,  Norway.  Knowing that only a relative handful of their fans would be able to witness the show first-hand, the band made sure that their many fans world-wide would not miss out on this very special occasion by recording the whole event.

Produced by Jarle Jovda Moe, who also made the “New Lords of Light” video, and featuring a multi camera and multi track production, the show included not only favourites from the band’s previous releases, but also tracks from the upcoming fifth full-length studio album “Ghosts from the Past”. It is, in other words the perfect opportunity for fans old and new to take stock of how far the band  has come over the years and reminisce about the past.

The show, will be streamed in three separate segments, the first being on the 26th May at 20:00 Central European Time, and can be watched on the Band’s YouTube channel  below and at https://youtu.be/t8opjxwtfRU

Parts 2 and 3 of the show will be shown at 20:00 on the 03 June and 10 June respectively.

“Ghosts from the Past” itself will be released on Dark Essence Records on the 16th June, and is easily VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ strongest album to date.  It marks a new direction for the band, one that leans towards the harder side of rock, and draws upon a wide range of influences.  However, the quintessential VULTURE INDUSTRIES sound that makes the band so distinctive is still there for all to hear.

Recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios “Ghosts from the Past” was produced by the band and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street. With album artwork by Kim Holm and artwork for the singles by Costin Chioreanu, track listing is as follows:

  1. New Lords of Light
  2. Saturn Devouring His Young
  3. This Hell is Mine
  4. Deeper
  5. Right Here in the Dark
  6. A Strangers Curse
  7. Tyrants Weep Alone

“Ghosts from the Past” will be released in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats and is now available to pre-order from the foillowing:

Unusually, VULTURE INDUSTRIES lineup has been together since the band’s beginning and comprises Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen on vocals and keys, Eivind Huse on guitars and vocals, Øyvind Madsen on guitars, Kyrre Teigen on bass and vocals, and Tor Helge Gjengedal  on drums.

The band is currently finalising more festival appearances and tour dates, but in the meantime the following shows have been confirmed:

16 Jun – Vaterland, Oslo (NO)
17 Jun – Good Omens, Trondheim (NO)
28/29 Jul – Artmania Festival, Sibiu (RO)

Hot on the heels of the release of the CODE’s latest full-length album “Flyblown Prince”, the genre-defying UK band have come up with an interesting way to look back at their very significant history by  releasing “nrcsss”, a five-track album that they have made available to download and enjoy for free.

As the band explains, “nrcsss” is an acoustic album that takes a retrospective look at each period of CODES’ musical creativity, and is a thank you to the fans who have supported the band over the years:

Whilst not an official entry into the Code canon, ‘nrcsss’ is a sideways acoustic interpretation of a song from each era of Code’s history to date. Getting progressively more oblique as each track passes, it may not always be clear to see the link to the original inspiration, but the signs are there for the discerning listener.

Enjoy these selection of songs for free by way of a thank you for your continued support.

“nrcsss” is available for free download  at  https://codeblackmetal.bandcamp.com/

Track Listing as follows:

  1. Pollen
  2. Teeth
  3. God
  4. Blind
  5. Rat

To appreciate what fans can expect from “nrcsss”,  it is interesting to look back on the history of CODE,  which was formed in London in 2002 from the black ruminations of Aort’s early project, SEASONAL CODE.  Since then the band has drawn a creative line through a series of full-length studio albums starting with the brittle avant-garde of  2005’s “Nouveau Gloaming”, to 2009’s Spellemann-nominated “Resplendent Grotesque”, before moving  on to the mad theatre of 2013’s “Augur Nox”,  and the bleak, anaesthetic wash of 2015’s “mut”.

In 2015 CODE also released a savage live tour recording, whilst 2017 saw the appearance of two EP’s “Lost Signal”, which was largely a live re-forging of the material from a new perspective, and “Under the Subgleam”  which served as a hint at what would eventually develop in  today’s “Flyblown Prince”.

Which brings us to June 2021 and the release of CODE’s fifth full-length album.  Released on Dark Essence Records “Flyblown Prince”  is a perverse fairy tale of an album that guides its listeners through the twists and turns of a dark and ghoulish nightmare fantasy of cinematic proportions.

With a lineup on “Flyblown Prince” that includes Aort on Guitars, Lordt on Drums, Syhr on Bass and Wacian on Vocals, with guitarist Andras providing support on the recordings, CODE have succeeded in creating  an ever-shifting soundscape of moods and violent aggression.  It is a progressive album, both musically and technically, and one the likes of which hasn’t been heard in years, and is, quite possibly,  the most intense and extreme album the band has ever produced.

Cover  art for “Flyblown Prince”  is by Kristina Pavleska, layout by Costin Chioreanu and photography by Julie Cottrell, and the album is available in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats from all the usual retailers and streaming services, as well as directly from Dark Essence Records at:

Bandcamp:  https://codeblackmetal.bandcamp.com/album/flyblown-prince

Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Flyblown Prince
2. Clemency & Atropy
3. By the Charred Stile
4. Rat King
5. From the Next Room
6. Dread Stridulate Lodge
7. Scold’s Bride
8. The Mad White Hair

To celebrate the 11th Anniversary of its original release, Dark Essence Records is set to make  “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register”, the sophomore full-length album from Norwegian Progressive Metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES, available in vinyl format for the first time ever.

The vinyl edition of “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” has had a complete makeover because, what was meant to be a simple re-mix, produced a master that sounded worse than the original.  The album has therefore been “re-mixed, un-mixed, re-mastered and un-mastered”, in order to meet the exacting standards that VULTURE INDUSTRIES place on themselves.

Originally recorded at the Conclave & Earshot Studios by Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen, and mastered by Brian Gardner (ISIS, NIN, David Bowie), “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” includes guest appearances from  Herbrand Larsen (ex-ENSLAVED / ex-AUDREY HORNE) on Hammond organ, Øyvind Rødset (formerly of UGRESS) on saxophone, Audun Berg Selfjord (FUNIN) on cello and Kristin Hunter (ex-Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra) on viola.

The cover art for “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” is designed by Maja Markegård and features Helge Jordal on the cover, making it the second time that the actor appears on a VULTURE INDUSTRIES release.  One of Norway’s most respected character actors, Jordal’s collaboration with VULTURE INDUSTRIES started when he heard “The Dystopia Journals” and agreed to work with the band.  This time he takes on the guise of the Hangman, brandishing a law book and clutching a noose, in an album that takes a satirical look at the theme of crime and punishment from the perspective of both the criminal and the hangman.

Track listing for “The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” is as follows:

Side A:
Crooks and sinners
Race for the gallows
The bolted door
Of branded blood

Side B:
I hung my heart on Harrow square
This cursed flesh
Hangman’s hatch
Crowning the cycle

With a career spanning over a decade and with hundreds  of shows under their belts, VULTURE INDUSTRIES  are  well known both for the technical skill of their lineup, which comprises Øyvind Madsen and  Eivind Huse on Guitars, Tor Helge Gjengedal on Drums, Kyrre Teigen on Bass and Bjørnar E. Nilsen on Vocals,  and the eccentric and somewhat manic antics of frontman Nilsen, whose on-stage weirdness has garnered a multitude of fans for the band over the years.

“The Malefactor’s Bloody Register” will released on the 5th March 2021 and will be available in red in black coloured vinyl. It can now be pre-ordered from:

Webshop: https://darkessencerecords.no/shop/
Bandcamp: https://vultureindustries.bandcamp.com/album/the-malefactors-bloody-register

Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES are set to release a new single, titled “Deeper”, On Dark Essence Records.   A video for the single, by long-time Romanian artist and long-time collaborator Costin Choireanu, can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/zSz3BIUrjT4

A
“Deeper” tells the story of man’s insatiable greed for more, as symbolised by the miners digging all the way to Hell.  Starting out with a haunting trumpet solo, the track mixes a Spaghetti Western vibe with the rhythmic and melodic drive of a large-scale rock opus. Musically “Deeper» nods in the direction of such diverse acts as Ennio Morricone, Type O Negative, The Beatles and Lee Hazlewood, but at the same time there is also a solid dose of rock and metal, in the signature style of VULTURE INDUSTRIES.

Vulture Industries PR

VULTURE INDUSTRIES frontman, Bjørnar E. Nilsen had this to say about the origins of the song:

It was one of those scorching summer days of 2018. The parched grass had turned the fields the colour of old paper, and the sun, at its zenith, was mercilessly searing our skin. Thirsty, hungry, and with tongues swelling, we had just missed the ferry crossing and could taste our hopes turn to ashes in our mouths. Trying to remain calm, but steadily feeling the building pressure of desperation, as a boiler ready to blow, we waited in line. Then suddenly the one year old in the back seat broke the silence chanting AHUM, AHUM, AHUM, AHUM! Overcome by what felt like divine inspiration but might very well have been sent from the depths of Hell, I started drumming on the dashboard. DUM, DADADUM, DADADUM, DADADUMDADUMDADUM.”

Printed on Limited Edition 7″ green vinyl to coincide with the Strange Rain tour with HELHEIM, MADDER MORTEM and CAELESTIA, which kicks off  on the 25th April, “Deeper” will be out on Digital platforms on the 23rd of April.  Strictly limited to 500 copies, the 7″ also features the a live performance of  “The Benevolent Pawn”  recorded at USF in Bergen.

Bjørnar E. Nilsen, the vocalist of Norwegian Dark Progressive Rockers VULTURE INDUSTRIES suffered a mishap during the band’s concert in Munich this week, when he fell off a stack of beer crates.

The singer, known for his penchant for standing on top of things that were not necessarily built for that particular task had this to say:  “Yeah, I was a bit sloppy with planning the moment.  I’d built a stack of crates from different brands, and needless to say they didn’t lock together properly, so when I tried to climb on top of them the whole thing gave way and the crates fell into the audience”.

A fan watching the spectacle commented: “It was all pretty undramatic really, but it did have a certain slapstick charm to it.  What alarmed me more than being buried under a pile of crates was the smell of that guy’s stage clothes.  With all that running around and sweating he really should get them washed more often.  He stinks!!

VULTURE INDUSTRIES’  fourth full-length album ‘Stranger Times’, which was released on Season of Mist in Digipack CD, Digital and various Vinyl formats on the 22 September,  continues and expands the band’s quest to push the limitations of genre and sound. Their nine new tracks are as easily as masterfully spanning a wide range from dark rock to progressive-experimental metal, while keeping their wild roaming within the boundaries of the band’s unique and bizarre sonic universe. Yet the band manage to harness their bold mix into recognisable structures and meaningful songs throughout that do not shy away from catchiness and, quite importantly, do not fall into the trap of being weird just for the sake of experimentation.

With artwork by Costin Chioreanu, tracklisting on “Stranger Times” is as follows:

1. Tales of Woe (4:37)
2. As the World Burns (5:22)
3. Strangers (7:10)
4. The Beacon (5:35)
5. Something Vile (4:17)
6. My Body, My Blood (2:27)
7. Gentle Touch of a Killer (5:03)
8. Screaming Reflections (5:32)
9. Midnight Draws Near (5:20)

Devar PR1 ronny_a_sangolt

With their long-awaited sophomore full-length album “Mausoleum” due for release on the Gymnocal  Industries label on the 29th September, Norwegian Metallers DEVAR have given fans a second taste of what to expect with the release of the title track in digital format.

DEVAR’s unconventional approach to music draws its influences not only from the Extreme and Black Metal genres, but also from Avant-garde Metal and 70’s Prog.  Matched with a lyrical concept that takes listeners on a journey down the paths of fear, insanity, darkness and death in order to explore the decline of man, the resultant sound is one that is both original and unique.

Both the single “Masoleum”, and the entire album,  were recorded by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, TAAKE, HELHEIM) at the Conclave & Earshot Studios in  Bergen, along with Devar at the Alternate End Studios, and Ottoegil at Internasjonalt Farvann.  “Masoleum” is mixed and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) at the Conclave & Earshot Studios.

Cover art for the single “Masoleum” is by Tom Korsvold, photography is by Ronny A. Sangolt.  It is available in digital format from https://devar.bandcamp.com/track/mausoleum-single as well as from the following:

Devar Single PR

The band was originally formed as a solo project by frontman Devar in 2002, who, upon realising what was needed if he wanted to bring his vision to fruition, put together a full lineup that today consists of Devar on vocals, Obdsaija on  Drums and Percussion, Aadland on  Guitars and Ottoegil on Bass and  Keys.

Since the release of the band’s 2009 full-length debut “Alternate Endings”, “DEVAR” has matured into a more reflective band, and the resultant sophomore album reveals songs that are much more focused and with a more progressive touch.  As with the single, artwork for “Mausoelum” is by Tom Korsvold and photography by Ronny A. Sangolt.  Tracklisiting is as follows:

1. Mausoleum
2. House of Bones
3. Dead End Moon
4. Shadow Straggler
5. Cold black Rain
6. Narcissa Oriane
7. Ashes
8. Dead Wounds

Devar PR

After a lengthy hiatus Norwegian  Metallers  DEVAR are back with “Mausoleum”, a brand new full-length album that showcases to perfection the band’s unconventional  approach to writing and performing, drawing their influence from genres as far apart as Extreme, Black and Avantgarde Metal with a smattering of 70’s Prog Rock.    It’s an eccentric mix, but a highly successful one according to the press,  who variously hailed DEVAR’s  2009 debut album “Alternate Endings” as being “daring”, “original” and packed with “well-crafted songs”.

Originally formed as a solo project by Devar in 2002, it quickly became apparent to him that a full band was needed to fulfil his vision, eventually resulting in today’s lineup, formed of Devar on vocals, Obdsaija on  Drums and Percussion, Aadland on  Guitars and Ottoegil on Bass and  Keys

DEVAR’s return to the studio,  and the resulting “Mausoleum”,  shows a much more mature and reflective band, whose songs are more focused and perhaps have a more progressive edge.  It is an album that takes as its concept the feeling of someone standing on the edge of the end, whilst images of their lifetime flashes through their fractured and declining mind.

“Mausoleum” was recorded by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, TAAKE, HELHEIM) at the Conclave & Earshot  Studios,  by Devar at the Alternate End Studios, and by Ottoegil at Internasjonalt Farvann.  It and was mixed and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) also at the Conclave & Earshot Studios.

With artwork by Tom Korsvold and photography by Ronny A. Sangolt, “Mausoleum” is set for release on the 29th September on Gymnocal Industries in Digipak CD, Gatefold DLP and Digital formats.  Tracklisting for “Mausoleum is as follows:

Their nine new tracks are as easily as masterfully spanning a wide range from dark rock to progressive-experimental metal, while keeping their wild roaming within the boundaries of the band’s unique and bizarre sonic universe. Yet VULTURE INDUSTRIES manage to harness their bold mix into recognisable structures and meaningful songs throughout that do not shy away from catchiness and, quite importantly, do not fall into the trap of being weird just for the sake of experimentation.

With a lineup that comprises Bjørnar E. Nilsen on: vocals, percussion & keyboard, Øyvind Madsen on guitars,  Eivind Huse on guitars and vocals, Kyrre Teigen on bass and vocals and Tor Helge Gjengedal on drums, VULTURE INDUSTRIES had this to say about the newly debuted track:

“This song represents  the rockier side of our new album and is one of my personal favourites. ‘As the World Burns’ deals with the interdependence of extreme world views that need each other to justify their existence – a theme that is quite relevant in our strange and hazy present. Once more we have teamed up with our friend and sixth band member, the brilliant Mr. Costin Chioreanu for a video. Of course, Costin also created the album artwork. These are the first fruits of our continued co-operation and I sincerely promise that there are a lot of more strange harvests to come your way. Take a bite!”

As regards the album itself, frontman Bjørnar E. Nilsen commented:

“Stranger Times” continues  along the path that we started to explore on ‘The Tower’, I proudly believe ‘Stranger Times’ to be standing out as a defining work for us. It bridges the gap between styles that we have touched upon in the past, while at the same  time expands our scope and includes a more solid dose of rock in the mix. To me, it represents our most ‘solid’ album to date and is clearly the best produced one. I am curious to see how our fans will react, but being the kind and intelligent persons that they are, we actually expect a lot of love… and maybe a bit of trash just to remind us that we are mere mortals.”

With artwork by Costin Chioreanu, “Stranger Times” was recorded and mixed by  was Bjørnar E. Nilsen & Edmond Karban at the Conclave & Earshot Studios, Bergen, Norway and mastered by Chris Sansom at  Propeller Mastering, Oslo, Norway.  Guests on the album include Herbrand Larsen  on keyboards (on “Strangers”) and Hans Marius Andersen on trumpet (on “Strangers” and “The Beacon”)
