Formed in Thessaloniki, Greece,  in 2010, and describing their music as “psychoprog black metal” whose sound is “retro, yet modern”,  HAIL SPIRIT NOIR’s lineup includes Haris (KATAVASIA, TRANSCENDING BIZARRE?)  on Synths, Theoharis (TRANSCENDING BIZARRE?, REX MUNDI,) on guitars and vocals, and J Demian (BLACKDRAWN, DOL AMMAD, WARDRUM TRANSCENDING BIZARRE?) on bass and acoustic guitars.

The band will celebrate the release of “Mayhem in Blue” with two shows in Greece, alongside Norwegian Pioneering Experimental Rockers VIRUS.  You can catch them at the Kyttaro Live Club in Athens on the 28th October, and the Eight Ball Live Stage in their home town of Thessaloniki on the 29th October.

BLACK METALLERS ENEPSIGOS REVEAL ARTWORK AND DETAILS OF UPCOMING ALBUM

Formed earlier this year by V.I.T.H.R, otherwise known as Doedsadmiral, the mysterious Norwegian artist behind bands such as NORDJEVEL, SVARTELDER and DOEDSVANGR, and quickly signed by Drakkar Productions, Black Metallers ENEPSIGOS have revealed details of their debut-full length album “Plague of Plagues”, which is expected to hit the streets in January.

Guitars, Bass and Vocals for “Plague of Plagues”  were recorded at Velvet Recording, in Spydeberg, Norway, with engineer Christer Krohg,  whilst the drums were recorded at the Beastcave Studios in Italy.  The eight track album was mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studios in Stockholm, Sweden.

With his almost uncanny skill to draw together musicians from some of the best known Black and Extreme metal bands on the scene, frontman V.I.T.H.R has once again put together an interesting lineup.  This time he has harnessed the talents of Straff (ex SARKOM) on guitars and bass, and Italian drummer Thorns, known for his work with BLUT AUS NORD, DEATHROW, FIDES INVERSA, FROSTMOON ECLISPE and DARVAZA, to name but a few.

Together the trio have created an album that is dark and brutal and with a marked ritualistic atmosphere.   The traditions of early Black Metal are still alive and well in the music of ENEPSIGOS as can be heard from the recently debuted track “Manifestvm” below and at https://soundcloud.com/enepsigos-official/manifestvm

Norwegian Black Metallers NORDJEVEL, whose self-titled debut album released at the start of the year gleaned universal praise from fans and critics alike, have revealed a new video for a track from the album. The name of the track, “Djevelen I Nord”, which features TROLL’s Nagash on guest vocals, means “Devil in the North”, and the video is a visualisation of the theme of the song.  Directed by Marcin Halerz of Red Pig Productions “Djevelen I Nord” can be seen below and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/zS1YAM7KdvQ

NORDJEVEL, which translated means “Northern Devil”, was founded by frontman Doedsadmiral and guitarist Nord. Whilst Doedsadmiral (SVARTELDER, DOEDSVANGR, ENEPSIGOS) himself remains a shadowy figure, whose real identity has never been revealed, there is little doubt that the rest of the band have come with impressive pedigrees.  Nord himself can add FATAL IMPACT, TVANGESTE and BYRDI to his resume, whilst Sweden’s Fredrik Widigs is known the world-over as MARDUK’s drummer. The trio have since been joined by former RAGNAROK bassist DzeptiCunt, completing the lineup which has now become a cohesive, and impressive, force, both in, and out, of the studio.

The band will close the year with a show at the Aalborg Metal Festival in Denmark on the 12th November, and have so far been confirmed for various festivals in 2017 including Blastfest in Bergen, Norway, in February, Eradication Festival in the UK in April, and the Maryland Deathfest in May, which will be the band’s first North American appearance.

BLACK HOLE GENERATOR is the brainchild of VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ frontman Bjørnar E. Nilsen, who also happens to be a prolific producer and one of the people behind the highly successful Norwegian labels Dark Essence Records and Karisma Records.  For “A Requiem for Terra” Nilssen has chosen to use bleak aural landscapes to depict a desolate world, as well as melodies that call to mind the frantic torrent of the abyss, the whole being topped off by his distinctive vocal style.

However, anyone expecting Nilsen to limit himself to the avant-garde tones set b y VULTURE INDUSTRIES will be surprised to find an album that ranges from the doom laden opening title track, to the mesmerizing riffing on the video single “Moloch”,  via the catchy “Beneath a Chemical Sky” to the fierce “Emerging Pantheon”.  Indeed,  “A Requiem for Terra”  is chock-full of superb metal riffing from special guests Arve Isdal (ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE) on guitars, Gjermund Fredheim (TAAKE, ORKAN) who performs lead guitars on three of the tracks, and Dag Terje Andersen who provides additional guitars.

About the debut track itself, Nilsen has this to say: “”Even though it is a quite dynamic track, in my eyes this song represent the more heavy and atmospherical side of this record. It was the first track I finished for the album and it has been with me for years now. I actually wrote two and a half VULTURE INDUSTRIES albums in between demoing and releasing this track. Considering that I still find it an enjoyable listen, I hope others will also find it worthwhile.”

The choice of “Wolf” as the first track from the album to be debuted is explained by founder and frontman Ese:  “Wolf was one of the first songs that surfaced when I started writing material for “Vidsyn” .  It’s adrenalin-charged  and with its loping time signature and riffs this track circles in on its prey like the Canis Lupus itself”.

SLEGEST’s sound owes as much to Black Metal as it does to Heavy Metal, and bands like BLACK SABBATH.  There is a distinct swagger and confidence to the band, the kind that lies at the heart of all things Metal, and SLEGESTS use of superb guitar riffing and great melodies make it stand out from the usual speed merchants.

“Vidsyn”, which features a guest appearance by ENSLAVED’s Grutle Kjellson,  was recorded at the Conclave & Earshot and Systrond Studios,  and was jointly produced by Ese and  Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR), who also mixed the album.  Mastering is by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED).

The cover  of “Vidsyn” once again has its roots in the art of Nikolai Astrup.  The drawing is by Lars Hellebø and the design by Tom Korsvold.   Tracklisting as follows:

SLEGEST  will launch “Vidsyn” with a show at Krøsset in Oslo, on the 12th November,  where they will be joined by ALFAHANNE, and, given the dynamism and sheer entertainment value of the two bands, this will be an evening to remember.

 In December of this year the band will joinSHINING’s 20th Anniversary tour, which also features Dark Essence label mates TAAKE, for a series of European dates.  The prospect of sharing a stage with Niklas Kvarforth and Hoest, widely acknowledged to be two of the most accomplished and exciting front men in extreme metal, would seem daunting to most bands, but judging from the reviews SLEGEST has received for its live performances, and from the number of fans the lineup of Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums, has  picked up following those performances,  this is a band that is more than able to hold its own against the two titans.

Titled “Anti-Cosmic Art” the seven-track album was originally intended to mark the band’s tenth anniversary, but was delayed due to a combination of personal and technical difficulties that often beset bands and skew carefully laid release plans.   Which, as it happens, worked out for the best, because it gave the band time to rethink, and produce an album that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that SARKOM is a long way from being a “one trick pony”, as is often the case on the Black Metal scene.

Featuring guest appearances from ALFAHANNE’s Pehr Skjoldhammer, and guitar virtuosos Ronni Le Tekrø (TNT, ROQUEFIRE) and Peter Huss (SHINING), as well as former SARKOM member Sagstad (TROLLFEST), and with artwork by Spectrvm Lvsitani, tracklisting for “Anti-Cosmic Art” is as follows:

Founder and frontman Unsgaard (SO MUCH FOR NOTHING), Sgt V (ex SVARTTJERN)  on  bass,  Thrawn (ex DØDHEIMSGARD) on guitar  and  Defest (SVARTHAUEG) on drums,  have made full use of the unique, crushingly dark sound that is SARKOM’s trademark, and have come up with an album that ranges from icy, Old School Black Metal , to more experimental tracks.   Brutally catchy, guitar-driven, and featuring blast beats from hell, “Anti-Cosmic Art” demonstrates perfectly that SARKOM have no problems stepping out of their comfort zone, or of appealing to a wider audience.

To  mark the release of “Anti-Cosmic Art” SARKOM will play the following two Norwegian dates:

Fans of  BLACK HOLE GENERATOR have had a long wait since the release of the band’s “Black Karma” MCD – ten years in fact!  But now the wait is over, with the band’s much anticipated debut full-length album “A Requiem for Terra” set to hit the streets on Dark Essence Records on the 18th November in CD, Vinyl and Digital formats.

BLACK HOLE GENERATOR is the project of VULTURE INDUSTRIES front man Bjørnar E. Nilsen, and, given his work schedule, it is hardly surprising that a new album has been so long in the making.  Not only has Nilsen been kept busy with the ever-increasingly successful VULTURE INDUSTRIES, he is also one of Norway’s most noted producers, working with bands such as TAAKE and HELHEIM, as well as owning Bergen’s Conclave and Earshot Studios with ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen and Arve Isdal. Not to mention the fact that he is one of the people behind the burgeoning success of the  Dark Essence Records and Karisma Records labels.

So what exactly can we expect from “A Requiem for Terra”?  Aside from Nilsens’ distinctive and highly charged vocals, “Requiem for Terra” contains enough stand-out riffing to satisfy the souls of any guitar aficionados, with Arve Isdal (ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE) on guitars, Gjermund Fredheim (TAAKE, ORKAN) performing lead guitars on three of the tracks, and additional guitars by Dag Terje Andersen.

The seven-track album  shifts between the bleak aural landscapes that depict a desolate world, and  the frantic torrent of the abyss.  From the doom laden opening title track, to the mesmerizing riffing of “Moloch”,  via the catchy “Beneath a Chemical Sky” to the fierce “Emerging Pantheon”, “A Requiem for Terra” offers the listener a wide dynamic range.

Split releases amongst bands are two-a-penny these days, which is why the new album from two much-talked about new Atmospheric Black Metal bands,  SELVANS and DOWNFALL OF NUR, promises to be something quite different, with the two bands deciding they did not just want to take part in a split release, but wanted it to br a true collaboration in every sense of the word.

Instead  of just producing  their individual recordings in a state of total disconnect, with the bands concerned having only the most basic contact, and often  none at all, as is frequently the norm for split releases, Italy’s SELVANS and Argentina’s DOWNFALL OF NUR, have not only worked together on the overall concept of the album, which simply bears the name of the two bands, they also perform on each others compositions.

The album, which will be released on Avantgarde Music on the 7th November,  takes as its theme that very epitome of the perfect opposites – the Sun and the Moon – and the dualistic nature they represent.  It is a theme  that has been much represented by artists over the ages, and is a favourite topic of conversation of both  scholars and mystics.  According to Avantgarde Music, the album is an opus in four acts, in which SELVANS and DOWNFALL OF NUR give their own interpretation of the theme, each bringing their own indivdual thoughts and sounds, and melding them into a cohesive whole.

Written by SELVANS’ Luca Del Re and DOWNFALL OF NUR’s Antonio Sanna, and with artwork by the Argentinian artist Santiago Caruso, tracklisting for the album is as follows:

SELVANS,  whose lineup comprises Selvans Haruspex on  keyboards, traditional instruments, screams and clean vocals, programming and Sethlans Fulguriator on guitars, bass, clean vocals, was formed from the ashes of DRAUGR, and is a band noted for its ability to combine music, lyrics and aesthetics in such a way as to recreate the folklore of Italy’s ancient peoples.

Instantly snapped up by Avantgarde Music, the  band’s first release was the “Clangores Plenilunio” EP, which also marked the final recorded appearance of co-founder Jonny Morelli, who was tragically killed in a motor bike accident.  The EP was followed by the full-length album “Lupercalia”, which more than fulfilled the faith Avantgarde placed in it.  So much so, in fact, that it is now on its 3rd reprint and is being made available in a different format, this time as a jewel case CD with the addition of the live version of the track ‘Lupercale’.

SELVANS are set to join KAMPFAR when the iconic Norwegian Black Metallers play a series of dates in Italy in November.

“It’s been two and a half years since the release of our last album, and with “Mayhem In Blue” we have set out to express our more aggressive side, without sacrificing any of the psychedelic melodies that are  an integral  part of what we like to call HAIL SPIRIT NOIR’ s “weird black sound”.  If anything, in fact, the sound is more enticing and trippy than ever.

“Featuring the mixing talents of Dimitris Douvras (ROTTING CHRIST etc) and the exceptional mastering abilities of Alan Douches (CHELSEA WOLFE, MOTORHEAD etc), we feel that the result is an album that elevates our signature psychoprog black metal sound to new levels”.

HAIL SPIRIT NOIR will celebrate the release of “Mayhem in Blue” with two shows in Greece, alongside Norwegian Pioneering Experimental Rockers VIRUS.  You can catch them at the Kyttaro Live Club in Athens on the 28th October, and the Eight Ball Live Stage in their home town of Thessaloniki on the 29th October.
