With just a month to go to the release of HYMNR’s debut full-length album “Far Beyond Insanity”, a second track from the album makes its debut.  Titled “Part.III” the track is streaming exclusively on “No Clean Singing” and can be heard at https://www.nocleansinging.com/2021/03/23/an-ncs-premiere-hymnr-part-iii/

Describing themselves as a “Black Metal band from unknown parts of the world” HYMNR plays its cards very close to its chest when it comes to its lineup, saying little more than that it is comprised of V on Vocals, V1 on Guitars and VII on Drums.

Intriguingly, the band did have this to say regarding both its formation, and its music:

HYMNR is an entity, a formation that spawned itself.  The music, the story, and the concept of HYMNR is its own tale, charting the tragic path that has led the world, humanity, and religion on a downwards spiral.

HYMNR is not so much a band as a concept that sets forth the old anguish-filled tales of how it all ended up where it did.

What HYMNR is, no one can say, except maybe the induvidual minds of the ones who are willing to embark on this journey.

HYMNR  needs to be heard and seen, and, above all, felt.

Mixed and mastered by Christer Krogh at  Velvet Recording,  and with artwork by David Thiérrée, tracklisting for “Far Beyond Insanity” is as follows:

Part.I
Part.II
Part.III
Part.IV

“Far Beyond Insanity” will hit the streets on the 23rd April in in CD, Digital and LP formats on Saturnal Records.

Additionally, a  Special Edition Vinyl , limited to 10 copies, which will contain a poster and a patch, will be available only directly from HYMNR.

The limited edition of “Far Beyond Insanity”, along with other formats,  is available to pre-order from https://www.devilryproductions.com/shop

After a long, and for some, an impatient, wait, CODE are back with “Flyblown Prince” the fifth full-length album from the legendary UK band that has, over the years,  preferred to dodge any attempts at being categorised by forging its own individual path through the ever-expanding minefield of genres.

Set to hit the streets on Dark Essence Records on the 4th of June, “Flyblown Prince” is a perverse fairy tale of an album that guides its listeners through the twists and turns of a dark and ghoulish nightmare fantasy of cinematic proportions.   As the band explains:

We are thrilled to finally be unleashing our new album ‘Flyblown Prince’ with our friends at Dark Essence Records.  This album is the result of three years of work and it is wonderful to be able to let it loose in all its mad, brutal and grandiose glory.  Every detail has been meticulously poured over and we think this is our richest release to date.  We hope you enjoy our 45-minute, darkness filled and anxiety ridden offering.

For “Flyblown Prince” CODE’s lineup of Aort on Guitars, Lordt on Drums, Syhr on Bass and Wacian on Vocals, with guitarist Andras providing support on the recordings, have created an ever-shifting soundscape of moods and violent aggression, to produce an album that is quite possibly the most intense and extreme album the band has ever produced.  A progressive album, both musically and technically, and one the likes of which hasn’t been heard in years.

A video teaser for “Flyblown Prince” can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/RM3_L7GHo6A

With cover art by Kristina Pavleska, layout by Costin Chioreanu and photography by Julie Cottrell, “Flyblown Prince” will be available in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats.  Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Flyblown Prince
2. Clemency & Atropy
3. By the Charred Stile
4. Rat King
5. From the Next Room
6. Dread Stridulate Lodge
7. Scold’s Bride
8. The Mad White Hair

Formed in London in 2002 from the black ruminations of Aort’s early project, SEASONAL CODE, the band have drawn a creative line through a series of full-length studio albums starting with the brittle avant-garde of  2005’s “Nouveau Gloaming”, to 2009’s Spellemann-nominated “Resplendent Grotesque”, before moving  on to the mad theatre of 2013’s “Augur Nox”,  and the bleak, anaesthetic wash of 2015’s “mut”.

In 2015 CODE also released a savage live tour recording, whilst 2017 saw the appearance of two EP’s “Lost Signal”, which was largely a live re-forging of the material from a new perspective, and “Under the Subgleam”  which served as a hint at what would eventually develop in  today’s “Flyblown Prince”.

Taking into account the current world-wide Pandemic, and the effects it has had on the music scene,  Norwegian Black Metallers NORDJEVEL have decided to postpone the release of what will be their third full-length album, but, not wanting to disappoint fans they have decided to release an EP in the meantime. As the band explains:

We have been writing material for the upcoming full-length, and are still working on it now, but, due to the ongoing pandemic situation we decided to delay its release until late 2021, in the hope of being able to play live and tour with the album.

The five-track EP, which will hit the streets on Indie Recordings on the 7th May, takes its name from “Fenriir”, the monstrous wolf of Norse Mythology. It is not, however, a concept recording, as NORDJEVEL are quick to point out:

“Fenriir” is an EP that shows all sides of NORDJEVEL, from the very beginning, right up to where we are now.  We had a few extra tracks which we decided early on in the recording process didn`t fit our upcoming album, so we decided to include two tracks, the title track “Fenriir”, along with “Rovdyr”, and make them exclusively available for this EP.

To make the release more special, we also decided to record ” Gnawing The Bones” which is one of the new songs that will be on the upcoming album. We also wanted to include a live track, so we mixed and mastered a version of ” Det Ror Og Ror” which was recorded live at Brutal Assault in 2019 by Hugo Alvarstein.

And of course we couldn’t miss the opportunity to record a cover of “Fallen Angel” by the mighty POSSESSED. It is our tribute to them as the pioneers they are for our music, and also to honour them after we had the pleasure of touring with them last year.

NORDJEVEL’s lineup on “Fenriir” includes Doedsadmiral on Vocals, Destructhor and Valla on Guitars, Dzepticunt on Bass and Dominator on Drums.  Vocals, bass and guitars were recorded at Velvet Recording, Spydeberg, Norway,  by Nordjevel and Christer Krogh, whilst drums recorded at Studio LV5 in Sundsvall, Sweden.

With Artwork and layout by Doedsadmiral and long-time collaborator Khaos Diktator Design, “Fenriir” will be available in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats.  Track listing for “Fenriir” is as follows:

  1. Fenriir
  2. Gnawing The Bones
  3. Rovdyr
  4. Fallen Angel (Possessed Cover)
  5. Det Ror og Ror (Live At Brutal Assault 2019)

With the release the  of the single  “Meldrøye”, taken from VESTINDIEN’s debut full-length album “Null” , Dark Essence Records have revealed another tantalising glimpse into what fans can expect to hear from a band whose initial brief foray into the music scene generated a considerable amount of interest thanks to their frenetic live shows, and enthusiastically received 2011 EP “We are the Lords of Hellfire”.

“Meldrøye”, about which VESTINDIEN say “Exploring and expanding one’s mind is crucial to help us understand that we are not placed above nature. We are nature”, can be streamed or downloaded from various services at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Vestindien_Meldroye

Despite having garnered a substantial following for themselves, VESTINDIEN called it a day seven years ago, and, for reasons known only to themselves, had remained silent.  Until now, that is, with the band’s original lineup of Torjus Slettsnok on vocals, Simon Skøien on guitars, Karl Johan Johannessen on drums and Pål Eirik Veseth on bass, storming back, having replaced their classic 90’s hardcore sound, with its heavy metal twist, with one that embodies the essence of Black Metal, Punk and Old School rock’n’roll.

The result of this new direction is a more introverted and less aggressive approach to music, resulting in “Null”, an album which still subtly hints at VESTINDIEN’s hardcore roots, but  whose songs are dark, desperate and desolate, with some hard-hitting punches of energy and groove.

Set for release on Dark Essence Records on the 12th February 2021, tracklisting for “Null” is as follows:

1. Mot Dag
2. Berenberg
3. Meldrøye
4. Null
5. Ormegard
6. Ned
7. Øst for Sol

“Null” will appear in CD, DIgital and Black/Gold Vinyl formats, and can be pre-ordered from the following:

With “Through Aureate Void” set to be released on the 25th February, Dark Essence Records have today released  the single ” Leaf in the Current”, from what will be FIVE THE HIEROPHANT’s second full-length album.

” Leaf in the Current” is the opening track from the album and this is what FIVE THE HIEROPHANT had to say about it:

‘Leaf in the current’ is the first piece we ever did for the new album. It has been well over a year since we started the recording, a process that was supposed to be like a quick exciting bang and ended up in being  like this draining everlasting orgy without hope for culmination on the horizon. If you excuse the metaphor. So from the perspective of this time,  I believe that this track is the most representative of Five The Hierophant version 2020 and should give you a good clue as to what is about to unfold.

It  can be streamed or downloaded from various locations at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/5th_leafinthecurrent

FIVE THE HIEROPHANT’s  lineup comprises Chris on drums, Dan on percussion instruments (toms, bongos, djembe, zither, tabla, triangle guirro, shakers, death whistle, cymbals), Mitch – bass guitar effects, omichord, noisebox, analogue synthesizer, Jon on saxophone, music saw, bells, Kali on guitar, field recordings, violin, zither, bow guitar, dungchen. And much more besides!

With their use of such a plethora of unusual instruments FIVE THE HIEROPHANT are able to create a sound where psychedelic black metal combines with jazz and doom, leading the listener into drone-like universe shrouded in mysticism and mystery.

And, with their latest offering, the band has followed an even more psychedelic direction, whilst keeping intact the heaviness and darkness that make FIVE THE HIEROPHANT’s music so devastating, as the band recently explained:

It took us longer than anticipated, as you can imagine, due to circumstances that befall us all. Nonetheless, the new album is finished, and ready to take you on a journey through aureate void. It’s quite abstract, and there’s lots of experimentation, both in regard to the sound and instruments used, and to the song structures. A lot of it comes from improvisation and leaving things to chance. I suppose we have taken it further than our debut album.

FIVE THE HIEROPHANT have once again used the work of the legendary Norwegian painter Odd Nerdrum for the album’s cover art, and track listing for “Through Aureate Void” is as follows:

1. Leaf in the Current
2. Fire from Frozen Cloud
3. Berceuse (for Magnetic Sleep)
4. Pale Flare over Marshes
5. The Hierophant (II)

“Through Aureate Void” will be available in CD, LP and Digital formats, and can now be pre-ordered from:

As well as releasing “Through Aureate Void” on the 26th February, Dark Essence Records will also be releasing for the very first time a vinyl version of the album’s  predecessor, 2017’s  “Over Phlegethon”.  Tracklisting is as follows:

5. Sepulchre
6. Omen Tree

With less than a month to go to the release of “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, the much-anticipated third full-length album from ENDEZZMA,  Dark Essence Records have provided a further glimpse  into the darkness  the Norwegian Black Metallers  are so adept at creating with the release of a new single taken from the album, along with an accompanying video.

The single, titled “Wild Glorior Death”  can be streamed or downloaded at

https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Endezzma_Wild-Glorior-Death

Whilst the video for “Wild Glorior Death”  can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/BmugxJ3v1yM

The band point out that with its powerful build up to the climax the video is the perfect visual accompaniment to the track:

“Wild Glorior Death” is a true manifest and a real gate to the core of the mythical and philosophical depth of the album. In this song you find the essential battle of strength, untamed forces and the unbound darkness. A rapture of oppressive sonic splendour visualized by the video that follows the track. The journey builds up through a real violent and epic storm and through the thunder the listener will experience that the song represents the turning point in the storyline of the album. The Archer claims his throne through “Wild Glorior Death”

With “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, ENDEZZMA have taken massive strides with their song writing, and have produced an album that bridges the gap between dark anthems and primitive aggression.  Recorded at the Vika Studio and the Malpherno Studio in Norway, the album was  mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm.  Artwork is by Stefan Todorovic/Kahos Diktator Design, and the tracklisting is as follows:

  1. The Awakening
  2. The Name of the Night is a Strong Tower
  3. Anomalious Abomination
  4. The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder
  5. Formless and Void
  6. Garden ov Heathen
  7. Wild Glorior Death
  8. Open Your Eyes and Stab the Sight
  9. Arrows of Equilibrium
  10. Closure

“The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” will hit the streets on the 22nd January,  and will be available in Digipak CD, digital and LP formats, with an A2 poster included with the vinyl version.  It is now available to pre-order from the following:

Malphas on guitars, Nihil on Rythm Guitar,  Skriu on  Drums and Aske on bass.  It is a lineup whose talent and experience makes it ideal to perform music that is brutal, fiercely intense, and yet aesthetically mystical for which ENDEZZMA is noted.

Dark Essence Records have announced the details of “Through Aureate Void”, the second full-length album from Britain’s FIVE THE HIEROPHANT, a band that uses unusual instruments to create a dark and drone-like universe where psychedelic black metal combines with jazz and doom to devastating effect.

The follow up to 2017’s “Over Phlegethon”,  “Through Aureate Void” goes in an even more psychedelic direction, without losing any of the heaviness or darkness that imbued their debut album.

As the band explains:

It took us longer than anticipated, as you can imagine, due to circumstances that befall us all. Nonetheless, the new album is finished, and ready to take you on a journey through aureate void. Having created a substantial following for themselves, due in part to the release of the 2011 EP “We are the Lords of Hellfire”, and in part to the band’s frenetic live shows and the notoriety of having named themselves after the last surviving brothel in Bergen (now a museum) VESTINDIEN, for reasons unknown, decided to call it a day.

But, seven years later, some of the original members got together and decided that the time was right to start making music again.  Gone was VESTINDIEN’s classic 90’s hardcore sound, with its heavy metal twist, to be replaced by one that embodies the essence of Black Metal, Punk and Old School rock’n’roll.

It was a sound that intrigued Dark Essence Records enough to sign VESTINDIEN, and plan the release of the band’s debut full-length album “Null”. An album in which hints of the band’s hardcore roots are still subtly present, but  whose songs are dark, desperate and desolate, and which also include hard-hitting punches of energy and groove.

And now, fans who have been wondering what to expect from VESTINDIEN can find out, because Dark Essence Records have released the title track from the album, and it can be streamed or downloaded at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Vestindien_Null

About the single, and their more introverted and less aggressive approach to music,  VESTINDIEN’s lineup of of Torjus Slettsnok on vocals, Simon Skøien on guitars, Karl Johan Johannessen on drums and Pål Eirik Veseth on bass,  had this to say:

NULL is about not feeling comfortable in, or being able to understand a fake neon world.
NULL is about destroying norms and rules embedded in us through endless years of lies.
NULL is about taking a stance on how, and why to live.

Tracklisting for  VESTINDIEN’s debut full-length album “Null” is as follows:

1. Mot Dag
2. Berenberg
3. Meldrøye
4. Null
5. Ormegard
6. Ned
7. Øst for Sol

Norwegian Black Metal icon Hoest has cast some positivity into the hell that has been 2020, with the release of two TAAKE 10″split EPs, one with DEATHCULT (on Edged Circle Productions) and one with WHOREDOM RIFE (on Terratur Possessions), and now, as the year draws to a close, a third split has been announced.

The new EP will see TAAKE join forces with HELHEIM, and will be the last of the three 10″ splits.  Titled ”Henholdsvis”  the EP will appear on Bergen’s eponymous Dark Essence Records, the long-time label of both bands,  and is set for release on the 5th March 2021.

For “Henholdsvis” TAAKE has recorded two new tracks, “Brotne Bein og Mannefall” and “Ein Baat i Foss”,  whose lyrics are based on poems by the famed Norwegian writer Arne Garborg (1851-1924).  With these new tracks, the band has produced the kind of Black Metal fans crave – dark, cold and gritty.

HELHEIM, on the other hand, will present two covers.  The first is a re-mastered version of EMPEROR’s “Heksesabbat / Witches Sabbath”, which originally appeared on the tribute album “A Tribute to Emperor – In Honour of Icon E” in 2012, and which has now been totally remastered.  For the second of the two covers HELHEIM have chosen to go down a very interesting  path by recording a very different,  and original, version of “Orkan” , from TAAKE’s  “Noregs Vaapen” album.

Recorded by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) at his Conclave and Earshot Studios in the bands’ hometown of Bergen, and with artwork by H’grimnir, tracklisting for “Henholdsvis” is as follows:

1. Brotne Bein og Mannefall – Taake
2. Ein Baat i Foss – Taake
3. Orkan – Helheim
4. Heksesabbat – Helheim

“Henholdsvis” will be released in 10″ black vinyl as well as in red, white and blue vinyl, limited to 333 copies each.  It will also be available in digital format and can now be pre-order from the following:

Dark Essence Records have unleashed “The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower”, a devastating new single and video taken from the upcoming album from Norwegian Black Metallers ENDEZZMA.  The album itself,  titled  “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, will be the band’s third full-length to date, and will launch the label’s 2021 releases.

“The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower”  can be streamed or downloaded at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/thenameofthenight

The video for “The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower”  can be seen blow and at https://youtu.be/FLwlxcdbL_I

Here is what the band have to say about the track:

With The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower, we open the tunnels to The Archer’s mythical universe and oppressive landscape. As we let the philosophical perception of death collide with the sight of a grand epic awakening.

Who are we and what do we chase and hunt for if not a greater, intense progress of our burning idol known as death? Or, The Archer when he, upon his arrival announces: The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower.

ENDEZZMA was formed in 2006 by frontman M. Shax,  and the band’s  current lineup includes a plethora of talented and experienced musicans.  Together,  M. Shax  on vocals, M. Malphas on guitars, Nihil on Rythm Guitar,  Skriu on  Drums and Aske on bass, demonstrate a  brand of brutal, fiercely intense, and yet aesthetically mystical approach to their music.

“The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, was recorded at the Vika Studio and the Malpherno Studio in Norway, and was mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm, and with it, ENDEZZMA have taken a huge step forward in their song writing, and produced an album that bridges the gap between dark anthems and primitive aggression.

The cover art for “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” is by Stefan Todorovic/Kahos Diktator Design, and the tracklisting is as follows:

  1. The Awakening
  2. The Name of the Night is a Strong Tower
  3. Anomalious Abomination
  4. The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder
  5. Formless and Void
  6. Garden ov Heathen
  7. Wild Glorior Death
  8. Open Your Eyes and Stab the Sight
  9. Arrows of Equilibrium
  10. Closure

“The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” will hit the streets on the 22nd January,  and will be available in Digipak CD, digital and LP formats, with an A2 poster included with the vinyl version.  It is now available to pre-order from the following:
