Norwegian vocalist Doedsadmiral seems to have a magic touch when it comes to attracting some of the top Black and Extreme Metal musicians and forming them into new bands. With his bands NORDJEVEL (which includes current and former members of MARDUK, RAGNAROK, FATAL IMPACT, TVANGESTE and BYRDI), and SVARTELDER (with current and former members of CARPATHIAN FOREST, IN THE WOODS, DEN SAAKALDTE, PANTHEON I and OLD FOREST) being snapped up instantly by labels , and with debut albums that have taken the Black Metal sector by storm, the somewhat mysterious frontman has done it again with the formation of DOEDSVANGR.
Joining him in DOEDSVANGR’s lineup is Shatraug (HORNA, SARGEIST, BEHEXEN and NIGHTBRINGER) on guitars, and Anti-Christian (TSJUDER, BEATEN TO DEATH) on drums, and the band has already finished writing their debut album and is now ready to enter the Klang Studios in Oslo with producer Bjarne Stensli, who will record, mix and master it. According to DOEDSVANGR, the album, which will be titled “Satan Ov Suns”, is a “very dark work, very evil and with extreme variations, but with a lot of groove”.
Norwegian Black Metallers SVARTELDER have announced that their debut full length album “Pyres” is set to hit the streets on the 1st of June. Released on Dusktone, the six-track album will be available as a a digipack CD , as well as a Limited Edition A5 Digi CD limited to 100 copies and is now available to pre-order from the label at http://www.dusktone.eu/product/svartelder-pyres/
With a lineup that comprises members of CARPATHIAN FOREST, NORDJEVEL, IN THE WOODS, DEN SAAKALDTE, PANTHEON I, OLD FOREST and DOEDSVANGR, speculation about “Pyres” has been high, and in order to give fans a taste of what to expect, Dusktone has produced a video teaser for the album which can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/hAJx_Gl6tKA

Norwegian Black Metal veterans RAGNAROK are streaming their upcoming eighth full-length album “Psychopathology” in its entirety ahead of its release on the 25th March. The album, which is being streamed exclusively by Terrorizer magazine can be heard at http://www.terrorizer.com/news/ragnarok-stream-new-album-psychopathology
RAGNAROK guitarist Bolverk had this to say about the album:
“The new Ragnarok album follows in the footsteps of its predecessor ‘Malediction’. A mix of old Ragnarok and newer inspiration. The title of the album is ‘Psychopathology’, a term which in short means to dissect someone’s mind. A couple of lines of text from the title track are: “I’m inside your mind. I dissect your soul,” and one of the points of the lyrics is that sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. This is by no means a concept album, but most of the lyrics can be associated with madness or deviation in some form or another. To make it very brief: ‘Dominance and Submission’ is about sadomasochism. ‘The Eighth of the Seven Plagues’ and ‘Heretic’ are about religion. ‘Where Dreams go to Die’ is about madness. ‘Lies’ and ‘I Hate’ are pretty self-explanatory. ‘Into the Abyss’ is about the dark path that most of us are on. ‘Infernal Majesty’ is a tribute to our master. ‘Blood’ is about sacrifice. ‘My Creator’ has some very personal lyrics written by Jontho, while the other lyrics are written by (myself) Bolverk”.
The eleven-track album was recorded at the Endarker Studio in Sweden with MARDUK bassist Devo at the helm and is the first time that founder Jontho, one of Norwegian Black Metal’s most recognizable drummers, is not to be found behind the drumkit. In a surprise announcement last year, Jontho took up the mantle of frontman, and relinquished his drummer role to DAUDEN’s Malignant . On guitars is RAGNAROK stalwart Bolverk, whilst bassist DezeptiCunt makes his final appearance with the band.

Aside from founder and frontman Doedsadmiral SVARTELDER’s lineup comprises of Maletoth on bass and guitars, AK-47 on drums, and Kobold on keys. There is no doubt that the band’s sound is firmly rooted in black metal, but SVARTELDER’s strength lies in the fact that not only is its lineup vastly experienced, it is also able to draw that experience from a variety of different musical backgrounds and influences. And this is something that allows the band to mix different elements together, bringing a fresher, more varied, approach to the overall sound.

It’s been almost six years since the release of “Torturmantra”, the sophomore full-length album from Norwegian Black Metallers GRAVDAL, and in those years the band has undergone a few changes, with the previously announced departure of guitarist Specter, who left to concentrate on other projects, as well as vocalist Galge who quit the music business.
Now GRAVDAL is back with a strong new lineup which, aside from founders Phobos (drums in AETERNUS, live drummer GORGOROTH) on guitars and backing vocals and Taakesjel on drums, the new lineup includes some heavy hitters in the form of Eld (KRAKOW, AETERNUS) on bass and vocals and Saur (DOMINANZ) on guitars.
Eld & Saur
With the band currently hard at work on what will be their third full-length studio album, and with the new lineup due to hit the stage at Blastfest this week, GRAVDAL have released a Rough Mix of a track from the album. The track, titled “Domino” can be heard below and at https://soundcloud.com/gravdal/domino-rough-mix
x
The album is currently being recorded at Mackwerk Recording in the band’s hometown of Bergen, with producer Lord Bård at the helm. Other than to say that the album will be called “Kadaverin”, and that the music is by Phobos and the lyrics by Phobos and Eld, no other details are available at the moment. Phobos did, however, recently say: “With our second album, “Torturmantra”, we took a huge step forward, expanding the range of the band considerably, so rest assured that with “Kadaverin” we will be taking things even further”.
Commenting on the new lineup Phobos had this to say: “Shortly after Specter announced he was leaving, Galge let us know that he would be quitting the music business. We didn’t announce anything at the time because we wanted to have everything in place first, so we’d like to take the opportunity now to thank him for all his work and all the good times together.
“We are, however, extremely happy with the addition of Eld and Saur to the lineup, and more than excited about bringing the new lineup to Blastfest. They are musicians of the highest calibre who we have known on a personal and professional level for a long time, and there is no doubt that their input has brought a new vitality to GRAVDAL. The track we are debuting is very much a rough mix, but we wanted to give fans a taste of the new GRAVDAL, and with Blastfest coming up, we thought this would be a good time to do it”.
