With the release of TUSMØRKE’S latest album “Intetnett”  scheduled for the 7th October, Karisma Records have today revealed a second single what will be the third album from the anarchic band that is aimed primarily at children.

Taking as its theme story of  two evil scientists who plant a self-teaching system called Intetnett onto the computers of an unsuspecting school, and which then proceeds to take control of an ant colony living in the school kitchen by using electronic impulses.   The system soon jumps from the ants, to human hosts, taking over the minds of both pupils and teachers.  Except of course, the minds of those who do not quite “fit in”, namely one of the teachers who is a technophobe, and a substitute teacher who does not yet have the necessary login info to access the computers, along with a small group of pupils.

The track chosen for the new single is a piece with an almost disco-beat  titled “Maurenes Jenka”  in which the band invite you to:

Lose yourself in the crowd and forget yourself to the enticing rhythms of the jenka dance! The ants invite you to a wonderful party game where everyone jumps in time. Get in line, this dance is easy enough for even father to join in.

You can download or stream “Maurenes Jenka”  from a number of services at https://link.karismarecords.no/Tusmorke_Maurenes-Jenka

The thing about  TUSMØRKE is that while they may aim some of their albums at children, and entertaining though those albums may be, the band also has a serious message to impart to its adult listeners. And, by introducing a fascinating mix of subjects ranging from  artificial intelligence, to advancements in technology, to the Singularity, and  Mesopotamian gods,  TUSMØRKE reminds us all of our old, long-forgotten histories.

In fact, “Intetnett” serves as a warning about the direction mankind is taking with technology, where our world is becoming a totalitarian nightmare where no one thinks for themselves, no one dreams anymore, and human culture itself is in peril. But all in not lost, because, long-ignored by humans, and consequently fading away, the old Mesopotamian Gods want to help humankind regain its freedom, and the only way to do so is by using Magic – better known as the old technology from a bygone era.

Enter our misfit heroes – the Norwegian teacher, the substitute and the children, who are given instructions on how to summon a Golem, a creature of legend that will be able to confront, and hopefully defeat,  Intetnett, thereby  pulling the plug on the dangerous computers.

Written for, and first performed at, the Aktivitetsskolen Nordstrand,  “Intetnett” is actually comprised of  two original musicals – “Intetnett” and “Når Enden er Golem” and will quite possible be the band’s final children’s release. It was recorded  at Det Ytre Rommet, Holy Space! and the Nordstrand Skole by a lineup that includes Benediktator (bass, vocals, guitars, synths, percussion, whistling), Krizla (flute, vocals, piano, synths, percussion) and HlewagastiR (drums).

With artwork by the legendary Norwegian artist Thore Hansen, “Intetnett” features a  whopping total of 21 tracks and  will be available in CD, Digital, and Limited Edition White Vinyl formats, the latter of which will come with a 12-page lyric booklet.

Tracklisting as follows:

If there is one thing you can expect from TUSMØRKE it’s the unexpected, and so it is with their upcoming album “Nordisk Krim”, which is set for release on Karisma Records on the 26th February.

It is an album Psychedelic Folk Rock Proggers have long-dreamt of making, because it deals with one of their fascinations in life – the Danish Bog Bodies, which they first saw when they visited the museums at Moesgaard and Silkeborg as children and remained transfixed by the black bodies with their orange hair.

And today the band has chosen to release “Ride the Whimbrel”, the opening track from “Nordisk Krim” as a single, and you can stream or download it from various services at https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/Tusmorke_RideTheWhimbrel

TUSMØRKE had this to say about the tack:

“Ride the Whibrel “is an homage to the spirits of the wetlands. Scouting the reedbeds for waders in the mist, heavy wings overhead glide in and out of focus. Riding the timbrel; villagers would parade their victim in a cart before ducking them in the village pond. Riding the whimbrel; the ethereal body of the drowned float through the fog in the plumage of large shorebirds. Picture a pink flamingo by a kidney shaped pool; then shrink the bird, make it dusky and give it a bill the shape of the new moon; then replace the pool with an archaeological dig in a dark, dank, Danish moor; now you may ride the whimbrel. “

Regarding the title of the album itself, TUSMØRKE explained that:

Nordisk Krim, which means Nordic Crime, refers to the fact that the bog bodies were first thought to be a police matter. In reality, the true crime was disturbing the gifts to the gods in their slumber. Nordisk Krim celebrates the willing victims of ancient rites, those whose bodies are in the bog, but whose souls are among the stars in the heavens.

The lineup on “Nordisk Krim”  includes  Benediktator (bass & vocals), Krizla (flute & vocals), HlewagastiR (drums), Haugebonden Gode Gullstein (keys) and Åsa Ree (violin), who recorded and produced the whole thing  in Benedikator’s home studio (Det Ytre Rommet). Apart, of course, from some field recordings and some bubble noises recorded in the bathtub (The Bubble Bath of Blood)!

With artwork by Anne Margrete Sjøflot, track listing on “Nordisk Krim”, which is a double concept album coming in at a whopping 82 minutes, is as follows:

  1. Ride the Whimbrel
  2. Age of Iron Man
  3. Mumia
  4. Cauldron Bog
  5. Dog’s Flesh
  6. Moss Goddess
  7. Black Incubation
  8. Et Moselik
  9. Heksejakt
  10. (The Marvellous and Murderous) Mysteries of Sacrifice

“Nordisk Krim” will be available in digital, double CD and double LP formats, with the vinyl being limited to 666 copies in transparent magenta.  It can be pre-ordered from:

They’re back. Norway’s most unique and anarchic Psychedelic Folk Rock Proggers TUSMØRKE are back with a brand new album.  And not just any album because “Nordisk Krim” is the fulfilment of a dream as old as TUSMØRKE itself.

As the band explains:

When we formed in 1994, there was a plan to record a concept album about Danish bog bodies. As children, we visited the museums of Moesgaard and Silkeborg, transfixed by the sight of the black bodies with orange hair. Shortly after, we discovered heavy metal. Funny how you can love a genre from the age of 7 and still never learn how to play it.

Or, to quote Philip K. Dick’s “The Man in the High Castle”:

“Metal is from the earth, he thought as he scrutinized. From below: from that realm which is the lowest, the most dense. Land of trolls and caves, dank, always dark. Yin world, in its most melancholy aspect. World of corpses, decay and collapse. Of faeces. All that has died, slipping and disintegrating back down layer by layer. The daemonic world of the immutable; the time-that-was.”

The title Nordisk Krim (Nordic Crime) refers to the fact that the bog bodies were first thought to be a police matter. In reality, the true crime was disturbing the gifts to the gods in their slumber. Nordisk Krim celebrates the willing victims of ancient rites, those whose bodies are in the bog but whose souls are among the stars in the heavens.

So get ready for a taste of this epic double album because today Karisma Records have released “Age of Iron Man” a single and video taken from the album.

The “Age of Iron Man” single can be streamed or downloaded at https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/ageofironman

Whilst the video can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/Xj-BA1hURB8

The band had this to say about “Age of Iron Man”

Age of Iron Man celebrates ancient rites of pagan Denmark. Elite members  of society would travel to the world of the gods beyond the bog, never  to return. Or would they? Killed thrice by knife, blunt instrument and  rope, submerged in sacred ponds, the bog bodies slept through the  centuries, skin tanned black, hair dyed orange. When they were dug up,  police sought their killers, only to realize they were 1500 years too  late.

For Norwegians, Denmark has always been the  promised land; a place of plenty, of freedom, of rock’n’roll and red  hotdogs. Denmark manages to be the smaller country and yet the older  brother; hip, cool and always closer to Germany than, say Sweden. The  sacrificial cult of the goddess Nerthus was documented by the travelling  historian Gaius Tacitus in 98 and has had a strong pull on
Norwegian  minds ever since. To go to Denmark and lose your worries, your  inhibitions and your head is a trip that never gets old.

The lineup on “Nordisk Krim”  includes  Benediktator (bass & vocals), Krizla (flute & vocals), HlewagastiR (drums), Haugebonden Gode Gullstein (keys) and Åsa Ree (violin), Everything was recorded and produced in Benedikator’s home studio (Det Ytre Rommet), except field recordings and some bubble noises recorded in the bathtub (The Bubble Bath of Blood).

  5. Dog’s Flesh
  6. Moss Goddess
  7. Black Incubation
  8. Et Moselik
  9. Heksejakt
  10. (The Marvellous and Murderous) Mysteries of Sacrifice

Tusmorke Terje_Skår 2019PR2

Karisma Records have today released a second single from “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne”, the upcoming album from Norwegian Prog Folk Rockers TUSMØRKE.

The single, for the track “Sjubidubidu Sju”, which,  according to TUSMØRKE is “A funky number about the number seven, centred around an old dance (and character in the story) called Per Sjuspring”, can be streamed or downloaded at  https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/Tusmorke_Sjubidubidu_Sju

tusmorke Sjubidubidu sju ArtworkPR

“Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne”, which translated means “Games for children, rituals for adults” is based on two musicals for children, “The Bridge to the Other Side” and “The Root of All Evil”, and consists partly of  Tusmørke’s take on traditional Norwegian children’s songs,  and partly on new material by the  band.

Noted for its eccentricity, and not shy about trying new and unusual things, TUSMØRKE is quite happy to admit about “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne” that  “Not everyone who took part in the plays completely understood what they were doing. Neither did everyone in the audience.  But here it is, in all its gory glory as the collegium of dashing adventurers and explorers of the unknown reaches of history, known to the unwashed masses under the pseudonym TUSMØRKE, have yet again brought fresh fever from the stars”.

“Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne” is set for release on the 29th November, and will be available in CD, Digital, Black Vinyl and Limited Edition White Vinyl formats, all of which include a 16 page lyric booklet, which, according to the band, “May, or may not, explain the plot”.

With artwork by Thore Hansen, track listing for “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne” is as follows:

  1. Bro bro brille                         9. Velkommen til Hades
  2. Per Sjuspring                        10. Kharons vise
  3. Kjerringa med staven         11. På den ytterste nakne øya
  4. Ta den ring                            12. Jeg gikk meg over sjø og land
  5. Tornerose                              13. Den tolvte Baal
  6. Bjørnen sover                       14. Gamlas seierssang
  7. På Torneroses slot               15. Eventyret er ute
  8. Sjubidubidu Sju                   16. Du og jeg og vi to

TUSMØRKE’s lineup consists of Benediktator on Bass, vocals, Glockenspiel and percussion, Krizla on Flute, vocals, electronics and percussion,  The Phenomenon Marxo Solinas on Minimoog Model D, Korg CX3, William de Blaise on harpsichord, Steinway & Sons Grand Piano, Hohner Clavinet D6, Mellotron M400, Hammond C3, Wurlitzer 200 and Solina String Ensemble, and HlewagastiR on Drums and percussion.  With its members drawn  from bands like WOBBLER, JORDSJØ and ALWANZATAR, it is easy to understand why TUSMØRKE can  make use of such a staggering  variety of instruments.

Understated is definitely not an adjective that can be applied to Norwegian Prog Folk Rockers TUSMØRKE whose latest album “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne” is set for release on Karisma Records on the 29th November.

Based on two musicals for children, “The Bridge to the Other Side” and “The Root of All Evil”, “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne”, which translated means “Games for children, rituals for adults”, consists partly of  Tusmørke’s take on traditional Norwegian children’s songs,  and partly on new material by the  band. And, whilst waiting for its release, Karisma Records have lifted the veil on what we can expect, by releasing a single from the album.

The single, with artwork by the legendary Thore Hansen, happens to be the opening track “Bro bro brille” and it can be streamed and downloaded at https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/Tusmorke_Bro_Bro_Brille

TUSMØRKE’s lineup is drawn  from bands like WOBBLER, JORDSJØ and ALWANZATAR, and, in keeping with the band’s innate eccentricity, the variety of instruments they have at their command is staggering, with Benediktator on Bass, vocals, Glockenspiel and percussion, Krizla on Flute, vocals, electronics and percussion,  The Phenomenon Marxo Solinas on Minimoog Model D, Korg CX3, William de Blaise on harpsichord, Steinway & Sons Grand Piano, Hohner Clavinet D6, Mellotron M400, Hammond C3, Wurlitzer 200 and Solina String Ensemble, and HlewagastiR on Drums and percussion.

The band  happily admit that:

Not everyone who took part in the plays completely understood what they were doing. Neither did everyone in the audience.  But here it is, in all its gory glory as the collegium of dashing adventurers and explorers of the unknown reaches of history, known to the unwashed masses under the pseudonym TUSMØRKE, have yet again brought fresh fever from the stars.

With no small risk to their very lives, they have investigated the Mesopotamian idolatry that hid beneath what we, in our innocence, thought were simple songs and verses concerned with harmless folklore and creatures of fantasy. Concealed by a veil of ignorance, these ritualistic rhymes and summoning songs reveal themselves as portals to blissful and terrible realms. Astral worlds and delirious peaks tread forth from the inner places of mankind, and thus exert their power over the reality we share in our waking hours.

Our rhymes, riddles and games for children contain ancient elements. Could one find traces of past religious rituals in them? Seemingly innocent texts gain a more foreboding aspect when viewed in light of the human sacrifices, spiritual journeys and ecstatic trance rituals of Europe in times past. Cultural traits that are today associated with exotic voodoo rituals, Buddhism or cannibalistic head hunters of New Guinea were once widespread among our Celtic and Germanic tribes.
