“Halfway Homes”,  the opening track from “Music for Wastelands”, the upcoming album from Jazz Prog Rockers OSSICLES, which is set for release on Karisma Records on the 6th November,  has been debuted today and can be heard below and at https://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/ossicles-halfway-homes

All instruments and vocals on the 14-track album are performed by cousins Bastian and Sondre Veland, who formed the band in 2011, with  guest appearances from Erlend Furuset Jenssen (saxophone) and Karin Mäkiranta (vocals).  Artwork for “Music for Wastelands” is by Randi Veland and track listing is as follows:

1. Halfway Homes
2. Darkroom
3. Tectonic
4. Will It Last?
5. Family Tree
6. Exit Wound
7. Pale Summer Nails
8. The Red Heart
9. Goodnight Ghosts
10. In the Stereo
11. Girl with the Glass Eye
12. Pandemonium
13. Porcelain Doll
14. Music for Wastelands

The two Veland cousins had this to say about the album:  “Music for Wastelands”  has a concept and a story that is told through the songs, and it’s composed as a single musical piece, which is something that will probably become clear the  more you hear it, because it’s meant to be an album in which you can hear something new every time you listen to it. The structure itself is inspired by DAVID BOWIE’s album “Low”, where the more immediate songs – the ones that are easiest to like –  appear first, and the more experimental songs come at the end.  There are few limitations when it comes to genres, and the album features a lot of different styles, something that was necessary in order to properly portray the concept and the story.

“Very importantly, we  both agree that with “Music for Wastelands” we have been able to define our own individual style and sound much more clearly, and we now sound more like ourselves rather than the music that originally inspired us”.

OSSICLES debut album “Mantlepiece” was originally self-released to much critical acclaim from the likes of musicians such PORCUPINE TREE’s STEVEN WILSON who said of it “I can’t believe that such young guys can make music like they do”, and MIKE PORTNOY, who, on the strength of the album, invited the band to appear live.  “Mantlepiece” was re-released earlier this year on Karisma Records.

When cousins Sondre and Bastian Veland formed OSSICLES in 2011, and went on to  self-releasetheir debut full-length album “Mantlepiece”, which was largely written by the duo when they were 16/17 years old, the following year, few could have forseen the extraordinary response it was to receive from much-respected musicians such as PORCUPINE TREE’s STEVEN WILSON who said of it “I can’t believe that such young guys can make music like they do”, and MIKE PORTNOY, who invited the band to appear live as a result of hearing it.

As a taste of what to expect from OSSICLES in the future, “Mantlepiece”, along with some additional later material,  was itself re-released by Karisma Records in July of this year as a double album,  and now the band and label are ready to release OSSICLES sophomore full-length album “Music for Wastelands” which is due to hit the streets on the 16th of October.

All instruments and vocals on “Music for Wastelands” are performed by Bastian and Sondre themselves, with  guest appearances from Erlend Furuset Jenssen (saxophone) and Karin Mäkiranta (vocals).  Artwork for “Music for Wastelands” is by Randi Veland and track listing for the 14-track album is as follows:

1. Halfway Homes
2. Darkroom
3. Tectonic
4. Will It Last?
5. Family Tree
6. Exit Wound
7. Pale Summer Nails
8. The Red Heart

Having recently signed the Norwegian Jazz Prog Rock duo Ossicles to their roster, and with the band’s sophomore full-length album “Music for Wastelands” set for release in October, Karisma Records will re-release OSSICLES debut double album “Mantelpiece” on the 17th July as a taste of things to come.

OSSICLES was fromed in 2011 by cousins Sondre Veland on drums, percussion, vocals and keyboards, and Bastian Veland on guitars, vocals, bass, upright bass and keyboards, and “Mantelpiece”  was originally self-released in 2012 on OSSICLES’ own label No Weather Records.  It was, for the most part, written when the duo were only 16/17 years old.  Also included on the album is some later material, as well as tracks written during the recording process.  Track listing for the nine-track album as follows:

1. Dewer’s Hollow
2. Luna’s Light
3. 1400
4. Moral Grey
5. Watersoul II
6. Barren Earth
7. Slur
8. Torn Pages
9. Silky Elm

According to the band, OSSICLES is a constantly evolving project influenced by a variety of genres including jazz, rock, avant-garde,ambient, noise and minimalism, and, young  though they were when they wrote the bulk of “Mantelpiece”,  the response to the album was extraordinary.  It caused PORCUPINE TREE’s STEVEN WILSON to comment “I can’t believe that such young guys can make music like they do”, and it caught  the attention of MIKE PORTNOY who invited the band to appear at the Progressive Nation at Sea Festival in 2014 – an invite they unfortunately had to turn down due to the prohibitive cost of travelling to the event.

OSSICLES are currently rehearsing with a full band, and are expected to hit the stage sometime soon.  More information about OSSICLES can be found on the band’s website at http://ossiclesband.wix.com/ossicles or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Ossicles

Karisma Records have inked a deal with Rockers TIEBREAKER that initially sees the label release two full-length albums from the band.   First up will be the re-release of TIEBREAKERS’s debut full-length album “We Come From The Mountains”, which was previously self-released in Norway, and which Karisma plans to release internationally in both CD and digital formats in the autumn of this year.   In the meantime, the band plans to move to a cabin in the Norwegian countryside during  August to concentrate on their sophomore full-length album, about which more details will be released at a later date.

Formed  by five childhood friends in 2011 in Odda, Hordaland, TIEBRAKER emerged from the Norwegian underground and within a few very short years grew into one of the finest rock bands in the country.  With their high-energy shows, TIEBREAKER have established a solid reputation on the live circuit, playing over 200 shows since 2013, including a tour of Texas, where the band played eleven shows in nine days.

TIEBREAKER’s lineup of Thomas Espeland Karlsen on vocals, Eirik Wik Haug and Olav Areklett Vikingstad on guitars, Patrick Andersson on bass and Pål Gunnar Dale on drums, create a sound that blends classic  70’s rock with today’s dirty rock and blues style and a pinch of prog thrown into the mix.   A perfect fit for Karisma Records growing roster of top notch bands.

To coincide with the announcement of their new record deal, TIEBREAKER have debuted a video of the band playing live at the ABC Studios.  Filmed by Gregor from thetripidea.com and produced by Kjetil Ulland, the video can be seen below and on the band’s YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/ptT_aigL474  or on the Karisma Records channel at https://youtu.be/UWE8nMkAfWo

Norwegian Avant-garde rockers VIRUS have signed a deal with Karisma Records that will see the label release the band’s fourth full-length album.  Alongside a recent busy touring schedule, VIRUS have been writing and honing material for the new album which will be titled “Memento Collider”, and the band is currently at work on it in studio. “Memento Collider” is scheduled for release this winter, and more details will follow.

VIRUS was formed in 2000 from the ashes of 90’s avant-garde black metal project VED BUENS ENDE by Carl “Czral” Michael Eide with the idea of creating a new kind of experimental metal / rock. With Czral on guitars and vocals, he brought with him bassist Petter “Plenum” Berntsen and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø and the band recorded their only demo that same year.

Having been picked up almost immediately by Jester Records, VIRUS released their debut album “Carheart” in 2003, but Czral’s accident in 2005, which hospitalized him for a year, resulted in the band going on hiatus until the release of their sophomore album “The Black Flux” on Season of Mist in 2008. An album, incidentally, that earned them the title of “Album of the Year” in several publications, as did 2011’s follow up album “The Agent That Shapes The Desert”, which was released on the band’s own label Virulent Music.

VIRUS’ long awaited live debut came in 2011, and aside from club appearances and tours in both Europe and the USA since then, the band has appeared at a variety of prestigious festivals.

More information about VIRUS can be found on their website at http://virusnorway.com/ or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/virusnorwayofficial

With its fast growing reputation as a significant player in the Progressive Music field Karisma Records has today launched its own  YouTube channel, which will be used to showcase its roster of bands.  Launching the channel is “Wasteland” the new video from Karisma’s latest signing Prog Rockers RENDEZVOUS POINT.  “Wasteland”  itself was released today as a single and the video can be seen below and on the new Karisma Records YouTube channel  which can be found at https://www.youtube.com/c/KarismarecordsNor

Commenting on the new YouTube channel Karisma had this to say: “Right now we only have a handful of videos up, but we are aiming at having a wide-range of videos, both live and studio, where fans can come and get a taste of what Karisma Records and our bands have to offer.  We are particularly keen to get fans involved in the channel too.  We are always seeing fan-filmed live footage, or fan-made videos of their favourite tracks, some of which are very good, so if there is anyone out there who would like us to feature their videos of one of our bands on the Karisma Records channels, feel free to contact us through YouTube or our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/karismarecords

The release of the  “Wasteland” single  is the first collaboration between RENDEZVOUS POINT and Karisma, in the run-up to the band’s upcoming  debut full-length album due to hit the streets in  August.   Hailing from the southern part of the country,  RENDEZVOUS POINT boasts a lineup of musicians with considerable pedigrees.  Vocals are handled by  Geirmund Hansen, who many will recognise through his appearance on the Norwegian edition of The Voice, whilst the rest of the lineup consists of Petter Hallaråker on guitar (ICS VORTEX, SOLEFALD), Nicolay Tangen Svennæs on keyboard (EMILIE NICOLAS), Gunn-Hilde Erstad on bass and Baard Kolstad on drums.  As well as being a member of  bands such as LEPROUS, BORKNAGAR, ICS VORTEX, ABBATH, GOD SEED, drummer Kolstad won the  Roland V-Drums World Championship in California in 2012.

With their fourth full-length album “King For A Day”  set to be released on Karisma Records on the 25th May,  Norwegian Prog Rockers MAGIC PIE have debuted  a music video for the opening track  from the upcoming release on Prog Magazine – Team Rock.  The video for “Trick Of The Trade” can be seen at http://prog.teamrock.com/news/2015-04-17/magic-pie-reveal-trick-of-the-trade

Formed in Moss, Norway in 2001, MAGIC PIE have become a household name on the Prog Scene with their blend of Classic Prog and 70’s Hard Rock inspired by bands such as SPOCKS BEARD, DREAM THEATER, GENESIS, PINK FLOYD, THE FLOWER KINGS, TRANSATLANTIC, KANSAS, DEEP PURPLE, YES etc., and  consequently “King For A Day” is an album that is very much anticipated by Prog fans.

With artwork by Chris van der Linden of Linden Artworks and  mixed and mastered by Rich Mouser (SPOCKS BEARD, TRANSATLANTIC, NEAL MORSE, DREAM THEATER etc.) at The Mouse House Studios in Los Angeles, “King For A Day”  contains six tracks of Prog Rock that is at times melodic and epic, and, at others, heavy, and showcases the band’s superb vocal harmonies and skilled musicianship.  It is now available to pre-order direct from Karisma Records at http://karismarecords.bigcartel.com/artist/magic-pie
