With “Playing House”, their second full-length album, set to be released on Karisma Records on the 29th January, MEER have today released a new track from the album.

“Beehive” is the track they have selected for the new single, because, according to the band,

Beehive has been a long-time favourite on our live sets, and we love how the album version turned out. It’s sensual, chaotic, powerful and definitely one of our most hard hitting songs. The cinematic strings, heavy guitars and arpeggiated synthesizers create a suggestive drive over which Johanne gets to belt her heart out. We often work together composing as a collective, and for “Beehive” drummer Mats came up with the opening piano riff and then the rest of the band  added new parts, hooks and lyrics to it on several jams and rehearsals. We are thrilled to finally share this powerhouse with you!

“Beehive” can be streamed or downloaded from https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/MEER_Beehive

Back in 2008, when MEER started out, the band was simply a duo known as TED GLEN EXTENDED, before expanding the  lineup and becoming the MEER of today with eight members including Johanne Kippersund on vocals, Knut Kippersund on vocals, Eivind Strømstad on guitar, Åsa Ree on violin, Ingvild Nordstoga Eide on viola, Ole Gjøstøl on keyboards, Morten Strypet on bass and Mats Lillehaug on drums.

With such a large lineup, it was inevitable that a variety of styles and influences would find their way into MEER’s material, creating a sound that is an eclectic mix of orchestral pop, classical music and progressive rock.   It is a massive sound comprised of  fantastic melodies and harmonies, not to mention quite a few surprises along the way.

And there is nowhere better to hear just how varied the talents of MEER are than on “Playing House”,  which was Recorded at Ocean Sound Recording and Tanken, with producer Lars Gärtner Fremmerlid (EINAR STRAY ORCHESTRA) at the helm, and which will be available in CD, Digital and DLP formats, and which can now be pre-order from the following:

Norwegian Black Metal icon Hoest has cast some positivity into the hell that has been 2020, with the release of two TAAKE 10″split EPs, one with DEATHCULT (on Edged Circle Productions) and one with WHOREDOM RIFE (on Terratur Possessions), and now, as the year draws to a close, a third split has been announced.

The new EP will see TAAKE join forces with HELHEIM, and will be the last of the three 10″ splits.  Titled ”Henholdsvis”  the EP will appear on Bergen’s eponymous Dark Essence Records, the long-time label of both bands,  and is set for release on the 5th March 2021.

For “Henholdsvis” TAAKE has recorded two new tracks, “Brotne Bein og Mannefall” and “Ein Baat i Foss”,  whose lyrics are based on poems by the famed Norwegian writer Arne Garborg (1851-1924).  With these new tracks, the band has produced the kind of Black Metal fans crave – dark, cold and gritty.

HELHEIM, on the other hand, will present two covers.  The first is a re-mastered version of EMPEROR’s “Heksesabbat / Witches Sabbath”, which originally appeared on the tribute album “A Tribute to Emperor – In Honour of Icon E” in 2012, and which has now been totally remastered.  For the second of the two covers HELHEIM have chosen to go down a very interesting  path by recording a very different,  and original, version of “Orkan” , from TAAKE’s  “Noregs Vaapen” album.

Recorded by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) at his Conclave and Earshot Studios in the bands’ hometown of Bergen, and with artwork by H’grimnir, tracklisting for “Henholdsvis” is as follows:

1. Brotne Bein og Mannefall – Taake
2. Ein Baat i Foss – Taake
3. Orkan – Helheim
4. Heksesabbat – Helheim

“Henholdsvis” will be released in 10″ black vinyl as well as in red, white and blue vinyl, limited to 333 copies each.  It will also be available in digital format and can now be pre-order from the following:

Dark Essence Records have unleashed “The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower”, a devastating new single and video taken from the upcoming album from Norwegian Black Metallers ENDEZZMA.  The album itself,  titled  “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, will be the band’s third full-length to date, and will launch the label’s 2021 releases.

“The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower”  can be streamed or downloaded at https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/thenameofthenight

The video for “The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower”  can be seen blow and at https://youtu.be/FLwlxcdbL_I

Here is what the band have to say about the track:

With The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower, we open the tunnels to The Archer’s mythical universe and oppressive landscape. As we let the philosophical perception of death collide with the sight of a grand epic awakening.

Who are we and what do we chase and hunt for if not a greater, intense progress of our burning idol known as death? Or, The Archer when he, upon his arrival announces: The Name Of The Night Is A Strong Tower.

ENDEZZMA was formed in 2006 by frontman M. Shax,  and the band’s  current lineup includes a plethora of talented and experienced musicans.  Together,  M. Shax  on vocals, M. Malphas on guitars, Nihil on Rythm Guitar,  Skriu on  Drums and Aske on bass, demonstrate a  brand of brutal, fiercely intense, and yet aesthetically mystical approach to their music.

“The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, was recorded at the Vika Studio and the Malpherno Studio in Norway, and was mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm, and with it, ENDEZZMA have taken a huge step forward in their song writing, and produced an album that bridges the gap between dark anthems and primitive aggression.

The cover art for “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” is by Stefan Todorovic/Kahos Diktator Design, and the tracklisting is as follows:

  1. The Awakening
  2. The Name of the Night is a Strong Tower
  3. Anomalious Abomination
  4. The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder
  5. Formless and Void
  6. Garden ov Heathen
  7. Wild Glorior Death
  8. Open Your Eyes and Stab the Sight
  9. Arrows of Equilibrium
  10. Closure

“The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” will hit the streets on the 22nd January,  and will be available in Digipak CD, digital and LP formats, with an A2 poster included with the vinyl version.  It is now available to pre-order from the following:

Karisma Records have revealed the details of “Playing House”, the sophomore full-length album from MEER, a band whose music is an eclectic mix of orchestral pop, classical music and progressive rock.

Scheduled for release on the 29th January 2021, Karisma Records have today, by way of a single taken from “Playing House”,  given us a glimpse into the massive sound comprised of  fantastic melodies and harmonies, not to mention quite a few surprises along the way, that we can expect to hear from the band.

The single, titled “Across the Ocean”, can be streamed or downloaded at https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/MEER_AcrossTheOcean

Commenting on “Across the Ocean”, MEER had this to say:

“Across the Ocean” is a song about wanting out. The song encapsulates the moment when you decide to let go of your fears end start a journey that may take you to a better place. What lies around the bend? On the other side of the sea? The song was made during a band getaway in the deep forests of Hedmark. Maybe that’s why it feels a little mysterious?

“Playing House, was Recorded at Ocean Sound Recording and Tanken, with producer Lars Gärtner Fremmerlid (EINAR STRAY ORCHESTRA) at the helm, and with artwork by Helena Haglund and Simen Skari, tracklisting for “Playing House”  is as follows:

1. Picking Up the Pieces
2. Beehive
3. All at Sea
4. Songs of Us
5. Child
6. You were a Drum
7. Honey
8. Across the Ocean
9. She Goes
10. Where do We Go from Here?
11. Lay it Down
Vinyl only bonus track:
12. Here I Go Again (Whitesnake cover)

Formed in Hamar, Norway, in 2008, originally as a duo known as TED GLEN EXTENDED, MEER has expanded its lineup to eight members, comprising Johanne Kippersund on vocals, Knut Kippersund on vocals, Eivind Strømstad on guitar, Åsa Ree on violin, Ingvild Nordstoga Eide on viola, Ole Gjøstøl on keyboards, Morten Strypet on bass and Mats Lillehaug on drums.

The additional members  brought with them their own individual styles and musical interests and influences, and it is therefore not surprising that MEER’s music is as eclectic, and interesting, as it is today.

“Playing House” will be available in CD, Digital and DLP formats, and is now available to pre-order from:

Following the release of three full-length album and a mini album, all very successful and highly acclaimed, Karisma Records have renewed their contract with AIRBAG co-founder, songwriter and lead guitarist BJØRN RIIS, who has already begun work on his fourth full-length, anticipated for release during 2021, and who had this to say about his continued collaboration with the label:

“I’m very excited to sign a new deal with Karisma Records. We’ve had some very positive and productive years together and I’m looking forward to further developing that relationship, with some very cool things to come.”

A much-respected guitarist within the musical community, BJØRN ‘s  interest in music started while still a teenager, when guitar-led bands were at the forefront and spearheaded the rise of the Progressive Rock movement.   It was this movement, together with Electronica and Movie Scores, that influenced the young guitarist,  leading  him to develop a style filled with soaring leads and gorgeous textures.

“I have always felt that the guitar is an extension of me and a more comfortable and natural way of expressing myself musically” is how BJØRN views his relationship with music, and this has certainly been reflected in his previous releases, two of which, 2014’s “Lullabies in a Car Crash” and 2017’s “Forever Comes to an End”, will be re-released next year, and more details will follow.

BJØRN ‘s interest in, and knowledge of, the guitar, and all things related, have resulted in his very successful YouTube channel, where you can find  guitar tutorials and equipment related matters The channel, called “gilmourish RIIS” can be seen  at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6JRXuFfSeZ1AzenPh_krpA

With their much-anticipated new album “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” set to launch Dark Essence Records 2021 releases, ENDEZZMA have today released a single and a new video from the album, giving fans both an audio, and visual taste of what they can expect from the Norwegian Black Metallers.

The single, titled “Anomalious Abomination” can be streamed or downloaded at  https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Endezzma_AnomaliousAbomination

About the video itself, which can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/liO-pALsNr0  the band had this to say:

“Anomalious Abomination” is the first video from  The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder’s dark infernal paradise. The music and track itself,  as well the visuals of the video,  is a rabid, fierce and infernal bestial “kick off” to the Archers mythical universe of perseverance, liberation and progress. This video is the first in a trinity of collaborations with the brilliant, artistic and Mephistophelic video director Guilherme Henriques,  and his way of working out the inner energy of the band. Let’s open the doors:

The law of the house celebrates death
The law of the house celebrates wild flesh on fire
Follow the archer’s arrow
Through the haze and the heart of your desire

Having recently signed a two-album deal with ENDEZZMA, Dark Essence  Records have today announced  the details of “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, the third full-length album from the Norwegian Black Metallers, and which is set to herald in the new year when it hits the streets on the 22nd January 2021.

Formed in 2006 by frontman M. Shax,  ENDEZZMA’s  current lineup, includes M. Malphas on guitars, Nihil on Rythm Guitar,  Skriu on  Drums and Aske on bass, forming a cohesive group of musicians who together demonstrate a  brand of brutal, fiercely intense, and yet aesthetically mystical approach to their music.

With “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, ENDEZZMA have taken a huge step forward in their song writing.  Mixing the raw grimness of the early days of black metal with the epic grandeur of later bands, to produce an album that bridges the gap between dark anthems and primitive aggression.

Recorded at the Vika Studio and the Malpherno Studio in Norway, “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder”, was mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna at the Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm.  With cover painting by Stefan Todorovic/Kahos Diktator Design, the album will be available in Digipak CD and LP formats, with an A2 poster included with the vinyl version.

Tracklisting for “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” is as follows:

  1. The Awakening
  2. The Name of the Night is a Strong Tower
  3. Anomalious Abomination
  4. The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder
  5. Formless and Void
  6. Garden ov Heathen
  7. Wild Glorior Death
  8. Open Your Eyes and Stab the Sight
  9. Arrows of Equilibrium
  10. Closure

Commenting on the album ENDEZZMA had this to say:

We are excited to finally bring out the news and details of “The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder” because this is an album into which we really have placed not just a piece of our heart but also our  whole soul.  Never before have we worked as hard and as determinedly on every little detail of an album.  In it we really see the band arise out of the ashes as a new golden entity, with a hunger  that is more rabid than ever, filled with the desire to set the world ablaze with our music.

We feel that the album takes the band into a new epic and mythical landscape and sends  the listeners out on an  infernal , intense, and epic journey to a dark and obscure world that is lit by the archer’s flaming arrows of equilibrium, wild glorious death and anomalious abomination.

“The Archer Fjord and the Thunder” should be considered as a concept album, and we invite you into our world of stellar darkness, to explore our path of burning devotion…We are Endezzma  “

With their much anticipated fifth full-length album “Dwellers of the Deep” set for release on Karisma Records on the 23rd October, Prog Rockers WOBBLER have today released “Naiad Dreams”, a new single from the album, together with an  accompanying video for the track.

“Naiad Dreams” is available to stream or download at https://karismarecords.fanlink.to/Naiad_Dreams

Whilst the video, which is a live version of the track, filmed live in Wobblers rehearsal space, can be seen below and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/H0rjTxL15Yg

“Naiad Dreams” is special in the way that it’s our first foray into a short song that stands on its own. It came to life late in the recording process and was written and recorded on an inspired May morning. It’s a rather minimalistic composition with very few elements that gets plenty of room to shine. It is the breathing space on the coming album where playful naiads make you gaze into the depths.

Consisting of four distinctive pieces, “Dwellers of the Deep” is an album that builds on everything that WOBBLER has achieved so far, and takes the band in new musical directions with both carefully planned pieces and passionately jammed compositions. It is an album that is open, detailed, warm and punchy, and one that showcases why WOBBLER is considered to be one of the most exciting and and interesting bands on the global music scene, independent of genre.

Formed in Hønefoss in 1999, WOBBLER’s lineup features Lars Fredrik Frøislie on keyboards and backing vocals, Martin Nordrum Kneppen on drums, percussion and recorder, Kristian Karl Hultgren on bass, Andreas Wettergreen Strømman Prestmo on vocals, guitar, glockenspiel, recorder and percussion and Geir Marius Bergom Halleland on lead guitar and backing vocals.

The production on “Dwellers of the Deep”  highlights the aural idiosyncrasies of the Norwegian quintet, and the  soundscapes put together by Frøislie are a vertitable feast for the ears . With cover illustration by Athanasius Kircher, and graphic design by Thomas Kaldhol , track listing for “Dwellers of the Deep”  is as follows:

1. By the Banks (13:49)
2. Five Rooms (08:28)
3. Naiad Dreams (04:24)
4. Merry Macabre (19:00)

“Dwellers Of The Deep” will be available in Digipak CD and digital formats, as well as in four different 180 gram gatefold vinyl editions; black vinyl, two different limited edition coloured vinyls, and a limited edition transparent vinyl. All the limited editions come with a poster.

VESTINDIEN  might not be a band that is immediately recognisable to most music fans, but that’s about to change, because the Bergen-based  band has just been snapped up by Dark Essence Records.

Formed in 2009, VESTINDIEN’s first, and up to now, only, release, was 2011’s debut EP “We are the Lords of Hellfire”, which delivered classic 90’s hardcore, with a heavy metal twist.  But only one year after its release, and despite having built up a solid following eager to experience the band’s  frenetic live shows, VESTINDIEN called it a day.

Absolute silence followed for the next seven years, until, in 2019, some of the band members got together and decided that VESTINDIEN needed to make music again.  And make music is exactly what the band’s current lineup of Torjus Slettnosk on vocals, Simon Skøien on guitars, Karl Johan Johannessen on drums and Pål Eirik Veseth on bass did, demonstrating a more introverted and less aggressive approach to their art.

It was at this point that  Dark Essence entered the picture, as Slettsnok explains:

Dark Essence was the only label we contacted when the album was finished. It was important to us that the label be based in Bergen, with people we trust. The only other option would have been to do it ourselves.

We were of course very happy when they felt the same way as we do about our music and we are looking forward to collaboration with the very good people of Dark Essence.

Meer 2020 PR2

Karisma Records have welcomed alternative pop orchestra MEER into its capacious fold.

MEER started out as a duo known as TED GLEN EXTENDED, in Hamar, Norway, in 2008, and, since then, the duo have expanded considerably, to become,  what is today,  an eight-piece eclectic collective whose music is a mix of orchestral pop, classical music and progressive rock. With their grandiose string arrangements and polyphonic vocals, MEER’s sound is far from minimalistic and flows in seemingly constant motion.

Today’s lineup comprises Johanne Kippersund on vocals, Knut Kippersund on vocals, Eivind Strømstad on guitar, Åsa Ree on violin, Ingvild Nordstoga Eide on viola, Ole Gjøstøl on piano, Morten Strypet on bass and Mats Lillehaug on drums, and this is what the band had to say about their decision to join Karisma Records:

We are absolutely thrilled to be signing with Karisma Records! We have been working on this album for a long time, and are super excited to be teaming up with a record company with so much knowledge and passion for progressive music. To be a part of their great list of artists is an honour, and we couldn’t be happier.

Karisma have not yet announced a release date for “Playing House”, which will be a follow up to MEER’s 2016, self-titled album. Recorded at the Ocean Sound Recording and Tanken, with producer Lars Gärtner Fremmerlid (EINAR STRAY ORCHESTRA) “Playing House”  will see MEER taking their prog pop one step further in both directions!
