Virus Album Artwork PR

Album Art by Trine + Kim Design Studio

The 3rd June has been set as the release date for “Memento Collider”, the fourth full-length album from Experimental Hard Rockers VIRUS.   The album, with cover art by the Trine + Kim Design Studio (http://www.trineogkim.no/ ), will appear on Karisma Records, who recently signed the band.

Whilst no further details about “Memento Collider” are currently available, the self-styled  wayward Norwegian trio will give fans a taste of what is to come at Blastfest in Bergen on the 18th February, where they will showcase several tracks from the album.

VIRUS rose from the ashes of 90’s avant-garde black metal project VED BUENS ENDE in 2000 when  guitarist and vocalist Carl “Czral” Michael Eide had the idea of creating a new kind of experimental metal / rock.  Together with bassist Petter “Plenum” Berntsen and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø they released their first, and only,  demo that same year.  Three full-length studio albums followed, together with tours in Europe and the USA and a plethora of festival appearances.

It’s been almost six years since the release of “Torturmantra”, the sophomore full-length album from Norwegian Black Metallers GRAVDAL, and in those years the band has undergone a few changes, with the previously announced departure of guitarist Specter, who left to concentrate on other projects,  as well as vocalist Galge who quit the music business.

Now GRAVDAL is back with a strong new lineup which, aside from founders Phobos (drums in AETERNUS, live drummer GORGOROTH) on guitars and backing vocals and Taakesjel on drums, the new lineup includes some heavy hitters in the form of Eld (KRAKOW, AETERNUS) on bass and vocals and Saur (DOMINANZ) on guitars.

Gravdal PR4

Eld & Saur

With the band currently hard at work on what will be their third full-length studio album, and with the new lineup due to hit the stage at Blastfest this week,  GRAVDAL have released a Rough Mix of a track from the album.  The track, titled “Domino” can be heard below and at https://soundcloud.com/gravdal/domino-rough-mix

x
The album is currently being recorded at Mackwerk Recording in the band’s hometown of Bergen, with producer Lord Bård at the helm.  Other than to say that the album will be called “Kadaverin”, and that the music is by Phobos and the lyrics by Phobos and Eld, no other details are available at the moment.  Phobos did, however, recently say:  “With our second album, “Torturmantra”,  we took a huge step forward, expanding the range of the band considerably, so rest assured that with “Kadaverin” we will be taking things even further”.

Commenting on the new lineup Phobos had this to say: “Shortly after Specter announced he was leaving, Galge let us know that he would be quitting the music business.  We didn’t announce anything at the time because we wanted to have everything in place first, so we’d like to take the opportunity now to thank him for all his work and all the good times together.

“We are, however, extremely happy with the addition of Eld and Saur to the lineup, and more than excited about bringing the new lineup to Blastfest.  They are musicians of the highest calibre who we have known on a personal and professional level for a long time, and there is no doubt that their input has brought a new vitality to GRAVDAL.  The track we are debuting is very much a rough mix, but we wanted to give fans a taste of the new GRAVDAL, and with Blastfest coming up, we thought this would be a good time to do it”.

Norway’s sister labels Dark Essence Records and Karisma Records have expanded their North American operations with new distribution deals which sees  the label’s catalogues distributed physically by Sony RED, whist The Orchard will handle all the digital distribution.

In addition, to meet the ever-growing demand from fans,  the two Bergen-based labels have joined forces with AISA (http://www.aisamusic.com/ )  to open their own new North American webshops.  “We have always been aware that the cost of postage from Europe in general, and Scandinavian countries in particular, is very high, and, with both labels having grown so rapidly over the past few  years, and demand from North American fans increasing daily, we thought it was time to offer those  fans a fairer  deal”, commented the label’s Bjornar Erevik Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES).   “We are very excited to work with AISA on our new North America set up. For us this is a unique opportunity to get into this market on terms that are tailor made for our catalogue, size and profile. The new setup offers us a much higher level of control and market insight than before, and we expect sales and exposure to increase significantly. So far our experience with AISA have been very positive and we are happy to further pursue the cooperation.”

With  output differing  greatly one from the other, Dark Essence and Karimsa Records are not just used to working with established,  internationally recognised bands.  They have both also garnered a reputation for being able to sniff out some of the best new local and international bands and help them to grow and develop.  As Nilsen  went on to explain “We do not see ourselves as just businessmen whose job happens  to be running labels, as if often the case these days.  Everyone working directly with us is heavily involved in music, either as musicians, managers or huge fans,  so for us it’s a matter of pride to discover and nurture the talent that is out there.  The expansion into North America will help us to support our artists with merchandise that is printed in the USA itself, thereby helping to reduce costs whilst touring, which, as everyone knows,  is massively expensive undertaking for bands.  We have also appointed a local label manager, and we have a good network of people over there, who will be able to help our artists further”.

Dark Essence Records is well known in the fields Black Metal and the more Extreme Metal  genres and their roster contains some very high profile bands, some of whom have been around for well over two decades, as well as some of the most exciting relatively new musicians to have appeared on the scene. The label’s roster includes TAAKE, HELHEIM, HADES ALMIGHTY, AETERNUS, COR SCORPII, SARKOM, SLEGEST, THE 3rd ATTEMPT, ALFAHANNE,  SULPHUR, GALAR, KRAKOW, MOMENTUM, ORKAN, LUCIFER’S CHILD,  MISTUR, HAIL SPIRIT NOIR, RATTENFÄNGER, THE BATALLION.  The new Dark Essence Records North American webshop will be celebrating its opening  by making some rare test pressings available for purchase.  The webshop can be found at http://darkessence.aisamerch.com/

DarkEssencePR

Karisma Records, on the other hand,  concentrates on the more Rock-oriented and Progressive side of the musical spectrum and the label’s roster contains much-respected veterans such as  AIRBAG, VIRUS, MAGIC PIE, D’ACCORD, BJORN RIIS, BRIMSTONE and NORDAGUST,  and fast rising bands such as TIEBREAKER, OSSICLES, SEVEN IMPALE, RENDEZVOUS POINT,  FATAL FUSION.  To celebrate the launch of the Karisma Records North American webshop, the label will also be making some rare test pressings available for purchase.  The Karisma Records North American webshop can be found at http://karismarecords.aisamerch.com/

slegest3pr_zps9e321bc3

It’s  been a couple of years since Norway’s SLEGEST released their debut full-length album on Dark Essence Records to much critical acclaim, and with fans wondering when they can expect to hear more, the band have today revealed that their sophomore  album is well on the way to completion.  The new work is being recorded and mixed at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen,  with VULTURE INDUSTRIES Bjørnar Erevik Nilsen at the helm.  With mixing just about finished, the album is set for release on Dark Essence Records during 2016.

SLEGEST was formed in 2010 by former VREID guitarist ESE, originally with the intention of playing BLACK SABBATH inspired music with harsh vocals.  Not one to leave a good idea to languish, Ese took the concept further and  SLEGEST grew  into the rock-orientated entity it is today, with a sound that is distinguished by a very definite Black Metal edge, and which Metal Hammer described as a “focused attempt to marry the atmospheres and primitivism of the blackened hordes to the rumbling swagger of prime BLACK SABBATH and the best strident old-school metal… with a subtle melodic sense that owes its leather-clad backside to DIO, PRIEST and even SCORPIONS”.

SLEGEST’s first release was the self-titled 2012 EP, which appeared as both a digital release and as a 7” vinyl on Ese’s own label Systrond Recordings.   With Norway’s Dark Essence Records, a label that has, over the years, demonstrated an uncanny ability to spot some the best local talent around, snapping up the band, SLEGEST’s debut full-length album “Løyndom” appeared in the autumn of 2013.  The response to  “Løyndom” convinced Ese that this was a project that needed to be made into a full-blown live band, and with Ese (ex-VREID) on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER) on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums, SLEGEST hit the road with TAAKE and earned themselves a whole new set of admirers.

Commenting on what fans can expect from their sophomore album, Ese had this to say:  “We will pick up where we left off with “Løyndom” – mid-paced heaviness in all its glory and filth. I have read blackened doom applied as a description to our music.  But really you need to add a good dose of rock and then you might get the idea of what we are all about. There is so much to explore in our world of heavy rock and we are proud of our new songs which, to our ears – and, after all,  we are the blueprint –  sounds bloody brilliant. The album will of course deal with death, and, since I write all the music and spend plenty of time thinking about death, I guess it is safe to say that we are most likely onto something”.
