With their debut full-length album “Solar Storm” set for release on Karisma Records on the 6th October , and with an extensive European tour supporting LEPROUS about to begin, Prog Metallers RENDEZVOUS POINT have today debuted a new music video for the track “Para”, which also serves as a chance to hear a track from the new  album.  Directed by David Solbjørg at Twichy Films, the video has been debuted on legacy.de and can be seen at http://www.legacy.de/

RENDEZVOUS POINT’s individual members come from a variety of different musical backgrounds ranging from Classical to Pop to Metal, and several members play in some of Norway’s top bands.  The  lineup, which is composed of Geirmund Hansen on vocals, Baard Kolstad on drums (LEPROUS, BORKNAGAR, ICS VORTEX), Petter Hallaråker on guitar (ICS VORTEX, SOLEFALD), Nicolai Tangen Svennæs on keyboards (EMILIE NICOLAS) and Gunn-Hilde Erstad on bass, create a unique sound which is able to balance a mix of technicality, heavy riffs, epic harmonies and breathtaking melodies.

“Solar Storm” pushes the boundaries of the Progressive Metal genre with its unique sound and compositions.  The album was, for the most part, written by keyboardist Svennæs and guitarist Hallaråker, with the rest of the band taking care of the arrangements.  It is this collaborative effort that allows the listener to hear touches of each of the musician’s characteristic sound, such as Kolstad’s intense rhythms and Hansen’s beautiful melodies.  It was Hansen and bass guitarist Gunn-Hilde Erstad who collaborated with the lyrics for “Solar Storm,  whose subject focuses on human relations and self-destructive behaviour.

Mixed by Christer  André Cederberg and Jens Bogren, and mixed and mastered by Tony Lindgren,  all at Fascination Street Studios, and with album art by Costin Chioreanu, track listing for the seven-track album is as follows

1. Through The Solar Storm
2. Wasteland
3. Para
4. The Hunger
5. Mirrors
6. The Conclusion pt.1
7. The Conclusion pt.2

With their debut full-length album “Born in Thorns” newly released, the 3RD ATTEMPT, the new band from former CARPATHIAN FOREST guitarists Tchort (GREEN CARNATION, ex-CARPATHIAN FOREST, ex EMPEROR, ex BLOOD RED THRONE) and BloodPervertor ( ex-CARPATHIAN FOREST) have debuted a lyric video for the track “Sons of the Winter”.  With live footage shot by Svein Erik Nomeland of Artistfoto.no at  the band’s recent appearance at the Southern Discomfort Festival, and with still photography by Anders Berg and Paul Sigakis, the video can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/MUSsV_Ng-4M

The 3rd ATTEMPT was formed  in late 2014, immediately following the announcement by the two guitarists that they were quitting CARPATHIAN FOREST, one of Norway’s most iconic Black Metal bands.  The duo were driven to their decision by a need to work on a project that took them out of an environment where they felt they had been growing stale, and by the desire to once again feel the rush of creativity and enthusiasm they felt had been lacking over the past few years.

Former MIDNATTSVREDE vocalist  Ødemark  joined the band after an internet search that drew applicants from all over the world, both from new and well known bands, and the lineup was completed by drummer Tybalt (FORTID, DEN SAAKALDTE).  After considering a number of offers from various labels, the 3rd ATTEMPT inked a deal with Bergen’s Dark Essence Records which led to the release of “Born in Thorns” on the 25th September of this year,  in both CD and digital formats, with a vinyl edition set to be released in December.

Having already appeared at a number of festivals in Norway, the 3rd ATTEMPT will be joining label-mates TAAKE for a handful of dates on the band’s upcoming European tour and will support NIKLAS KVARFORTH’s SHINING on their Norwegian dates.  Confirmed upcoming live dates as follows:

05 Oct:  Razz 3,  Barcelona, Spain (with TAAKE + ORKAN)
06 Oct:  Caracol,  Madrid, Spain (with TAAKE + ORKAN)
08 Oct:  Glazart,  Paris, France (with TAAKE + ORKAN)
09 Oct:  Underworld,  London , UK (with TAAKE + ORKAN)
26 Nov: The Garage, Bergen, Norway (with SHINING)
27 Nov: Pokalen, Oslo, Norway (with SHINING)
28 Nov: Byker Grave Festival, Newcastle, UK
2016
19 Feb: Blastfest, Bergen, Norway

Within a very few short months of announcing the band’s formation, Scandinavian Black Metallers NORDJEVEL have inked a two album deal with France’s Osmose Productions, and, whilst no exact date for the debut full-length album has been set, it is expected that the album, which will be titled “Nordjevel”,  will appear before the end of the year.

New though the band may be, its members, which include Doedsadmiral (SVARTELDER, DOEDSVANGR) on vocals, Nord (FATAL IMPACT, TVANGESTE, BYRDI) on guitars and bass, and Fredrik Widigs (MARDUK) on drums, have a wealth of experience and include some prominent musicians from the Scandinavian scene. It is a lineup whose debut track instantly caused a flurry of interest amongst Black Metal fans and media alike, and attracted a number of offers from serious labels.

Commenting on the decision to sign with Osmose, the band said: “They offered us a very good deal of course, but they also didn’t tie us up with a lot of conditions and restrictions which was a very important factor for us . The label has also worked with SLAGMAUR, which is one of our manager’s bands, so everyone already knows how everyone else works, and hopefully it will all be a seamless operation and a strong partnership”.

NORDJEVEL was founded by frontman Doedsadmiral (who was formerly known as Djevel, but who changed his name for the sake of consistency in all his projects) and guitarist Nord earlier this year, when, following a series of conversations the two found that they shared the same views on Black Metal, the Occult and the origins of Norway.  The two Norwegians were soon joined by Sweden’s Fredrik Widigs on drums, who fitted right in and contributed significantly to the writing and arranging on the album. Whilst Widigs’ commitment to his other projects pretty much preclude him from committing to appearing live with the band on anything other than the odd occasion, he is, nevertheless a full-time and committed studio member.

NORDJEVEL, which translated means “Northern Devil” are currently putting the finishing touches to the album and the artwork, which itself promises to be something very special, and are preparing for live appearance.  It has already been revealed that TROLL’s Nagash will be one of the guests on the album, and more information will be revealed in the near future.

As a taste of what to expect NORDJEVEL recently debuted the track “Denne Tidløse Krigsdom” both on SoundCloud at https://soundcloud.com/nordjevelofficial/denne-tidlose-krigsdom  and on YouTube in a video by Prometheus Art & Design, and which can be seen below or at https://youtu.be/MVhzOjhJNOI

Karisma Records has today announced details of their upcoming release from Rockers TIEBREAKER.  Set to hit the streets  on the 6th November in CD, digital and vinyl formats,   “We Come From The Mountains” was, in fact, originally self-released in Norway in 2014 on the band’s own label.  Now, finally, Karisma Records will bring TIEBREAKERS storming blend of classic 70’s rock brought right up to date and teamed with a dirty contemporary blues sound to a world-wide audience.  And fans of LED ZEPPELIN, RIVAL SONS, DEEP PURPLE and WOLFMOTHER will not fail to be delighted by its release.

Artwork is by Robert Høyem from Overhaus (www.overhaus.no).  Tracklisting on “We Come From The Mountains” as follows:

1. Early Morning Love Affair
2. Nicotine
3. Homebound pt 1
4. The Getaway

“Halfway Homes”,  the opening track from “Music for Wastelands”, the upcoming album from Jazz Prog Rockers OSSICLES, which is set for release on Karisma Records on the 6th November,  has been debuted today and can be heard below and at https://soundcloud.com/karisma-records/ossicles-halfway-homes

All instruments and vocals on the 14-track album are performed by cousins Bastian and Sondre Veland, who formed the band in 2011, with  guest appearances from Erlend Furuset Jenssen (saxophone) and Karin Mäkiranta (vocals).  Artwork for “Music for Wastelands” is by Randi Veland and track listing is as follows:

1. Halfway Homes
2. Darkroom
3. Tectonic
4. Will It Last?
5. Family Tree
6. Exit Wound
7. Pale Summer Nails
8. The Red Heart
9. Goodnight Ghosts
10. In the Stereo
11. Girl with the Glass Eye
12. Pandemonium
13. Porcelain Doll
14. Music for Wastelands

The two Veland cousins had this to say about the album:  “Music for Wastelands”  has a concept and a story that is told through the songs, and it’s composed as a single musical piece, which is something that will probably become clear the  more you hear it, because it’s meant to be an album in which you can hear something new every time you listen to it. The structure itself is inspired by DAVID BOWIE’s album “Low”, where the more immediate songs – the ones that are easiest to like –  appear first, and the more experimental songs come at the end.  There are few limitations when it comes to genres, and the album features a lot of different styles, something that was necessary in order to properly portray the concept and the story.

“Very importantly, we  both agree that with “Music for Wastelands” we have been able to define our own individual style and sound much more clearly, and we now sound more like ourselves rather than the music that originally inspired us”.

OSSICLES debut album “Mantlepiece” was originally self-released to much critical acclaim from the likes of musicians such PORCUPINE TREE’s STEVEN WILSON who said of it “I can’t believe that such young guys can make music like they do”, and MIKE PORTNOY, who, on the strength of the album, invited the band to appear live.  “Mantlepiece” was re-released earlier this year on Karisma Records.

Although as a band NORDJEVEL is a newcomer to the scene, the individual musicians definitely are not.  With a lineup that includes Djevel (SVARTELDER, DOEDSVANGR) on vocals, Nord (FATAL IMPACT, BYRDI) on guitars and bass, and Fredrik Widigs on drums, NORDJEVEL have not wasted any time in getting down to writing and recording material for their debut full-length album. Nor have they wasted any time in allowing fans to have a taste of what to expect from this combination of Norwegian and Swedish musicians, and have today debuted the track “Denne Tidløse Krigsdom” both on SoundCloud at https://soundcloud.com/nordjevelofficial/denne-tidlose-krigsdom  or on YouTube in a video by Prometheus Art & Design which can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/MVhzOjhJNOI

NORDJEVEL, which translated means Northern Devil, was formed by Djevel and Nord earlier this year, when, after having had various conversations, they found that their views on Black Metal, the Occult and the origins of Norway were perfectly in synch.  When the idea of the band was mentioned to Swedish Drummer Fredrik Widigs, he was interested enough to join the lineup.  Although his commitments to his other projects preclude him from committing to appearing live with the band, he will nevertheless be a full-time studio member of NORDJEVEL and contribute significantly to writing and arranging the music along with Djevel and Nord.

The band are currently in the pre-production stage of their debut album, which will be titled “Djevelen I Nord” and includes guest appearances from TROLL’s Nagash amongst others.  A label is currently being sought.

Norwegian Avant-garde rockers VIRUS have signed a deal with Karisma Records that will see the label release the band’s fourth full-length album.  Alongside a recent busy touring schedule, VIRUS have been writing and honing material for the new album which will be titled “Memento Collider”, and the band is currently at work on it in studio. “Memento Collider” is scheduled for release this winter, and more details will follow.

VIRUS was formed in 2000 from the ashes of 90’s avant-garde black metal project VED BUENS ENDE by Carl “Czral” Michael Eide with the idea of creating a new kind of experimental metal / rock. With Czral on guitars and vocals, he brought with him bassist Petter “Plenum” Berntsen and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø and the band recorded their only demo that same year.

Having been picked up almost immediately by Jester Records, VIRUS released their debut album “Carheart” in 2003, but Czral’s accident in 2005, which hospitalized him for a year, resulted in the band going on hiatus until the release of their sophomore album “The Black Flux” on Season of Mist in 2008. An album, incidentally, that earned them the title of “Album of the Year” in several publications, as did 2011’s follow up album “The Agent That Shapes The Desert”, which was released on the band’s own label Virulent Music.

VIRUS’ long awaited live debut came in 2011, and aside from club appearances and tours in both Europe and the USA since then, the band has appeared at a variety of prestigious festivals.

More information about VIRUS can be found on their website at http://virusnorway.com/ or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/virusnorwayofficial

Norway’s SUCHTHAUS, the band that defies genre type casting and for whom visuals play as big a role as the music itself, has released a tribute to the iconic Black Metal band MAYHEM, in the form of a video cover of the track “Life Eternal” from what is probably MAYHEM’s most famous album, 1994’s “De Misteriis Dom Sathanas”.   The cover features SUCHTHAUS members Spacebrain on vocals, Ingvar the Last Viking on guitars, Fruen on the organ, and Hellhammer, who is of course himself one of the original members of MAYHEM, on drums.  The video can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/44AbpTyWWiU

Whilst it may not come as a surprise that a band has recorded a MAYHEM cover, it is, in this case, more appropriate than the usual run of the mill tribute, given that SUCHTHAUS founder SPACEBRAIN, is the man behind many of MAYHEM’s most recognisable stage sets.   A renowned sculptor, as well as a musician, SPACEBRAIN had this to say about the tribute:

“Mayhem has survived hell for 30 years, and I was fortunate to play  a part during a few of those years, touring through Europe with the art of SPACEBRAIN from 2000-2006. This is a period of my life I will never forget, neither the good nor the bad experiences,  and  therefore SUCHTHAUS decided to put in some hard work to try to recreate the soundtrack that got stuck in my head: “Life Eternal”.   It´s far from a straight cover, but our vision was a way of thanking the men who let me be a part of their life (in alphabetical order) Atilla, Blasphemer, Hellhammer, Maniac, Necrobutcher”.

SUCHTHAUS is currently working putting the finishing touches on the band’s sophomore album “Motorbrain”, which, once finished, will be released on SUCHTHAUS’ own label Rollabigone.   Guests on the album incude SHINING founder and frontman Niklas Kvarforth.

“Motorbrain” will be the follow up to SUCHTHAUS’ debut  album “The Dark Side and the Bright Side”, which included collaborations from musicians such as Maniac  (SKITLIV, ex-MAYHEM),   CURRENT 93’s David Tibet, Fredrik A. Juell  (BURNING RUBBER,  BERSERK BASTARDS) and singer Sibob Jawara, and showed clearly how difficult it is to squeeze the band into any particular genre.   Whilst “Motorbrain” promises to be a much more “metal” album, it will definitely not be a “straight up” metal album, and the band is at pains to point out that it does not reflect  any direction that they have any  intention of following in the future.

More information about SUCHTHAUS can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/suchthausofficial  or on the band’s website at http://www.suchthaus.no/

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS will once again be showcasing some of its bands at Inferno Festival this year, with a lineup that includes TAAKE, GALAR, KRAKOW and MOMENTUM –  all bands who have recently released new albums on what is one of Norway’s most respected and growing labels.  The event will take place on Wednesday the 1st of April at Blå in Oslo, Norway.

For fans of  Norwegian Black Metal TAAKE needs no introduction.  After more than two decades of writing and performing his Helnorsk Svartmetall, frontman and founder Hoest still produces music which, whilst staying true to its roots,  manages to remain fresh, original and relevant in a genre that  is sadly lacking in all three attributes these days.    The band released its sixth full-length album  “Stridens hus” in December of last year, and proved once again that Hoest has lost none of his intensity and unpredictability, either in the studio or on the stage.

More information about TAAKE can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/taakeofficial

With their third full-length album “De gjenlevende” barely over a week old, GALAR is a Black-Folk Metal  band that is not scared to use non-traditional metal instruments including both a string quintet and a horn quartet.  These unusual elements are ideally suited to the epic nature of the six-track concept album and to the band’s music in general. GALAR’s  founders M. Kristiansen (screams, guitars and bass) and A. B. Lauritzen (clean vocals, bassoon and grand piano) recently announced that they had expanded the band’s lineup to include drummer Tomas Myklebust (ex-EMANCER, live session drums with VULTURE INDUSTRIES and VRIED), and have also added live session member Pól Nolsøe Jespersen on lead guitars.  Inferno Festival will be the first time fans will get a chance to see the new lineup on stage.

Formed in Bergen, Norway in the fall of of 2005, and their third full-length album “amaran” released in February of this year, KRAKOW’s lineup of highly skilled and experienced musicians consists of Kjartan Grønhaug on guitars, René Misje on guitars and vocals, Frode Kilvik (AETERNUS, VITHR) on vocals and bass,  and Ask Ty Arctander (KAMPFAR) on drums.   The Experimental Post Rockers will be back on the Blå stage with their dark, melodic and mysterious music, perfectly performed with the band’s usual intensity and dynamism.

Making their DARK ESSENCE RECORDS debut at Inferno this year will be one of the label’s more recent signings, Icelandic Progressive Doom Metallers MOMENTUM, whose sophomore full length album “The Freak is Alive” was also released in February.  MOMENTUM’s blend of atmospheric Post-Rock is reminiscent of Isis and Cult of Luna, with a Neurosis-esque level of bone-crushing heaviness interspersed with soft vocals and relaxed clean passages.  The band’s lineup consists of frontman Holaf, the man responsible for both MOMENTUM’s  lyrics and artwork, on vocals, bass and sitar, Ingvar Sæmundsson on guitar and vocals, Kristján Einar Guðmundsson on drums, and Sigurður Árni Jónsson on guitar and vocals.
