KARISMA RECORDS TO RELEASE SECOND VINYL FROM AIRBAG BACK CATALOGUE

Having announced last year that they would be releasing completely remastered vinyl editions of AIRBAG’s entire back catalogue, Karisma Records are now set to release “All Rights Removed”, the second in the series from the Norwegian Prog Rockers.

“All Rights Removed”, the band’s sophomore full-length album, was originally released in 2011 and the vinyl version has long-been unavailable, so the February 8th release will be welcome news to the band’s many fans.

A follow up to 2009’s critically acclaimed debut “Identity”, “All Rights Removed” saw the band taking a huge step forward with an album that has a much darker atmosphere and much longer, more epic songs, without sacrificing AIRBAG’s distinctive sound.

Meticulously remastered for vinyl by White Willow mastermind Jacob Holm-Lupo, the new edition of “All Rights Removed” will be available on heavyweight double vinyl in transparent red, with a gatefold cover and printed inner sleeves. Formed in Oslo, Norway in 2004 AIRBAG’s music is best described as scenic, epic rock, the band’s lineup consists of Bjørn Riis (guitars, keyboards, backing vocals, bass, co-producer), Asle Tostrup (vocals, keyboards, programming, producer, graphic design), Henrik Fossum (drums) .

AIRBAG’s next live appearance will be on the 18th January at the John Dee, in Oslo, Norway, and will be followed by a trip to the Caribbean where the band will appearing at the Cruise to the Edge Proggers of the Caribbean event on board the Brilliance of the Seas in February.

Norwegian Black Metallers NORDJEVEL, whose self-titled debut full-length album was released on Osmose Produtions to great critical acclaim three years ago, are back with a vengeance with “Necrogenesis”, an album which sees the band’s core of founder and vocalist Doedsadmiral (SVARTELDER, DOEDSVANGR, ENEPSIGOS) and bassist DzeptiCunt (ex-RAGNAROK), being joined by Destruchtor (MYRKSKOG, ex-MORBID ANGEL) on guitars and backing vocals, and Dominator (ex-DARK FUNERAL) on drums.

The new arrivals have enabled NORDJEVEL to expand its musical horizons and produce an album that promises to be more ferocious than its predecessor, as Doedsadmiral explains:

With the addition of Destruchtor and Dominator to the band’s lineup, NORDJEVEL has never been so strong. “Necrogenesis” is a much darker and violent album. It is also more varied and mature, both musically and lyrically. We definitely did not want to get stuck in a rut and churn out an identikit version of our debut, and fortunately we all felt that we wanted to go in the same direction, so we were all able to work together extremely well on the new songs. Having said that, “Necrogenesis” was a hard bastard of an album to complete, and at times we felt that the universe was conspiring against us, so it became a very personal album for all of us.

FERVENT MIND vocalist and composer Live Sollid Schulerud had this to say about the track:

“Fervent” is a song about having lost your belief in people and in love, and having lived a life that was totally different from what you really wanted it to be. You have kind of closed the door to the life you wished for because you thought you didn’t have the guts to take the risk. But the door is still there in the back of your mind, and you suddenly feel an urge to open it and get away from the dull and comfortable.

Along with Live, who formed FERVENT MIND in 2014, the band’s lineup includes Simen Skrebergene on electric guitar, Martin Sandvik Gjerde on keyboards, Martin Skrebergene on electric bass, and Henrik Håland on drums. Together they have become known for their intense and energetic live performances and a captivating and progressive soundscape that merges experimental rock with elements from post rock and metal as well as dream pop, trip hop and contemporary jazz.

Dark Essence Records have kicked off 2019 with the release of a new single taken from “New Moon, the upcoming full-length album from the Norwegian doom/psych trio SUPERLYNX.

SUPERLYNX’s Pia Isaksen, who also did the artwork for “Indian Summer”, and for the album itself, has this to say about the track:

Indian summer is one of the more feel good songs on the album where we focussed on bringing out the positive aspect about surviving hard times. It is a mental gathering of strength and a celebration of finally being able to let go and move on. The title Indian Summer represents something that comes late but which is good. The scream in the last part of the song took all I had, and it really felt like an act of banishing lingering trauma.

SUPERLYNX was originally formed as a duo by drummer Ole Teigen and bassist/vocalist Pia Isaksen in 2013. However, after meeting with guitarist Daniel Bakken, coupled with his performance during rehearsals, SUPERLYNX became a fully fledged trio.

“New Moon” will be SUPERLYNX’s second full-length album and was recorded by the band themselves, with a little help from Ole Jørgen Moe, who recorded their debut album. Mixed by the band’s long-time sound engineer Amund Tømmerbakke, and mastered by Fridtjof Lindeman at Strype Audio, tracklisting for “New Moon” is as follows:

Karisma Records have inked a deal with LUCY IN BLUE, one of the rising stars of the Icelandic Progressive music scene and are set to release the band’s sophomore full-length album “In Flight” on the 12th April 2019, to coincide with the band’s appearance at the iconic Roadburn Festival in Tilburg on the 14th April.

Formed in 2013, LUCY IN BLUE released their self-titled debut album via Bandcamp in 2016, and, since then, the band’s young lineup of Arnaldur Ingi Jónsson on Keyboards and vocals, Kolbeinn Þórsson on Drums, Matthías Hlífar Mogensen on Bass and vocals, and Steinþór Bjarni Gíslason on Guitar and vocals have been stunning crowds in their native Iceland with their soaring guitar solos and intense build-ups that take the listener for a ride through the psychedelic soundscapes and the progressive song writing styles of the 1970’s.

Certainly their arrival at Karisma Records, gives LUCY IN BLUE the chance to bring their music to a much larger audience. Young though they may be, the band’s elaborate grooves and delicate chord movements are played with unique musicianship. Norway’s Karisma Records have found another up and coming band to add to their already impressive roster, in the shape of Experimental Rockers FERVENT MIND.

Formed in 2014 by vocalist and composer Live Sollid, FERVENT MIND draws its inspiration from bands such as PORCUPINE TREE, MEW, MASSIVE ATTACK, RADIOHEAD and SUSANNE SUNDFØR, mixing these diverse elements to create a sound that is both unique and original, and which balances on a fine line between the rough and the delicate.

Aside from Live on vocals and effects, FERVENT MIND’s lineup includes Simen Skrebergene on electric guitar, Martin Sandvik Gjerde on keyboards, Martin Skrebergene on electric bass, and Henrik Håland on drums. Together they play experimental rock with elements from both post rock and metal, as well as from dream pop, trip hop and contemporary jazz, and they have garnered quite a reputation for their intense and energetic live performances.

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS SIGNS ITALIAN EXTREME RITUALLERS DARKEND

Norway’s Dark Essence Records have inked a deal with Italian Extreme Ritual Artists DARKEND, and will be releasing the band’s fourth full-length album during 2019 on a date as yet to be announced.

Playing what the band calls Extreme Ritual Art, DARKEND was formed in 2006 by drummer, and only remaining original member, Valentz, who describes the fledgling band as “young guys wanting to let our energy out. And black metal was the only way – the left hand path we all aimed for”.

Having undergone the inevitable round of member changes, Valentz has today found the ideal lineup of like-minded spirits with Animæ on Vocals, Antarktica on Grand Piano/Ambience, Ashes and Nothingness on Lead Guitars, and Vinterskog on Bass. Together they create music that “lies at the border between magic and spirituality, where cults and rituals can wander free in the wisdom of infinity, at the crossroads between life and death. Swallowed by the energy of the ceremony, engulfed by the dense smoke of incense, for DARKEND there’s no difference between good and evil, dream and reality”.

DARKEND’s enthusiasm at having been selected to be released on Dark Essence Records, a label whose roster boasts some of the most iconic bands in the Black and Extreme Metal genres, and which is well known for its unerring ability to pick out the best of the upcoming batch of Black and Extreme Metal artists, is obvious as the following comments from the various band members demonstrate:

Valentz (drums): I’m very proud that Darkend is now part of Dark Essence’s family. We’ll spread our art together! On all of you!

Animae (vocals): I feel honoured that such an enlightened darkness has chosen to give loud voice to this shadowed universe that is relentlessly shaking, inside.

Ashes (guitars): I’m really excited to start working with Dark Essence. The hard work over the years has finally paid off. For us it really has been a big achievement. I thank all my friends and all the staff that supports us and stands by us!

Antarktica (keys, song writing): For the new album we wanted something different from ‘The Canticle of Shadows’, yet with the same sound matrix. After more than a year of song writing and hard work, and months locked in the recording studio, we got the result we were aiming for. So we couldn’t be prouder than signing for Dark Essence! We are happy they loved our work and we can’t wait for the album to be released!

Vinterskog (bass): Ever since I first got into black metal, I felt a connection with Norway and its artistic aura. And now, signing and working with one of the best labels not only from the country but from everywhere, everything started is a big checkmark on my dreams list, and I am looking forward to this great collaboration!

To sum up , we can’t wait to start working with Dark Essence Records because we believe that their wide roster is attractive. It’s extreme, but not strictly bound to a music genre. It’s wider, complex… and we felt we had the music that could fit it! It was a total pleasure when they told us they liked our art. We closed a circle and started drawing together the next lemniscate!

Commenting on “Hex”, SUPERLYNX also give fans an insight into the ethos behind “New Moon” as a whole:

Like most of the new album, HEX was written in challenging times, with feelings of hopelessness caused by both personal and external circumstances. The song was given a ritualistic expression, representing a deep, primal feeling and a need to alter the dark reality. Through creative force, love and a wish for better times, this feeling is transformed into music and given a positive outlet. In this way, HEX represents the essence of the album. We have all been through dark times and have dealt with a lot of it through music. You can say that making the album has been a sort of alchemical process. The focus has been on getting through the dark and holding on to what is good in this world. And one of the best things is that music has come out of it.

“New Moon” will be the second full-length album from SUPERLYNX, which was formed in 2013 by drummer Ole Teigen and bassist/vocalist Pia Isaksen. A subsequent meeting with guitarist Daniel Bakken, coupled with his performance during rehearsals, changed the duo’s mind about remaining a two-piece and SUPERLYNX became the trio it is today.

With cover art by Pia Isaksen, “New Moon” was recorded by the band themselves, with a little help from Ole Jørgen Moe, who recorded their debut album. Mixed by the band’s long-time sound engineer Amund Tømmerbakke, and mastered by Fridtjof Lindeman at Strype Audio, tracklisting for “New Moon” is as follows:

With their seventh full-length album “Marrow” having been released on Dark Essence Records in September, MADDER MORTEM are set to hit the road in December with a series of European dates which will see the Norwegian Alternative Metallers headline for the first time in their long and illustrious career.

We’ve always loved playing live, and the unbelievable welcome we received on the double European tour with SOEN in 2017 just stoked our fire. With their latest release “Osloborgerlig Tusmørke: Vardøger og utburder vol. 1” set to hit the streets on Karisma Records on the 30th November, Norway’s TUSMØRKE have released a video for “Skattegravere i Grefsenåsen” , the opening track from the album.

Commenting on the song , TUSMØRKE had this to say:

“Skattegravere i Grefsenåsen” was written during the winter of 2015 and recorded in Det Ytre Rommet during 2017 and 2018 by Benediktator. The inspiration for the lyrics came from a folk tale by Asbjørnsen & Moe, as well as from the legends about children who find silver under rocks in the wilderness. There are stories of poor people stepping on stones and hearing the clang of metal and finding buried and forgotten treasure. There are also stories of people hearing the sound, only to realise later what it must have been and going on the spend the rest of their lives searching for the spot, never to find it again and driven mad with frustration and the lust for coin.

“Osloborgerlig Tusmørke: Vardøger og utburder vol. 1” itself is a a concept album that explores the rich history and mythology of Norway’s capital city Oslo. Vardøger are premonitions that precede an actual event. Utburder are infants who are abandoned in the woods at birth and whose haunting cries reverberate eerily through the night .

TUSMØRKE describe “Osloborgerlig Tusmørke: Vardøger og utburder vol. 1” as “the signs of things to come and the sounds of the unwanted”, and, as the “vol 1” part of its title suggests, the album is the first part of a series of compilations that feature songs, demos, outtakes and curios that didn’t QUITE make it onto TUSMØRKE’s albums themselves. It will be available in CD, Digital and Limited Edition vinyl formats with the first LP being released on transparent orange vinyl (limited to 700 copies) with a 4 page lyric booklet and an A2 poster.
