Major Parkinson PR

Having snapped up the Norwegian cult prog rockers MAJOR PARKINSON, Karisma Records have announced today that the title track from the upcoming album Blackbox is available as a single. The single will be available on all digital platforms and can be heard below and on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/album/4oyfrz7JZ99cDwymD8MtwD

http://a%20href=

The album Blackbox will be the fourth studio album from the outlandish prog phenomenon that is MAJOR PARKINSON.  Set for release on the 27th of October of this year, and available on Degaton Records in Norway and Karisma Records in the rest of the world, the band spent the better part of two years creating Blackbox. Recorded partly in the legendary Duper Studio, and partly in MAJOR PARKINSON’s own dungeon – Degaton Studio, Blackbox is an uncompromising work, somewhere at the crossroads between progressive rock, cinematic pop, heavy industry and icy Arctic electronics.

With Linn Frøkedal (MISTY COAST, LOW FREQUENCY IN STEREO) contributing her haunting vocals on no less than four tracks, she is joined by a a plethora of guest musicians who have all added their unique talents to further elevate the Blackbox experience.  In the able hands of sound maestro Yngve Leidulv Sætre, Blackbox is an album filled with frenetic horn sections, angelic strings, rusty hammers, paper planes and rocket ships.

According to MAJOR PARKINSON, Blackbox is an unparalleled journey through cinematic, progressive soundscapes and otherworldly melodies which have been forged in stainless dark matter and filled to the brim with musical excess.  It is a treasure chest pulled patiently from the ocean floor, through shoals of curious starfish. It’s a night ride through a snowy and moonlit mountain pass, under the pale flicker of oddly shaped constellations!

With artwork by Martin Kvamme, the album will be available as digipak, black vinyl, gold vinyl and in digital formats. The tracklisting on Blackbox is as follows:

  1. Lover, Lower Me Down!
  2. Night Hitcher
  3. Before the Helmets
  4. Isabel – A Report to an Academy
  5. Scenes from Edison’s Black Maria
  6. Madeleine Crumbles
  7. Baseball
  8. Strawberry Suicide
  9. Blackbox

Having spent the last year or so using session bass players for their live appearances, Norwegian Black Metal veterans RAGNAROK have today announced that and bassist Rammr (JORDSKIPSTYRANN and ELVARHØI) has joined the band on a full-time, permanent basis.

Rammr PR

© and All Rights Reserved M.Bärmann

“Originally it was our intention to use a session bassist going forward,” explains founder and frontman Jontho Panthera, one of Norway’s most iconic Black Metal drummers, who recently switched roles to become the band’s vocalist.  “However,  during the shows he did with us, Rammr’s dedication to his craft, and to RAGNAROK itself, became very evident to everyone.  He fits in perfectly with the rest of the band, which includes Bolverk on guitars and drummer Daniel Minge (DAUDEN), not only on stage,  but also on a personal level.

Ragnarok PR1

“Most importantly he understands our ideology, and what RAGNAROK expects of its members, and after yet another incredible performance from him at Kaltenbach Open Air recently I thought it was right to make him a full member of the horde!”

RAGNAROK are set to hit the road in September, for a thirteen-date tour of Latin America, where the band has a considerable following.  Routing for RAGNAROK’s Psychopathology Latin American Tour is as follows, and includes links to the specific Facebook events where fans will be able to get all the necessary details:

Devar PR1 ronny_a_sangolt

With their long-awaited sophomore full-length album “Mausoleum” due for release on the Gymnocal  Industries label on the 29th September, Norwegian Metallers DEVAR have given fans a second taste of what to expect with the release of the title track in digital format.

DEVAR’s unconventional approach to music draws its influences not only from the Extreme and Black Metal genres, but also from Avant-garde Metal and 70’s Prog.  Matched with a lyrical concept that takes listeners on a journey down the paths of fear, insanity, darkness and death in order to explore the decline of man, the resultant sound is one that is both original and unique.

Both the single “Masoleum”, and the entire album,  were recorded by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, TAAKE, HELHEIM) at the Conclave & Earshot Studios in  Bergen, along with Devar at the Alternate End Studios, and Ottoegil at Internasjonalt Farvann.  “Masoleum” is mixed and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) at the Conclave & Earshot Studios.

Cover art for the single “Masoleum” is by Tom Korsvold, photography is by Ronny A. Sangolt.  It is available in digital format from https://devar.bandcamp.com/track/mausoleum-single as well as from the following:

Devar Single PR

The band was originally formed as a solo project by frontman Devar in 2002, who, upon realising what was needed if he wanted to bring his vision to fruition, put together a full lineup that today consists of Devar on vocals, Obdsaija on  Drums and Percussion, Aadland on  Guitars and Ottoegil on Bass and  Keys.

Since the release of the band’s 2009 full-length debut “Alternate Endings”, “DEVAR” has matured into a more reflective band, and the resultant sophomore album reveals songs that are much more focused and with a more progressive touch.  As with the single, artwork for “Mausoelum” is by Tom Korsvold and photography by Ronny A. Sangolt.  Tracklisiting is as follows:

1. Mausoleum
2. House of Bones
3. Dead End Moon
4. Shadow Straggler
5. Cold black Rain

Wobbler PR2

Norway’s leading Symphonic Prog band WOBBLER have inked a deal with Karisma Records and are set to release their fourth full-length album, “From Silence to Somewhere” on the 20th October.

Formed in Hønefoss in 1999, WOBBLER’s current lineup features current and former members of TUSMØRKE, WHITE WILLOW, THE CHRONICLES OF FATHER ROBIN and JAGA JAZZIST.  With Lars Fredrik Frøislie on keyboards and backing vocals, Kristian Karl Hultgren on  bass, bass clarinet and bass pedals, Martin Nordrum Kneppen on drums, percussion and recorder,  Andreas Wettergreen Strømman Prestmo on vocals, guitar, glockenspiel and percussion, and Geir Marius Bergom Halleland on lead guitar and backing vocals,  the band can avail itself of a considerable  array of instruments that  have a huge, and very interesting impact,  on the overall sound.

“From Silence to Somewhere” offers up a sound that is enigmatic, multi-flavoured and adventurous, with the use of copious amounts of Mellotron, Moog, Hammond, Chamberlin and other classical analogue keyboards, and of course the renowned Rickenbacker Bass .  The guitar riffs go from poignant to edgy. Melancholy harmonies combine with powerful crescendos and high-energy, spinet-driven passages,  flavoured with a touch of Flamenco and Italian Renaissance music to produce and album comprising four epic tracks that explore the idea of metamorphosis and alchemy.  It is a natural continuation from WOBBLER’s previous albums, but with a darker, more introspective edge.

With artwork by Thomas Kaldhol (Samuel Jackson 5, Panzerpappa, Lukas Kasha etc) , and a running time of 47 minutes, tracklisting on “From Silence to Somewhere” is as follows:

1. From Silence to Somewhere
2. Rendered in Shades of Green
3. Fermented Hours
4. Foxlight

Atrox PR2

With *Monocle”,  their first album for over a decade set for release on Dark Essence Records on the 8th September, ATROX have today debuted the opening track from the album  in the form of a video by Snorre Hovdal of Dispenser Media.

According to the band,  Hovdal was chosen because of his previous work with two of the band members on their DRONTHEIM project, and he was given the song with the brief that it should be dark. More than satisfied with the result, ATROX felt that ” that’s what happens when small boys play with rocks…witches come in many sizes”.  The video is currently streaming exclusively at the following:

Lords of Metal (Netherlands): http://www.lordsofmetal.nl/nl/streams/view/id/626
Eternal Terror (Norway) https://eternal-terror.com/articles/index.php?id=1829&type=A

Spark Rock Magazine (czech republic) http://www.spark-roc kmagazine.cz/industrialove-atr ox-se-vraci-po-9-letech
Rock Tribune (Belgium), https://www.facebook.com/RockTribune/

About the track itself, the band had this to say: “The reason for us picking “Mass” for a video was due to the energy and structure of the song – which is aggressive and straight to the point.  It also represents the album well, giving you a vibe about what it’s all about; a darker side of us and how we’re observing the world around us”.

Today’s ATROX lineup comprises Rune Folgerø on Vocals,  viNd on Guitars, Rune Sørgård on Guitars & Technology, Tor Arne Helgesen on Drums and Erik Paulsen on Bass, and with “Monocle” the band is  back stronger than ever.  The sound has been fine-tuned so that what was once an atmospheric mix of Death and Doom Metal has become much more progressive, experimental and industrial.  It is an album that shows a darker side to the band, with more epic and atmospheric elements than before.  Consolidating the unique ATROX sound within the album are catchy and upbeat sections.

Artwork for “Monocle” is by Rune Folgerø and Erik Paulsen.  Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Mass
2. Vacuum
3. Heat
4. Finger
5. Suicide Days
6. For We Are Many
7. Movie
8. Target

Jordsjo PR1

Whilst Karisma Records can boast a roster that includes a variety of Metal and Progressive genres, it was a first for the label when they signed JORDSJØ, a band that cites Swedish Forest Prog amongst its influences – the other influences being German Synth Music, Acid Folk, Electronic and Northern Norwegian nature!

Formed in the autumn of 2014 by multi-instrumentalist Håkon Oftung (TUSMORKE, BLACK MAGIC ) JORDSJØ started out purely as a “hobby project”, until the addition of further members, turned Oftung’s hobby, into a fully fledged studio and live band.

JORDSJØ’s debut live appearance took place in the summer of 2015, and the band’s first releases were “old school” with “Jordsjø I” and “Jordsjø II” seeing the light of day in Cassette format in 2015 and 2016 respectively.  These were followed by “Songs from the Northern Wasteland”, a split cassette with BREIDABLIK.   All three cassettes were later released as a double LP and eventually in digital format.

Karisma Records is expected to release JORDSJØ’s next full-length album, “Jord”, and this will be followed by what the band calls “a kind of Intermezzo” titled “Nattfiolen” which will explore more deeply the mysticism that surrounds the forest.

With appearances already confirmed for the Karlsøyfestivalen and Proggens Grøde in 2017, and the Close to the Rain Bergen Prog Festival in 2018, JORDSJØ’s charismatic, folk-inspired  Symphonic Rock is set to stand out amongst the legions of Prog Rock bands.

maniace-pr

Following on from the recent announcement by SKITLIV and former MAYHEM frontman Maniac that after thirty years he would be resurrecting Damage Inc,  the date of September the 1st has been set for the re-launch of what was one the original Fanzines.

Created and published by Maniac in 1985, Damage Inc. had to be put to one side after only two issues, due to the rapidly burgeoning Norwegian Black Metal scene, and the subsequent demands placed on the vocalist by his role in MAYHEM and the  various other musical projects he was working on at the time.   Recently, however, the iconic frontman has found the time to return to what has always been one of his primary interests – writing: and this has led him back to “Damage Inc.” a project that has always remained close to his heart.

Eschewing the idea that zines nowadays have to either be “online”, or appear as glossy publications that sacrifice content in order to appeal to advertisers, Maniac has remained resolute in his vision that Damage Inc.  will lose none of its “Old School” attributes, and will remain true to the rough and ready Fanzine concept of cut and paste and, according to him, will be much more rough than the first two issues,  and contain “just darkness and good music”.

The comeback issue of “Damage Inc.” will follow on from the first two issues and will effectively be issue three.  In keeping with his decision to ensure that the fanzine stays true to its original concept, it will only be available in selected shops in Oslo, Finland and Japan, or directly from Maniac himself from the 1st September  via email at godintheschizoidmind@gmail.com (pre-orders will not be taken).

maniac-damage-inc

However, since the original issues of “Damage Inc.” have now become  much-sought after,  and virtually impossible-to-find,  collector’s items,  Maniac has teamed up with The Cult Never Dies, the UK-based publishing company,  to create the book  “Ultra Damaged: Damage Inc.  Zine Anthology 1985/2017”.   The 118 page Anthology will be printed in large format (A4) on high quality paper with a 350gsm card cover.  All copies will be signed by Maniac.

As well as containing the two original issues from 1986 and 1987, “Ultra Damaged…” will also contain the new 2017 comeback issue, which includes interviews with TEITANBLOOD, CLANDESTINE BLAZE, DÖRAID, BIRTH RITUAL and DARKTHRONE, amongst others, as well as a long and exclusive interview with Maniac himself.

The “Ultra Damaged: Damage Inc.  Zine Anthology 1985/2017” is now available to pre-order from https://cultneverdies.myshopify.com/collections/all/products/pre-order-1st-sep-2017-ultra-damaged-damage-inc-zine-1985-2017-anthology-book-signed-by-maniac

Maniac Mag PR

Musically too Maniac has not been entirely inactive, just more low key,  having collaborated both live and in the studio with artists like Niklas Kvarforth and SHINING,  and Andrew Liles (NURSE WITH WOUND),  as well as having taken up his former mantle of frontman for a couple of MAYHEM performances.  Most recently he has recorded guest vocals on the upcoming album from Norway’s WITCHFACE.

More information about SKILTIV can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/skitlivofficial/

Whilst going through his archives Maniac found what he calls a  “piece of X-ray adultery”,   which had been made at around the time of the release of SKITLIV’s “Skandinavisk Misantropi”,   and never made public.  Filmed by renowned sculptor and SUCHTHAUS bassist Spacebrain, the video for the title track from “Skandinavisk Misantropi” can now be seen on YouTube at https://youtu.be/fnrKGTazWQw

Devar PR

After a lengthy hiatus Norwegian  Metallers  DEVAR are back with “Mausoleum”, a brand new full-length album that showcases to perfection the band’s unconventional  approach to writing and performing, drawing their influence from genres as far apart as Extreme, Black and Avantgarde Metal with a smattering of 70’s Prog Rock.    It’s an eccentric mix, but a highly successful one according to the press,  who variously hailed DEVAR’s  2009 debut album “Alternate Endings” as being “daring”, “original” and packed with “well-crafted songs”.

Originally formed as a solo project by Devar in 2002, it quickly became apparent to him that a full band was needed to fulfil his vision, eventually resulting in today’s lineup, formed of Devar on vocals, Obdsaija on  Drums and Percussion, Aadland on  Guitars and Ottoegil on Bass and  Keys

DEVAR’s return to the studio,  and the resulting “Mausoleum”,  shows a much more mature and reflective band, whose songs are more focused and perhaps have a more progressive edge.  It is an album that takes as its concept the feeling of someone standing on the edge of the end, whilst images of their lifetime flashes through their fractured and declining mind.

“Mausoleum” was recorded by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, TAAKE, HELHEIM) at the Conclave & Earshot  Studios,  by Devar at the Alternate End Studios, and by Ottoegil at Internasjonalt Farvann.  It and was mixed and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED) also at the Conclave & Earshot Studios.

With artwork by Tom Korsvold and photography by Ronny A. Sangolt, “Mausoleum” is set for release on the 29th September on Gymnocal Industries in Digipak CD, Gatefold DLP and Digital formats.  Tracklisting for “Mausoleum is as follows:

1. Mausoleum

3. Dead End Moon

Five the Hierophant PR1

Dark Essence Records have set the 22nd September as the release date for “Over Phlegethon”,  the debut full-length album from FIVE THE HIEROPHANT, who recently signed to the Norwegian label, known for its uncanny ability to sniff out promising new talent to add to its roster of established and iconic bands.

With “Over Phlegethon”,  the UK Trio have brought the full weight of their ritualistic soundscapes to bear. It is a dark and devastating album,  imbued with Psychedelic Black Metal, Jazz, Post Metal and Ambient,  all of which, combined with the band’s trademark heavy riffs, drone-like atmospheres and a Black Metal intensity, reveal a sound and atmosphere that is unique to FIVE THE HIEROPHANT.

This uniqueness if further emphasized by the unusual array of instruments used by the band, whose lineup is composed of Chris on drums, temple bells, djembe, shakers and gong, Mitch on  bass and effects, and  महाकाली on guitars, bowed guitars, rag-dung, violin and  grand piano noise.

“Over Phlegethon” was recorded and mixed at Scream Studios in London.  The cover art for the album is a painting entitled “Dust Lickers” by Odd Nerdrum.   Track listing is as follows:

1. Queen over Phlegethon
2. Vampire
3. Seafarer
4. Der Geist der stets Verneint
5. Sepulchre
6. Omen Tree
