With its impeding release not too far away, Psychedelic Rockers SHAMAN ELEPHANT have debuted the title track from their upcoming album “Crystals” ahead of its 9th December release date.  The track can be heard streaming on Rock Hard at https://www.rockhard.de/news/newsarchiv/newsansicht/45802-shaman-elephant-feiern-crystals-songpremiere.html

“Crystals” will be the first full-length album from the Norwegians, whose previous release was the three-track EP “More”.    Whilst there is no doubt that SHAMAN ELEPHANT’s sound, replete with heavy riffs, flowing melodies and a good dose of improvisation, fits easily into the Psychedelic Rock genre, it is the additional elements of Jazz and Prog Rock that makes their music just that little bit different.

Recorded at the Solslottet and Duper Studio with producer Iver Sandøy, and with artwork by  Kåre Thomsen, tracklisting for “Crystals”  is as follows:

  1. Crystals
  2. Shaman in the Woods
  3. I.A.B.
  4. Tusko
  5. The Jazz
  6. Stoned Conceptions

Layout 1

SHAMAN ELEPHANT’s lineup of Eirik Sejersted Vognstølen on vocals and guitar, Jard Hole (LINT) on drums, Ole-Andreas Sæbø Jensen on  bass, and Jonas Særsten (ex-TIEBREAKER) on keyboards, are known for the energy they exude both in the studio and on stage.  They also have a pretty good idea of what people can expect from the new album, as they rather intriguingly explain “Crystals” is a psychedelic flying carpet ride taking you across a diverse musical landscape. Let the Shaman Spell fly you through waterfalls of melting melodies and fields of mastodontic riffs – open your third eye and prepare for the crystallized illusions”

crest-of-darkkness-pr1

With the release date for CREST OF DARKNESS’ seventh full-length album “Welcome the Dead” having been brought forward to the 25th November, the band has released a video for the title track.  Directed by Anders Børresen for MONITORmeda, the video for “Welcome the Dead” can be seen below and on CREST OF DARKNESS’  YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/4jxLXUPRLyI

x
Commenting on the video, founder and frontman Ingar Amlien had this to say: “We wanted to make a video that offers a glimpse into the dark world of CREST OF DARKNESS.  Perhaps we are just story tellers recounting a fairytale,  and the video can certainly be viewed and enjoyed at that level, but we are also  touching on aspects of Life itself and those eternal questions that people ask themselves about life and death and the meaning of it all.

“We might not have all the answers, and in all honesty we don’t even want to pretend that we do, but what we do want is to make people think for themselves, and find their own answers .  Let’s face it, we are all Gods.  Each of us builds their own universe, and it just happens that the world of CREST OF DARKNESS is my universe”.

Recorded at the at MLP Studio by Nils H. Mæhlum, and mastered at the Kvålsonic Lab by Tom Kvålsvoll, the nine-track album promises to be the heaviest, darkest and most introspective album in the band’s twenty plus year history.    It will be released on My Kingdom Music in both CD and Digital formats, as well as a double LP format which will feature a special bonus track.

With artwork that features  the strange and disturbing Zombie Foetus sculptures created by the Italian artist Andrea Falaschi, tracklisting on “Welcome the Dead” is as follows:

1. Welcome The Dead
2. Chosen By The Devil
3. Scourged And Crucified
4. My Black Bride
5. Borrowed Life
6. The Almighty
7. Memento Mori
8. The Noble Art
9. Katharsis

crest-of-darkness-albumartpr

“Welcome the Dead” includes a guest appearance  by Norwegian actor Espen Reboli Bjerke, well known for his extensive work in films, theatre, radio and Television.  Bjerke, who also won a Spelleman Award, the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammies, performs the  spoken part on “Katharsis”,  the closing track on the album.

crest-of-darkness-reboli-pr2

Amlien, whose illustrious musical history started with the legendary CONCPTION, and includes  ROQUEFIRE and  AMLIEN’s INFERNO,  confirms that “Welcome the Dead” has a particular significance for him:  ” I’ve put a hell of a lot of myself and my emotions  into this album, even more so than usual.  I’ve always felt that when we are on stage, we create a sort of magic, and this time we have been able to transfer that magic to the recordings.  You could say this is my personal Black Mass”.

CREST OF DARKNESS’ lineup of  Amlien on bass and vocals, Rebo on guitars, Bernhard (ex- PALE FOREST) on drums, and Kristian Wentzel on keyboards,  will celebrate the release of “Welcome the Dead” with a show special Friday the 13th show at Retro in Raufoss, Norway in January.

Dark Essence Records have announced that the 20th January has been set for the release of “landawarijaR” the much-anticipated ninth full-length album from Norwegian Viking Metallers HELHEIM.

“landawarijaR” will contain seven tracks, all of which bear the hallmarks of HELHEIM’s traditional Norse heritage.  A Heritage  of which they are rightly proud and to which they have remained true, eschewing the temptation to turn themselves into the Viking parodies that so many bands have espoused.   With “landawarijaR” HELHEIM use their lyrics to express the need to include the Norse Heritage into modern life by emphasising the importance, mystery and never-changing wonder of the Runes.

Just as HELHEIM’s “raunijaR” followed in the same vein as its predecessor “Asgards Fall”, “landawarijaR” continues where “Heidindomr” ended.  All four albums incorporate the use of Timpani and Horns, and the new album also has a number of artists performing guest vocals including William Hut, Morten Egeland (NARROWHEAD), Pehr Skjoldhammer (ALFAHANNE),  Bjornar E Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) and Ottorpedo.

With music by by H’grimnir and V’gandr,  lyrics by V’gandr and  artwork by H’grimnir, “landawarijaR”   was recorded at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, and produced by Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED).

Tracklisting for “landawarijaR” is as follows:

1. Ymr
2. Baklengs mot intet
3. Rista blodørn
4. landawarijaR
5. Ouroboros
6. Synir af heidindomr
7. Enda-dagr

helheim-albumartpr

HELHEIM recently announced that two songs from the album were being turned into videos by Guilherme Henriques, who is both producing and directing the videos.  ‘Ymr’ and ‘Baklengs mot intet’ are the songs that been chosen because, as the band  explained, they are  “neatly intertwined into a dualism which Guillherme will portray”.  The videos are expected to be debuted in the run-up to the release of “landawarijaR”.

A series of stills from the video shoot by the photographer Mathis Backe of Yggdrasil Photo (http://yggdrasilphoto.net ), and featuring HELHEIM’s lineup of Vgandr on bass and vocals, Hgrimnir on rhythm guitar and vocals, Noralf on rhythm and lead guitar and Hrymr on drums and programming , were recently published, and can be seen on HELHEIM’s Facebook page at  http://www.facebook.com/helheimnorway

Veterans of the Norwegian Black Metal scene, SARKOM are known for their crushingly dark sound, and with the brutally catchy “Anti-Cosmic Art” album, the band produce more of the same, but this time they also show that far from being afraid to step out of their comfort zone, they happily embrace the idea and take their listeners on a journey that ranges from  Old School Black Metal through to more experimental tracks.

Even the choice of guest artists indicates how versatile the band’s music can be, with appearances from the likes of SHINING’s Peter Huss,  Ronni Le Tekrø from TNT and ROQUEFIRE and TROLLFEST’s Sagstad  who all contribute to give “Anti-Cosmic Art” a guitar-driven sound, as well as ALFAHANNE frontman  Pehr Skjoldhammer whose distinctive vocals add a completely different dimension to the track “Come, dear Cancer”.

With  artwork by Spectrvm Lvsitani, tracklisting for “Anti-Cosmic Art” is as follows:

  1. Previous associates, now as targets for the gun
  2. Mind-abscess
  3. Ruiners of our family tree
  4. Seen through the eyes of a paedophile priest
  5. Come, dear cancer
  6. Black metal necrophilia
  7. Sodomy and lust (Sodom cover)

To  mark the release of “Anti-Cosmic Art” SARKOM will play the following two Norwegian dates:

03 Dec:  Good Omens, Trondheim
17 Dec:  Revolver, Oslo

“Anti-Cosmic Art”, is set for release on Dark Essence Records on the 2nd December, and it is now available to pre-order, together with related merchandise from https://www.darkessencerecords.no/artists/sarkom/   and the US website at https://darkessence.aisamerch.com in CD format , as well as at https://sarkom.bandcamp.com   where the album is also available digitally.

BLACK HOLE GENERATOR’s creator Bjornar E. Nilsen had this to say about the track “Moloch was one of the first tracks that was finalized for the album.  It is one of my personal favourites from “A Requiem for Terra” and it acts as the centerpiece for the album. It embodies the album’s bleak atmosphere which spans most of its dynamic range.  Starting off as a mesmerizing hymn to the deity Moloch, it is broken up by frantic, furious parts tearing everyone from  their mantric slumbers.  On this track I was lucky to get Gjermund from TAAKE and ORKAN on board on lead guitars, and his contribution really shines on this one!”

It’s been ten years since the appearance of BLACK HOLE GENERATOR’S debut release, the “Black Karma” MCD, and given Nilsen’s standing not only as VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ frontman, well known for his idiosyncratic vocals and eccentric stage performances, but also as one of Norway’s most successful producers, working with bands such as TAAKE and HELHEIM, as well as one of the people behind the Dark Essence Records and Karisma Records labels, the delay is hardly surprising.

“A Requiem for Terra”, will delight many guitar fans with guitarist Arve Isdal (ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE) being joined on the album by the previously-mentioned Gjermund Fredheim, who guests on three of the tracks, and  Dag Terje Andersen, who provides additional guitars.   Artwork for  “A Requiem for Terra” is by the Romanian artist and designer Costin Chioreanu, tracklisting is as follows:

  1. A Requiem for Terra
  2. Titan
  3. Moloch
  4. Beneath a Chemical Sky
  5. Emerging Pantheon
  6. Earth Eater
  7. Spiritual Blight

Known for  using classical rock instruments such as vintage synths, Mellotron and Hammond Organ, along with the usual modern rock instruments,  Norway’s FATAL FUSION have come up with an album that is infused with hard rock, classical music, jazz and psychedelic influences giving the band its unique sound.  It is also an album that allows the band to reveal its darker side.

Filled with epic melodies that range from the exotic to the wistful,  “Total Absence” will be released on Karisma Records on the 25th November, and today the band and label have released a second track from the album.  The track they have chosen is “Forgotten One”,  and it’s one that could very easily fit into the soundtrack of an epic Fantasy film with its deceptively gentle, almost folkish melodies, but one that does not allow the listener to forget that FATAL FUSION’s music has its roots firmly planted in Prog Rock.

“Forgotten One” can be heard below and at https://youtu.be/Gtw0fmE6skc

Sweden’s VANHELGA, whose music falls between Black Metal and DSBM, and who use deceptively melodic pieces to create disturbing scenarios,  describe “Ode & Elegy” as being an album in two parts:   ” Ode” or “Old Diary Entries” is about the deteriorating mental state of a young woman, slipping further and further into depression and darkness. Her recorded voice is intertwined with the music.  “Elegy” is the continuation.  It’s about looking back and reflecting on those dark situations in life: the hopelessness, drugs, abuse, depression and death.  In summary, to understand and accept that life is without meaning”.

With “Total Absence” FATAL FUSION are showing their darker side,  on an album that is filled with epic melodies that range from the exotic to the wistful.  There is no doubt that FATAL FUSION owes much to the great prog bands of the 70’s, but the band’s use of hard rock, classical music, jazz, psychedelia  and Latin ensures that their sound is uniquely their own.

Adding to the band’s uniqueness is the way in which FATAL FUSION’s lineup of Erlend Engebretsen on Keyboards, Lasse Lie on Bass, Audun Engebretsen on Drums/Percussion, Stig Selnes on Guitar, and Knut Grøntvedt on Vocals make use of “classical” rock instruments such as vintage synths, Mellotron and Hammond, organ along with the more usual instruments one would expect to hear today.

Tracklisting for the seven-track album as follows:

  1. The Gates of Ishtar
  2. Shadow of the King
  3. Forgotten One
  4. Astral Flight
  5. The Emperor’s Letter

With the release of “Anti Cosmic Art”, the fourth full-length album from Norwegian Black Metallers SARKOM,  a month away, Dark Essence Records have today debuted a track from the album.

Titled “Mind-abscess”, one of the track’s features is a striking guitar interlude performed by three separate guitarists.  The first guitar part is performed by Thrawn, the second by  SHINING’s Peter Huss, and the third by Galaaen.

The track can be heard below and on  YouTube at https://youtu.be/iufba_KbMH4

  1. Previous associates, now as targets for the gun
  2. Mind-abscess
  3. Ruiners of our family tree
  4. Seen through the eyes of a paedophile priest
  5. Come, dear cancer
  6. Black metal necrophilia

Originally intended to mark the band’s tenth anniversary, but unavoidably delayed due to a series of personal and technical difficulties, “Anti-Cosmic Art” displays the versatility of the Norwegian veterans, ranging, as it does, from Old School Black Metal to more experimental tracks.  It is brutally catchy, largely guitar-driven, and the whole is imbued with the crushingly dark sound that SARKOM has made its own.

To  mark the release of “Anti-Cosmic Art” SARKOM will play the following two Norwegian dates:

03 Dec:  Good Omens, Trondheim
17 Dec:  Revolver, Oslo

“Anti-Cosmic Art”, together with related merchandise, is now available to to pre-order from https://www.darkessencerecords.no/artists/sarkom/   and the US website at https://darkessence.aisamerch.com in CD format , as well as at https://sarkom.bandcamp.com   where the album is also available digitally.

Norwegian Viking Metallers HELHEIM have completed work on what will be the band’s ninth full-length album, which is set for release on Dark Essence Records in January 2017.  In the run-up to the release of the album, which will be titled “landawarijaR”, the band will be releasing two videos of tracks from the album, the first of which will appear in November.

Whilst no information about the album is available yet, HELHEIM have confirmed that the tracks being used for the videos are ‘Ymr’ and ‘Baklengs mot intet’, two songs which, as the band  explained ” are neatly intertwined into a dualism that will be portrayed visually  by Guilherme Henriques, who is both producing and directing the videos”.

As a little taste of what fans can expect from the videos, HELHEIM have published a series of stills from the video shoot by the photographer Mathis Backe of Yggdrasil Photo (http://yggdrasilphoto.net ), and these can be seen on the band’s Facebook page at  http://www.facebook.com/helheimnorway

Bergen-based HELHEIM not only has the distinction of being one on Norway’s oldest Viking bands, it is also one of the bands that has always been  true to its Norse heritage.  The band’s lineup of Vgandr on bass and vocals, Hgrimnir on rhythm guitar and vocals, Noralf on rhythm and lead guitar and Hrymr on drums and programming,  incorporates the local myths and folklore into the subject matter of the band’s songs, and frequently make use of traditional instruments.  HELHEIM’s live performances use special effects that emphasize and enhance the themes that wind their way through the band’s music .
