Having previously announced their two-album deal with Osmose Productions, ENEPSIGOS are currently in the final stages of production of their latest album “Wrath of Wraths”, the follow up to their very successful debut full-length “Plague of Plagues”.
Set for release in 2020 on a date as yet to be announced, “Wrath of Wraths” promises more of ENEPSIGOS’ trademark brutality, darkness, and ritualistic undertones, unashamedly rooted in early, and some would say “true”, Black Metal traditions.
Formed in 2016, ENEPSIGOS’ original members V.I.T.H.R, otherwise known as Doedsadmiral, founder and frontman of bands such as NORDJEVEL, SVARTELDER and DOEDSVANGR, and drummer Thorns, known for his work with BLUT AUS NORD, DEATHROW, FIDES INVERSA, FROSTMOON ECLISPE and DARVAZA amongst others, have welcomed new member Rituul on bass and guitars.
Having reached a point in ENEPSIGOS’ career where there is a new album in the offing and a solid lineup, the band all feel that the time is right to begin performing live, and, to this end, have inked a deal with the Flaming Arts Agency who will handle bookings .
Norwegian Black Metal veterans CREST OF DARKNESS have revealed a track from their upcoming ninth full-length album “The God Of Flesh”, which is set for release on My Kingdom Music on the 6th December.
CREST OF DARKNESS founder Ingar Amlien has this to say about the track, which is titled “The Child With No Head” :
Here we are, yet another chapter written in the book of CREST OF DARKNESS, with a track that is probably one of the most violent and extreme we have ever written during our career. Turn up the f***ing volume and you’ll be overwhelmed by its sense of loss and total lack of hope.
A
Although still filled with CREST OF DARKNESS’ trademark Satanic themes “The God Of Flesh” marks a change to the feel, variety and depth of the music, showing the band’s lineup of Amlien (CONCEPTION, ROQUEFIRE, AMLIEN’s INFERNO) on Bass and Vocals, Rebo on Rhythm and Lead Guitars, and Berhard (ex- PALE FOREST) on Drums, to be as much at home with more progressive and melodic elements, as they are the with the aggressive and dark brutal side, for which they are known.
Amlien recently remarked that “The God Of Flesh”, which will be the band’s ninth full-length album, was “probably the darkest and most brutal album we’ve ever made! It’s also the most honest work ever from my perspective”
With all lyrics by Amlien and music by Amlien, Rebo and Bernhard, except for the track “Forgotten” where Amlien joins forces with the album’s session keyboardist Kristian Wentzel, and with cover art by Marius Engli Andersson, track listing for “The God of Flesh” is as follows:
1.The God of Flesh
2. The Child with no Head
3. Endless Night
4. The Spawn of Seth
5. Forgotten
6. Euthanasia
7. Blood
8. Godless Evil Eyes
9. Salvation in Hell
Seeking an outlet for his passion for sonic brutality and his interest in Vampirism and Satanic ideology, on which he is an acknowledged expert, Amlien formed CREST OF DARKNESS in the mid nineties and considers today’s lineup to be the strongest in the band’s history, as he explains:
During the whole production of the album I was thinking that now, more than ever before, I wanted to make an album my way! And, as a result, we haven’t made any compromises whatsoever, in any direction. And I’m very fortunate to be able to say that I was not alone during the whole process. With the help of my fantastic band mates Rebo and Bernhard, it became possible to bring my darkest fantasies and visions to life through “The God of Flesh”
“The God of Flesh” will be available in Digital, Digipak CD, Deluxe CD Box, and Vinyl formats, and is now available to pre-order at http://smarturl.it/CODFLESH
CREST OF DARKNESS will be live at Good Omens in Trondheim, Norway, on the 12th October

On the 6th December, when “Let Your Light Shine” hits the streets, Karisma Records will have hit the half way mark in their mission to release the entire back catalogue of Norwegian Prog Legends RUPHUS.
The third of what will be a total of six releases by Karisma, “Let Your Light Shine” is the album that marked a new direction for RUPHUS. A direction driven by keyboard player Håkon Graf’s stint with a jazz ensemble called MOOSE LOOSE, from which Graf emerged with new inspiration. Armed with a selection of refined jazz compositions, the newly re-formed RUPHUS entered the studio with legendary producer Terje Rypdal and embarked on their first foray into Jazz Rock territory, which also paved the way for the band’s entry into the bigger, European market.
Originally released on the German label Brain in 1976, and creating a stir in Europe “Let Your Light Shine’s” overwhelmingly positive reception led to a tour that saw RUPHUS playing in front of enthusiastic crowds in sold out venues.
As with all the RUPHUS back catalogue releases, “Let Your Light Shine” has been has been re-mastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo (White Willow, The Opium Cartel, etc) using digital transfers from the original master tapes that are stored in the Norwegian National Archives for posterity.
Tracklisting for “Let Your Light Shine” is as follows:
Sha Ba Wah
Nordlys
Corner
Second Corner
Let Your Light Shine
Grasse
Brain Boogie
With cover photos by Øystein B. Ahlsen and Layout byJan Ole Norum, “Let Your Light Shine” will be available in CD, LP and Limited Edition Transparent Lime Vinyl, and is now available to pre-order from:
A versatile and ground-breaking band, RUPHUS, with their long, melodic, compositions and multiple, intertwined themes, were regarded as being the Norwegian equivalent of YES, not just in style, but also in skill. The band’s revolving door policy as regards their lineup meant that as members left and others joined, RUPHUS’ sound changed accordingly, taking them from their start playing hard progressive rock, to becoming one of the leaders in the field of jazz rock. Only Kjell Larsen (guitar) and Asle Nilsen (bass, flute) would go on to play on all of RUPHUS’ albums.
VANHELGA, one of Sweden’s most extreme exponents of the DSBM genre are set to re-release an extended version of their 2014 Mini Album “LPT” which was previously only available in digital format. Completely remastered, and with the addition of a never-before released track ” Drömlik eufori”, as well as new artwork, “LPT” will be available in Digipak format and will be strictly limited to 300 copies worldwide.
As a prelude to its 31st October release VANHELGA has today debuted a lyric video which can be seen below and on YouTube at https://youtu.be/Dfs5EQVCpKY
A
Quite possibly the most personal, and disturbing, release from a band known for its disturbing lyrics and imagery, “LPD” was written by founder J. Ottosson, who based it on his own experiences during an enforced involuntary stay in a psychiatric hospital, to which he was committed under the Swedish ‘Lagen om Psykiatrisk Tvångsvård’ law. The “LPT” of the title.
“LPT” is a raw and almost unbearable emotionally honest account of the pure suffering and horrors that result from someone who is not only undergoing drug withdrawal but is also suffering from psychosis and mental health problems, and who is being confined within the dark corridors of a psychiatric hospital against their will.
Tracklisting for “LPT” is as follows:
1. Dag 1
2. Dag 2
3. Dag 3
4. LPT
5. Descending into darkness
6. Drömlik eufori (unreleased track from ‘Längtan’)
“LPT” is now available to pre-order in two different bundles from the following:
Formed in Linköping, Sweden, in 2001 by J. Ottosson, aka 145188, who got together with likeminded musicians in order to finally breathe life into his vision, something he had not been able to do with any previous bands and musicians he had worked with. Through their music and lyrics VANHELGA, which, translated from the Swedish means “Profane”, and whose current lineup includes 145188 (ESKAPI, ex-LIVELOVER) on Guitars and Vocals, J. Ejnarsson (TAKETH) on Guitars and Backing Vocals, and R. Jönsson on Bass, explores the darker side of humanity. The one that few will admit exists, but which nevertheless is a huge part of every individual’s existence.
VANHELGA’s music can doubtlessly be classed as Black Metal, but that would be too restrictive a definition, and it is with no small sense of irony that the band has coined the phrase “Positive Music For Positive People” because VANHELGA’s music is cold and sinister but with melodies and moments of melancholy that can draw you in and lull you into a false sense of security before you realize, too late, that you have been caught in an ominous web of sound that sends shivers down your spine.
For Norwegian Folk Metallers ELVARHØI choosing the 30th October to release their long-awaited debut full-length album “Dansen låter fra graven åter” was a no brainer, because fifteen years ago to the day is when the band itself was formed.
To celebrate the impeding release ELVARHØI have debuted a video for a track from the album. Titled “Vertshuset Dovregubben” the video is in the form of a fascinating screen capture of the work of artist Even Mehl Amundsen, taking the viewer through the process he underwent to create the beautifully detailed cover art for “Dansen låter fra graven åter”.
The track itself tells the story of a plucky youngster who, one especially cold winter night, comes across an invitingly warm tavern, filled to overflowing with all sorts of characters and strange artefacts. Here he witnesses his first hanging – that of a fiddler accused of possessing the good people of the town. As the noose tightens, it generates a tone that resonates within the fiddle, which starts to play on its own, and before his mind’s eye the fiddler can see the long afterlife amongst the hills that awaits him, and all the others in the room.
It may seem that fifteen years is a long incubation period for a debut album, but during its making ELVARHØI underwent a journey filled with doubt, dispossession and ultimately death and defeat. But with determination the band have come up with “Dansen låter fra graven åter”, an album of which its members can be rightly proud.
Produced by the band and recorded between the winter of 2017 and the summer of 2019 at Rönnhögen Lydvær, ELVARHØI’s home studio in the Swedish woods, with additional recording at Studio Hemstad in Holter, it was mixed by Markus Skroch at the Kalthallen Studio and mastered by Magnus «Devo» Andersson (MARDUK) at his Endarker Studio. With artwork by Even Mehl Amundsen and photos by Marcus Eriksson, tracklisting for «Dansen låter fra graven åter» is as follows:
Bruremarsj
Hva er en konge?
Kjenningsvisa
Det grå riket
Vertshuset Dovregubben
Trolljuvshallingen
Tilbake til intet
Kalde netter
ELVARHØI’s lineup of Christopher Rakkestad (RAGNAROK, JORDSKIPSTYRANN) on Bass & Vocals, Magnus Wandås on the Hardanger Fiddle, Sean Murphy on Flutes, Carl Engstrøm (ASTAROTH, DØDSFALL, KVALVAAG, SARPEDON, TROLL, MOLOCH, to name but a few) on Drums, and Martin Langebraaten (SARPEDON, RAVEN WING, FROSTHEIM, SOLMUND) on Guitars, brings with it musicians whose backgrounds span Folk Metal and Extreme Metal as well as traditional Norwegian and Celtic folk music. The band’s songs mirror the profane world in a language of Faerie and adventure, and the eclectic backgrounds of its members enables ELVARHØI to create a down-to-earth sound and style that is redolent of the golden age of Folk Rock, whilst bringing it firmly into the realm of modern Folk Metal.
The sound of the album is a joyous mix between the distinct timbre of Norwegian Folk Music and 70s Rock and Prog, draped over the bones of Heavy Metal. The songs range from triumphant metal anthems, to soft and lush “folk singer-esque” ballads. As songwriter and bassist, Christopher Rakkestad, explains:
When Elvarhøi started up in 2005 we concentrated on medieval ballads, with a focus on paying homage to the cultural heritage of the romantic era. We’ve had an incredibly long musical journey since then, where we held Norwegian folk music up against the backdrop of everything from Black Metal to contemporary music. “Dansen låter fra graven åter” bears the mark of this entire journey, and today we have become a band who boldly cross any musical boundary in order to tell the story we want to share. Our aim is to give something positive to the listener.
The title «Dansen låter fra graven åter» is a line from the debut single “Vertshuset Dovregubben”, in which the fiddler must die after having caused too much senseless revelry. And when the tune keeps playing from beyond the grave, that’s when the party finally kicks into the magical sixth gear. Magnus Wandås, fiddler and lyrical mastermind of the band, explains about the choice of title and the process the band went through to produce the album :
«Dansen låter fra graven åter» translates into something like ‘The dance continues from beyond the grave.’ A few years ago, we would have told you that this album, or any album, would never survive our work process. But we’re far too stubborn to quit, no matter how monumental the task is. And since we wholeheartedly believe in the strength of this material, we couldn’t ever let it go. This attitude could easily have been our downfall, but it must have proved to be a strength. Why? Because here we are, back from the grave and stronger than ever for having gone through the ordeal.
“Dansen låter fra graven åter” will be released by ELVARHØI’s own label Ramljod Records, in both Jewel Case CD format complete with a 24-page booklet, and digital format. It is now available to pre-order from https://elvarhoi.bandcamp.com
Understated is definitely not an adjective that can be applied to Norwegian Prog Folk Rockers TUSMØRKE whose latest album “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne” is set for release on Karisma Records on the 29th November.
Based on two musicals for children, “The Bridge to the Other Side” and “The Root of All Evil”, “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne”, which translated means “Games for children, rituals for adults”, consists partly of Tusmørke’s take on traditional Norwegian children’s songs, and partly on new material by the band. And, whilst waiting for its release, Karisma Records have lifted the veil on what we can expect, by releasing a single from the album.
The album itself will be available in CD, Digital, Black Vinyl and Limited Edition White Vinyl formats, all of which include a 16 page lyric booklet, which, according to the band, “May, or may not, explain the plot”.
With artwork by Thore Hansen, track listing for “Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne” is as follows:
Bro bro brille 9. Velkommen til Hades
Per Sjuspring 10. Kharons vise
Kjerringa med staven 11. På den ytterste nakne øya
Ta den ring 12.Jeg gikk meg over sjø og land
Tornerose 13. Den tolvte Baal
Bjørnen sover 14. Gamlas seierssang
På Torneroses slot 15. Eventyret er ute
Sjubidubidu Sju 16. Du og jeg og vi to
TUSMØRKE’s lineup is drawn from bands like WOBBLER, JORDSJØ and ALWANZATAR, and, in keeping with the band’s innate eccentricity, the variety of instruments they have at their command is staggering, with Benediktator on Bass, vocals, Glockenspiel and percussion, Krizla on Flute, vocals, electronics and percussion, The Phenomenon Marxo Solinas on Minimoog Model D, Korg CX3, William de Blaise on harpsichord, Steinway & Sons Grand Piano, Hohner Clavinet D6, Mellotron M400, Hammond C3, Wurlitzer 200 and Solina String Ensemble, and HlewagastiR on Drums and percussion.
The band happily admit that:
Not everyone who took part in the plays completely understood what they were doing. Neither did everyone in the audience. But here it is, in all its gory glory as the collegium of dashing adventurers and explorers of the unknown reaches of history, known to the unwashed masses under the pseudonym TUSMØRKE, have yet again brought fresh fever from the stars.
With no small risk to their very lives, they have investigated the Mesopotamian idolatry that hid beneath what we, in our innocence, thought were simple songs and verses concerned with harmless folklore and creatures of fantasy. Concealed by a veil of ignorance, these ritualistic rhymes and summoning songs reveal themselves as portals to blissful and terrible realms. Astral worlds and delirious peaks tread forth from the inner places of mankind, and thus exert their power over the reality we share in our waking hours.
Our rhymes, riddles and games for children contain ancient elements. Could one find traces of past religious rituals in them? Seemingly innocent texts gain a more foreboding aspect when viewed in light of the human sacrifices, spiritual journeys and ecstatic trance rituals of Europe in times past. Cultural traits that are today associated with exotic voodoo rituals, Buddhism or cannibalistic head hunters of New Guinea were once widespread among our Celtic and Germanic tribes.
“Leker for barn, ritualer for voksne” is now available to pre-order from:
The official video for the track “Tøyens hemmelighet” from TUSMØRKE’s album “Osloborgerlig Tusmørke: Vardøger og utburder vol. 1” can be seen below and at https://youtu.be/EvhRlAFxQG0
After a seven-year wait since the release of RATTENFÄNGER ‘s debut album, Dark Essence Records have today revealed details of the long-awaited second album from the Ukranian Death Metal legends. Titled ” Geisslerlieder” the seven-track album is set for release on the 6th December in CD and Digital formats.
In the meantime, fans can get a taste of things to come because Dark Essence Records have today released a single from the album. Titled “Materia Prima”, the track can be streamed and downloaded at the following: https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Rattenfanger_Materia_Prima
With a lineup comprised of musicians from bands such as DRUDKH, BLOOD OF KINGU, HATE FOREST and DARK AGES, RATTENFÄNGER are the epitome of old-school Death Metal, with a sound that is distinctively, and devastatingly, their own – pitch black and bone crushingly brutal.
With “Geisslerlieder” RATTENFÄNGER’s lineup of Thurios on guitars, Krechet on bass, Vlad on drums, and keyboards, and Roman on guitars and vocals, have come up with an album that is more ambient, but heavier and more aggressive than their critically acclaimed debut full-length “Epistolae Obscurorum Virorum”. And, as with its predecessor, all the lyrics for “Geisslerlieder” are written entirely in Latin, in the style of medieval poets, thinkers and troubadours/minstrels.
Tracklisting for “Geisslerlieder” is as follows:
De Laude Flagellorum
Materia Prima
Pestarzt
Les Bons Hommes
Sella Stercoraria
De Blasphemia In Latina Vulgaris
Funis Coronat Opus
“Geisslerlieder” is now available to pre-order from the following:
For those who are new to RATTENFÄNGER, the band took its name from the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin (Rattenfänger von Hameln), who was hired by the townsfolk of Hameln, Germany, to rid the town of the rats that had overrun it. Unfortunately he is deceived and cheated of his payment, and he exacts a terrible revenge on the citizens.
Norwegian Black Metallers RAGNAROK have today revealed the first single from their upcoming, ninth studio album “Non Debellicata”, which is due out on Agonia Records on November 15 .
A
For over two decades RAGNAROK have been giving fans their uncompromising take on Norwegian Black Metal, both in the studio and on stage, and the seasoned veterans recently gave us an insight into what went into the making of “Non Debellicata”, an album in which RAGNAROK’s entire lineup of founder and frontman Jontho, guitarist Bolverk, bassist Rammr and drummer Malignant, had a significant input:
Our new album, “NON DEBELLICATA”, is the result of an extensive process in which all the members of the band participated creatively, both musically and lyrically. We put a lot of work into this album to make it as extreme and violent as we possibly could, pushing the borders of our musicianship and song writing skills. Originally we started out with 20 songs, out of which we rehearsed 16 and whittled it down to 13 for recording. We eventually chose 10 for inclusion on the album, because we wanted to ensure the highest possible quality of every song.
As for the title itself:
“NON DEBELLICATA” refers to a phrase used as the motto for our home town Saropsborg in the olden days. It is taken froma letter Jarl Alv Erlingsson sent to the Scottish Government in 1286. Aside from being a nobleman and the Jarl (Earl) of Sarpsborg, Alv was also an infamous pirate who was in the habit of robbing Danish and German merchant ships.
The Scottish government had confiscated a number of Norwegian ships and Jarl Alv wrote them a letter, in which he said that maybe they were under the impression that Norway was weak after being at war for several years. But assured them that they would learn that the Norwegian people were not weakened by the war and would never be defeated.
NON DEBELLICATA. The people of Norway would never give up – and neither will RAGNAROK!
“Non Debellicata will be available in Jewel Case CD, Limited Edition Digipack CD, Digital, and both Red and Black vinyl editions and is now available to pre-order from https://www.agoniarecords.com/ragnarok
Recorded in Sweden’s Endarker Studio, with MARDUK’s Devo at the helm, and with artwork by Nestor Avalos and photos by Arash Taheri, tracklisting for “Non Debellicata” is as follows:
01 Non Debellicata
02 Chapel of Shadows
03 Sanctimoneous
04 Bestial Emptiness
05 Nemesis
06 The Great Destroyer
07 Gerasene Demoniac
08 The Gospel of Judas Iscariot
09 Jonestown Lullaby
10 Asphyxiation
To celebrate the album’s release, RAGNAROK are set to support US Death Metallers IMMOLATION on a 21-date European tour. Accompanying them on the tour will be Austria’s MONUMENT OF MISANTHROPY and Italy’s EMBRYO.

Norwegian Black Metallers NATTVERD have inked a deal with Osmose Productions for the release of the band’s sophomore full-length album. Titled “Styggdom” it is the follow up to 2017’s debut album “Vi Vet gud Er En Løgner” and is set to hit the streets on the 31st January 2020. Work on the album has been completed and more details will follow.
When NATTVERD first announced their existence two years ago, they were absolutely adamant that they should be judged purely on their music, and not on any former, current, or future, bands or releases the members may be involved with. And this is a philosophy NATTVERD adheres to today, with the only additional information being a slight change round in lineup, with original members Ormr still on Vocals and Guitars and Atyr concentrating on Guitars, whilst handing over Bass duties to new member Sveinr. Former session drummer Serpentr takes on Vocals and Anti Christian takes his place as Session Drummer.
So what exactly does the music itself reveal about NATTVERD? Most obvious is the fact that this is a band that plays Black Metal in the traditional way: cold and nasty and filled with fury and hate, with the occasional foray into more atmospheric and melodic realms, keeping the whole thing interesting and original.
But the thing that stood out most about NATTVERD from a listen to their debut album, was the confidence and musical skill demonstrated by its members, marking the individuals out as extremely experienced and talented musicians, and definitely not fledglings dipping their toes into the Black Metal pool for the first time.
Good news for fans of TAAKE who have long been clamouring for the re-release of the long-sold out vinyl versions of 2008’s “Taake” and 2017’s “Kong Vinter” albums, because, as of the 22nd November, they will be available on Dark Essence Records.
Featuring Hoest on vocals, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar and drums, TAAKE’s self-titled album was recorded at the Conclave and Earshot Studio by Bjornar E. Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR), back in the dog days of 2008 and has, since then, become a Black Metal classic. Following on from the iconic trilogy of “Nattestid…”, “…Bjoergvin…” and “…Doedskvad”, the album heralded new start, with TAAKE becoming more active as a live entity.
Originally released on CD, “Taake” was given a limited vinyl release in 2009, and, other than as a part of 2018’s career spanning picture disc box set “7 Fjell”, it has never since been available on vinyl. With the original pressing currently selling for astronomical prices on the secondary market, fans have actively sought to persuade Dark Essence to make it available once again, and the label has listened to their pleas.
“Taake” will be released in gatefold format, with the bonus track that appeared on the original vinyl having been removed. To differentiate it from the 2009 release”Taake” will come with an alternative cover, using a photo from the original photo shoot, and will be available in three different versions. Aside from the regular black version, there will also be white vinyl version, which will be limited to 500 copies, and a 250 copies, strictly limited, clear vinyl version which will only be available exclusively through the Dark Essence Records Webshop.
Tracklisting as follows:
Taake Vinyl Edition 2019
Atternatt
Umenneske
Lukt til Helvete
Doedsjarl
Motpol
September omsider
Velg bort Livet
TAAKE’s “Kong Vinter” once again saw Hoest playing all the instruments on an album that rose like a Black Metal beacon from the gloom of the rugged, rain-swept coastline of Bjoergvin. Traditional in spirit, “Kong Vinter” provides a soundscape underscored by a nasty groove, that at times can appear deceptively playful. It is familiar to the ear, and yet it has a freshness that is so often found lacking in the genre, demonstrating Hoest’s unnerring ability to develop TAAKE’s sound in such a way that keeps it relevant and up to date, whilst retaining the intensity that fans have come to admire in the genre.
“Kong Vinter” will be available in a regular sleeve in a black vinyl version. Once again a new photo from the original photo shoot has been used for the cover, and the bonus track from the original vinyl version has been removed.
